Number 1 has been decided on!
1 - Horror based mystery plot
For this I was wanting to go with something based on the creepy clown craze from a couple years ago. The basic plot would be a group of teenagers, probably high school age, who live in a small town. This town would have a record of multiple unsolved murders through the years. The murders would start up again and the high schoolers would have to solve the mystery behind the murders while avoiding the serial killer.
The main characters would have a chance of dying if the RPers couldn't figure out the mysteries in the rp.
Characters -- Each character will be based on a common archetype to make things easier for planning and character creation.
The Coward -
The Detective -
The Caregiver -
The Law (?) -
The Jester -
The Protector -
The Innocent - NPC. First character killed and the one that serves as a catalyst for the rest of the characters getting invested in the mystery.
The Journalist - I would rp this one and edit the front page as if they were taking notes of what's happening.

All of these ideas sound very interesting! But I think I like #2 the best, if not that one then either 1 or 3.

Everything here is really old, so excuse that lol
This is basically all of what I had planned so far. I tried to get this started before, so some other people have helped out. Please please give me your truest opinion. Don't like something? Feel free to shoot it down! This is, in a nutshell, the murderers wall. It could show his victims/targets, hints for the rpers, and other things that would relate to the rp. Each time it is edited it will either show something new that has happened or have a hint as to what the murderer is planning. I was thinking this could incorporate some mystery into the rp. What do you think?
This down here is what I had for the basic font page and what would set up the plot. I was thinking that it could be set somewhere with a fair amount of forests like Utah, Maine, etc. The town they would be in would be a small homey area that originally didn't see any activity with the clowns during the earlier years. The school would need a name, but it would be a high school and maybe the high school could be in a busy area? Now the reason for the murderer killing people... that's a hard one tbh. Most serial killers do it for the rush or that it makes them feel good or that they get off on it. I feel as if we should have a better reason for him killing. Whether it be mission oriented or a more visionary killer.
Also, since this is a smaller group rp I got some basic character archetypes that I think would fit the 'horror' setting. This is what I have. We can add more or take out some??
The Believer The Skeptic The Coward The Photographer The Jester The Innocent The Journalist - I would rp this one and edit the front page as if they were taking notes of what's happening.
This was the basic idea for the town written by BlanketPig :3 Eastvale The neighborhoods are quaint, the shops populated with familiar faces, and the farmlands wide. The heart of the town is a wide street that showcases the pizzerias, bakeries, fast food chains, ice cream parlors, dress shops, thrift stores, and antique warehouses, and the city hall. Following the road past it's brick shops and apartments will lead straight to the farms and scattered gas stations. Just in front of a untamed forest sits Redridge high school. Many students can be found tracking through the woods in search of the overgrown carnival that lost it's business in the 19__s.

All of this is pretty cool! And I absolutely love the idea of the murderer's wall. Tbh I wouldn't change any of this.
As for the murderer's reason for killing, I feel like in a lot of horror movies the killer's reason is something tied to their tragic past. Maybe they are killing out of spite or revenge? Or maybe something crazy like they have split personalities and one of them is murderous. But that one is a bit of a stretch lol.
For the archetypes, maybe we could add one that's the opposite of the coward? Like, the type of person who would be the first to walk into a killer's house if it meant saving their friends. They also could be the athletic type who would protect others. So maybe "The Brave" or "The Protector"?
If these ideas are bad I can try to come up with some other ones!

I'm glad you like the idea of the wall!! I thought it would be pretty fun, but kinda hard to execute in a rp. It'll take some work.
A tragic past is always a good thing to go for, and it gives the murderer a good reason. We could always go the 'genuinely crazy' person route as well. But that wouldn't make as fun of a mystery. Split personalities would be way cool, though maybe a bit over done.
I really like the idea of 'The Protector'!
Is there anything specific you'd like added?

I'll think of more ideas, and if I come up with something I'll let you know ^^
Though I did just think of another archetype. Would you be okay with the idea of a traitor amongst the group? Maybe someone who either knows the murderer personally and maybe sympathizes with them? Maybe they could try and sabotage the other's investigations and maybe even turn bad and try killing? That's kind of a stretch too though.
I think the hardest part will be planning the actual mystery itself. Do you have any events planned for that?

If we could get a traitor to fit in with it all, I think that would be a good idea!
Hmm yeah, planning the mystery has really been the reason why I haven't gotten it done. I had a basic idea of what I wanted, but it's really bare bones so changing it will be totally fine.
I originally wanted to do something with an underground type of setting. So, the way the killer would move around the small town without being seen would be the underground network of sewers or something along those lines. The killers house would be an older house that still had a basement that went underground. We could say that building under the ground had been stopped since the area we set the rp in could have a lot of rain (spooky setting lol). The hint to figure this out would be whenever it rained, drops of water could be seen on the 'wall'. Sorry if that makes no sense haha.
I went on a ghost tour a while ago and the town had been built up, so there was a lot of unused underground spaces and I thought that would be fun to incorporate. Seattle Underground
The majority of the mystery though will depend on what kind of killer we decide we want them to be. Are they older, younger, a missionary killer or a different kind? Personally I was going for an older man that had lived there for a long time and would, every few years, go on spree where he would kill many people. There could be a connection behind all the people murdered in the past and present which could play into the mystery.
Again, none of this was final. Just ideas!

