Gullswoop watched Pebblepaw's reaction with some amusement. The apprentice need to build a bit more confidence in herself and Gullswoop hoped giving her some tasks alone would help build it. If he could show her he trusted her, then perhaps, she would come to trust herself more. The old tom shook his head at her words. "No need. I discussed it with her already. You just need to wait until the patrol is called and then you can leave with them." He paused and narrowed his eyes, giving her a very stern look. "Be careful. If any rogues appear to start a fight, you don't get involved and run straight back to camp, understand?" The clan couldn't risk losing the apprentice, especially with leaf-bare nearing and Gullswoop's age.
---
Eiderpaw stood up a little taller at Coonstripe's praise, even if it was a little back-handed. The apprentice readied herself as he went on to explain what the first move he would be teaching her was. She gave a small nod and watched as her mentor dipped under the water. The she-cat watched him move towards and was barely able to make out his paw stretching out towards her leg. In the next moment, she felt herself lose her balance as her one leg was pulled out from under her. Eiderpaw stumbled to one side, trying to catch herself but was unable to and fell with a small splash into the water. She blinked and quickly got back up to her paws. "So it makes enemies unbalanced and gives you the upper hand." She mumbled as she stood up.
---
Canarypaw let out a small yelp of surprise as Spiderpaw brought his front paws down onto her back. She hadn't noticed the move coming and fell to the ground upon the impact. The apprentice wasn't giving up though and lashed out her paws at his belly from where she laid on the ground, hoping to buy herself sometime to recover.
---
Lakestar paused at his question, seeming to think it over a moment before replying. "We'll start by re-enforcing the camp and the dens. Storms will likely be approaching soon and we need to make sure we have proper shelter from them." She told him with a small shrug. "We'll rely on the river for most of our prey. Unless it freezes over of course then we'll need to hunt primarily in the forest." It seemed like a decent plan but it was not original. Lakestar was merely using the same preparations she had seen her father use when he was leader. The she-cat fell silent for a moment before adding in a lower tone. "And our patrols will focus on the rogue border. The war may be over but I fear it might not be the last if Sunny and his followers get greedy."

[Aw Gullswoop is concerned, so cute!]
Pebblepaw rose to her paws, nervous to do this on her own, but also quite excited at the prospect of being trusted with something like this. Gullswoop's words of warning sent a small chill down her spine, not wanting to imagine what would happen if she got caught in a battle, she would be completely useless and helpless. He was right, running would be her only option. "I promise I will stay out of trouble Gullswoop." She offered him a quick smile took one last glance at the herbs, doing her best to memorize the scent of poppy seeds before quickly ducking out of the den, a small spring in her step.
"Observant, good." Coonstripe's voice didn't fluctuate as he nodded at his apprentice. "I want you to try it on me, knock me off balance, but remember I am heavier than you are, it will be harder to knock me off balance, but if you manage to successfully, it will be harder for me to regain my balance. See if you can think of a secondary attack to follow up with." Coonstripe flicked his ear to get the water out, sending droplets of water arching through the air.
Spiderpaw grinned as he managed to pin the she-cat, but was caught off guard by her follow up, his breath being forced out with a loud "Oof," as she pummeled his stomach if her claws had been unsheathed that would have hurt a lot. Doing his best to hold her down, he batted at her exposed underbelly with his back legs.

( Yeah cx though it's a bit more for the clan as a whole rather than personal concern)
Gullswoop nodded his head, satisfied with her promise to stay out of any fights that might occurred. He watched the apprentice head out of the den, clearly eager for the task he had trusted her with. The tom was glad to have such an eager apprentice and did truly believe Pebblepaw would make for a good medicine cat once she finished her training. The medicine cat rose to his paws and stepped over to his herb storage, beginning to sort it out for the day.
---
Eiderpaw listened and then nodded her head, giving a very concentrated look as she thought about the move and what to follow it up with. Seeming to decide on something, she took in a deep breath and dove under the water. She swiped out one paw, hooking it to one of his front paws, admittedly a bit clumsily, then gave a sharp tug. Trying to be swift rather than accurate, Eiderpaw used her back legs to suddenly push herself out of the water and jabbed her paw at his side, hoping it would be enough to through him off balance.
--
Canarypaw grinned as she managed to strike Spiderpaw. She nearly thought she might be able to get away but her plans were foiled as he held her down. As he batted at her belly, she squirmed underneath him, trying to get out of his grip. In an effort to free herself, she began to nip at his front paws as she struggled under the larger apprentice.

