DEFINITIONS OF RANKS:
Moiety-the group of cats which respect is shared equally and all cats are the same, no matter the rank of the cat. Eminence-An important cat, they are the leader and are respected by the moiety, they are always checked by ShimmerLights before becoming leader Forerunner-The deputy of the Clan, helps out with the leader when planning patrols and battles, which is rare. They are trustworthy, and may go through a test before the Eminence sees them capable of becoming Forerunner. If the Eminence dies before receiving nine viabilities, all combatants will be watched by theShimmerLights, before the Healer goes to see who the ShimmerLights have chosen as the next Eminence Healer-the healer of the Moiety, they heal all cats and have contact with the ShimmerLights from time to time, when they feel it is important to. They are wise and knowing, and learn that from their Ancillary and listen to the tales of the Venrables. Combatants-the warriors of the Moiety, they protect the keepers and Tenderfoot’s Keepers-tom cats and she-cats who protect the mollies in a battle, and provide food for them. A Mollie may become a keeper after their Mollies-the queens of the Clan, mother of the fledglings, protected by the keepers and fed by them Tenderfoot-apprentices of the Clan, they will take care of the Venrables, protecting them and feeding them. Fledglings-kits of the Clan, they will be kit like and playful until six moons, when they will start doing simple duties, clearing their own nests and the Keepers nests. Venerables-the elders of the Clan, they are very wise and tell the Healer stories of the past and tips to help them become wise. ShimmerLight-a place where cats go once they die, also known fondly as “Haven” Viabilities- the lives which a cat receives as leader.

Chapter 1Hazel Birch’s POV
A reddish brown she kit shuffled in her nest, watching as her brother playfully wriggled his haunches, about to pounce on a ball of moss.
Oh no you don’t.. She thought with a smirk on her face, ready to intrude Shrew Tail’s game. Quick as a flash, she pounced on the brown tom, his black paws striking back at her in almost an instant.
”Hazel Birch! What are you doing?” He growled at her as she pinned him down, swiping at her chest. What was the relevancy of this again? She pondered at his question a second, and preceded to grab the moss ball off him.
“Hey, that’s not fair!” Shrew Tail hissed at her and pounced again. ”Well maybe you should pay more attention!” Hazel Birch rushed off with the moss in her jaws, bumping into something soft.
“You two should be making moss nests, not playing with the contents of it!” A strict yell of Sunny Burr made Hazel Birch wince, and drop the ball of moss. Why is Sunny Burr so strict?.. The kit thought, staring at the green clump infront of her. I ask too many questions. She shook her head, and walked over to where Shaded Leafaf was nursing her three kits.
”So you’ve become an age to start helping out in the nursery. Let me guess, that’s what you’re practicing for.” Shaded Leaf let out a small purr, allowing Hazel Birch to press the moss amongst the nest and take out the old clumps. The kits squeaked as Hazel Birch pulled moss from beneath them.
Like I ever would. Sunny Burr would be criticism from every corner. Hazel Birch thought in her head, but plastered a smile to her face, not wanting to offend the mollie.
“But of course, everyone shall have their free opinion. This is of course the Moiety of the Rising Sun.” Shaded Leaf announced, suddenly glaring outside the den. “Unlike them Moiety of the Darkened Skies. Be glad you are not there young one. They treat their cats in order of strength, and not equally.”
Hazel Birch looked hesitantly back at the mollie, her neck fur bristling slightly at her comment. But she spoke before she could stop herself. “Surely the Moiety of Darkened Skies can’t be that bad?” She said, and Shaded Leaf stiffened. ”Are you saying you would rather be in a group where there is no freedom?” Shade Leaf’s raises voice scared the brown cat slightly.
”I don’t know what I was saying.” Hazel Birch mumbled awkwardly as she turned away to go back to her brother. But there was a slight bugging in the back of her head. Are Moiety of Darkened Skies really that bad?

