So this is what I've been thinking an AVOS AU could look like, at least some points that I think could make it better.
To start off, the first book or so stays relatively the same. Alderpaw becomes a medicine cat, they go on the journey, the ShadowClan apprentices are brats and they find Twigkit and Violetkit. Rowanstar and Bramblestar still separate them under the pressure of their clanmates and to prevent a full out fight at the gathering.
This is where things change in this A.U
- Alderpaw bonds with Twigkit like usual, but he has begun to receive dreams of Skyclan still after the journey. Each dream shows Twigkit in it too, either just looking around or actively interacting with the mysterious cats. He realizes then that Twigkit is indeed important and that she has a large role to play. He still cares for her like an older brother/ father figure. This begins to cause a rift between him and Sparkpaw though, as their opinions begin to develop and stand differently from eachother.
- Rowanstar plays a larger role in Violetkit's integration into ShadowClan. Rather than only Needlepaw or Pinenose influencing her upbringing, Rowanstar wants to make sure he sticks to his decision of keeping Violetkit for ShadowClan. This being said, when the time comes to make her an apprentice, she is not given to Dawnpelt. He himself mentors Violetpaw to not only monitor her progress but also to really show her the ways of ShadowClan. This angers Needlepaw, who is already planning on joining the rouges with the other apprentices.
- Twigpaw is mentored still by Ivypool, and at this point it is clear that Twigpaw wants to know who her family is, and that she wants to still check on Violetpaw. Her sneaking out gets her into trouble, and she is punished more severely when she is caught. This drives her desperation to find Skyclan and to decide her own destiny. Alderheart begins to actually support this, growing desperate to find Skyclan and give Twigpaw the life she never got to choose.
- Violetkit is not taken by the apprentices to the rouges. Rowanstar knows he will mentor her and he pulls her back from the apprentices. Violetkit stays with ShadowClan, though they still begin to grow unsupportive of Rowanstar.
Things that currently will stay the same in this AU
- Alderheart becomes T.C's third Medicine cat
- Twigpaw leaves Thunderclan to find Skyclan and bring them to the lake
- ShadowClan is overtaken by the rouges and the clan turns on Rowanstar
- Onestar is the one to kill Darktail
- Dovewing and Tigerheart leave the clans on a journey, but the circumstances are different and I will explain that in a little bit
- Dovewing joins ShadowClan
- Twigbranch joins Skyclan
- TwigFin, IvyFern and TigerDove happen. I'll let TigerDove slide for this AU but it'll be a bit different.
Now, for the main changes once again.
For ShadowClan:
- The rouges overtake ShadowClan and the clan turns on Rowanstar, but rather than him fleeing to Thunderclan and Violetpaw choosing to remain loyal to Needletail, Rowanstar orders Tigerheart and Tawnypelt to flee to Thunderclan, as well as Violetpaw. But Violetpaw refuses to leave her mentor and still has care for Needletail, so she stays with Rowanstar while Tigerheart and Tawnypelt are driven out. Rowanstar and Violetpaw are now prisoners.
- Now as a prisoner, Rowanstar is at his lowest but he still has hope that his clanmates will turn around and follow him once again. He has to find a way to regain the respect of his clanmates. Violetpaw sticks at his side, and realizes she has to do everything she can to save ShadowClan. This is her destiny, not to help save Skyclan, but to become the light that will pull ShadowClan into stability once again. Violetpaw promises Rowanstar that she will do what she can to help turn things around, and will spy on the rouges by making it seem like she is one of them. Rowanstar doesn't want her to get herself killed, but he admires her strength and finds himself inspired to remain strong too.
- Violetpaw is released from the prisoner's den after being supported by Needletail, who is high up in rank due to her loyalty to the rouges and her being mates with Rain. Violetpaw makes it seem like she fully supports the rouges and begins to get good information. She knows she'll need Twigpaw and Thunderclan's help, especially when the Riverclan warriors are taken prisoner and when the elders of ShadowClan need to escape the worsening camp. Cats begin to see the evil of the rouges, but they still will not follow Rowanstar's calls to fight back.
- At least, until some warriors get in bad graces with Darktail, and before Darktail can punish cats like Scorchfur or any of his kits, Rowanstar demands for Darktail to let him take the punishments. Why punish useful followers when you can take a life or two away from your prisoner? Darktail accepts and takes some of Rowanstar's lives in front of the cats who were supposed to be punished. This act begins to show the ShadowClan cats how far Rowanstar was willing to go to protect them and to stand up for what is right. His clanmates begin to start respecting him again, and a rebellion begins to grow.