[Hahaha I still love it] [P.S. Really love this clan!]
Pebblepaw blinked her eyes a couple times, letting them adjust to the sudden sunlight, her pupils narrowing. Glancing around, she searched for the patrol she was supposed to join, not seeing anyone gathering quite yet, the small she-cat decided to take some time and quickly groom her pelt, wanting to look presentable for her first solo outing.
Coonstripe felt her paws hook his leg clumsily, giving a small tisk, only being thrown off slightly, but her nest attack sent him stumbling sideways a couple steps, surprised with the power of her attack. Managing to barely keep his head above water, the tom looked at her, eyebrows raised slightly. "Interesting..." was all he said, his voice very monotone. "I believe that is enough water fighting for one day, but next we will be working on fishing." Dragging himself out of the water, the large tom did his best to shake the water from his sopping wet pelt. "We have most likely scared all the fish farther down the stream. Come." He moved farther along, following the creek, until he believed themselves far enough away.
Spiderpaw's grip loosened as she began to nip at his paws, it was more of a shock than it was a pain but it still startled the tom. "Oi! That tickles!" His paw shifted off of her for a heartbeat, opening up an opportunity for Canarypaw.

(Aww thanks! I'm glad you do! ) Eiderpaw took a step back as she awaited his review of her attempted attack. However, he barely said anything which made the apprentice more nervous than when he would overly correct her failures. She didn't show her nervousness though and merely nodded as he went onto the next topic of their lesson. She padded quietly behind Coonstripe, wondering if he had meant interesting in either a negative or positive way. She let out a soft sigh and looked ahead as they moved farther up the creek to fish. Once they stopped, Eiderpaw peered into the water, looking for movement before she turned back to her mentor. "Do you think the river will freeze this leaf-bare?" She asked curiously. --- Canarypaw snickered at his words. She felt his paw shift off of her and she quickly used the opening to slip out from under him. She scrambled back up to her paws and laughed a little. "Well I hope no enemies decide to try and tickle you! Because it looks like they'd be able to get away pretty easy!" She purred teasingly as she bounced around him occasionally lashing him lightly with her tail.

Coonstripe flicked his tail, pushing the apprentice back from the creek, "You don't want to learn over the water, keep your reflection off of it." He wasn't much of a small talker, but he gave in, shrugging his shoulders slightly, "If it's a cold leaf-bare then yes, but even StarClan doesn't know what the next season holds for us, although from the rapid drop in temperature I can guess that it may be colder than usual this year. All the more reason to get as much food now in preparation for what is yet to come." The large tom leaned back, ensuring he wasn't casting a reflection, but his eyes were focused on the water, searching for any activity beneath the surface. "You will want to hook the fish with your paw and use your claws to get a better grip. You will want to kill it quickly because they tend to slip their way back into the water quickly."

[Sorry forgot about Spiderpaw]
"Thankfully it's not a common tactic, although we should start using it, I think it would work surprisingly well." Their sparring had been momentarily forgotten by the tom as he pondered the battle tactic making a mental note to use that with his mentor the next time he had a chance. "It's actually a really interesting idea..."

Wolfhowl nodded. "We can weave some of the thicker vines into the edges. And maybe some large leaves that we can find. At least they can help stop drafts. And we can start digging a small dip in the ground to place food. The cold will help keep it fresher for longer." He shifted slightly as Lakestar mentioned the rogues. He cast a curious glanced around camp before looking back at the young leader. "Lakestar, do you think we will have another war?" The older tom's worries echoed in the question. With leaf-bare approaching, they couldn't handle a war. They couldn't have cats be both dedicated to fighting and hunting and protecting. It would ruin them.
Pepperclaw shook his head and stood up. He walked over to where Canarypaw and Spiderpaw were talking. "Well done you two," he purred at them. "And while tickling is a good idea, I'm afraid it would be a little too hard to do in a fight. Not to mention it would gain you some very odd looks. When you get more experienced, you tend to be able to not react to those things."

