Intro
Short story short, I love dragons!
I particularly enjoy the idea of dragon-shifters. I love reading about them
( mostly through fanfiction since not many people are creative enough to write about them in novel form ;_; )
If you love dragons and roleplaying too, that is wonderful and please join!
I do not have many rules besides follow the forum rules and please be respectful towards everyone. I only truly ask that you have the ability to write a small paragraph of 3 lines or more. I don't require a novel but I actively dislike one-liners and such. For a roleplay to be fun and success, your posts need to have substance for someone to write a response towards.

Lore
In my mind, dragons are magical beings and incredibly smart therefore as times changed over the millennium. Dragons have learned how to evolve and hide in plain sight. They found the magic within to shift to a human form. It happened sometime after the dark ages. During the dark ages, dragons were well known and seen throughout the world. However, one can only take constant fear and attack from mortals before they decide to do something about. So dragons evolved with the help of magic and taught their kin. They have a sacred place in cold, high altitude place, where their magical source has been allowed to grow and thrive without the fear of mortals ever reaching it.
Dragons can live up to 500 years and do not get sick often. They are vulnerable for their first 50-100 years, especially for magic attacks; therefore, most parents came their dragonlings close to home.
0-50 years: human form = baby, toddler, child
50-100 years: human form = teenagers
100-200 years: human form = 20's
200-300 years: human form = 30's
300-400 years: human form = 40-60's
400-500 years: human form = 70s+
think of 150-400 years old as being a dragon's prime

Dragons range from all sizes. The smallest being the size of an elephant (11 ft) to the biggest being the size of old maple tree (50 ft). Their wings span depends on their height. Wings are covered by tiny lightweight scales making them look like stretched leather.
Dragons can range from any color. They tend to have natural tones like green, blue, or gray. There are some dragons that are copper, red, black, or silvery white color. It truly depends on their heritage. For example, if a dragon has blue scales, it would be safe to assume that their ancestors used to live close to the sea where they would blend in with the water or high in the mountains where they could soar without worry. Copper and red dragons could date their heritage back to the deserts and places where the red soil is seen.
Dragons can breathe fire (fireballs, continuous flame, green fire, blue fire, your choice) or ice or some even spurt poisonous gas. There are some cases where dragons never find their spark to break anything. These dragons depend on their skill in both forms to protect themselves if they were attacked.
Dragons can breed with humans.
(I can't decide, we are going to have two scenarios, that we can figure out later if we get to that situation)

1. There is no such thing as a half-breed, you are either a mortal or a dragon when you are born. There is a ritual to become a dragon if you were sired or birthed by one but it is highly dangerous to pursue.
2. When a dragon and human decide to mate, they mate for life. The mortal goes forth with a ritual that turns them into a dragon and they will live as long as their mate.
Dragons changing back and forth between forms takes approximately a one minute to three minutes, depending on how used they are to changing forms. Some dragons live in dragon form only(these guys are hermits) while others love their human forms.
Once in human form, they look much like mortals. Although they do have some residue of scales on their body like on their shoulders blades where their wings would rest in their dragon form or the ridge of their spine. The scales are in places where no-one can see them to protect the dragon's identity. Their eyes are snake-like, meaning their pupils are narrower than an average human. In human form, they retain their strong scent of smell and eyesight. They can easily recognize another dragon in human form and run much hotter than humans. They are also less likely to get burnt in human form.

Dragons do not have many enemies in their lives anymore since they disappeared after the dark ages, allowing mortal to believe that they drove away or killed the dragons. There are some mortals that know better. There are people who are self-proclaimed dragon slayers that still stalk and take down dragons.
Magical community is unaware of dragons, mostly due to their secretive nature. There are some witches and warlocks that work with dragons if they chose to expose themselves to other magical folk. Dragons do not take kindly to be being outed, even by their own kind.
Dragons are wary of the magical community, they remember how they used to clash in the olden days and fear that the magical community could harm them. Mortal weapons do not harm dragons in their natural form, yet magical weapons can be fatal.

setting
Dragons have different ideas about how and where to live.
Some dragons enjoy living in small towns surrounded by enormous woods. They tend to circulate through a series of towns to avoid suspicion when they don't age like mortals. Some of this types own multiple houses in different towns and will return after 50-70 years or so, claiming that they were "family" to the so-so's. Some dragons enjoy being close to mortals and live in cities, these dragons depend on traveling out of the city on a frequent basis to shift. Some dragons just tend to avoid mortals all together and live in a cabin in the mountains like a hermit.
For this roleplay, I am leaning towards the dragons living in a city with an average of 66,000 citizens. The city is located in Mountainous regions along the West Coast.

“What do you know about dragons?”
“They're big, scaly, four-legged creatures with wings who terrorized small villages until a virgin was offered up as a sacrifice.”
He grinned again. “I do miss the virgins.”
