They really should not post THIS on Fanfics!!!"This topic has not been posted on for at least one month. Please do not post here unless you are the thread owner or have a legitimate reason for doing so. Posts reported for necroposting will just end up with the thread being locked." Sheesh if a new reader came along and posted would they LOCK the Fan Fics?????I have seen this on every single fic I have out there.Read more: wcrpforums.com/thread/293/blood-born-smoke-fire-scene?page=29#ixzz5ci7RvQYr

Yep, same for me. I've seen it on Curse a few times too. But it really doesn't seem like the mods really come after fan-fics, at least in my knowledge. I think they just don't want excessive necro posting. The kind where it's clear the creator of owner of the thread hasn't been on in ages and hasn't posted there. If the owner is active (as in not gone for an entire year) I think it should be fine?

But then again, what if something happens to the creator and it's up to the readers or fans to keep the thread where others can easily discover it? Or what about old classics that the author's don't post on anymore? What happens to those threads? o.o'
Do we need to be making fail-safe backups for other people's stories that we are fans of?

I have a lot of shorter fics related to NEW BLOOD too that get that message as does Phantomstar's Corner and the Allegiance pages.

I totally agree. Like, some of my fics are done and so I don't update them anymore, but then they drift off with the Old Topics and then never get posted on again because of the necropost warning. I feel like a lot of other fics are like that too. There are 35 pages of threads in the WFF, and only two have been posted on in a month. So much potential left unread

The warning may make people afraid to comment after they discover the fic. Hard to get new fans that way. Maybe we should start some sort of petition?

BOOMPETITION
We, as the authors of the WFF, would like to request to the mods of the WCRF that a change be made regarding the necroposting rule. We believe that fan fictions shouldn't be locked if a new reader discovered them and decided to post even after a month of no activity, and that readers shouldn't be afraid to post because of the necropost warning. We believe that, even if an author wasn't able to post in a while they should still be able to go back and update their stories, and that if something happened to the author the readers would still be able to read the fan fiction and keep the thread where it can be discovered by others. Even threads that are no longer active should still get a chance to be read and not be forgotten in the vast expanse of 35 pages of stories that are inactive and therefore don't get read in the WFF. We believe that, with changes to the necroposting rule in consideration of the points we have brought up on this petition, that the WFF can become more of a place of comfort and writing to our imagination's content instead of feeling pressured to come on and post often lest our stories be lost. We sincerely hope that you will consider our request for the benefit of the WFF, and we thank you for being the wonderful and helpful mods of the WCRF that you are.

Inactivity on the old forums actually led to my works being deleted. While the mods do not seem as intent on deleting fics, the necropost warning on threads will surely scare away readers from commenting.

Oh, I agree the rule should be modefied, if not lifted entirely within our forum. So many great stories have been lost once they’ve been finished or the author leaves, and it would be a shame to see any more go due to the necroposting rule, especially since we work so hard and devote so much time to creating our stories.
Many of us have been working on our stories for months, if not years, in addition to juggling full time school, jobs and life in general. It would be a damn shame and a little bit painful to see those stories stop gaining comments and fans due to not being allowed to post if they’ve been dead for a while. I, like most authors, live for comments. They validate us as authors and assure us that people appreciate the blood, sweat and tears we pour into our little pet projects.

Add me! It's unfair that people might be put off from commenting on a fic because they're scared of getting it deleted

I agree! I’d hate for our writers’ works to be deleted over time. That doesn’t appear to be the main issue that we have. So, I’ll just explain. The mods seem relatively unlikely to delete fics or lock them, even. (Given what I’ve seen over on Warriors General, here is definitely lax.) What our issue is: the fact the necroposting warning most likely would lead to us losing new readers. (As it would put them off from commenting since they wouldn’t want the thread deleted.)

Took me four years to wrote the main NEW BLOOD tale and when I went to bump it after a busy Holiday season and saw that notice I just felt like screaming "REALLY? Yeah thanks make new and old readers afraid to post or afraid to click links to my other stories!"
Dingo-I do have a request, since I often have real trouble reading your posts even on this huge screen, would it be too much trouble to change your text from black to a lighter color? Or maybe just bolded? I have to highlight t to read it, and when I'm on my lappie it becomes even more difficult.