Eiderpaw took a step back from the water at Coonstripe's instruction and mumbled a soft apology for her mistake. As he went on to answer her question, she gave a small nod. Part of her hoped the water wouldn't freeze over. Mainly because that meant it would be a particularly harsh leaf bare. She focused back on the task at had as he began to explain how to catch a fish. Her gaze swept over his posture then she proceeded to try and mimic it, leaning back while still looking into the water for movement of any kind. Soon she spotted a small fish within the water and raised her paw, a bit eager to try and catch it. However she stopped herself, realizing it would likely be smarter to watch ho Coonstripe did it first before going after a fish of her own.
---
Canarypaw tilted her head as Spiderpaw began to take her words a bit more seriously than she intended. "I guess.." She said with a small chuckle before her gaze flickered over to Pepperclaw as the warrior walked up to them. "Oh! Hi Pepperclaw." She greeted him cheerfully, beaming a little at the older cat's compliment. "I guess it would be a bit strange to use it in an actual battle." She agreed with a small nod.
---
Lakestar gave a curt nod at Wolfhowl's suggestions. As he asked about war, the young leader shifted, her normally calm gaze flickered with a hint of uncertainty. "I hope not. The clan has suffered enough from the last one." She responded, shaking her head as she thought back on the days under her father's leadership. His greed and ambition had lead the clan down a dangerous path. And StarClan chose me to help the clan recover from that. She reminded herself silently. "We won't be looking for anymore fights... However, if those rogues try to come after us or our territory, then we'll have no choice but to fight them. I merely hope that they focus on recovering and surviving this leaf-bare just as we are." Lakestar eyed the warrior, of all the cats to turn traitor because of Sunny and his influence, she was surprised Wolfhowl remained loyal to the clan, despite his history. It was respectable in her eyes. "Since you're here, I'd like you to lead a border patrol today. Pick out at least two other cats to go with you... Oh and take Pebblepaw with you as well. Gullswoop mentioned wanting her to become more familiar with the territory."

Wolfhowl nodded. Suddenly, he gave Lakestar a soft smile. "Let us both not worry too much," he replied. "Worrying will get us nowhere and just make us paranoid." He glanced over to the warriors' den seeing other beginning to move about. He stood up and turned his head back to the leader. "I'll take Almondfur and Foxfoot. Might as well take Canarypaw so the she can help with Pebblepaw as well." The grey tom gave her a nod before walking over to the den. He poked his head in the den called out to both Almondfur and Foxtrot. He might as well get them ready so they could all eat and move out.
(Btw, I was wondering if I could throw Wolfhowl in for the running of deputy? I'm usually very hesitant to join clans with a cat that holds power, especially if I don't know if they have any positions open for a reason. But I really like this clan! I like the plot and think it works really well! Plus, I'm probably going to be creating two more cats. XD)

Coonstripe noticed the fish gliding through the water as well and gestured to her with his head, "Why not give it a try?" His muscles tensed prepared to do his best to catch the fish in case his apprentice missed. his ear flicked subconsciously as he prepared, his paw raised to strike, his eyes focused on the water's surface.
Seeing his mentor approaching, Spiderpaw shook the dust from his pelt, "The fact that it would be unexpected would probably add to its successfulness, I still think it would be an interesting tactic to look into." The tom really didn't believe what he was trying to fight, but he was too proud to back down now, he was ready to stand for his idea, even if he knew it was a bad one.
Seeing Wolfhowl bound out of the leader's den, Pebblepaw's ears pricked. Trotting over to the warrior, the small she-cat raised her tail in welcome. "Gullswoop told me I was supposed to join your patrol, would you be okay with stopping by the Hollow Patch? I need to gather some poppyseeds and cobwebs." The apprentice's mottled pelt tingled with excitement at the thought of her first patrol, her face glowing with a bright smile.

Woldfhowl greeted Pebblepaw with a flick of his tail as the medicine cat apprentice bounded over. "Hello, Pebblepaw. Yes, that is fine. I'm going to bring Canarypaw to help you as well. And either Almondfur or Foxfoot can help you too if you need more." He gave the apprentice a soft smile before heading over to the prey pile. He grabbed a mouse and offered it to the apprentice. "Go ahead and eat. Actually, can you let Canarypaw know she should eat too? That way we can get moving soon." The tom cat grabbed a small fish from the pile. He began to slowly eat, decided to take a little bit of time to enjoy the prey before leaf-bare fully set in.
Pepperclaw swiped his tail over his apprentice's ears with a good natured laugh. "I guess so. Maybe we can try it next time we have battle practice. For now, I want to focus on your hunting. We are going to work on fishing and swimming today. Might as well start getting you ready to swim with your long fur." Pepperclaw was going to keep a sharp eye on his apprentice as he swam. Part of him was worried about how his long fur might keep him from naturally floating.

Pebblepaw grabbed the mouse in her jaws, doing her best to speak around the creature in her mouth, "Thank you Wolfhowl, I'll go grab her now." The small she-cat had already eaten, but she was going to see if Canarypaw wanted the mouse. Offering the warrior a quick bright smile, the dappled she-cat bounded towards the other apprentice. "Canarypaw Wolfhowl said you're going to be joining us on a patrol, he also wanted you to eat." She dropped the mouse at the other she-cat's paws, her mind flying a million miles a second as she tried to calm her nerves.
Seeing the small apprentice run over and pull Canaraypaw away, Spiderpaw stood up and started following his mentor, "See you later Canarypaw!" Turning his attention back to his mentor, Spiderpaw couldn't help but feel a knot forming in the pit of his stomach, swimming had never been something he looked forward to doing, fishing he was okay with, but he was scared of the idea of drowning, especially with his thick fur. He did his best to conceal his emotions, keeping his bright smile as he walked beside his mentor, "Where are we going today?"

