Goattuft's whiskers twitched in amusement and he gave them a glance over. The two were coated in snow! "Now I'm no Quietsong but you two would get sick if coated in that much snow for too long. I think Willowdapple would be the one who decides on the patrols but I could use your help here." He offered, using his tail to keep his paws somewhat warm.

Juniperpaw's face fell as she realized she would be stuck in camp. She knew it was probably best for her given the fact that she was having a hard time walking around the clearing. But she wanted to explore the snow covered territory around her. "Okay Goattuft," She answered. "But can I ask Willowdapple first to see if I can go on Patrol? Branchpaw can help you!" She said, hopefully.
Branchpaw flicked his tail and sniffed indignantly at his sister only to sneeze afterwards, causing her to laugh. Sometimes he would swear that the only time he looked at her was to glare at her, as he was doing now. "We can both stay and help you," He said, emphasizing the fact that he meant for Juniperpaw to stay. "We can explore later," He meowed, more to his sister that anything else. He watched as Juniperpaw's tail dropped, but she nodded her agreement. Following along with what Branchpaw decided as she normally did.

Goodnight! )
Goattuft let out a chuckle at the sneeze and his whiskers twitched in amusement. "Don't look so glum! We can even make a game out of it!" he suggested, shifting his numb shoulder. "The snow is even high enough to tunnel under in some areas."

He swished his tail behind him and blinked his yellow eyes curiously at his leader.

“Bring whoever you’d like. I’ll come as well,” The gray tom replied, flicking his eyes across the camp. “Now that the conditions aren’t too hazardous, it might do good for the initiates to take one or two of them with us.”

Juniperpaw perked up at the thought of making snow tunnels. "Oh! Can we make tunnels to each den? Then we could walk around without getting wet!" She said, her eyes once again alight with excitement. It didn't take much to get her excited about something. The problem was keeping her attention long enough on a task. She would always get bored easy and wander off to find something else to do. The only time she ever felt truly happy was when she was exploring. There was always something new to discover when roaming the territory and now that it was covered in snow, she couldn't begin to think of the possibilities. But she would stay with Branchpaw if he wanted her to. Though she couldn't help but glance with longing at the warriors as they talked with their leader, figuring out who would go on patrol.
Branchpaw huffed at the thought of plowing through the snow to make tunnels. Juniperpaw might be happy about it, but all he wanted to do was curl up in the initiates' den and go to sleep. He felt a shiver course through his body, and he shook himself. He would need to start moving again to get himself warm, but starclan forbid that he started jumping around like his sister. He always thought that she looked mouse-brained when she did that. So instead he sat and curled his tail around him. Fluffing it up the best he could. He tried to hide his shivers as he sat and waited for Goattuft to tell them what he had in mind. But his quaking was obvious.

Icespark finally woke beside Cavernpaw, she looked over the initiate for a moment, seeing he was awake before she slowly stood up, stretching out her legs, waking up and getting the stiffness out of them. She looked over at Sootpelt, Stormstar and her father and carefully made her way towards them, pressing against her father's side. "What do you need me to do?"

"I don't think that enough snow is on the ground to start tunnels for all of the dens. We could always do one by your den though." Goattuft suggested with a twitch of his whiskers, amused at the polar opposite siblings.
Seeing that Icespark woke up, Cavernpaw twitched his whiskers and got up as well. Letting a brief shiver course through him, the tom padded to the entrance only to hear Goattuft's words. "I can help too!"

Juniperpaw nodded and tried to run over to the initiates' den, but it was more like hopping. Each leap she made she ended up burying herself to her neck in snow, but that didn't keep her from her goal. "Come on, Branchpaw," She yelled. "Let's get started!"
Branchpaw rose to his paws and shot a disbelieving look at Goattuft because of his sister's antics. He was about to follow her when he heard Cavernpaw say that he wanted to help. He glanced at the older initiate and he signed. 'At least Juniperpaw can talk to him instead of meowing my ear off,' He thought to himself. He sniffed, only to sneeze again and he shook himself, blinking his eyes to clear them as they had started to water. He plunged through the snow, using Juniperpaw's holes she created as a pathway. That way he only had to muscle through just a bit of the drift. He would never understand how something so light and seemingly innocent could cause such a problem. But snow was definitely the worst. Give him a sunny, clear day anytime.

