Regarding Warrior's Official Artwork & Stock Images - -FIRST OFF -- everyone I apologize for the mistakes I've made here. (I want to smack myself right now you don't even know) because I was in the wrong for the warrior's artwork ban. As the site uses it for themes, the artwork from the books will be allowed under a condition--
GIVE CREDIT TO THE ORIGINAL ARTISTS! That would mean Wayne McLoughlin and the newer artists whose names I cannot find at the moment.
as long as this is done, you're free to use it. Again, I apologize because I caused trouble with this which is terrible on my behalf. I didn't mean to make such a mess. If you're angry about this, PM me or whatever. I'm taking all of the heat as it was only my mistake and not others.

Stock Images - - Below I will be including a list of websites that have stock images and licenses that apply to forums, allowing us to use them here. ʀᴀɪɴʟᴇᴀғ 🍁 suggested this and it will now be included in this thread. If you know of any sites yourself, please let me know so I can add them here! (they're also clickable.)You can actually filter images by their usage rights on google. Just tick off "labeled for reuse with modification" and the images that show up can be used.

@wolflover -- this doesn't mean you have to draw your own banners, you have other resources now such as stock images. They have pictures of cats, forests, etc.

i'm actually pretty sure use of the official art would qualify under fair use. yes, the works are copyrighted, but as long as due credit is given, no profit is made, and the usage doesn't interfere with the artists' rights, there really shouldn't be a problem. copyrights don't completely restrict usage; they just protect the rights of the artist from exploitation(people should definitely research copyright laws before they use art or photos they don't own, though!)
photos are a different story altogether tho, since they come from so many different sources. i know flickr(pretty sure dA does, too?) has a good search tool for creative commons images, so it might be worth researching different licenses and then looking for photos that are available for using and editing

I thought that Tomorrow said that Warriors art was ok, as long as the images were heavily edited?
Just a thought. I don't remember where it was posted, but I do remember seeing it. I can provide a link...
Sorry if this sounds rude. I'm just confused about the art since we've gotten so many different answers on this topic.

I think it's better and safe to stray away from the warrior's artwork for the time being. I've been on other warrior's rp sites and they don't allow the artwork. But, hey, all for it if we can use it. I'm iffy on the fact that we can and would be very very cautious of it. But you're definitely right about Flickr & dA, i checked that out last night.

Uh, quickk question: what about base-making? I know that making MLP bases by tracing show screenshots in MS Paint is popular... but can we actually post those? As long as we don't trace other people's drawing/vectors/etc. without permission, and just use show screenshots, would it be considered alright?
If this makes no sense, I'll post an example.

As long as you have permission for the base making, I think it'd be okay. Credit to the original person who created the base/line-art should always be given. For example, let's say my image was a Line-art that I colored in (I have 0 art skills). I'd obviously credit the original person by putting something in my status or signature.
Did it from from dA? If it did, most people have notes in the description of the art of how to credit and whatnot.
Hope I helped ;a;

Yep, that did. c: I was mainly talking about posting my own bases that I've made myself, but what you said made sense. Thanks!
Sorry about all my questions :L

If you want to go into copyright law, then I'll start. Copyright is very confusing, so obligatory "I am not a Lawyer" But, however many modifications you make, it's still not yours and still the property of the original creator. As for fair use, just making no money does not class as fair use. The exception is not for profit education, not just not for profit. So, keep that in mind.

shh, don't apologize I know I'm very confusing in my posts and it's my job to answer these anyways ~
- Thanks for the help, Softsneak-- I wouldn't know that much about copyright myself.

Yeah, it's one of the things I'm interested in. Don't know why, I just think copyright law is interesting.

Just to completely understand, even if it's heavily edited, it's still not allowed?

Just to completely understand, even if it's heavily edited, it's still not allowed? If you don't 100% own it, or 100% have permission, then you don't post it. If it's derived from someone else’s work without permission, you don't completely own it / completely have permission.

So, are we going to lose the banner at the top and the background, then? I mean, the Clan symbols are Warriors art, as is the map bit and the Warriors and Seekers titles. Aren't we just as likely to get lawsuited for that as for avatars or posts with the art in? Not trying to be obtuse or anything, just confused/wondering.

Ahh, okay okay I'm so so sorry everyone, I pretty much blew it on this. I should've looked further than I did, so I apologize for that. We no longer will be "banning" the artwork AS LONG AS YOU GIVE CREDIT TO THE ARTIST(S)! That would include Wayne McLoughlin, and some of the other artists. with that being said, I'm gonna lock this && edit it out.