Chapter 2Scattered Leaves POV
“Straighten out your tail more, and let your weight spread evenly on your paws.” Scattered Leaves moves her paws hesitantly as her guider, Dappled Holly watched her carefully.
Don’t even think of trying to compare me to my brother again. Scattered Leaves lip curled as she saw Dappled Holly gaze over at her brother, Rising Night, perfect yet another fighting move. “You’re stuck with me, Dappled. Better stop gazing at what your perfect tenderfoot would be like, and focus on me. If Scarred Bark takes another ranking off you- well I don’t know.” Scattered Leaves shrugged, gazing at the tortoiseshell, who looked angrily at her for a second, then turned back.
”Both of us don’t want to get shredded, so I suggest you attempt something today.” Dappled Holly hissed in her ear, Scattered Leaves nodding, but sighing. ”You know my legs are too stubby to do this properly.”
Dappled Holly sighed at the calico’s whining, and sat down beside her. “Maybe your training needs to be approached in a different way...” Dappled looked on into the forest, her mind suddenly clicking. “It’s a little unorthodox, but if you stretch your legs outwards, it’ll distribute weight out evenly, however, that means there would be no support on your middle.” Well it certainly sounds better than the other option. The tenderfoot thought, stretching out her front paws uncertainly, then her back legs. It certainly felt a little weird not to be bunched up in a normal crouch, instead splayed out, but she felt it was easier. ”Well at least no ranking will be taken off us today.” Scattered Leaves gazed up at Dappled Holly, who nodded, blowing out a puff of air.
”Who said I was never watching?” Both cats fur spiked up as they turned to find Scarred Bark walking up to them, her claws unsheathed, and slowly walking across the marshy floor.
”I apologise, Scarred Bark.” Dapple Holly dipped her head at the dark tabby leader, who grunted in response.
She strolled by Scattered Leaves, the tenderfoot quivering a little as Scarred Bark narrowed her eyes at her. ”Unable to complete a simple hunting crouch, one ranking off.” The leader snapped at Scattered Leaves, her wincing slightly. Scarred Bark then looked towards Dappled Holly, her gaze a face of disgust. ”Unorthodox way of training, two rankings off. Another ranking off for being distracted while training.” Scarred Bark’s words were like venom to the tortoiseshell she cat.
Scattered Leaves sighed, sitting down on the floor, watching as she padded away, then gazing up at Dappled Holly guiltily. Dappled Holly simply looked mournfully at Scattered Leaves. The calico felt a stab of remorse and shame at her guider losing three ranking. Dappled Holly, had once been one of the Moiety’s best combatants. But she’s lost it thanks to me.. Scattered Leaves trailed off in thought. Each cat would start with ten rankings from a kit, they could be lost for any reason, Scarred Bark could pick one out of anything. Scattered Leaves hadn’t tried to remember, there was too many mistakes that could be made. Once a cat had no rankings left, they would be cast out the Moiety. Dappled Holly was currently on six rankings, herself on five. One she’d just lost, another for messing up moss bedding, and two for sneaking out without permission.
Of course Rising Night had more than her. He had nine rankings- one lost, the blame put on her for that- a situation she wouldn’t be willing to discuss. He’s the perfect kit. She snapped under her breath. Anything I try and do, he’s always more important than me, and better than me.
While in deep thought, Scattered Leaves realised that her guider had now left the clearing, leaving her sitting in a marshy clearing. Feeling pitiful, she sat for a few more heartbeats in silence. A breeze rushed by, ruffling her pelt slightly, but Scattered Leaves swore she could hear something whispering. “If you realised you are important, Scattered Leaves. You have something big ahead.”

Chapter 3 Sunny Burr’s POV
Another restless day, looking after the kits.... Sunny Burr groaned as he got up from his afternoon nap. If Dawn Fire hadn’t butted in and said I was destined to be a Keeper, I might be doing something interesting.
