Quill smiled deviously "I know that feeling. I always wanted to up my siblings... so I guess I can make an exception and help out. But you can't let anyone know I helped." she winked at the kid and looked around theatrically before leaning closer to her "We can start with planning something." Quill figured she could help out as well as keeping Mitzi from doing anything too crazy or getting into trouble. Without some sort of supervision she was afraid that Nolan might end up with a pretty harsh prank being played on him. This was something she loved about kids, but at the same time she knew she should be the adult in this situation and keep Mitzi from hurting him or something.

(So instead of writing for the zoo today, I ended up going to it. I wasn’t aware of that either but I basically spent all day at the zoo today)

Kai Walters gentoo penguin
”Now’s really not the-“ Kai paused in the middle of his sentence as he tried to pry the delicate black and white cat from the gate. ”Time!” It was at that moment that the cat loosened his grip with the last final tug from Kai and both went flying backwards, landing on the ground. Kai let out a groan, rubbing his lower back as he sat up a little straighter, soft brown eyes staring down at the cat that had curled up oh so innocently in his lap. ”Yeah, you’re just an innocent little cat, aren’t you, Ty?” He questioned, brow raised.
The cat - Ty - looked up at him, light green eyes wide and innocent as he lightly tipped his head to the side, a small mreow escaping him. Yeah. Totally and perfectly innocent.
Kai rolled his eyes and scooped Ty up in his arms as he got up to his feet. Though it hadn’t been his intention to chase his brother all around the zoo today, that had been what he had done anyways. Honestly sometimes Kai thought Ty enjoyed tormenting Kai. There was no other possible explanation for his brother’s behavior beyond absolute and utter torment placed upon Kai.
Okay so maybe he was being a bit dramatic right now and he could probably tone it down a little as well. After all, he wasn’t Norman, being dramatic wasn’t his job. No, apparently his job was Ty’s official cat sitter.
Which reminded him...
Kai looked back down to the cat in his arms, glaring down at him. ”Why do you always insist on trying to climb into the big cat habitats? Is this the equivalent of little dog syndrome, but with cats?” Kai questioned, looking at him for a moment as if the black and white cat would speak up and either confirm or deny his statement. Ty never said anything, which Kai suspected since right now he was still a cat, though a nod would’ve been nice.
”You can’t go into those habitats, Ty. If they weren’t like us, they’d probably eat you alive,” he lectured his brother as he walked through the zoo. ”Plus no one goes to the zoo to look at a house cat that thinks he’s a lion, they come to see actual lions-“ that did seem to get some sort of reaction from Ty as he snarled and hissed over at Kai, ears flattened against his head.
Kai rolled his eyes again, lifting Ty up enough to make eye contact with the unhappy cat. ”Don’t hiss at me, Ty, you’re lucky it’s me that always gets you and not someone else,” he continued his lecture. ”Not everyone would take kindly to finding you in their habitat.”
Honestly, you’d think he’d learn. It wasn’t as if Kai thought that anyone in this zoo was nasty or would actually hurt his brother, but he was certain it got annoying to find some cat sneaking into your habitat when he didn’t belong there. It was a problem, and Ty was just lucky that no one had snapped at him yet. Though that might just be because it had always been Kai to go grab him before his brother could cause anymore trouble than he was worth.
Kai sighed, looking down at Ty for a little longer. The cat refused to look at him, instead he let out another low growl and curled back up in Kai’s arms. Well, at least Ty wasn’t fighting him on this. Instead he was just being...difficult about it. ”I’m sorry Ty, maybe once we get you back to the right habitant, we can figure out ways to make it easier on you, okay?” Kai suggested as he looked down at Ty, offering his brother a smile.
Ty let out a small meow. It wasn’t much, but it wasn’t an angry growl or hiss anymore. This was good, they were making progress. Kai would take it. ”Great, come on then, we can’t stay in the Kitty Corner for too long, people might start thinking it’s weird that I’m talking to a cat,” Kai explained as he began to make his way out of the Kitty Corner and further into the zoo.

Lacey Cortez Humboldt Penguin shifter
Lacey had always been an early riser and the small penguin shifter was going on her morning job around the zoo. This was easily her favorite time of the day. It was quiet and I disturbed. Not many people were out and about yet and she didn't risk getting weird looks like she would if she decided to jog while the zoo was open for business.
She'd done that before and had promptly regretted it when she stumbled out of the way of a child that was rushing to see the bear exhibit and right into the path of his overheated and clearly exhausted father. Now her only chances to jog were late at night and early in the morning and morning seemed to be her time.
She didn't mind staying up late and actually found it to be fun. No, it was just that jogging in the morning was so much more peaceful. Not for the first time, the young woman was wishing that she had been some kind of feline or canine shifter. One where she could really stretch her legs and sprint. But instead she could only go as fast and far as her two legs would take her. Her penguin form certainly wasn't any help when it came to jogging.
As she rounded another corner, she saw a figure leaving the Kitty Corner and she slowed herself slightly so she had been only at a walk when she reached the figure, who she was now able to identify as Kai. Though they weren't best friends and constantly talking, she knew him as another penguin shifter. She could only assume that the cat in his arms was a shifter and not some random stray that he'd decided to take under his wing.
"Hey, Kai," she said, taking a moment to pause and catch her breath. She grabbed her water bottle - that had luckily been small enough to stick in the large pockets of her shorts - and took a few drinks. "What are you up to?"
"And who's the little friend of yours?" she asked, nodding to the cat in his arms. While it could very well be a stray, she'd gotten into the habit of assuming every animal she saw was a shifter. It made sense...
Although it had resulted in some pretty embarrassing experiences. There was one time that a dog had found its way into the zoo. Assuming it was a shifter, Lacey had sat down and began to hold a conversation with it and telling it that it should shift back so they could do something human together.
Then Kendra Steel had come by and told her it was a real dog. The dog had then growled at the penguin girl and left.
She was lucky that Kendra had been there to save her from embarrassing herself even worse than she had, but Lacey was always a little more careful now.
Though she assumed all animals in the zoo were shifters, she kept in mind that they could be real animals.
