Inspiration x - x - x - x - x - x The largest country on the continent is one by the name of Vellevyn. It is almost entirely landlocked, except for a small stretch of coast in the west, cradled between Selyria and Calea. It is also the most geographically diverse. In the northern parts of the country, it is green and forested. A range of mountains makes its home there, and it is capped with snow, even late into the summer. (Further north is the wintery kingdom of Brisingar). This land is known as Lupin Valley. As you might expect, the name comes from the flowers that blanket its meadows in the warmer months. The northern half of the kingdom is the most ideal for growing crops. Vellevyn is the top agricultural provider for the entire continent. Logically this means a majority of its residents are farmers. They grow anything from wheat to rice to potatoes, depending on their location. Most of the cities are on the smaller side and though there is wealth, it is not extravagant.
If one were to travel south, they would find the climate growing warmer and drier. The southern half of the country is dedicated mostly to the growing of olives and grapes. Despite being the less populated of the regions, it is the wealthier given the high cost of their goods. The towns are built of pale sandstone and flowers line the rooftops. Here the farmers are typically wealthy families who employ a number of slaves to do the manual labor. The largest city and the capital of Vellevyn is called Arebilla. It's situated in a dry riverbed, where red clay and towering arches create a striking landscape. The city is built predominantly from marble, which is mined not far from the border with Calea. It is a city of extravagant beauty, with colonnaded temples, courtyards, and palaces. At its heart is a structure known as the Sand Basin. It is a vast floor with a glittering glass mosaic depicting the founding of the city. Similar to a Roman forum, this is where all the city leaders come to debate and pass legislation.
» Culture & Economy
Vellevyn is a highly diverse place therefore it is difficult to describe it in specific terms. The religion allows for the patronage of many gods, hundreds in fact. All of them are believed to be true by Vellevians, however certain gods are considered more important depending on geography and political affiliation. In the north, three gods Laima (goddess of the harvest), Kartan (god of rain and of war), and Riven (god of good fortune) are celebrated most fervently. This is logical, given most of the economy relies on the success of the given year's harvest. The people in the north are generally more poor than the people in the south, so they have more of an attraction to the idea of something like fortune. In the south, where wealth is more concentrated, four different gods are more prominent: Payvir (goddess of fertility), Wimm (god of theatre), Ieo (goddess of wine), and Lillen (goddess of justice and the city of Arebilla). Families also claim to be descended from certain gods. The iconography is very well cemented, given sculpture groups can be found throughout all of the largest cities.
The economy in Vellevyn is arguably the most important for the continent as a whole. They are in control of about 80% of all of the food produced between the five countries. For that reason, it is in the best interest of all if they are doing well. It is also a precious market, however, which explains the interest of Brasmid and Marcellus, the two foreign kings.
Wealth in Vellevyn is very much dependent on birthright. Similar to the caste system in Hinduism, your station upon your birth dictates the type of life you will lead. There is very little mobility between classes. Despite it being a democracy, there is still very much a heirarchy in the classes. Only the wealthiest and those born with the highest birth are considered legal citizens. Slaves and the lower class, such as merchants, builders, smiths, and sailors are not permitted to participate in the government.
» Political World
The political world in Vellevyn is heavily entangled with religion. First, as mentioned above, birthright completely determines one's value in society. The wealthy and the "high born" are given important government positions that they have "earned" because of their association with certain gods. An example would be the Kilmaen family. Each of the adults in their family is given the position of "judge", meaning they make the decisions during all trials that come to the courts of Arebilla. The reason they are so powerful is that they claim they are direct descendants of the goddess Lillen, the patron goddess of the city. Citizens who cannot trace their lineage back to a god therefore has very little power in Vellevyn.
Now, there are no crowned rulers in the country. Instead, the government is composed of about one hundred men and woman of high birth called Judges. They attend council meetings at the Sand Basin. They pass legislation and hear trials. Of course I'd be lying if I said they were all equally powerful. There are naturally some Judges who rise to the top. These are people like Arcken Kilmaen who threaten those less powerful than himself and leads factions who work in his best interest.