- Going back to Tigerheart and Tawnypelt, they reach Thunderclan and tell them what's happened. Tigerheart and Dovewing rekindle their affections, and Tawnypelt begs her brother and former clan to help ShadowClan. The battle to defeat the rouges is about to begin and by this time Onestar is finally ready to admit what he did and Riverclan, Thunderclan and Windclan prepare for a fight alongside the newly brought back Skyclan.
- The fight commences, but now the rouges get a shock when Rowanstar and Violetpaw ignite the rebellion. Needletail chooses Rain (Who lives in this AU) and Violetpaw over the rouges and helps fight them as most of the ShadowClan cats now begin fighting the rouges. Hopelessly outnumbered, Onestar and Darktail drown eachother and the rouges flee, Sleekwhisker and some others choosing to stay with them. Many of ShadowClan are dead or missing, and rebuilding will be very hard work, but Rowanstar is leader once more and refuses to let his clan stay fragmented. Tawnypelt and Tigerheart return.
- Violetpaw stays with ShadowClan, and is named Violetshine later on in ShadowClan. Needletail and Rain flee the clans and live together away from everything, Needletail choosing to live her life with her mate. She has a heartfelt good-bye with Violetpaw, and tells her she shouldn't force her to be something she doesn't want to be.
Tigerheart's Shadow:
- Tigerheart's Shadow changes instead to depict a journey started by Tigerheart and Dovewing, who received the same dream about ShadowClan cats wandering afraid and lost in a strange territory. Knowing what he needs to do, Tigerheart chooses to leave on this journey even as his rank as deputy and ShadowClan needs to recover with his help. He knows if he tries to tell the clan of his dreams that he will not have the resources or support to go aimlessly searching after cats. But he knows he needs to do this, and that above all, he wants a way to be with Dovewing. Tigerheart and Dovewing actually plan on finding the cats, sending them back to ShadowClan, and then staying away from the clans completely together. This changes though when they end up finding the cats and realize that ShadowClan needs them, and that Dovewing decides that she can adapt to ShadowClan if it means being with him.
- Rowanstar does not fracture when Tigerheart leaves the clan, rather he makes Tawnypelt his deputy and finds inspiration in Violetshine, who has grown wiser and into a ShadowClan warrior. Violetshine does not go to Skyclan, even though a part of her wants to. She decides that ShadowClan needs her more than her kin do, and that she can help her clan come together again. Rowanstar has to struggle still to regain control over his clan, but they are slowly recovering with help from Skyclan, who they currently share the territory with until they need to remake borders.
- Dovewing still gets pregnant, but she does not know until the journey starts. She leaves Thunderclan to help her mate save ShadowClan's lost warriors and decides then to follow him no matter what. They find the missing warriors and new cats and return to ShadowClan.
- Tawnypelt remains deputy and Tigerheart accepts it, preferring to be a warrior and father to Dovewing's kits. Desperate for numbers, Rowanstar allows the warriors back openly and plans to test the newcomers and Dovewing to see if they will be loyal to ShadowClan. He is more strict and sure, and the advice and support from Tawnypelt and Violetshine are his greatest pillars of strength.
In Thunder/SkyClan:
- Twigpaw joins Skyclan after the great battle, and remains there. She does not go back to Thunderclan, and rather decides to find happiness with the kin she always wanted. She does miss Alderheart greatly though, but she finds friendship with Finpaw and both grow to have a GREAT HEALTHY RELATIONSHIP DAMMIT- ahem, anyways.
- Alderheart begins to see doubts and dislike of Skyclan growing in Thunderclan, and decides he has had enough. He questions himself painfully and he realizes that while Twigpaw has fulfilled her destiny for Skyclan, that he himself needs to as well. He decides finally to leave and join Skyclan, who are in desperate need of a Medicine Cat. Thunderclan is clearly upset by this, especially Sparkpelt, who believes Alderheart loves Skyclan and Twigpaw more than the clan and kin who raised him. Her dislike for Skyclan grows tenfold, which I will go into a bit later.
- Alderheart chooses Skyclan and Twigpaw over Thunderclan and becomes their medicine cat. Twigpaw is elated, but knows Thunderclan will be hurt deeply over this. Even so, she receives her name, Twigtail or Twigshade, either works, and she supports Alderheart's transition to Skyclan. He knows that this is his purpose and his destiny, and he learns to accept himself and his choice completely.
- Sparkpelt's dislike of Skyclan is shared by many of the cats in all the clans, and she finally decides to do something about it. This begins Sparkpelt's beginnings as the antagonist of the second half of AVOS. But she's not evil, simply believing that the clans will be safer without Skyclan, and that they need to return to the Gorge now that the rouges are gone. She amasses many supporters from all clans, driven by her pain from Alderheart's betrayal and her desire to protect her clan and the other clans who belong, the four clans.
Still working on past this point, but this is what I have so far. Sorry for long post! Ask any questions of things I did not mention and I will answer how I see it happening in my A.U!