Cavernpaw's ears lowered slightly at the sigh he was given by Branchpaw and shook his head to clear the sadness that started to creep up on him. "Thank you Cavernpaw. That means I can go see Quietsong." He heard the warrior say and turned his head in confusion. Goattuft was hurt? Before he could ask, the warrior disappeared into the den and he sighed. "Wait for me!" He called out, finally bounding after the duo.

Juniperpaw was pushing the snow with her paws away from the entrance to the den when she felt someone press against her for a brief moment. She turned to see that Branchpaw had joined her and was now digging up the entrance beside her. She looked at Cavernpaw who came running up behind Branchpaw and she smiled at him. "Hello Cavernpaw!" She greeted, "You're awake! I was wondering how long you would sleep," she mewed to him. "Are you going to help us?" She asked, not having heard the conversation before.
Branchpaw glanced back at Cavernpaw as Juniperpaw spoke and he shift over slightly so that the other initiate could help them dig out the entrance. He knew that they needed to make an opening so that they could begin the tunnel, he just hoped that the snow was hard enough to be able to pack into walls.

"Don't worry Juniperpaw! The hero is here and ready to help!" Cavernpaw chirped before moving next to Branchpaw, digging eagerly into the snow. "Aren't you guys excited? We can make our own tunnels! With that we can make then go anywhere we want and they won't be seen!" Cavernpaw gushed, finally breaking through into their den. With a startled squeak, the tom fell into the den and laughed, now trying to push the snow inside out.

Branchpaw rolled his eyes at Cavernpaw. "Wait, before you do that!" He exclaimed. "We should set up an assembly line. That way we don't just rebury what we just dug up," he explained as he jumped down to stand beside Cavernpaw. "I can go in, since I'm the smallest and dig out all of the snow, then Juniperpaw can push the snow out to you and you can pack it into a wall around us. It's the safest way," He reasoned.

Cavernpaw stared at Branchpaw blankly for a second and laughed, nodding his head as he started to climb clumsily back up. "Yeah okay. Did want it all around us like the den or?" He asked, his tail swishing happily behind him. He couldn't wait to get this done!

Branchpaw nodded, as he flicked his tail for Juniperpaw to follow him down. "That would probably be best. That way we have a bit of room to lay outside the den. Plus, we won't have to worry about the snow melting into our nests." He said as he turned to start moving the snow out of the den and pushing it towards Juniperpaw. "Just slide it the best you can over to Cavernpaw," he told he absently, as he once again started to get snow out.
Juniperpaw, who -had followed her brother's instructions and jumped down beside him- looked up at Cavernpaw with a humorous gleam in her eyes. Her brother may be quiet, but put him to a task and he became the loudest of them all. He was so bossy. She was sure that one day he might even try to push Stormstar around. Boy, did she want to be there to see that! She took the pile of snow that her brother gave her and she nudged it over to where Cavernpaw was standing. "Sorry," she whispered to him. "He kind of gets demanding when he sets his mind to a task. I feel sorry for his mentor!" She said around a giggle.

Cavernpaw gave Juniperpaw an amused twitch of his whiskers, a small chuckle escaping him as he started to scrape all the snow she pushed towards him. "Don't worry. We'll just have to get him to lighten up somehow." he told her with a wink, glancing over at her brother with a gleam in his eyes that spelled trouble. Turning to follow instructions for now, the large apprentice used his flank to pack the snow into the walls, slowly but surely building them their cave.

Branchpaw felt a shiver run through him as he worked. His paws and muzzle were numb from the snow. He would be glad when they got done with this. Then he would probably go straight to his nest. He figured that it was soaked. But maybe once they cleared it out, they three of them could curl up together and sleep. He was really looking forward to that.
Juniperpaw saw the gleam in Cavernpaw's eyes and glanced at her brother. Branchpaw liked playing pranks almost as much Cavernpaw did. But when he wasn't in the mood, she knew he could respond badly. She just hoped that Branchpaw would take it in stride and play back, because she didn't know if she could be the mediator. In the meantime, she figured she'd fill the silence as they worked. "Do you like snow, Cavernpaw?" She asked the older tom.

