Leighton Vallaway ;; Nephilim
The expedition to Asriel’s holding place allowed the nephilim to reflect on the distant yet clear past, among other things, like the present and the future, too. She still had that same photo, the one she had found in Asriel’s house after it was raided, and he was aggressively taken against his will. Leighton studied that lovely picture for a while or perhaps it merely felt like longer than it had been. A focused look was furrowing over her expression when she studied Asi’s face, a face she had never seen in person since this was when he was a child. But even so, she still stared at him like he was still a best friend. Her best friend, if they still were. Leighton was uncertain of what the future held. That passionate moment they had felt like a century ago, and it held so much weight because of what happened after. Asriel would not expect her to be a part of this rescue brigade. He probably thought she couldn’t care less. But it was her own fault and she accepted it along with the pain that came with it.
For now, Leighton had a mission and that was to save Asriel, regardless of what happened between them after the endgame settled. She took the time they had to get some more practice in, with an array of different weapons. She ended up gaining a new teacher during it, with Kjorn willingly agreeing to spar with her. From the start, Leighton knew automatically that he was the best fighter she had ever witnessed or fought against, even if they were obviously holding back from actually injuring each other to any extreme extent. Even if they were just doing hand to hand combat. Still, Kjorn’s balanced form, the way he moved like a swift blur, his patience but also his assertiveness. All of it had been mastered through many years of experience. She could only imagine what Kjorn had been through in his centuries of living. Leighton was able to keep up in a fair enough manner, but she knew that if this was a true battle, Kjorn would have slain her ass in five seconds or less.
Leighton ultimately found her body slammed onto the ground more times than once by the angel, but she always got right back up as if she had no choice. “Again.” She would tell him, breathing hard but still looking determined to continue. She had never been a quitter in that sense. She always wanted to keep going.
It was that strong resolve that would be needed for what was to occur.
The day came and Kjorn took the lead when they snuck into the compound’s perimeter, swooping in like the avenging angel he was. The hunters didn’t know what hit them, completely caught off guard at the ambush by the blurring warrior. However, an avenging father was not the only one to join this chaotic party. After taking care of the guards outside, the doors were loudly kicked open to reveal Leighton alongside Bronn. With an arrow already expertly nocked on the recurve bow, Leighton aimed it toward the first man she spotted, letting it woosh through the air and hit him in the stomach. But the nephilim finished the job with yet another arrow to his chest. The moment then went still, like the world began to slow its pace and things went silent for Leighton. Her green eyes had shifted toward the face she had missed so dearly, her expression softening. Asriel. Seeing him made her heart clench, but the view of his body bloodied and weak hurt her. Both the adoration and relief in her eyes were also matched with the overwhelming concern and guilt.
The tears soaking around his eyes and down his cheeks. His once untouched wings looking like ripped up feathers from a pillow. It was heartbreaking. She didn’t know how long she kept eye contact, but eventually the world just started to spin again.
From her peripheral vision, she saw another ramming toward her like a bull, Leighton quickly dodging a fist that flew toward her face. She spun around to land a roundhouse kick toward his head, the man letting out a loud groan as he visibly staggered. Pulling out one of her daggers, she stabbed him right in his chest, kicking him in the groin and letting him collapse. Leighton swiftly grasped another arrow and nocked it along the bow’s arrow rest, spinning quickly toward the next man charging her. She released the arrow with precision aim, the sharp tip plunging through his chest. The foe went straight down to his knees, the man slumping forward before he went limp on the concrete. She heard the next footsteps rapidly approaching behind her, but Leighton didn’t have time to fully react before the man wrapped his firm arms around her, trying to yank her away. Leighton struggled in his grip, noticing she was near a shipping container that could be used to her advantage.
