I already posted my thoughts from when the book first came out and my feelings still remain the same, so I'll just repost it here.
It was just as I was expecting: I liked the SE just fine, and there were several moments where it had me laughing. What can I say, I love my snark. As for the characters, I've always been neutral on Crowfeather, Nightcloud, and Heathertail, so this book helped alot with how I feel about them now. I actually like them now. Especially in the case of Nightcloud, given how she's mostly seen in a negative light, so it was nice to see her positively as far as post-OotS is confirmed (not counting minor appearances in AVoS, like agreeing with Leafpool or helping RiverClan). I also thought it was interesting how at least part of After Sunset: We Need to Talk is now connected with the books in terms of Breezepelt having littermates. It makes me wonder what would've happened if his two siblings had lived.
I also loved seeing Crowfeather's relationship with Ashfoot in this book, and how it's finally confirmed within the books themselves that Deadfoot is his father. The apprentices were also really cute, especially Featherpaw. I also like how this book also addressed whether Crowfeather and Leafpool still loved each other or not, and the conversations Crowfeather had with Lionblaze and Jayfeather were also nice. I also liked how Crowfeather mended his relationship with his WindClan family and how the book also mentions Crowfeather caring for Breezekit, and I thought the BreezexHeather scenes were cute.
So yeah, I enjoyed this book. If I ignore everything in OotS, that is.
I'm sorry, but it just felt like CT was trying way too hard to have the readers forgive Breezepelt. Especially with this line here:
And that's another thing. Maybe it's because I read too quickly since there's another book I've been wanting to read that also came out the same day, but I just felt like Crowfeather and Breezepelt mending their relationship was done a little too rushed. I don't know, maybe it's just me.
Like I said, I also feel like the only way I can like this book is if I just ignore OotS at least as far as Breezepelt is concerned, as well as Crowfeather's character in AVoS, because it seems like they're both completely different cats in CT. Breezepelt was even mentioned to be looking smug when Dovewing saw him in Dovewing's Silence. Again, maybe it's just me.
Also, Onestar is somehow an even bigger moron now. An entertaining moron, but still a moron nonetheless.
Another thing that disappointed me were the stoats. Talk about wasted potential. I was expecting a few cats to die, but I can't say I'm all too surprised, either.
And just for fun, I made a list for what I got right; some I predicted privately, while others are on my CT joke thread.
Prologue taking place during TNP? โ
Cats getting angry at Breezepelt for his betrayal? โ
Breezepelt having littermates? โ
Nightcloud and Crowfeather no longer being mates? โ
Harespring being chosen as deputy to help settle the tension between WindClan and the former trainees and Crowfeather initially not approving of Onestar's choice? โ
Onestar confronting Crowfeather over his family issues? โ
Crowfeather, Nightcloud, and Breezepelt making amends? โ
Crowfeather not being trusted at first? โ
The "unusual threat" being an animal? โ
Crowfeather and Featherpaw moments? โ
Crowfeather making amends with his ThunderClan family? โ
Crowfeather, Nightcloud, and Breezepelt being outside of WindClan for part of the book? โ
The manga featuring Crowfeather becoming deputy? โ
I've come to the conclusion that I'm at least partially psychic.
But seriously, the book was just alright overall. Not my favorite, but definitely nowhere near as bad as it could've been.

And a breeze is a type of wind. . . . Hope and excitement warred with disbelief inside Crowfeather, swelling just as the dawn light grew in the sky above the moor. What if the wind in Kestrelflightโs vision didnโt mean the whole of WindClan, but just referred to Breezepelt? A breeze is a soft, weak wind, for sure, but . . . what if Breezepelt is to play a role in saving us?
Could there be a better redemption?