The golden tom had been destined to be a nursery keeper after becoming a combatant, Dawn Fire had said. And back then, maybe the wise tom was right. But there was only so much playfulness from the fledgings he could take in.
”Loosen up a bit.” Plum Tail brushed her pelt against his as she walked out the den. How can I? Pesky fledglings not doing what they are told.
“Is something troubling you, Sunny?” He looked up to see the dark brown mollie Copper Willow gazing at him. ”There’s nothing much that’s troubling me, just your daughter was misbehaving a little with the moss beds.” Copper Willow rolled her eyes at him, earning a slightly shocked look back. ”Fledglings will be Fledglings.” And with that, the she cat walked off.
”You know what night it is tonight, right?” He turned to find Ember Spark approaching him. Ember Spark’s rhyming words confused him a little, but he shook his head, “It’s the Gathering night, tonight’s a one which I’m not looking forward to.” Ember Spark shivered, his tail tip quivering. ”Why not?” Sunny Burr bristled his neck fur slightly. Gathering Nights.. The worst nights of each moon.
“Apparently, the Moiety took four rankings off some cats yesterday. You know that’s never good.” Sunny Burr agreed with the tom. The rankings taken off each catwere listed at every Gathering time, Scarred Bark listing out each car and each ranking they had lost. Not the The Moiety of the Rising Sun would want to know, as most of the time, they listened horrified, at the simplest things which the cats had been shunned for. ”Maybe it’s that Scarred Bark who’s doing it. I feel them cats want some freedom, they suffer under her leadership.” Sunny Burr spoke to the tom, Ember Spark nodding briskly. “Well I’ll leave you to it, get prepared for tonight. Oh,and also, there’s a patrol later this Sunhigh.” ”I’ll get to it.” Sunny Burr groaned and slouched down. All he wanted to do was run through the forest, feel the luscious ground beneath his paws. Not be wound up in camp changing the kits nests, and doing a slow patrol every now and then. Sunny Burr flinched as suddenly y a voice passed through his ears. Confused, he listened to what it said.
And maybe you won’t have to do that much longer..
You have a destiny, and you can change all of this.

Chapter 4
Finch Stripe’s POV
The young tom sighed, sweeping his tail in frustration as a mouse scuttled off across the floor. Yet another miss. I’ll never become a combatant by this chance.Sighing, the pale brown cat got up from his crouch, and tasted the air for the scent of more prey. Finding none, he flopped his tail in disappointment, then found his sister, Sap Flower, carrying a bunch of prey in her jaws. ”Do you know where Silent Water is?” She asked, approaching her sibling while he stared at the fresh-kill caught. ”No, but I think I saw Nimble Tail run back to camp, I’m just heading there now. Maybe he followed?” He responded, walking alongside the brown and white tabby. I wish I was as good a hunter as Flower.“Tonight’s gathering night, you two.” The black pelted and blue eyed she cat; Nectar Frost approached both cats, panting as she came beside them. ”Yeah I know.” Sap Flower replied with a jerk of her head. “Them poor cats in the other Moiety.” Finch Stripe felt himself awkwardly drift away from the conversation, and he allowed both cats to walk beside on another as he took a step backwards. I’m not wanted there anyway, only I wish Breeze Clouds would stop demanding I get some friends and gain confidence. As he pattered into camp, a bunch of cats were already gathered together, including his mother, and guider Nimble Tail. Hesitantly, he went and sat next to Nimble Tail not wanting to disturb his parent’s conversation with Light Puddle, who was Forerunner in the Clan. ”What are you doing here?” Nimble Tail asked, brushing his black tail down Finch Stripe’s pelt. “You should be speaking with your friends.” That I don’t have. Finch Stripe thought, but too mortified to say it out loud. ”O-okay.” He nodded to his guider, who’s whiskers in wonder when he realised Finch had no prey. ”Did you catch