Barreling as close as she could, Leighton used her agility to make a running motion up the wall, the woman letting out a strained grunt as she was able to flip over. However, the flip wasn’t executed fully, with both she and the hunter slamming back to the ground. This time, Kjorn was not sparring with her and she was against an opponent who actually wanted to kill her. Leighton groaned at the sharp pain that went up her back, but she controlled her ragged breaths enough to stumble upward after a few seconds, just as the hunter regained his own bearings. Her bow had slid away, too far out of reach at the current moment. The nephilim’s heart hammered as she ran at him, balling her fist and slamming it into his nose. He grunted and stumbled back but returned the favor by socking her cheek. Leighton’s head snapped to the side and she staggered back against the container.
“You’re gonna f**king get it now, little girl!” The man savagely spat as he swung his fist toward her, Leighton’s eyes going wide as she quickly ducked the blow, hearing the growling wail as his skin connected with metal. The nephilim quickly staggered straight to her bow, skidding across the ground and swiftly snatching it up. She awkwardly slid onto her back but aimed another arrow in a sideways manner with the bow. She let it fly toward the exasperated man before he was able to even think about charging her again.

dr. pluto xi - -Dr. Xi stared with an expression that hovered somewhere between disinterest and fascination at Arthur's painful awakening. His movements were too sluggish and mechanical to be considered writhing. A pity, but Pluto was willing to settle for the panicked confusion that glittered in those jewel-toned eyes.
"Now, now," Pluto rested a soothing hand on the wingless angel's shoulder, easing him back down onto the bed before he managed to tear his still-fresh stitches open. "Calm down, Mr. Rothchild, let's take it slow, shall we?" He allowed a small, comforting smile to settle over his features like snow—beautiful, but ultimately cold.
"I'm Dr. Xi. That's Xi as in shee, pronunciation-wise" he began, measured his tone, kept it warm but not overly-inviting. Friendly, but professional. "I've been taking care of you for the past eleven or so hours. As for where you are, that would be St. Ellen's Hospital. Do you remember the circumstances that brought you here, Arthur Rothchild? Well, even if you do, I suppose it would be best for me to explain regardless." He began with the incident that started Arthur's descent into hell. Angel poaching gone south. Three murders; two humans, one vampyre. He ended with Arthur's arrival at the hospital, brought in by a police officer and left in Dr. Xi's expert care.
"I'm sure you're acutely aware of why you're here, Mr. Rothchild," he added with a pointed glance at Arthur's side—where wings should have been. "Whoever cut your wings off did a—shall we say—poor job. You were losing an awful lot of blood and had to be rushed in for emergency care. I stitched you up as best I could, but I'm only human. The rest of your healing will be up to you." Pluto recited a list of do's and don'ts. Keep the gauze clean. Take all the medication. The usual spiel.
Not that Arthur would need to remember any of it. Pluto had already contacted Peter, asked him how he felt about an angelic test subject. "I have to ask, Mr. Rothchild," the doctor pulled up a chair and took a seat as he spoke, "When they brought you in here, the police only gave us your name. So I must know, do you have any family? Is there anyone you'd like to contact? Someone you want to know that you're safe?"
This was the tricky part. The part where Pluto had to calculate risk and reward, whether or not Arthur was worth the trouble. The doctor had already taken painstaking efforts to scratch him from the medical records. Aside from witnesses, there was nothing to say that Arthur Rothchild had ever been a patient at St. Ellen's, no documentation. Too much family, too close by, and that would have to change. Pluto would have to chalk the missing papers up as a slip-up, a simple filing mistake that an understaffed, underfunded hospital like theirs was bound to make every now and then.
He knitted his hands in his lap and waited for the answer that would decide the angel's fate from here on.

DANIEL BIRD - - -
Daniel's brain took several seconds to figure out the gravity of the slip-up. Part of him wanted to smack himself in the face for being so stupid. For maybe not being more sensitive and realizing at least a piece of Kai's expertise came from experience in the field. When Daniel looked back up at Kai, the vampyre looked so tired. Not really physically, but more emotionally, a hauntedness creeping into his warm blue eyes. Daniel knew the look well and his heart twisted in his chest. It was a familiar feeling. The one that crept up when he stirred too many old memories. For years Daniel had been a part of the cold cases unit and the same haunted look followed every victim of something. The aunt who's nephew had been murdered just blocks from her house and the killer never caught. The girl who had her innocence torn from her and she grew into a woman without any closure. The trafficking victims they spoke to years after they got out, most of them wishing the past would stay firmly in the past.