» Extra Information
Vellevyn's army is not the largest or the most powerful. One of the downsides to having such a divided government is that it is sometimes difficult to organize and to get funding for necessary but undesirable things. One of those things is a proficient military. Of course they do employ soldiers, but most are sell swords with no stake in the game but a payday. They are perfectly prepared to abandon the Vellevian government for the promise of a few more coins. For this reason, there is nothing but poor farmers and untrustworthy soldiers standing between Vellevyn and a political disaster.
On a lighter note, one nice thing about Vellevyn is that they are great patrons of the arts! Artists including painters, sculptors, actors, and musicians are considered closer to the gods than any other class of people. They are paid richly and celebrated throughout the year.
Also, despite being poorer, the north is arguably the more peaceful place to be in the country. There, the government is not as corrupt, as the power has fallen into the hands of people with a vested interest in their areas' success, such as wealthier farmers and merchants.
Arcken Kilmaen [ face claim ● Mads Mikkelson ] 45 ● Vellevyn ● Judge ● bisexual ● lawful evil Personality Arcken is....a complicated fellow. For such a corrupt person, he is actually incredibly religious. He believes that some people, including himself, are inherently better than all the rest. He is perfectly willing to let a pregnant slave starve in the street. Why? Because the gods would have made that person high born and given them plenty to eat if they didn't want her to starve. He is considered a despicable man even by his peers for a reason. Because he is entitled and self-righteous. He believes the gods are always on his side, which is why he has accumulated so much wealth and power. If he succeeds it is because his ancestor, Lillen, willed it to be so. Arcken is clever, manipulative, condescending, and altogether evil. What are his redeeming qualities, you might ask? Well, he can be charming when the situation calls for it. He has scathing sense of humor and a cool sensuality. But my advise? Stay far away.
History The Kilmaen family is one of the oldest and wealthiest in Arebilla. They claim they are direct descendants of the goddess, Lillen, who was impregnated (apparently) by Arcken's great-great-great-great-great grandfather. Together they had twin sons who then fathered an entire line of Kilmaen children. Now, Arcken was born the only male heir to that line. Six sisters preceded him, but they were of no value to his parents. They needed a son if they wished to continue the Kilmaen line. And then Arcken was born, premature and small. But he was spoiled to the point of rotten as a baby and then as a boy. He was not allowed to interact with other children his age unless they were high born. He was sent to school in Selyria, which has the greatest university on the continent. And by the time he was a man, he was made a Judge. He quickly acquired power by elbowing his way to the front of every important meeting. He flirted with the most power hungry among them, promising favors if they voted his way. As his influence grew, so did his ambition. He hired bodyguards who never leave his side except to rough up anyone who stands in his way. Arcken has had three wives, all of high blood. By them he has fathered nine children, including seven sons.
Appearance He's a rather striking man. Tall, but not in a jarring way, he stands at about 6'1. His features are what make him unique. He has very high, prominent cheekbones and a square jaw. His eyes are wide set and a dark amber in color. He is starting to age, though the years have been kind to him (even though he objectively does not deserve any form of kindness). Instead of thinning and turning white, his hair remains healthy and has taken on a dark silver shade. His mouth is perhaps his best feature, broad, smirking, and full-lipped. His nose is straight, having never been broken in combat. Arcken is not a man who often fights physically, in fact, even when he was young. He's always paid others to throw the punches. He dresses not as a warrior but as a politician. Long robes of the finest fabrics. On his fingers we wears expensive rings with large jewels.» Relationships

Vespyr Lindon
[ face claim ● Sarah Gadon ] 31 ● Vellevyn/Selyria ● Merchant ● homosexual ● lawful good Personality Ves has a very strong sense of justice. She is a strong willed person who doesn't try to hide her opinions, even if they are controversial. Growing up in the countryside, she learned to have empathy by living among the poor, who shared even when they had little. She also learned the meaning of hard work. Now that she is an adult, she finds it difficult to empathize with people who lack those characteristics. It's baffling to her that anyone can be selfish when they can see suffering or cruel when they know a loving touch. In fairness, she naturally has a stronger moral compass than many. She can be blunt and cold to those she doesn't like, but ultimately Vespyr is very much a good person. She is incredibly loyal and passionate. Nothing will harm her loved ones without going through her first.