any prey, Finch?” Finch Stripe sagged his tail in embarrassment, not wanting to answer. ”No I didn’t Nimble Tail.” He put his head down, to mortified to see his look. ”Don’t worry, Finch, that was your first independent hunt. It all takes time.” ”But Sap Flower caught all that.” He turned his head jealously to his sister, who was boasting to Silent Water about her catches. ”And Sap Flower started independent hunting before you.” The dark tabby reminded him gently. “I-” The tenderfoot was about to reply, under Burning Pelt’s voice echoed in the clearing. ”Cats going to the gathering night this time are; Creek Wing, Curling Talon, Smoky Branch, Sunny Burr, Rainy Falls, Pollen Breeze, Sap Flower and Finch Stripe.” The small brown cat felt his heart drop as his name was announced. No! I can’t go, I’ll be an embarrassment to the Moiety- Burning Pelt knows I’m always to panicky and nervous! Finch Stripe begin to panic in his head, until Smoky Branch came over to him, looking at him in concern. ”I’m fine.” Finch Stripe spluttered, the reddish brown tom giving him a anxious look, but walked up to Creek Wing, to start having a conversation with her. Yet, he still looked back at the tenderfoot, concern filled in his eyes. Shimmer Lights- at least let me get through this night without making a mess of myself.
“You okay Finch? You seem nervous.” Finch Stripe gazed up as Creek Wing looked at him, her green eyes filled with light concern. Smoky Branch probably got her to look out for me. Finch Stripe growled a little, turning his head from the red she cat. ”Yeah I’m fine Creek Wing.” He shaking out his pelt as he answered. ”Well just call by if you need any help.” Creek Wing pulled out of the conversation to go speak to someone else, and the brown tom was glad. Well now I can awkwardly sit here for the rest of the night.Finch Stripe sat down slowly, his eyes scanning the area for cats, until he felt himself being shoved from behind. ”Watch it!” He snapped loudly, annoyed to be pulled out of his tranquility. ”S-sorry.” He heard a voice as he got up, and turned to find a pretty calico looking at him, amber eyes filled with worry. ”Who are you?” He asked politely, dipping his head at the fellow tenderfoot. ”I’m Scattered Leaves, nice to meet you.” She shakily held out a paw, gazing at him with uncertainty, and he followed, awkwardly pressing his paw to hers in a form of greeting. ”What’s Scarred Bark going to announce tonight?” He asked her, the content smile instantly wiped off her face, and her shuddering. ”Well, three rankings off Dappled Holly and a ranking off me.” He looked in immense horror at the poor tenderfoot, who looked like she would break down. He couldn’t help but feel a pang of sympathy and a wash of worry for where she might go if she were banished. Then again, he shouldn’t feel this strongly about a tenderfoot he had known for such a short amount of time. Feeling overwhelmed, he excused himself and tooo a few steps back. I can’t be friends with her, they always go horribly wrong.“Finch?” He turned and looked up to find the yellow Sunny Burr strolling towards him, his ears flicking. ”What do you want?” Finch Stripe felt close to snapping to the tom, who was surprisingly calmer than normal. ”I came to talk to you.” Sunny Burr walked over, and pressed his tail on the tenderfoot’s shoulder. ”Go over there, speak to her.” Sunny Burr gestured to Finch Stripe. “You do have the confidence, it’s in here.” Sunny Burr tapped his chest lightly. ”I know you won’t regret in Finch. Try it, you never know what might happen.” Extremely surprised at the toms change in attitude from normal, Finch Stripe hesitantly took a step towards Scattered Leaves. “Don’t miss out on friendships like I did. Take them while you have the chance.” There was one final murmur, and Finch Stripe turned to locate Sunny Burr, but he was already gone. Take Sunny Burr’s advice. Friendship will be important for the tasks you set ahead. You are worth more than you think, Finch Stripe.Confused, Finch Stripe shook his head and stared at Scattered Leaves. “So what you wanna talk about?”