Daniel did want to ask for a name, just so he could run it, but part of him also knew it was private. Something Kai had obviously buried years ago. Daniel knew it would also come up when he continued his work if it was relevant. But for now, Daniel tapped his pen against his paper, before setting it down on the table and leaning back to think. His thumb absently rubbed against one of the many silvery scars on his arm, an old habit that he found himself doing when his brain wasn't working the way he wanted it to.
His eyes jerked back up to meet Kai's, which were warm and friendly. Surprising considering Kai now had a cop sitting in his kitchen and earlier he didn't seem to keen on being friends. Which Daniel assumed was the cop thing. He found himself shaking his head. "That's exactly why you shouldn't be my informant," Daniel said, sensing the flirty tone Kai was directing the conversation in. "because you are definitely trouble," Daniel said, letting his eyes flicker across the jewels, to the gold laced in his pale hair, the eyeliner that was just a bit smudged underneath his right eye. There was a soft curl to Kai's words, something that was reminiscent of Ellerian. Daniel lifted his cup, taking a deep swig. He felt more alert with the coffee, which he figured he'd have to be with Kai.
"But," Daniel conceded, ripping out a bit of paper from the back and scribbling his personal number down on it. He slid it across the table to Kai. "in case you do find yourself in trouble. Or you hear something else around the bar," he said. And speaking of phones, Daniel's began ringing, making him jump. He reached around to his coat pocket and pulled it out, expecting Cortez. But instead, it was a familiar number that only made Daniel frown and glower at the phone, sending it to voicemail before he slid it back into the coat pocket and turning back to Kai.

-- kai nicollier ; v a m p y r e.
"Oh? What a shame, then. Considering I have the freedom to get places that you, as a man of the law, cannot." Kai leaned back in his chair, inspecting his nails almost boredly. Yes, he wanted to persuade Daniel, but he also didn't want to be the one begging. No, Kai didn't beg. He was hard to get. "Of course... that also means you won't be seeing me again, will you sweetheart? I get the feeling you don't come around this side of town that often. At least... not for pleasure." And emphasis on pleasure. Sure, maybe Daniel came for work, but would could have pitstops in a sixth story apartment. Or... work could be in a sixth story apartment. He would be meeting an informant, and still get paid for the time in his bedroom.
As much as hanging around a cop might have downfalls, Kai could play it as if he didn't know. "It wouldn't harm me, no. Not if, in public, we're lovers." He again smiled over at Daniel, catlike with actual feline in his lap nonwithstanding. "That shouldn't be hard, sweetheart." Now, he grinned. He had to refrain himself from adding especially not if I'm on my knees for you. He sat up straight again, as if admitting defeat.
Oh, but there it was. Daniel gave his phone number, and it really wouldn't be hard from there. Kai knew his own abilities, and already knew Daniel had been thinking about it. They were close enough to kiss many times this evening, and had touched each other more intimately than strangers do. Unless they were, of course, to be lovers. Checkmate. He took the paper.
"I suppose I will see you out, then," Kai said and he tried to gently nudge his cat off his lap, and then just picked her up and placed her on the floor. He was glared at, but so was life. "I am going to have to make you look a bit disheveled though, sweetheart. If anyone from before sees you, I want it to look like I almost killed you. In the good way, of course." He stood and waited for Daniel, stopping him in front of the door. Oh, this won't do. He clicked his tongue and reached up to muss his hair--thank the gods for high heels--teasing and pulling at it to make it as if their rendevous was more than spilling info. Then, he wrinkled his collar, unbuttoned the first two buttons, looking pensive before he popped the third. Kai could feel the warmth of Daniel's chest. Ah... a nephilim. He smelled good. Probably tasted good, too. And they were standing close again.