"I dunno yet to be honest. This is the first time I've seen snow and there's so much of it!" Cavernpaw admitted with a laugh. "I know I should have seen snow before as a kit but my mother kept me in the nursery till I became an initiate. She was pretty shaken up from the battle that happened moons ago. All of the older warriors look that way too. I wonder what happened to have it that way. Do you have any idea?" He asked them, pausing for a moment to shake the caked snow off of his pelt.

Juniperpaw shook her head. "Our mother wasn't part of the tribe. She was a loner. She left us as soon as we were weaned, she said that we didn't need her anymore. I've heard of the battle, but that's all. But Branchpaw may know more, he's always listening to the warriors' stories."
Branchpaw heard his name, and he turned his head to look at his two companions. He didn't know what they were talking about, but by the looks on their faces, he could guess that it was serious.

"Branchpaw. You've heard of how the tribe was under attack by our own, right?" Cavernpaw asked the tom, not bothering to glance over to him. He was biting his tongue in concentration, balancing precariously on his hind paws, trying to patch snow onto the roof to create a tunnel. It wasn't going so well half the time but the tom kept trying, glancing over when he didn't hear an answer occasionally.

Branchpaw snorted at Cavernpaw's question as he finished digging out the snow in their den. "Of course Mouse-brain, everyone's heard about it," He replied. "Even the kits play games pretending to be our warriors who fought the cats off. Why?" He asked, shoving the final pile towards Juniperpaw and straightening to watch as Cavernpaw tried to make the roof.

Cavernpaw snorted at the grumpy reply and patched the roof, falling onto his side with a sigh, exhausted. "Because I want to know why! My mother told me that my uncle was on their side! She said her own brother turned on her and that my father protected her. I want to know why because my parents died without knowing why it happened the way it did."

Branchpaw glanced at his sister after Cavernpaw finished and he found her glaring at him, angry with his treatment of the older initiate. It was true that the story held no meaning to him and his sister since they didn't really have any relation to the tribe. But Cavernpaw was born here, so it meant everything to him and Branchpaw treating the history in a nonchalant way was unkind not only to their friend, but also to the tribe that took them in when they had no where else to go. Especially after what happened the last time they did that. So, Branchpaw sighed and padded up to the tom. He bent down and licked his ears, trying to comfort the older cat. "I'm sorry but I don't know why either, Cavernpaw. No one does. But we're all here now and we're all a strong tribe. We survived a blizzard!" He mewed to his friend. "The past doesn't matter. What matters is what we all do now for each other, for our tribe."

Cavernpaw sighed as the apprentice licked his ears in apology and rolled onto his paws, pressing his nose briefly to Branchpaw's ear before sitting down. "Its okay.. Its just I thought because you were so clever and that you listen to the warriors' tales all the time that you might know.." he explained, giving them a small smile. "You're right though, we're all that we have left now. We have to stick together because we're a tribe. Our ancestors would be proud Branchpaw, Juniperpaw. You two really are Tribe cats, even if you weren't born with us."

Branchpaw flicked his tail over Cavernpaw's ears and he stepped away. "Thanks," he meowed to him. "Now, do you want to help me clear out the moss from the den? They are soaked!"
Juniperpaw watched the exchange and she felt proud of her brother for they way he was acting with Cavernpaw. It was usually only her that saw his talkative, caring side. So she was happy that he and Cavernpaw we're getting along. But she also felt guilty. She knew she wasn't a tribe cat, not really. She felt no loyalty to the tribe and she honestly wanted to leave as soon as she finished her training. But Branchpaw loved it here. To him, this was home. She couldn't leave him, she wouldn't leave him. He was what made this place home and if it weren't for him, she didn't know where she would go. All she knew was that it wouldn't be here.