Chapter 5Sunny Burr’s POV
The yellow tom watched over the cats, his green eyes showing glances of a misty glare as he stared at Creek Wing through the bushes.
Surely the tenderfoot can manage by himself? Sunny Burr thought to himself, dragging his paws upwards to stand and walking towards Silent Water, still taking glances at Finch Stripe every once or twice. ”Have you heard that Hazel Birch has been hearing strange voices?” The white tom lowered his voice to Sunny Burr as two of the other Moiety’s Cobatants passed.
”Has she?” Sunny Burr tried not to give his look of dread and turned away for a heartbeat. Me too.. His mind could not stop from wandering off, but he coughed lightly and turned back to Silent Water. ”I’m sure it’s nothing.” The keeper replied, his voice frosty. ”Yeah, definitely. A kit is waking up in the middle of the night, screaming for her mother and that the Moiety will end! We can’t be destroyed be that pack of mousebrains.” Trust me, Silent Water. It is very real. Sunny Burr blinked back, then looked up at the High Ledge to see Burning Pelt and Scarred Bark sat next to one another, neck fur remaining bristling.
”Moiety of the Rising Sun have had three new kits born to Shaded Leaf and Silent Water. Juniper Pool, Falling Stalk and Rainswept Ledge.”
”What strange names, fitting for such strange cats.” Sunny Burr heard a remark off a ginger tabby tenderfoot ahead of him. Silent Water looked rabid, as if he would then at any moment.
Then Scarred Bark approached further up the Ledge, her amber eyes glowing as she looked down at her Moiety. “I have some very serious disappointments in my Moiety at this time. Falling Water- did fail to lead a patrol correctly- one ranking off. Along with two of the worst cases, Dappled Holly, three rankings off for unorthodox training and being distracted while training a tenderfoot. Scattered Leaves , one point off for failing to do a simple hunters crouch.”
Sunny Burr saw a calico near Finch Stripe wince in embarrassment as a small crowd gazed at her. For some reason, he had the urge to go and meet them, but pulled back from the idea.
A voice yet again rang in his head, and what it told him, he couldn’t help but feel fearful.
Go to the Pebble Track tomorrow Sunset. There you will find the ones you will endure your quest with.
What quest? What cats?? He couldn’t help but panic, but a grudge told him he had too.

Chapter 6Shivering Moon’s POV
The tiny white kit sighed as he lay beside his mother, practically begging for warmth as he was shoved aside by his brother. And Crouching Shade hogs all the attention again. Shivering Moon hissed to himself, turning back to look at his mother, Ivy Creek, who was washing Crouching Shade’s ears.
”You’ve got to look the best today my sweet.” She murmured to the golden kit throughout washes. ”Yes ma.” Crouching Shade nodded his head in response, and turning to glare at Shivering Moon.
Here we go again... Shivering Moon sighed, taking a step back into a crouch. “Looks like someone can’t clean themselves.” Crouching Shade jeered at his brother, for there was a scuff mark of dirt on his flank. ”Looks like someone’s being a ma’s kits.” Shivering Moon retorted, inbetween cleaning his flank and glaring back at his brother.
”Honestly, why do I waste my energy on such a stupid small kit? You’re not going to be anything, let’s face it.” Crouching Shade approachedcloser to the snowy kit, who looked back up at him. Well if you’re the bigger kit, there’s more of you to dislike! He felt like snapping, but restrained himself from doing so and stepped out the nursery.
“Hello Shivering Moon.” He looked up to find Little Puddle staring down at him. Shiver scoffed in reply, scuffing his paws in the dirt as he walked away. Little Puddle had tried to convince him to become a Healer for moons now. Only because I’m half-deaf- I know it. Not because “I’m skilled with herbs” like he says.