Kai looked up at Daniel, hands still on his shirt. "I'm surprised you haven't cuffed me by now, sweetheart," he murmured, the closeness making it seem like they needed to keep their voices low. As if anything louder would break something.

Bronn Blackwater ;; Human
When Bronn and Leigh busted into the abandoned warehouse, they were greeted by quite the sight. There was some winged man bound and chained against one of the support beams near the back right corner, and if Bronn had to guess that was Kjorn’s reason for being here. Kjorn hadn’t told him exactly who this kidnapped angel was, but a cursory glance at the young man made it obvious. Kjorn and this kidnapped angel shared the same dark eyes, the same dark hair, the same facial structure. So either this was Kjorn’s long-lost brother, or it was his son; Bronn leaned towards the latter. Kjorn was wading through what seemed an endless number of enemies, but Bronn’s cursory count had it near forty. Quite the number, but Kjorn wasn’t daunted. His arakh swords flashed like fire, and when they fell men screamed in agony. Kjorn wielded the swords like a master, as if they were extensions of his body. Novices tended to think of a sword as separate from them, but once they embraced the weapon as an extension of their arm, the true dance of steel began.
And what a dancer Kjorn was; it was as if he could anticipate blows before they were even struck, twisting his body around to deflect the makeshift weapons that the captors had grabbed before leaping in to the sudden melee. The angel’s wings seemed to have a mind of their own, snapping outward to knock one attacker off their feet, sweeping forward to stagger several others, and even lifting Kjorn off the ground for a few seconds as he continued the dance. His strong-side sword swung at a horizontal angle and bit into one man’s side. The man inhaled sharply in shock and dropped his weapon, mouth dropping open at the shower of blood that was released when Kjorn pulled his blade free. In the same motion, he twisted his weak-side sword, flipping the hilt so that he was holding the blade backward. He used to curved surface to grab another’s weapon and drag him closer to his strong-side sword. The silver fire flashed again, and another fell into the blood-soaked dust.
Bronn turned his attention from Kjorn, satisfied that the Stark could hold his own. Leigh had already taken one man down with two arrows, one to the guy and another to the chest, but she was momentarily distracted when she met the gaze of the chained man. A soft moment passed between them; a look of sorrow and longing and affection. Well, it seemed that Leigh had found her own man to love, if that look was anything to go by. The moment passed as swift as it had begun and the female Nephilim spun to face another enemy.
Out of the corner of his eye, Bronn saw someone charging him. In a movement so fast it was nearly hard to follow, Bronn swiveled on his feet and withdrew one of the curved daggers at his back. He used the momentum generated by unsheathing the blade to throw it with unflinching accuracy; his attacker’s charge came to a sudden jerking stop when Bronn’s dagger sank to the hilt in his throat. With a gurgle and a river of blood the man fell to his feet. Bronn looked deceptively relaxed; despite the fact that several of his attacker’s companions were staring in shock at their friend’s sudden death, they failed to see that Bronn was a real threat. They charged him in a group of three, wielding maces and axes and other makeshift weapons. No firearms it seemed; perhaps the noise would draw attention they weren’t interested in dealing with. The tallest swung his mace at Bronn’s head, but the sell-sword was far faster than he looked. Bronn twisted his upper body to the right, dodging the blow, and in the same movement withdrew the second blade from his lower back. He flipped it around to hold it properly, using the steel to deflect the second tallest’s axe as it whistled towards his stomach. He ducked another strike from the third, and as he stood he spun suddenly and sank the dagger into the smallest’s chest with a soft thud. The man dropped like a sack of spuds as Bronn turned to the other two. He reached across his body with his right hand and unsheathed his longsword.
