IntroductionYou shivered as you were beginning to slow down, the snowstorm that had hit was more gruesome then you had ever expected. Your muscles were growing weak and you felt as if your body would cave in at any moment. It had been many nights to travel to where you were and you had never expected to be greeted with such a harsh environment. All the stories were true, the stories of a harsh and unforgiving land. Your eyes squinted against the wind and it took every ounce of your being to not collapse. You saw something emerge from the storm, a small dark shadow against the blinding white. The shadow grew and melted into more shapes until you were met with a large wolf. His eyes bore into you and snowflakes littered his black fur like stars in the night sky. You felt power radiating from him as he stood before you. Your gaze looked at the wolves around him, was this them? The pack of the north? You had always heard the whispers but they had always been rumors. No wolves could survive as a pack in such an unforgiving land. The wolf let out a deep snarl and stepped out of his ranks to stand face to face with you. When he spoke it was booming and yet it ripped through the sound of the storm as if he himself was a part of it. "You are on my land." Everything about him screamed that he was the alpha and the other wolves eyed you with mixed emotions of rage and curiosity. Fear traveled up your spine as you realized this could very well be the end of your life. You opened your mouth to respond when the dark wolf spoke once more "You are cold, follow me and we can discuss your fate from there." He turned and walked calmly back into the storm. He was disappearing and you glanced behind you as his pack followed him. You could take your chances in the storm, though you could feel your stomach practically dragging you down with hunger and frost was on the ends of your fur. You looked back towards the alpha and his pack as they began to vanish into the storm. You had a choice to make, the storm or the pack?
Which will you choose? HistoryThe pack of the snow, unforgiving and harsh. Staining the snow red with their cruel games. The pack had no name for they were no true pack, the ancestors called them the Nameless. Every wolf for themselves and if you were weak, your blood would stain the snow as well. A runt was born to the litter and the alpha knew this pup would not survive so he threw her to the harsh environment and left her to die. This pup was named Fire, for she was small but the ancestors knew she would do great things. Fire's mother left the pack and raised her little one to be strong and mighty. In her dreams wolves spoke to her, they taught her the ways of a true pack and when she finally returned to the Nameless, she was met with teeth and claws. Fire did not give in and fought the alpha. When he fell the omegas rose above the other wolves and accepted Fire as their new leader, she told them of her dreams of what they could be. Fire named her back the Timber Pack as the trees around them were their shelter and their home. Rules +All forum rules apply! +Be as active as you can. TerritoryFive pointed star: Pack's den Square: Human Village Hexagon: Star Gazer's Meadow Lightning: Moon Peak Four pointed star: Sacred Spring Dash: ridge/overlook Chat bubble looking thing: Bear den Circle: White Lake Red X: Lazy River Purple X: Cackling River Yellow X: Moon River MountainAn area typically avoided by most of the pack is the Mountains. The terrain is rocky, steep, and slick for the most part and is hard to navigate for those who don’t know where they are going. Trips to the Mountains can be dangerous - predators such as bears and mountain lions roam. However, when the pack is pressed for food, the most skilled wolves can manage to hunt the large prey that reside in the Mountains. Moose, bighorn sheep, and elk can be found, but the wolves must remain cautious about their sharp horns, antlers, and hooves. Smaller prey, like marmots and rabbits, live in the Mountains as well, but aren’t very beneficial for the pack as a food source. The Mountains are also home to quite a few significant landmarks. These features are located in areas that aren’t as perilous to venture to, allowing all the wolves in the pack to visit. Moon Peak is a raised part of the Mountains that reaches up into the sky, almost as if it were trying to touch the moon. A bear den is located not far from Moon Peak in a rocky alcove that not many can reach. In the opposite direction of Moon Peak and the bear den, is a ledge rather high up where most of the Timber Pack’s territory can be seen. If wolves are not careful, however, they can easily slip and fall of the edge, landing on jagged rocks. Towards the top of one of the lower summits of the Mountains, is a spring - the Sacred Spring - that runs down past the bear den and into the Cackling River. Three other streams run through the Mountains; one downhill from the overlook, one passes Moon Peak, and the other on the east side of the Mountains. Forest The Timber Pack's territory consists of, essentially, the entire forest. It has to. With weather ranging from cold to frozen, they need as much hunting grounds as they can get. Also apparent by the fact that every long night season they must head up the mountain for better food to feed the pack. In addition, they must compete with the hunters that live by the edge of the woods for the few big prey that does stray from the mountain top. Normally, though, they don't come close to the den and the pack is certain the humans don't even know where it is. Pack prey consists largely of deer, but they will hunt smaller prey if they must such as hares and smaller birds. If they can get them, a wolf is also willing to go after bigger birds of prey like hawks and eagles. The lazy river is named as such because it is very calm and smooth moving. Hunters will fish here and pups may play in the water during the ice melt season under the Delta's supervision. It's also important to the pack that all wolves know how to swim. Parts of the river freeze over in the winter. With three different mountain streams flowing into it, the Cackling River is fast moving and very loud. To the right (looking at the map) it breaks off into a lake. On the surface, the lake is frozen almost all the time, regrowth season is the only time when it is not however it's still icy cold, but the rushing water underneath makes traversing across it treacherous. Humans ice fish there often in the colder months and so wolves must be cautious of them. Continuing straight into territory the pack prefers to avoid as much as possible, it breaks off further and eventually one branch runs right by the human village. The Moon River receives its name from the moon's reflection it gives off that can easily be seen staring down from Moon Peak. The pack's first healer, Star Gazer, believed he saw his ancestors walking along the water and followed them to a meadow of beautiful flowers and, more importantly, medicinal herbs. This meadow was named after him.
