Inspiration x - x - x - x - x - x Unlike the other kingdoms, Traevine, the name for both the kingdom and the island, has no connection to the mainland, and exists solely as an island nation. Located about one-hundred and fifty miles from the mainland, Traevine is an island known both for its volcano (active and dormant) and its two glaciers. Traevine is located towards the northern pole, rendering its climate cold and windy for the most part, though the volcanic nature of the island also provides several natural hot springs that dot the surface. Several different mountains line Traevine's northern border, ranging down the western side of the island to end in a single curved peak on the southwestern area. It is in this peak that Traevine's capital city is located. The mountain peak itself is actually a long-dormant volcano, presumed dead since it hasn't erupted in thousands of years. Traevine's capital city, Fensir, is carved into the volcano's crater and lateral vents. Over the centuries, an icy peak capped the volcano, curving slightly so that it offers some protection to the interior of the mountain. Traevine's people are rather remarkable at engineering and have invented a series of pulleys and lifts driven by the hot air from the volcano's internal hot springs to reach different parts of the capital city. The halls of Fensir are decorated with precious metals and various works of art, including ornate lamps carved from crystals and mosaics depicting various religious scenes. While most of the city is inside the mountain itself, part of Fensir is also located in front of and around the mountain's curved face, though the outside part of the city is often referred to as Rensir or 'Skyhold' colloquially. To the north and north east of the mountain extends one of Traevine's two glaciers - its largest, referred to as Naernsi. Naernsi is predominantly covered in small grasses and a rocky landscape often characteristic of volcanic islands, though there are a few patches of aspen and birch forests. Along the rest of the western half of Traevine and part of the south is the second glacier, referred to as Caernsi.
Traevine's climate remains relatively cold all year, though warm winds blowing from the south tend to heat up the island a bit during the summer. The winds that rush from the glaciers make growing crops difficult, though Traevinians have managed to grow some food nearest the hot springs and fertile volcanic soil. Much of Traevine's landscape is also covered in countless waterfalls, rivers and streams that all originate in the glacier. Two of the island's rivers pass through Fensir and are held sacred. While a good portion of Traevine's population live in or around the capital city, some choose to live out on the countryside in houses made primarily or wood or stone, often with thatched roofs covered in grass or sod. » Culture & Economy
Traevine's main economy revolves around their many mines that are located in the depths of Fensir's volcanic city. They're also known as remarkable sailors, and it is not unusual for Traevines to embark on raids of villages and cities on the mainland, though these occurrences have become more rare of late. Much of their trade lies in the gems and precious metals found in their volcano, and the refinement of such, as Traevinians are renowned for their blacksmithing skills and jewelry making abilities. Traevinians are also known for their dogs - massive powerful beasts nearly identical to wolves that are useful in hunting, warfare and sled pulling, and for their horses; it's a common joke that Traevinians spend more time on the sea or in the saddle than they do in their own beds.
Traevinians are also deeply dedicated to their gods, who exist in a pantheon of twelve. The king of the gods, so to speak, is referred to often as the All-Father, Raensir, or the God-King. Raensir is often use to legitimize the rule of mortal kings, and is the god of the seas and the storm. It is customary that, prior to setting off on a voyage, a prayer and sacrifice be offered to Raensir in hopes of a safe journey. Raensir's twin sister, Daenis, is known as the goddess of the skies and winter. The twin brother of Daenis and Raensir, Hjalsir, is the god of fire and earth. The triplets are often depicted together in artwork and are often prayed to as a unit, as the three of them combined are what created Traevine's landscape - the land of ice and fire and sea. The rest of the pantheon are just as revered, but are often referred to as minor gods and include: Tain, the god of ships, Naior, the goddess of the underworld, Lyeor, the goddess of the forests, Skjallr, the god of song and music, Falon, the god of wolves, Valen, the goddess of fertility and agriculture, Baldor, the god of the forge, Jaeyr, the god of battle, and Caorne, the goddess of dragons.
» Political World
Like many other kingdoms, Traevine exists in a monarchy, but it has its own unique way of denoting who will ascend to the throne after the death of the previous ruler. There is not much emphasis on gender, as Traevinians believe both men and women can be rulers of their kingdom equally. Beneath the king lies the Council of Heralds, sometimes referred as the Small Council, which assists the king in making decisions by providing advice. The Small Council also helps to run the kingdom by undertaking and managing smaller matters, like organizing the city's guard and managing whatever network of spies and informants currently used to keep in the know. The council is usually made up of four to six members, including a member of the priesthood, as Traevine's religion is closely intertwined with its kings and rulers. At the end of the day, however, the king's word is law, but it is rare that the king or queen will act without the advice or agreement of his or her council members. It takes more than one to rule a kingdom, after all. Beneath the king and the council lies the priesthood in terms of political power.