All of this reminds me so much of IT lol. I love it.
What if the killer had a personal vendetta against the victims, and every few years he would target their families and kill one or two people from each family's generation? And part of the mystery is searching for the correlation between the families, who they knew, and any history of discourse between their family and someone elses. Which would eventually help them discover the killer's identity. I don't know ^^;
Looking at Seattle Underground, I REALLY like the idea of using the sewers and underground spaces. That would give it such a spooky vibe, like there's nowhere to run or escape when things get bad. The hint about the water on the 'wall' does kind of confuse me though lol. Which wall would it be exactly? The idea really is good though!

Post by 𝚜𝚙𝚊𝚛𝚔𝚜𝚌𝚊𝚝𝚝𝚎𝚛 on Jan 1, 2019 16:36:04 GMT -5
So the 'wall' idea is just something I would have on the front page. It would be a pinboard set in the killers basement, and on it would show the killers ideas and planning. And what I mean by drips of water coming from the ceiling would show that the killer has a basement underground, which is rare, which would lead the rpers to deduce that the killer lives in an older house and is probably and older person. Sorry that made no sense before, I hope this is a bit better!
I like the idea of the killer hating specific families!! The rpers could be decendants of the families. Maybe the killer could be from another family, and said family hated the other ones. That would give him a reason, as well as connecting them to the past killings.
And yeah, it's a bit like IT XD That's why I decided to do a RL killer instead of a supernatural one so they'd be different lol.

Ohhh the murderer's wall! Oops, okay I understand now lol.
oooh yes and that's what would put the rpers in danger, when the killer targets them one by one! This is interesting. Is there anything else you want me to work on? I have to leave for a while, but in the meantime I can try and think of more ideas.

Hmm if you could think up some plot points that would really help out. Like, specific events that will happen no matter what the rpers do. Things like background characters getting murdered, and other things that can help unravel the mystery. I'll try and write up a basic story line in the mean time. Also, anything else you think we need to add!! Thanks for the help!

So looking at the characters, I'm thinking of dropping the believer and skeptic since it's not really paranormal. Instead I'll add The Detective and something else. Maybe one or two more idk. Any ideas? I was thinking we could add someone who generally follows the rules and doesn't think the group should be doing what they are. The Law?? Also, I'll add The Caregiver since that's pretty common. The Explorer could also be something that would work.
|
|
|
Post by ᴀᴄʜʀᴏᴍᴀᴛɪᴄ on Jan 1, 2019 19:15:08 GMT -5
I like all of these! Can't really think of any more though. I feel like the Explorer might be unnecessary since ideally, everyone would already be 'exploring' and trying to solve the mystery. Unless they had another role?
Also for the background characters/victims, do they have to be in a specific age group? Like, is the killer only targeting younger people? I could also try and come up with reasons why the killer hates the victim's families.

Post by 𝚜𝚙𝚊𝚛𝚔𝚜𝚌𝚊𝚝𝚝𝚎𝚛 on Jan 1, 2019 19:17:21 GMT -5
Good point! I didn't even think of it that way lol.
As for his targets, I was thinking they'd be of younger age. Like the killer wants the older family members to suffer longer instead of just killing them off. Something along those lines. Some reasons for the hatred would be really helpful. I'll try and throw together a few as well.

Okay, I've got the basic idea of one of the murder victims down. These are just random ideas of mine so feel free to shoot it down or change it ^^ Eric Abernathy was a 22 year old male who was last seen leaving a smoke shop at around 23:00 at night. He was a chef at a local restaurant. His body was found the next day in the kitchen of the restaurant he worked at, with a steak knife stabbed through his chest. On his body would be a fresh pack of cigarettes along with a receipt stating his purchase at 23:00 that night (revealing that he never had the chance to use the pack, and was killed not long after buying it) The restaurant was also never locked, which would be a clue that Eric was about to lock up the restaurant when he was killed. Now this particular restaurant could be one that the killer has recently been frequenting in order to scope out the place and think of the best way to murder the victim. There are records of many people who ate at the restaurant, including the killer, but the one who stands out the most is a woman named Barbara Moniker. She was Eric's childhood friend, which is why she visited the restaurant so often. Maybe she becomes the next clue, and also the next victim. Also, the only potential motive I've thought of for the killer so far is that maybe he was severely bullied in his childhood, and the group of bullies grew up and had their own families while the guy resented them or something. But I'm not too sure about that one ^^; Though maybe his motive could have something to do with clowns, just to keep the clown theme.

I LIKE IT!! The last names might have to be switched up to fit the characters, but other than that I think it's really good!
As for the motive, I was thinking something along the same lines. Maybe a bit more dramatic though. Like, he was part of the friend group along with his younger sibling, and due to the group either bullying said younger sibling or doing something foolish on a dare the younger sibling died. And they never spoke about it or fessed up. Just something that could actually drive someone to murder and to murder multiple people over multiple years.