The two men glanced at each other, then charged Bronn as one. He lifted his longsword to deflect both blows, giving them a wry smile. He shoved them away, following up with a low slash towards the tallest one’s legs. They jumped back unfortunately, and Bronn twisted his blade to deflect another blow. He kicked out at the smallest one, sending them staggering. While the smallest one was still recovering his footing Bronn grabbed him and threw him into the tallest, sending them both to the ground. Bronn danced away, grinning. The two untangled themselves, and as the smallest one jumped to his feet Bronn struck again, dragging the razor-sharp edge of his longsword against the back of the man’s right leg. The man dropped, crying out, and Bronn turned to redirect the blow of the tallest away. His sword rose and fell, and the tallest one dropped to the ground, dead. Bronn pivoted on his right food and struck again, and the smallest one followed his other two comrades into the grave.
For the next few minutes – Bronn wasn’t actively counting the time – he battled. Each opponent was vastly outmatched by the Blackwater, but he was having fun. Nothing got the blood pumping like a good fight. After a time, the silver glint of his blade was marred by red, and his clothing was splattered with it. He was just finishing off another opponent when he heard a sudden shout from behind him.
“Drop your weapons or I’ll slit the bitch’s throat!”
Both Bronn and Kjorn spun around towards the direction of the shout. Kjorn cursed, but dropped his arakh swords nonetheless. Bronn eyed what was before him; the clear leader of the group, judging by the way the others crowded around him, was holding Leigh in a rather precarious position. One arm was across Leigh’s chest, pinning her arms to her sides while holding her close to his body. The other held a rather long dagger to her throat, digging the sharp side of the steel into the skin of her neck. He gave Kjorn, the chained man and Bronn a wicked grin. “Drop your weapons now or I will slit her f**king throat.” He dug the blade into Leigh’s throat hard enough to draw a thin line of blood.
Bronn eyed him for an instant longer and then complied, unclenching the fingers of his right hand one by one to drop his longsword. It fell to the dusty, blood-soaked ground with a clatter that rang in the warehouse that was now silent except for the heavy breathing of those who had been battling for their lives but a few moments prior.

Leighton Vallaway ;; Nephilim
Leighton was far too busy with her own problems to really stand and watch Kjorn perform like a dancer of war, but she did hear the sounds of his attacks echoing throughout the warehouse. She could imagine the sheer speed and agility he was conducting, stunning the hell out of the adversaries and making the drop like dead weights. Determined to save his son, zero mercy was being shown to anyone around him. Kjorn really was a knight in shining armor coming to the steadfast rescue. The scraping of steel seemed to echo at another position, Leighton getting glimpses of Bronn fighting with his own swords since he was relatively closer to her. She delved further into the compound and was mainly trying to gravitate closer to Asriel’s position, constantly being interrupted by more hunters looking to slice open her throat. Leigh took far from gentle care with them, but she glanced swiftly to Asi once more and that battered sight of him sent cold chills through her veins. He was torn apart, maybe more so emotionally by that look in his eyes.
That moment caused an opening in her guard, enough for another man to take advantage of her distracted form. It was not another one of the lackeys running around, trying to kill the avenging trio of goodness and light. Rather, it was the leader of the whole entourage, and he grabbed Leighton so quickly that she had zero time to defend herself. With the bow and daggers speedily stripped from her by another, she was yanked harshly against the hunters’ commander with her arms pinned down achingly. Trapped. Even the knives were not an option of escape, the rest of her weapons in an impossible position for her to wiggle her hands toward them. The nephilim found herself in a very unpredictable situation with a seemingly unpredictable foe. Sneering at this clear advantage, the leader shouted out to the other fighters in a hostile warning.
”Drop your weapons or I’ll slit the bitch’s throat!”
Damn it.