Traevine's succession is unique in that it is not necessarily tied to familial lines, but rather to prophecy and religion. In the heart of Fensir's largest temple, buried deep in the mountain, likes a nearly perfectly circular pool of water that is seemingly fed by no network of streams, but never does the water level dip. The water is crystal clear and at the bottom of the pool is a arrangement of star-like jewels that flicker and glow by candle light, while still seeming to reflect their own inner light. The pool is often referred to as 'Mirrormere', as its surface is as smooth as glass and reflects the starry depths, or is called the Pool of Kings. The pool is held deeply sacred, as it is believed that it is the window into the world of their gods, and it is the manner in which their gods speak to them. When questions of succession are brought up, the high priests will consult the pool. It is said that the stars in the pool's depths will illuminate the name or image of whoever should succeed, reflecting the All-Father's will. The high priests will interpret whatever message they see in the water's depths, and that is often how it is decided who will ascend to the throne. Kings or queens that are supposedly intertwined with prophecy and destiny are often said to cause ripples across Mirrormere's surface, as though they are born of the gods themselves.
Traevine's royal symbol often changes as each new ruler ascends to the throne, but its most recent one includes a dragon curled around a long-sword with a hilt of ice.
» Extra Information
Those that dwell on the island of Traevine are said to be hardy men and women who hold honor and loyalty - to their familial bonds and to their gods - above all else. They're said to be the greatest horse riders, and the greatest sailors, across the known world. Traevinians are often dressed in dark greys and browns and blacks, accenting their dress with colored furs of animals and different bits of jeweled decorations. They keep to the old ways, it is said - when honor still held meaning and guest right was considered sacred. To break guest right, or to slay one's kin, was to commit the highest of crimes. The gods hate kin-slayers and those who break guest right most of all.
Valaerys Talbjorn Fenrir [ face claim ● Kit Harrington ] 28 ● Traevine ● King ● heterosexual ● Lawful/Chaotic Good
Personality: Above all else, Valaerys is a man of honor and nobility, and many of his traits reflect that. He's a quiet man, but one who seems to garner the loyalty of nearly all who follow him. He watches and observes before he acts, like the wolf watching the wood, and takes great care in all decisions he makes. Valaerys is kind and gentle, and will often do whatever is necessary to ensure the safety and prosperity of his people, whether or not such decisions are always supported. He's strangely wise for his age, with a true understanding of how the world - and men - work. He is deeply devoted to his people, and recognizes that his every action determines the outcome of his kingdom - therefore he thinks and plans, rather than acting on instinct. Silent and stoic as a ghost, Val's dark gaze misses nothing; he can seemingly peer into a man's heart and soul and discern the man's true nature. He's not particularly trusting, considering the way he was raised, but he is loyal to his ideals and to those he has sworn oaths to. He's a man of his word; to break an oath, in Val's mind, is nearly unforgivable. Despite his dislike of violence, Val is rather good at fighting, and will not hesitate to step into a melee if necessary. He'll look at all other options of course, but if it comes down to it, Val is not afraid of battle. The man who passes the sentence should swing the sword - and Val holds to that. He's not much on politics and although he can play the game to an extent, he'd much rather just speak his mind.
History: Unlike many of the recent kings of Traevine, Valaerys was the bastard son of a noble-man, but wasn't usually included in the circles that the elite traveled in. He was never given his father's name or nobility, and instead was often shunned due to superstitious beliefs about bastards and by people looking down on him. Still, he was raised with his father's true-born children and learned all of the same values - those of honor and loyalty and duty and the importance of keeping oaths. As he grew, he became a rather sullen young man, watching from the sidelines rather than actively engaging with any of his half-siblings. Whenever his lord father had visitors, Valaerys was excluded. The sight of a bastard was often considered offensive, so Val was pushed aside in favor of keeping up appearances. For a long time he struggled with his identity, struggled to find his worth as a person. He trained with his half-siblings, becoming a formidable fighter, but never really seeing his worth. He was just a bastard after all; a child forgotten by his family. He joined the city guard when he was eighteen to escape both his past and the connotations of it. When the previous ruler died, Valaerys had just turned twenty. When the priests went to the Pool of Kings to see who would succeed and ascend to the throne, they saw the image of a dragon wrapped around a long-sword, whose hilt was encased in ice. The image shifted to a great wolf, jaws wide open. The waters rippled, and the priests had their next king. Valearys was crowned within two months, and when he was twenty-three, he met his wife, Elena. They married shortly after.