His gaze averted to where Swift Clouds and Lapping Shore were sharing prey. Looking at the ground, he felt a tail lay on his flank. ”I said I don’t want to become a healer!” Shiver was about to shout, until he saw Fallen Flower and Yew Thistle, a slight look of shock on their faces. ”Calm down kit! We only wanted to show you some moves.” Yew Thistle said quite harshly, but the white tom felt a ripple of happiness. That slight moment was turned to confusion as he noticed brown calico Fallen Flower swaying gently on her paws next to the combatant. ”Im half-deaf too. I thought I could help with hunting and stuff like that.” The she cat gave him a warm look, practically reading his mind.
“Well done Shiver!” Shivering Moon purred in pleasure as Fallen Flower congratulated him. “You’ll master the crouch in no time.” Yew Thistle responded, bending down to his height. “Remember to keep weight distributed on paws evenly and keep your tail still.”
The young fledgling beamed, sticking his tail up as a thanks as the two cats pattered off. It was now around sunset, and the sky was beginning to go orange. As he was about to go back to the nursery, a scent caught in his nose. Wonder what that is? Well, I’m up for a mission!
He ran quickly down the trail which the scent lead. It was a strange one, he would admit. He was lead through trees, over the Rock Ridge and at the end, near Rising Sun territory. Is that, Scattered Leaves’ scent? He thought, puzzled, and spotted a flash of calico pelt in the moonlight, through the trees.
Sliding through the undergrowth, he could harvoices.
“So, about these dreams?” ”I know Scattered Leaves, they puzzle me too. I don’t know what to do anymore. Hazel Birch has been having dreams like that too.” ”I might have more information though...”
Shivering Moon could not hear the rest of the conversation, it was cut as he accidentally stepped on a twig.
”What was that?” He herd the conversation pause, and pawsteps approach in his direction.
“I was saying there might be a fourth cat, Finch Stripe.”
Shiver ran fastly, hoping the two cats would not run after him, his breath racing as he finally slowed down. I’m glad I didn’t get caught. And now I know who the cats are- but who’s the fourth?

Chapter 7Hazel Birch’s POV
Huh, Sunny Burr’s been acting differently lately.. The reddish cat couldn’t help but gaze at the golden tom in wonder, noticing his faded green eyes across the clearing, unlike the normally stern green ones. ”Why you looking at Sunny Burr all the time?” Rainswept Ledge approached her, rolling her amber eyes. ”It’s nothing.” Hazel Birch shrugged as Falling Stalk laughed behind them. ”Has someone got a crush?” The smoky tom teased, before Hazel Birch pounded onto him.
”No I don’t! And nothing’s wrong, okay?!” Hazel Birch snapped down at the bulky tom, who scrabbled his paws at her belly unsuccessfully. Yanking her head in the way of Rainswept Ledge, she gave a warning growl before the kit hesitated and flustered off over to Shaded Leaf.
Suddenly, the tiny kit came to a realisation of what she had done as the angry mollie approached her. Jumping off Falling Stalk, she ran off in a quick sprint, her heart pounding as she could feel footsteps take chase. ”Come back Hazel Birch!” A call of Shrew Tail hollered through the undergrowth, but she resisted her brother’s voice, storming off in a flurry.
Still, the paws took chase behind her, and a shadow cast. ”Please, Hazel Birch! Stop- I- I just want to talk.” Flickering an ear, she was surprised to find it was Sunny Burr, although his voice was gentle instead of harsh, as it usually was. What’s his problem? And when has he ever been concerned with me?
”What do you want?” Hazel Birch stopped, and turned to look up at the golden tom, who passed through a clump of ferns before approaching her. ”You know- the voices, the dreams?”
The reddish cat looked back up at him in surprise. How does he know? She thought, before shaking her head and looking at him. ”I do know them.” She meowed, her gaze looking down at her paws, and began playing with a bundle of moss. ”Well-“ Sunny Burr looked uncomfortable, his claws kneading into the grass. “I’ve had the same voices, and I think we’re supposed to be important.”