Leighton growled under her breath, her eyes narrowed into a resenting glower as she side-eyed the cruel man. Her focus shifted to Kjorn, though, and there was this warning look in her eyes. It was as if she were ordering him to not drop his weapons despite her dangerous position of life or death. Leigh did not want to be the reason why Kjorn didn’t get his son back. She was already swimming in bloodily guilt for the shit she had done to Asriel. Leigh gritted her teeth and furrowed her eyebrows, giving the angel a few tight shakes of her head, just pleading for him not to give in. Just let her die, Kjorn. Get your son back. Don’t worry about a girl you barely know and think about the boy you do, a boy just waiting for his angelic father to save him from the hell he was stuck in. Her gestures did nothing and Kjorn did the exact opposite, letting his arakh blades clang against the ground.
Her eyes shut in defeat, and she felt her throat tighten at the prospect of her being the cause of Asi’s impending death, as well as the deaths of Kjorn and yes, Bronn. Leigh’s body went tense once again when she felt the tip of the dagger dig into her skin. Cursing in her mind, Leighton let out a startled hiss, her eyes flickering open again so she could glare at the leader. A f**k you look. Damn it. Leighton was unsure of exactly how this was going to end, but she wasn’t holding her breath over the idea of surviving this. In the position she was imprisoned in, it didn’t seem like this man had any intentions of letting her go. Kjorn had to have known that, too. He was mostly likely already studying the situation and thinking through the outcomes, but he still had to have known. The odds were not in Leighton’s favor.
Which prompted her to say what she said next.
“Asi.” Leighton ignored anyone else and put her full, unwavering attention on the chained-up man. “I’m sorry.” She just blurted it out, swallowing hard as she felt the tip of that knife still grazing her skin, the drips of blood flowing down her neck. Leighton stared at Asriel with a broken heart and so much guilt-stricken regret painted on her face. “I’m sorry for everything.” She ground her teeth, shutting her eyes tightly and releasing a shaky and weighted breath. “I’m sorry for making you feel like you weren’t worth it.” There was frustration in her tone, all of it directed toward herself and no one else. Leighton released a humorless laugh, as if scoffing at her own ignorant self. “I was such a f**king fool and the biggest mistake I ever made was hurting you.” She declared firmly in such a distraught fashion that she seemed to gradually become numb, the tension in her shoulders slowly fading.
It was like she was accepting the eventual outcome. “Remember what I told you at that bar? I told you that you were a good soul.” She reminded him as if needing him to remember that moment and remember the way she looked at him with such honesty and devotion. “And I meant it.” Leighton swore on everything she knew that she was not lying and this was not a game or nightmare in Asi’s mind. This was real and Leigh was there, spilling out her heart and trying to give him an apology that could never really be accepted. Far past forgiveness, she had told Kjorn. “I meant it then and I mean it now, more than ever. And I was blind enough to question what I already knew to be true. That you are a good soul and you have more humanity than this whole damn city and the world itself.” She was breathless, letting a stray tear slip.
Leighton’s heart was caught in her throat, but she still cracked a smile, nodding several times in affirmation. “I just… need you to know, okay?” She told him seriously. She didn’t want Asriel’s last memory to be of the anger and betrayal in her voice and her eyes like that night. If Leigh’s life really was going to end now, she needed to tell him.
“I need you to know that I love you and I’m so sorry.”

ARTHUR ROTHCHILD - - -
As Arthur began to remember the last events, his mind desperately tried to wrench him away from the memories. "don't look. don't look. don't look..." it chanted. In the end, the memories were not whole pieces or snapshots, but rather they hung in tattered ruins, shredded by his mind to keep the trauma at bay. They wavered, showing different angles and slashes of what happened. His eyes turned to Dr. Xi, pale as snow and beautiful as an angel. But human. As he described the instances, part of Arthur was forcing him to disassociate, to lift himself out of his own body and listen to the events without falling into a hole he couldn't climb out of.
