I don't want to say saddest backstory, but through out the series, which characters lead a life of tragic irony? Like their life didn't get any better?
I'm just going to copy-and-paste what I've put on the wiki. I'm excluding Moon because as of The Final Battle, she seems to be leading a fine, normal life, well besides the fact her daughter lost a leg. o-o
Fang was a pup who didn't realize just how dangerous the Fierce Dogs were. While still feeling a sense of loyalty to his sister, ultimately, he was more loyal to the Fierce Dogs and I'm pretty sure this spawned from both a fear of them and a begrudging respect. He gets beaten up by his foster mother, Blade, who also encouraged others to do the same. But no matter how much he tries to live up to her expectations, he gets killed anyway (he's the least tragic character in this list).
Alpha was an outcast from the very moment he was born. He had to deal with the taunts of the wolves when all he really wanted to do was prove himself. His brother named him Dog, an unintentional insult, and then his peers had him drag a deer carcass all by himself because of his heritage. He felt humilated and due to his pride, he didn't tell others about it. When he goes to rescue his half brother from the Longpaw Fangs, he's caught, and eventually comes to the realization that his Pack wasn't coming to rescue him and that even the half brother he loved abandoned him. His mother came, but the Longpaw Fangs killed her, and this started to spawn a hatred within Alpha. He hated all Longpaw Fangs except for Calamity, his only real joy in life, but of course that ends when he wants to leave and she wants to stay. He starts up a Pack, but when Lucky comes around, they start questioning him, and for the first time, it's shown that he's afraid of what the world's become and due to that paranoia, he joined the Fierce Dogs, just to get killed. Though, it's shown that isn't a bad dog since he's in dog heaven.