History
Appearance Vespyr is the type of person who's sexy without really having to try. She can be wearing old clothes with holes in them and sandles that have been worn by three generations, and still look...cool? There is an effortlessness to her appearance. She doesn't really do her hair, it just falls passed her shoulders in brunette curls. She certainly doesn't wear make-up either. In fact, she's never worn lipstick in her life. As far as stature goes, Ves nearly stands eye to eye with the average woman. She's about an inch below average. She is physically in shape, as one must be if they do physical labor. Her build is naturally petite though she is toned and strong. Her face is beautiful in a more subdued way than her partner, Daissa. Her eyes are large and observant. Their shade is a dark blue like the calm tide pools on the seaside. Her eyelashes are rather short. She has a slim nose and pretty lips.

Daissa Olette Haalborn [ face claim ● Diane Kruger ]
Vellevyn ● Thirty-two ● Merchant ● Homosexual ● Neutral Good Appearance Her mother used to tell Daissa she had a beautiful face that would launch a thousand ships. Always into romanticized poetry, her mother was. Perhaps there was truth to her words. Time would tell. The world was always changing and always unpredictable. Daissa is a lovely woman who appears to be younger than she is. She’s always had a nearly flawless complexion and a nice, fair skin tone. She is of average height, not tall but not considered short either. Long blonde hair falls past her chest and mid back in natural waves, echoing the appearance of her late mother almost perfectly. If someone knows nothing about her, they may confidently assume that Daissa is of royalty or some sort of nobility due to her beauty. It has happened before, as annoying as it is. Daissa’s outward appearance just doesn’t give off the impression that she is not from wealth. That was how the world works. Looks are important in society, and not always in a humbling way. The Vellevyn native received her deep blue eyes from her parents. They are a deep ocean shade that glint with lighter specks of blue whenever the light hits her irises. Other than her blonde locks, her optics are probably her most defining feature and what people tend to see first when face to face.
Personality Before the storm that struck their borders, she was living out the days with a calm and considerate temperament. Daissa was never the most talkative or overly spirited woman, but there was still a warmth to her. Things gradually began to change when Brasmid made his first mark on Vellevyn. She grew bitter at the thought of this Brasmid character destroying her country all because of violent greed. A revolted bile always gets caught in her throat whenever she thinks about the past, present, and future of the war now lingering at their vulnerable borders. Going into war in defense because you must is one thing, but Brasmid is doing it because he wants to. He is on a greedy, callous conquest and it disgusts Daissa. She despises men like that. Not only men like that, but people like that in general. The outcome of these recent events has made Daissa adopt a guarded disposition, one shrouded with a firm gaze and a careful stride. While not everyone in Selyria is like the Redfowles [ she sees Brasmid’s family as a reflection of him ], Daissa still tends to have a mistrust toward the kingdom as a whole. She believes that the world will truly fall because of that covetous man.
History The farmlands of Vellevyn were where Daissa lived with her hard-working parents and younger brother, five years younger. They resided toward the northern part of the kingdom. Both of her parents had been farmers. Every day, at the break of dawn, they would wake up and continue to tend to their crop fields, using what was grown for personal food or for trade. The family would occasionally make the trek to the small stretch of coast at the west that is shared with Calea and Selyria. There is a merchant market there, with various merchants who travel back and forth to different kingdoms. Daissa was acquainted with many people working there, and interest began to peak. She always knew that she wasn’t bound to become a farmer like her parents, and her instincts had been correct. As she became an adult, Daissa’s path led her to trade and commerce, and she too became a merchant down at the coastline. It was there where she eventually married her current spouse, Vespyr, after having met her years prior. Although recently, shadows have begun to plague Vellevyn, with Brasmid Redfowle making his first move on the neutral nation. Iwan had been a part of the troop posted at the western coast, which had been attacked first. Daissa’s little brother was killed that day, killed in a war that should have never happened. The bitterness she feels for Brasmid cannot be described, and she doesn’t think she’ll ever change her opinions on a cruel man like that.