Lionpaw|Camp|Open Lionpaw bounded out of the apprintence den. He was excited to start his training today, and he had done a really good job at his chores yesterday , cleaning out the ticks off of elders without even complaining. He had gotten an earful about how he chatted too much for an apprentice, but he didn’t let those cranky old elders get him down. His tail lashed impatiently, his eyes looking for his mentor. Foxfoot|Camp|Open Foxfoot came into the camp, depositng her catch. It wasn’t that much, just a bird and a mouse, and her fur grew hot in embarrassment. She was aware it wasn’t much , but hopefully it fed a few cats. She quickly retreated to a corner of camp, and sat down. She began grooming herself.

Pepperclaw smiled down at his apprentice. He loved training him. And even though he could see the small hints of nerves in the corner of the young tom's eyes, he knew that with practice and patience, it would go away. "We will head to Fisher's Pond. It's easiest to learn to swim. We can work on your fishing first before we start swimming." Pepperclaw ducked his head as they left camp through the entrance. He waited a heartbeat before continuing to speak. "I talked to Wolfhowl about this. Since you both have longer fur, I wanted to know how he fared with swimming. He gave me a few good tips and an idea to try out."
Wolfhowl lifted his head as Foxtrot entered the camp. Ah, no wondered she wasn't in the den, he thought as the younger she-cat placed the prey down. He gave a nod of greeting to her. "Good catch." He deep voice almost purred out. "Maybe we can catch some more later. You are going on a patrol with me, Almondfur, Canarypaw, and Pebblepaw near the rogue border. Lakestar wants us to make sure that it is secured." He went to take another bit of the fish before pausing. With a small glance up, Wolfhowl offered the last half of the small fish to Foxtrot. He would be fine for the remainder of the day.

Foxfoot looked up in surprise as the tom complimented her "Th-thanks" She stuttered out. "Okay" She stated, listening to the tom's orders. She was glad that they were doing something at to keep the rouges at bay, although she hoped it didn't come to another nasty battle like it had before. She blinked as Wolfheart offered her the last of the fish, and then quickly gulped it down and stood, ready to go .

Spiderpaw let out a breath of relief as his mentor said they would be working on fishing first, he was more than happy to postpone swimming as long as possible. As Pepperclaw mentioned Wolfhowl helping Spiderpaw's large ears pricked, "What kinda things did he say?" The young apprentice's attention was caught as he was curious to hear what the older warrior had as ideas for him.

Pepperclaw jumped over a fallen branch before replying. "One of the things he mentioned we could try was either licking the top of your fur till it was slightly damp or wet it lightly. He had seen some otters do something similar so they could float. He's never done it but figured we could try." It was an odd idea, that was for sure. He had never heard of a cat doing something like that. Still, it might be worth it to try. "Another idea he suggested was trying to thin your fur. Get rid of any extra shedding so that your fur might be a bit lighter."
(Never used one of the rp profiles so this will be interesting. Also, the thing about otters is partially true. They do try air in their fur.)

[Pepperclaw looks Cool! And That's so crazy! I guess you learn something new each day! I've also heard that some animals rub fish oil on themselves and it makes their fur semi water repellent.]
Spiderpaw lept up on top of the branch and then jumped off, his attention fixed on his mentor as he spoke. The tall tom tiled his head as he thought about Pepperclaw's ideas, "I'd be willing to try all of them," He paused for a moment, glancing down at his beautiful coat, "As long as they don't mess up my fur too much, I like the way it looks too much to do any permanent damage."

Pepperclaw let out a chuckle. "We won't ruin your coat. If we have to thin it, you just might feel the breeze a little bit more." Pepperclaw padded out from the bushes and paused. "Ah, we are here." Pepperclaw took a scent of the air. Everything seemed clean and fresh. There didn't seem to be a hint of rain so the fish would be out currently. Padding to the edge of the pool, Pepperclaw took a drink softly. He saw out of the corner of his eyes fish darting around. It would be a good day to hunt.

Spiderpaw was visibly much more at ease by his mentor's reassuring words, glad to hear his appearances, which he prided himself on so strongly, wouldn't be changed. He watched his mentor confidently move towards the water and followed, with a bit more hesitation. He leaned over the water slightly, his eyes watching the glimmering shapes gliding through the water, his head tilted with concentration.
