Oakstar nods in approval, feeling pride for the young apprentice. "You're teaching her well, Lightstep," she affirms, stepping around logs in the thick forest as they head for the marsh. Her nose crinkles at the prospect of meeting an Aspenclan patrol; it'd take half a moon to wash kittypet stench from her fur. She raises her head to the sky, seeing the ducks Lightstep had pointed out. "More prey for us, if they choose to return to the river."

Badgerstar blinked as Silverflight came up to him. "Ah, hello there Silverflight." He mewed his voice calm. "What brings you to the forest? Hunting I presume?"

Silverlight nodded, "Yes. I thought it'd be a good opportunity to hunt before the apprentices disturbed the peace with their antics," she commented in slight amusement. "As for you?" She asked the leader in response.

"Just out for a walk." Badgerstar explained flicking the tip of his tail. "I like to go out on walks to think and plan my next move."

Featherpaw's chest filled with joy that her leader indirectly praised her. The apprentice stood a little taller at that. She looked up at the sky as well and watched the ducks a moment. "it'd be nice if they landed in our territory," she agreed. "It'd be a shame if Aspenclan or Brookclan got to hunt duck and we were denied the opportunity."

Silverlight listened thoughtfully. "I'm sure it helps. Are you thinking of any particular moves?" She asked, not wanting to push him by suggesting anything, although Brookclan's vast strip of grassland beyond the river was tempting. He'll probably want to push Moonclan's borders on the marsh though. It is a valuable piece of land, though it'll be a hard win.

Crowpaw rolled his eyes again and began to eat a little faster. "What do you even want to play?" He took another bite of his mouse and chewed.

Lightstep shook his head. "When have we ever hunted ducks? I saw a rogue trying to hunt a goose once - before I had to drive him out of our territory - and the goose began pecking at him. After it was over he was all bloody and scared. He wouldn't leave so i had to escort him off our premises." Lightstep noticed a frog hopping across the river. "Not that ducks are geese, but I was just sorta explaining that ducks might not be the best for hunting. I was, really." The thing Lightstep did almost as much as naming stuff was explaining stuff. He tried to explain himself even when he was wrong, then you'd have to explain yourself to show why he was wrong in the first place. It was a real annoying habit. Luckily Lightstep was a moonclan cat, so when he was told to stop, he would stop. Well maybe not if it was a rogue, but he'd respect his pureblooded equals.

"Nothing right now." Badgerstar mewed flicking his tail. "I might lead a patrol later to scout out some possible areas."

Silverlight's whiskers twitched slightly. "Of course, Badgerstar." After a moment of silence, she asked, "I was thinking about leading a patrol along the Brookclan border later. Would that be alright?" She started padding slowly, coxing him into a walk with her. She planned to take him in the direction of that border.

Badgerstar perked up at her request. "That would be fine." He said as he starts walking with her.

Silverlight smiled, "I'll be sure to chose the right cats then." She lead him slowly at first, gradually picking up the pace until they had been eased into a brisk -but not hurried- walk. She slowed down as the forest began to open up and the river was in front of them. She stood at the edge, Brookclan scent drifting over the river on the breeze, the clear grasslands ahead of them, yet out of their paws. She looked at the sky, it hadn't taken very long. "I should head back to retrieve my catches. I hope this walk has cleared your mind on some things," Silverlight mewed to him before starting to head away.

"Hm," says Oakstar, considering Lightstep's story. "It was wise of you to escort him off and not kill him there," she decides. "But ducks are easier to control than geese, and it's much better to hunt them than let Brookclan have them, those kittypets are fed enough as it is." She snorts at the thought, and bites back another scalding comment towards them; it is a leaders job to influence peace between the clans, after all. But a small retort now and then won't hurt. Smiling softly in amusement at Lightstep's rush to explain himself, she sits down and licks her paw, drawing it over her ears. "We've reached the border. Featherpaw," she says, turning and boring her sharp green eyes into those of the small apprentices. "Can you tell me where the best place to mark the territory here is?"

Featherpaw nodded her agreement, "Plus, I'd like to actually taste duck once in a while. I hear it's amazing." She looked back to Oakstar. "Hmm, the bushes and trees along the riverbank are best to mark so the scent travels over the river. If we just scented the dirt and grass itself, then the scent is less likely to stay," she replied thoughtfully. "Lightstep is teaching me well, I think. I'm lucky to have him as my mentor," she added happily about the quirky tom.