And part of Arthur saw the events. The gold chain curled around his ankle, the heels biting into the contours of his foot, the shifting metallic shirt that they wanted him to wear. The gold dust they carelessly threw everywhere, the sparkles getting caught in his lashes and on his lips, tasting sickly sweet. He whimpered, fingers clutching the edge of the bed, nails chipped, but still painted gold. And the strange muggy cold that gripped him as mist descended onto the city and he was led with his 'masters' [ his brain spat the word out, bitter as venom ] to the car. And then the ambush. Being knocked to the side, the ache in his ribs from a well placed boot kick and pain leaking into his hand from where it slammed against the pavement.
And then his vision went blurry. Just dark pain, throwing him in and out of the world, blackness sprinkled with sunbursts so hot it hurt. And then nothing. Just haziness, nightmares, and now the pale doctor. His eyes finally lifted again to Dr. Xi as he finished what he knew of the tale. Arthur felt the lump forming in his throat, dissolving quickly into tears again. Tears he couldn't stop from pooling in his eyes and sliding down his temples and into his fair hair. He thought of his family as Dr. Xi asked. The tears spilled faster, easier, heavier. He hadn't spoken to them in so long. They were all grown, living their own lives. But he wanted nothing more than for them to hold him, tell him it'd be okay, that he was still whole despite losing the thing that made him who he was. Arthur opened and closed his mouth, vaguely resembling a fish that was dying on land.
"My siblings," he gasped out, his brain finally weaving the correct threads together in order to say something. "They live on Ellery. Silverlight Lake, Ingrid should still live there," he breathed, closing his eyes tight. "Or maybe Micky, it's been so long since I've spoken to any of them," his voice was choked as he tried to breathe through the tight ball of panic and anger and fear that was mangling his lungs and heart and throat together.
DANIEL BIRD - - -
Daniel felt a shiver run down his spine, realizing exactly what Kai was hinting at. His eyebrows raised slightly. "Lovers?" His voice kind of caught on the word. To be honest, Daniel had assumed the game at the club was just that, a game. And maybe this was too. A part of Daniel was coiled in fear, urging him to get up and run. To be as far away as possible. The less rational side of him was practically purring, happy to have male attention for the first time in, shall we say a while? And Daniel had assumed that after this night they'd never see each other again and the beautiful golden vampyre would be just a memory, a whisper of what could have been. To be honest, Daniel was not sure how he'd be able to separate public and private relationship distinctions if it went on beyond the "one-night stand" anyone would assume it was.
But it was getting late and Daniel felt exhaustion nagging at his bones, nipping at his heels like a dog. And he wanted to get home and rest before work later. He stood as Kai wandered to the door and he slid his coat back on over his shoulders, pocketing his journal and putting his coffee mug in the sink and stepping carefully around the grouchy cat before going to the door as well. He was partially expecting Kai to just open the door and awkwardly say goodbye, but oh boy did Daniel really not know Kai.
"I am going to have to make you look a bit disheveled though, sweetheart," Kai said and without warning reaching up and started carding his fingers through Daniel's hair, messing it up and pulling gently at it. Daniel felt warmth rush to his face as Kai moved closer, fingers unbuttoning the top two, no three, buttons of his shirt. "Hmm, you're right," Daniel whispered, voice equally soft as he reached down and untucked his button down, wincing a bit as he ensured that the gun against his back didn't spill onto the floor, because that would be a mood killer. "Maybe you should be a little mussed too, hmm?" Daniel murmured, brushing his fingers against Kai's hair, trailing them down to his jaw, to the line of his throat where the gems glittered softly.
They were so close now. Close enough for Daniel to collapse the distance and seal their lips together. "I'm surprised you haven't cuffed me by now, sweetheart," Kai's voice just brushed across Daniel. And they made his stomach flip, butterflies igniting as heat coiled low and even more warmth colored Daniel's face. "How about you give me a reason to?" Daniel breathed back, his other hand lightly curling around Kai's wrist, featherlight and soft. He was sure Kai could feel his heart hammering out of his chest.

( Good morning/afternoon everyone, how are we all doing today? on the bright side Lucien only has one wing left to take and people may not even want it! )