Appearance: Like many of those who dwell on Traevine's shores, Val is rather dark and gloomy in appearance. He's slightly taller than average height, reaching about five-ten; he perhaps isn't the most intimidating or imposing figure, as he tends to sometimes blend into the background, but what Val lacks in intimidation factors he makes up for with his wit and intelligence. Dark brown eyes are framed by somewhat dark lashes and crowned by dark, black, brows. His hair is just as dark - the color of the night sky. It's wavy and often kept long, either left to do its own thing or pulled back and bound into a sort of bun/ponytail. Dark hair runs along the lines of his jaw and cheeks, and across lips of intermediate width and a pale coloration. His face is angular and rugged, giving him the appearance often associated with Traevinians. His face is marked by several scars, two of which run vertical across and over both of his eyes. He dresses in dark colors, sometimes in stark contrast to his wife, and is often seeing wearing various furs. Always at his side is his sword called Longclaw.» Relationships
- Valaerys is married to Elena Fenrir.

Myrras Redwood
[ face claim x Lena Headey ] 20 x Traevine x Priestess x heterosexual ● lawful/chaotic good
Personality Despite having been born blind and rather short, Myrras is anything but meek and easily walked over. She's got a backbone, just like her half-brother Valaerys, and is easily annoyed by people either treating her as a delicate flower because of her 'disability', people trying to cozy up to her to earn her favor, or people writing her off because of her lack of eyesight. My chief personality trait is that of self-protectiveness. Growing up in a temple full of divine expectations, Myrras learned very quickly to play the game she was pushed to play. Myrras prides herself on being fiercely self-reliant in most things, but she does require aid at times - she is blind, after all. Despite her independence, Myrras is prone to bouts of loneliness and depression, as she does not count many people in her repertoire of friends or close companions. Myrras is a rather good actor, and plays her part well, despite her lack of belief in anything having to do with the gods, or the divine.
History wip
Appearance Although small in stature, Myrras is anything but submissive. She stands just over five feet in height, though her very presence seems to demand respect. Soft, pale blond hair falls in gentle waves down to the small of Myrras's back, kept meticulously clean and straight. A small, slightly upturned nose, full but pale lips, and a dark blond eyebrows serve as the outline for Myrras's facial structure. Her chin is rounded, giving her face a small, delicate appearance. Myrras's most notable feature, however, is her eyes. Myrras's eyes are a pale, cloudy blue, forever unseeing - peering into the cold dark beyond, into the veil where the gods lived. Or so she'd been told - and so she claimed.

» Livvy's Traevine Characters
Elena Rey Fenrir [ face claim ● Emilia Clarke ]
Traevine ● Twenty-six ● Queen ● Heterosexual ● Lawful Good Appearance Elena is a beautiful woman who is shorter in stature, but that has never really hindered her from going about her daily routines. Anyone living in their world knows that trivial matters like height or figure do not define a person. Their actions do. Her optics are a lovely shade of light green that always seem to meaningfully reflect compassion, honesty, and loyalty. Her hair is long and beautifully wavy, but it does not portray a common hair color. At least not common to most. It is an almost white color, although it’s more like a very light shade of blonde. It depends on who you ask. It is a generational thing thanks to her family line, Elena having naturally inherited it from her late father. Often, Elena’s hair is styled in numerous ways depending on the occasion. Braids are normally integrated in an intricate manner that give her a sense of high nobility, although it is far from a condescending or rude move. Anyone who knows Elena knows she is anything but condescending and rude. It doesn’t matter how elegant or noble-like Elena is dressed. It doesn’t matter her status in society because she’ll always be found with a genuine smile and warm eyes. Elena has a very trusting aura about her.
Personality In a world full of cruel and violent natures, Elena is a clear breath of fresh air and a light in the shadows. She is a polite woman and is naturally well-spoken, but also filled with a compassionate determination. The woman really does display a lovely soul that has never been tainted by darkness. She is deeply sympathetic to those who have been oppressed, never being one to turn away when someone is in need. She can sometimes present a stubborn attitude, but nonetheless means well. Being on the shorter side when it comes to height has no effect on her mental strength and her willingness to do the right thing. In general, she does prefer peace over meaningless fighting. Nonetheless, preferring a more peaceful route does not mean Elena can’t get her hands dirty if necessary. Protective in nature, she is unwavering loyal to her family and the kingdom and carries a heart of gold everywhere she goes. Loyalty and trust are character virtues that are important to Elena, and she found both in a man named Valaerys.
History The daughter of Traevine nobles, Elena was raised in a relatively wealthy household. Fensir, the capital city of the island nation, was her home and still is. Her father was a part of the city's council for many years, and was also a decorated warrior in his prime before Elena was born. Whenever his beloved daughter came into his life, the man decided to stay put in Fensir instead of continuing with potentially dangerous endeavors. Having his lovely wife in his life had already humbled him, but Elena made his soul soar. Elena's mother, on the other hand, was a priestess at the capital's grand pantheon, which celebrates all of Traevine's many gods and goddesses. Her mother was naturally very religious, giving praise to the gods above. Mostly she favored praying that her daughter would continue having a good, prosperous life. And she dearly hoped that one day, Elena would find the one person who understood her the most. Someone who would love her like she deserved to be loved, and give her unwavering loyalty and honesty. Those prayers were granted, with Elena falling in love with Valaerys Fenrir. He was already king by the time their courtship began, with it not taking long for them to wed. It was not the crown that drew Elena to him. It was all of the respected virtues that he possessed, virtues that have made him into the man he is today. She is delighted to be his wife and his queen, and until her last breath, she will stand beside him.