Here here! I have to keep bumping up my topics - even in they are on the front page already - just to keep that message away. I'll sign! If that message could be removed from the WFF section of the forum, I think I would really help keeping older topics finding new fans and people wouldn't have to silently read and then leave because that message is glaring at them! Tagging the others from the potluck pinglist, since I assumed this would be something which interested you: 🇲🇴🇷🇷🇮🇬🇦🇳 ⥇ ✲ριкαƒυєу✲ @battlingfear MissMisty

It especially frustrating when one has connecting pages to a fic, like allegiances, or one shots, contest entries, or an author's page where everything is listed, because of that message, a reader would fear clicking a link to read on older fic, or something brought over from the old forums, or even side info about the fic. I try to bump stuff but I am sure I forget things! Certainly would not want these tales disappearing into the ether.

I can ask two of the mods (I'm friends with them) about this and see what they say. I doubt this applies to the WFF section though, but I'll still ask for clarification on it c:

glad I saw this before logging off though for future reference; putting a topic like this in Forum Help or Suggestions would be super helpful too for more input by the rest of the community. one here and one there works- would be nice to have double. I'm going to see if I can find the Necroposting header through the Admin panel right now. Fan fictions would not be deleted due to necroposting-- the alert is more for subboards like Warriors General, Off Topic Discussions, Off Topic Roleplays, and Warriors Fan Clans. Since those are prime areas of activity where newer users will post on a topic that's 30 days older (or even older), I usually lock them or delete the post because: (these are examples) 1. if you're going to go hunting in say, Warriors General, for a topic about the best warrior cat based upon X and it hasn't been posted on in two months, it's useless. We want to increase and encourage new activity and opinions so that new discussions are had. 2. WFF is like the Art Forum to me in terms of posting; art dumps are posted on whenever an artist updates or has a new piece of art to share. Fan fictions are updated when a new chapter or announcement comes through. It isn't like necroposting in Warriors General or Fan Clans seeing as these subboards move at a difference pace compared to the Art Forum and WFF. So, in my opinion, deleting fan fictions from WFF after not being posted on for 30 days (or more) would be illogical of a staff member to do. We always check to see what subboard the post is located in before taking further action when it comes to necroposting or any kind of report. I'll see if it's possible to have the necropost header removed from WFF topics but I gotta figure out if I have access to that and if I do, I'll go digging. I think it may include some CSS and I wouldn't want to mess that up for Soft and Roswell if I do find it. Newsflash though: I can bump the threads in the mean time if anyone wants that to be done. Takes me 5 seconds because I have an bump button on threads. Just report them and put "please bump this thread because sand offered in wff" or something like that-- whatever you find fit and a staff member will do it for you. TL;DR - Fan fics will not be deleted as WFF is a subboard that goes at a difference pace than, for example, Warriors General. The necropost alert applying here is illogical and staff wouldn't delete or lock a thread in this subboard because of it. I'm looking into the Admin panel to see if the Necroposting header can be removed. Want something bumped? Report it and your wish is our command. - forgot a tl;dr after editing this multiple times after posting, apologies.

Wow, thank you so much Sand, this is very nice of you and I appreciate you looking into this!! And thank you for that heads up, I never knew we could do that. I won't be using it simply because it doesn't seem like it's needed if our threads aren't going to be deleted if we post on them after a long absence. But getting rid of the necroposting header all together in the WFF (and other similar sub forums) would be amazing!

This is wonderful news! Thank you both so much! Now we won’t have to worry about possible implications of the necropost tag. (I’m somewhat surprised it took so long to point this out. But I’ve also been conditioned to bump up fics since I lost works with the old forums.)

It is not so much fear of deletion that bothers us as much as the message scaring away new readers or posters. I have several things that I do not update frequently because they are finished pieces, and even my author page with links to everything, I do not update every month, only when something new is added to something. The notice certainly may have self fulfilling mechanism, because of it nobody posts because of the message, it goes deeper and deeper into the inactive "pile". I try to bump my stuff every so often but life can get busy and I forget!