She couldn’t help but roll her eyes at his comment, “Well no way, fox-brain, I would never of guessed.” A rush of air swept through her mouth, a sigh which she didn’t know she had been holding.
”Wait here.” Sunny Burr got up and tasted the air, her flicking an ear in response. ”I smell Moiety of Darkened Skies. A moist scent of rain, been out since moon rise. Smells something like the Rock Ledge? And from what I can hear, their fur keeps on getting caught in branches, suggesting they have a long pelt.”
”You got all of that from just a scent?” Her mouth dropped open in shock. ”Of course.” He replied, turning to look at her, “You need to have a good scent to find missing kits.” He smirked, then preceded to travel through the undergrowth. However, his pelt spiked up in realisation suddenly, and he stopped. ”I was supposed to be at the Pebble Track this afternoon!”
”So was I!” Hazel couldn’t help but raise her tail in response. At that moment, a white tom stumbled through the bushes, looking a little indecisive and flustered. ”Sorry.” The long haired kit mumbled, rubbing his muzzle with a paw tiredly.
”What’s wrong?” Sunny Burr nudged him to his feet gently. ”You’re Hazel Birch, right?” The kit turned to her and she nodded slowly. ”I heard two cats having a strange conversation about four special cats, who’ve been hearing strange voices and dreams. They mentioned you.”
As soon as he had finished his sentence, two cats had tumbled throug, which Hazel Birch recognised as Finch Stripe, and a calico she cat who she faintly remembered being named Scattered Leaves.
”Why were you listening to our conversation, Shivering Moon?” Scattered Leaves didn’t look particularly happy, she could admit. ”I’m sorry, okay? I just found a strange scent and had to follow it.” Shiver looked down at his paws, while Finch Stripe looked awkwardly up. ”So you’re the third cat Hazel Birch.” She nodded in reply. ”At least I think I am.” She added, slightly uncertain.
”So who’s the fourth cat? Shivering Moon looked up at the two tenderfoot’s, who shrugged in response.
”I am.” All four cats gazed in shock as an orange paw was raised. ”Sunny Burr? Are you kidding me?” Finch Stripe looked quite angry at him.
”Yes.” The tom whispered.
”How could it be you? After all you’ve done, and ShimmerLights would pick you?” The brown cat raised his voice higher.
”I know Finch Stripe. What I did, was horrid, but this is my chance to redeem myself. Please.”
”I won’t forgive you. Not after you abandoned her.”

Chapter 8Scattered Leaves’ POV
It was now the next early morning that Scattered Leaves returned with Shivering Moon back to camp. Tiredness inhaled her head, but she pushed her paws forward, where they came to a grassy scarp.
Wind wavered slightly between her fur. There she stopped, breathless. ”We need to go.” The kit beside her urged. I don’t care. You can go on for all you want Shiver, but right now, I’m too confused. She bit her lip and looked down at the white furred tom. ”I know that, Shiver. But right now, I don’t want to go back.”
”But I don’t want to get into trouble!” Shivering Moon circled, her neck fur bristling at how agitating he was being.
”Can you just calm down, for ONE second?” Scattered Leaves snapped, stomping a paw on the ground at the same time. “I’ve just discovered that I’m part of something big, and all you could care about right now is going home!”
Shivering Moon’s lip trembled with a slight fear, which then transferred to anger as he spat up at her. “Fine. But you’re not getting any help off me.” The tom turned and ran through the grasses, Scattered Leaves turning her head away.
Quietly, she observed her settings. The grass on the scarp was smooth and dense- there was surely some prey beneath it. Some rocks could also be seen jabbing through the grass, and there was a hefty sheet of rock sloping down a few foxlegnths from her paws.
”What are you doing here?” Dappled Holly suddenly appeared beside her, a concerned look for her tenderfoot. ”Nothing.” It was awkward enough that she could get into trouble again, and she wanted to be left alone. ”Where have you been?” The calico questioned and Scattered Leaves ignored it.