» Glow's Traevine Characters
Calypsei Fenrir [ face claim ● Mackenzie Foy ]
Traevine ● Eighteen ● Princess ● Heterosexual ● Chaotic good Appearance Calypsei might only be Val's half sister, but the family resemblance is strong nonetheless. They have a similar face shape, though hers is of course more feminine. Her eyes are large and almond shaped. The shade is lighter than Val's, though the exactly color is difficult to pin down. It's somewhere between blue-gray and green. Perhaps her most distinctive feature is her long brunette hair, which falls to the middle of her back. It is straight naturally and she isn't fussy in the way she styles it. As far as stature goes, she is rather petite, like her half sister Myrr. As she is eighteen, it seems as though she's stopped growing at a respectable but small 5'3. Her build is thin and long-legged giving her a somewhat fae-like appearance. This is helped by the fact that Calypsei has a youthful spirit. She could easily pass for fourteen or fifteen.
Personality Don't mistake her soft, breeze voice for weakness. Though Calpysei might float through the palace at Traevine like a snow pixie, she is as strong willed and stubborn as they come. It becomes rapidly clear once one spends time with the princess that she is used to doing what she likes. She never had playmates her age, so she learned about the world from stories. This has given Cal a naivete. She believed in goodness as well as the mystery of the unseen. She'd be the least surprised of anyone were a dragon to suddenly sail in from the clouds. Optimistic, mostly kind and angelic, the young princess has been given little reason to believe she wasn't born into a fairytale occupied by valiant knights. The young woman is hard-headed and sometimes demanding. But it is difficult to be angry with her for long due to her sweet charm.
History Calypsei is the only living legitimate child of the former king. This makes her a half sister of the current king, Val. It goes without saying that she was raised in the lap of luxury. As a little girl she might as well have been a kitten with a bell. She was doted on and fawned over. But she was often bored, given she was by far the youngest to occupy the castle. Her truest companion and the person who taught her most about the world was the resident chronicler, Tanlan, better known to her simply as "Story". He worked for the king as a biographer, tasked with recording the goings on of the kingdom. But in his free time, he told little Calypsei vivid stories involving elves, dragons, vampires, knights, assassins. He is responsible for most of the silly ideas in her head. But he also taught her to question things, and to respect all people in their various forms. Her life has been more or less constant even as she reaches adulthood. Although now she has a sister in law to frolic with.
Tanlan "Story" Perssea [ face claim ● Benjamin Clementine ]
Traevine ● Thirty-six ● Chronicler ● Heterosexual ● Neutral Good Appearance Just take a look at Tanlan and you can see he is rather out of place in the cold northern country of Traevine. His dark skin is in stark contrast to the pale complexions of those around him. He is exceedingly tall as well, standing at about 6'3. Long limbed, broad shouldered, he looks more like a gladiator from Calea than a chronicler from Traevine. But looks can be deceiving. Regardless, he is a handsome man with high cheekbones, full lips, and skin the color of obsidian. His eyes are dark and kind. He dresses as is appropriate for the cold weather. He is not as wealthy as the nobles and royals, of course, but he is well taken care of.
Personality
History Tanlan Reinson Perssea was born almost forty years ago in the south of Calea. His mother father was a trader and his mother an artist who sold fine jewelry. His childhood was a happy one. Though they were not particularly wealthy, he was given a good education in the capital. When he was around seventeen, he joined the military. He fought for three years before sustaining a wound to the right shoulder that caused difficulty in fighting movement. During that time, his assignment for the military was to write about the events of each battle including who was wounded or killed and which party sustained what damage. He was promoted later to general, but he retired later at the age of twenty four. At this age he had acquired enough money to travel the continent and he was tired of war. He set off north, where he spent some time in Vellevyn as a scribe. Eventually found his way up to Traevine where he was originally taken as a hostage. There Tanlan spent about two weeks in the dungeons. It wasn't the most pleasant of times, but he was treated well and quickly made friends with the guards. The Traevine king soon discovered he would be worthless in any sort of negotiation (Vellevyn would never pay to free a man from Calea). The king was charmed by Tanlan and decided to take him on as a biographer. During this time, he was also introduced to the young princess Calypsei, who as a seven year old demanded to hear tales of his travels. He has always had a soft spot for the girl. Today he continues his work as a chronicler for the new king, Valaerys.