Crowpaw rolled his eyes again and began to eat a little faster. "What do you even want to play?" He took another bite of his mouse and chewed. Birdpaw shrugged, "We'll figure it out when we're out there. -And I bet I can beat you to the Moonclan border!" She challenged him playfully.

"It has, thank you." Badgerstar mewed before looking back at Brookclan's territory. They had the numbers but he wanted to strike at the right time.

Silverlight smiled and looked back, "Any time, Badgerstar." She padded away, heading to gather up her kills in order to bring them back to camp in the morning sunlight.

Crowpaw took his final bite of mouse and nodded. "Okay. Maybe we can find some of those seed balls and throw them at the patrolling cats." He offered as he got up and began a lackadaisical saunter out of camp. He would atleast give Birdpaw a chance at beating him.

Lightstep nodded. "The river provides a massive tactical advantage if done right, so we like to make use of it."

Apollo and Athena ran through two-leg place as fast as the heavily burdened she-cat could manage. Her stomach hung down low and her bosom swelled with milk. She was to give birth any day now, but the lack of available food made her uncertain of the outcome of the young. A third cat, who Apollo stole a mouse from, was chasing the couple. They soon reached a forest and a hiss sounded from the loner. "Didn't know warriors were such cowards." He mocked. Athena would have questioned the loner left and she began eating the food Apollo had provided. They walked until the sun overhead began to leave in its infinite circle, chasing the moon."This seems safe enough to rest for now." Apollo mused, laying down on the soft dirt. They slept through the night somewhat peacefully. (They're in brookclan territory right now.)

Frostprint nodded, watching her dawn-patrol warriors head to their dens or the prey pile to rest after they'd finished their lengthy conversation. The she-cat noticed Sunpaw listening in and padded over to the little tom. "You know, actually patrolling is more fun than eavesdropping. Why don't you go find Brackenblaze and patrol the unclaimed territory?" She instructed the apprentice who sheepishly ran off to the warrior's den in search of the warrior.

Birdpaw purred in amusement, "That'd be fun, but I don't think anycat is patrolling until sunhigh." When Crowpaw got up, she she-cat eagerly sprinted out of camp with a bounce in her step. She was definitely going to beat her brother.

After seeing the apprentice went to the warrior's den, Frostprint padded to the leader's den. "Clearstar?" She called in, "May I speak to you about the Dawn Patrol?" Her whiskers twitched as she waited for her leader to respond. ( UnsightlyHeretic831 )

"Of course," Cleastar responded. "Is there something wrong, or are all the warriors waking up too late to volunteer for the Dawn Patrol?" I just hope none of my warriors are waking up near or at sunhigh.

Frostprint padded into Clearstar's den and sat across from the leader. "Actually, there is something worth noting. Our stretch of forest beyond the river, the part that borders Moonclan, is being heavily marked by the other clan. It may just be normal clan hostilities, or they may be planning an attack," she informed. That stretch of land had always been a hot spot between the two clans. A speculation was that Moonclan might think Brookclan wouldn't be able to defend it since the river has to be crossed to get to it. It was also believed that Moonclan thought the borders should follow the river -and therefore would make that patch of forest 'rightfully' Moonclan's. Neither speculations were confirmed nor disproved. I wish the news was just lazy warriors. Starclan, please don't let a fight break out! Brookclan could definitely hold their own in defending the territory, but fighting meant bloodshed and she couldn't help but worry about her clanmates getting injured or... well, fatalities could happen on either side, but she'd prefer not to think about that.

"Hmm, maybe we could send a patrol there. We can't let it go, because we need it more than Moonclan does, so we must let them know. We will have to do it quick, because, like you said, Moonclan might declare war on that clearing." Clearstar responded thoughtfully. Maybe, for one moon, we could let Moonclan have it, and the next moon, it's ours.

Frostprint nodded, "I completely agree. Would you have me send out patrols more frequently along the border there? We could send less cats more frequently so we aren't draining our warriors," she suggested. Moonclan will realize we aren't going to take this lightly and surely they'll back off.(I like how Clearstar's all like 'can't we just share?' in his thinking and then Frostprint's thinking 'yeah, we'll destroy them if they lay a paw on our territory' it's great. idk, I might have read ur post wrong though, lol )