Ezra Bishara26 ● Vellevyn ● Assassin ● Bisexual ● Chaotic Good
Personality For a tall, intimidating insurgent, Ezra is often shy and is very concerned about what people think about him. Yes, he does kill officials for a living, but he has always been scared of appearing like--his father. He knows how much fear one man can bring, and he never wants to be that. Ezra puts others first so such a point that he neglects himself and will hide his own feelings so the people around him aren't uncomfortable. Of course, that means he is also deeply ashamed of any attractiion he has for people, but that's something buried so deep that he's not going to talk about it or ever acknowledge it ever and also die a virgin, Ahem. Luckily, he has people he can and will take his anger out on, since although Ezra cares for the People, he cares not for traitors--that is, of the people of Vellevyn and the world. Traitors of the government? Why, they are friends.
History Being the bastard son of Arcken Kilmaen, Ezra has a complicated background. His mother was a maid for the Kilmaens', and Arcken, as he does, took what he wanted. While that gives Ezra Kilmaen blood and supposedly the blood of the gods, he rejects his father's lineage as much as his father rejects his existence. Taking his mother's name and her Calean blood and skin, Ezra rebelled against the government that was never his from the beginning and has been seeking revenge for her ever since.
Appearance Although Ezra can be socially awkward, his appearance is that of someone who must get a lot of attention. He stands at 6'3" with lean but useful muscle. He has an undercut with soft black curls on top, and dark brown eyes. Cleanly cut and shaped stubble is the only hair on his face, fading into the short hair of his undercut. As a man born to both the blood of a Calean and that of a Kilmaen, his skin is darker than most Vellevyns but lighter than someone who spends their life in the desert. He still relishes in every difference, however, even having broken his own nose as a teen because it looked like his fathers. Ezra had seen many paintings and spent a lot of time comparing himself, thinking of how to alter himself, and the nose was easy. So now, it is a little crooked at the bridge where it failed to heal perfectly, and that's just another thing separating him and the Kilmaen bloodline. His angular jaw is his mother's, which is all the better as opposed to Arcken's mushy face.

Nalia Spirre
[ face claim ● georgie baddiel ] 40 ● Vellevyn ● Judge ● Lesbian ● Chaotic Neutral Personality Nalia is what most would describe as a boss, she is a no nonsense kind of gal who won't hesitate to put anyone in their place. She worked hard to claim the role of judge, using any way she could to get there. She was not in line for the title but, somethings happened, people went missing and she was the only one left. Her humor is harsh and often when she throws jabs at someone there is a good bit of truth in what she says. Though not one to lie, she is very good at not telling the whole truth. It has been said her tongue is made of silver, and she has never out right denied this fact because that would be a lie. Manipulation is her game, anything and everything it takes to get her way she can and will do it or find someone who will do it for her.
History Born into a wealthy family Nalia has grown up rich, without a real worry in the world. Privileged and beautiful there wasn't anything she didn't get. Hell she had four ponies growing up. For no reason she had everyone else take care of them for her. She just liked to look at them and say she had a bunch of stuff. Her family is large and well known for their money. They own land in the capital and a farm so they have a constant supply of money coming in. Honestly she has no idea how bad it can be for anyone outside of riches or involved in wars. Appearance etc etc etc She is rather tall and lanky, standing at 5'7 she is regal. Everything about her is slim, almost too slim. Nalia eats best believe but she doesn't seem to gain weight. Beautiful reguardless of her thin and rather flat frame her skin is a deep umber that is nearly flawless. Her eyes match in color, and are sultry and narrow almond shaped. Her lips are full and cheekbones very well defined as are most prominent bones in her body. She can be seen wearing very elaborateclothing to show off her money. She loves color often using pigments on her face and colored dressed. If she isn't wearing a number of colors she can be seen in a pure white.