No one would care where she’d been anyway. Maybe she’d just get another two rankings off her, and be shamed massively at the Gathering, but presumably no one gave a mouse-tail about her, or so she thought. ”I’m here because I’m here.” She said simply, gazing at her mentor, who let off a confused look still.
”That doesn’t answer my question.” And Scattered Leaves shrugged in response. Would Dappled Holly not get the response that she just wanted to be left alone?
It was now sometime after Scattered Leaves awkward conversation with Dappled Holly. Her mentor had walked off, sick of the awkward silence which was shared between the both of them.
She always is an impatient one. The calico thought as she shuffled moss away from her nose. ”Well someone’s up after their crimes of yesterday’s sunrise.” She glanced up, noticing Rapid River stepping towards her, the ginger tabby holding somewhat of a smirk. The den felt suddenly cramped and flustered as the tom approached her.
It’s called awkwardness, you mouse-brain! She told herself, facing the ginger tabby and getting up from her nest. ”Scarred Bark wants to see you.” He said, his voice in a low hiss. ”You got another ranking taken off you?” Rising Night’s voice filled the air as the black tom approached behind Rapid River. ”This one was sneaking out at night.” “Not that it’s such a big deal.” She replied, rolling her eyes at both. ”Well it is such a big deal, sister!” Rising Night dropped the moss which he was carrying. “Each ranking taken off you, one step closer to being kicked out the Clan!”
That’s a hint of glee, I can tell he’s trying to cover. “Maybe you need to, y’know- not get into trouble?” Rapid River butted in, flicking an ear towards Rising Night and leaving.
Scattered Leaves twitched her tail hesitantly. Guess I’m in for it now.! That was the second time the She cat had been made to see Scarred Bark, something which evey cat would dread. But she could take it, she guessed.
”Good luck.” Rising Night said as she passed, but she knew there was a stifle of laughter in his voice.
”What do you want? Scarred Bark?” Scattered Leaves said into the clearing, some cats turning to gaze at her with shocked eyes. There was a barren breeze that drifted by as leaves crinkled. A shadow had cast across the clearing, and now Combatants looked on with fear. ”How dare you run so out of line in this Moiety!” A scree voice called out in the clearing, its tone strong and tough. ”I did not mean to do what I did.” Scattered Leaves replied to the shadow, her voice remaining unwavered. Hold yourself together, Scattered Leaves.
“Three rankings are left of you, or is it five?” ”F-five.” Scattered Leaves clammered a little as a tabby head approached up to her. ”What a misguided tenderfoot you are.” Scarred Bark tutted, her breath so close to Scattered Leaves it made her whiskers twitch.
”I know.” Scattered Oeaves responded briskly, stepping back, wincing as her paw jammed into a rock. ”Well at least we know. We always know with you!” The leader took a sharp step forward.
Think wisely now, Scatter. Don’t mess this up. “Please don’t do anything to me.” Scattered Leaves squeaked, and Scarred Bark glaring back. ”What? I wasn’t going to. Just the casual exilement.”
”N-no! P-please, you can’t do that!” The tenderfoot resided a paw, waving it madly. She took another step back. As now she could feel the leader’s amber chase piercing into hers.
Mousedung! That rock- great- now I’m injured. Scattered Leaves felt a jolt of pain rush up her leg as she darted around gazed to others. Rising Night had an accomplished look on his face, along with Rapid River, who held his usual smirk. Many combatants seemed the tiniest pitiful, some flattening their ears as she walked by, some giving her longing stares of sadness. The worst seemed Dappled Holly, however, who seemed crestfallen and weary.
I’m sorry Dappled Holly. The calico felt a swallow of guilt before she turned out the camp entrance.
What will I do now? She thought. Then, a light scent of Moiety of Rising Sun drifted into her nose. Maybe if I could live there?