Traditions At every full moon that the weather permits, all able bodied wolves in the pack will travel to the Moon Peak to howl together and renew their relations to their ancestors as well as each other.
To graduate, pups will go on a hunting trip as a generation up the mountain under the supervision of several guardians and their Deltas and at least one Alpha and/or Beta. The adults will not interfere unless absolutely necessary. Each pup will also have two individual assessments: one their fighting/hunting skills and one their knowledge of herbs. These assessments can happen at any time during their graduation period and can be hosted by any higher up.
Two wolves are not officially mates until they have a ceremony under the night of a new moon on Moon Peak. Present are the Alphas and Healer. The Healer will bless them and the two will spend the night up on the mountain to represent that they will support each other through the darkness of the new moon and the light of the rising dawn. Upon their return to the den, the pack will have made them a new nest that they will share together.
The Alpha requests a wolf to be their Beta by presenting that wolf with a feather in front of the whole pack at dawn. If the wolf accepts the position, they will wear the feather behind their ear until dusk. Afterwards, the Beta will leave the feather in their nest.
When a wolf dies, the healer will make a trip up to the Sacred Spring and retrieve the rare flowers that grow there. The deceased will be buried under the mountain with said flowers and the pack will howl at Moon Peak as a send off. If it was the Alpha who died, the Alpha is buried with the feather they gave their Beta. If anything happened to the original feather, then one from the same type of bird must be found and buried with them.
The next healer is chosen by the pack's ancestors. The pup destined to become the next healer will have a very realistic dream of the Sacred Spring. They can have this dream at any time during their training (between 3-8 months old) at which point they will immediately be switched to the healer position.
Plots/Prophecies Major Plots: +This year's regrowth season brings with it warmer weather than usual. Because of this, the territory's snow has melted more so than usual and the first rain of the season brought with it a flood. The pack has retreated to their emergency den on the mountain.
Minor Plots: +After giving the pack a run for their money, the loner Spirit and her adopted pup Hail have joined the pack as omegas. Will they obtain full pack status? Only time will tell. And Fang.
Extra Information Setting: [ ] Long night season (winter) [ ] Ice melt season (spring) [ X ] Regrowth season (summer) [ ] White freeze season (fall)
Should a Beta lose their mate, they may either take a new one or step down from their position.
Hunters rely more on a combination of speed and power and so their legs are stronger whereas Guardians have their power more evenly dispersed through their body. All wolves born in the Timber Pack tend to have thicker fur.

Spirit watched as Hail bounded after one flower, then the next. Once he'd caught one and firmly placed it on the ground, hastening its trip, he would look in search of the next. She shook her head, her tail swishing across the forest floor. It was a pleasant surprise to find a field of flowers so far north. It reminded her of home, not that she missed the wolves there. No, she missed the territory and how she didn't have to worry about a pack coming at her out of nowhere. It seemed Hail was relaxed as well and Spirit was grateful for that.

*coughs* time for a super long starter post and to *wink* break the ice..get it...)
Fang let out a deep sigh as he stared at the wolves around him. He knew he had to wake up and set up a patrol, they were all out of food and he would need to send those out to do the hunting. It was almost time to choose a delta as well, his own pups were nearing the age to begin training as they were born early in the Summer. He looked around carefully searching for wolves he could send out. His eyes were full of mixed emotions, this was his pack and he cared for every wolf in it, even though some of those wolves did not deserve his nurturing side.
Echo stretched out as she woke up and she walked out of the den, sitting next to her mate. They had not fallen in love they were mates by law, though. By tradition Fang was required a mate and Echo took part in being his mate out of respect though she did enjoy the position as alpha as no one could tell her where she couldn't go. She just wanted to enjoy the breeze on her pelt, but now she had pups and she loved them dearly. They were hyper bundles and it was almost time for them to begin training, the whole generation was nearing that time.
Magnus woke up with a sense of purpose this morning, he knew that the alpha pair would be choosing deltas soon and he wanted to check in on the young wolves, including the Omega pup. He gave himself a shake, if it had been any other season frost would be littering his fur as he often times slept towards the entrance to the den but it was Regrowth and the snow was not nearly as heavy on the ground. He left the den and the sun shone against his brown fur, making his ears go back with content.
Storm stretched out and he looked around. It was never easy being one of the older wolves as the younger wolves always thought they were better because they had strength and energy on their side. Storm knew better though, it took much more than energy to win in a fight it took experience and he had plenty of it. He left the den, his stomach growled and he hoped that Fang would send out a hunting party. This was a good season for hunting as all the easy to catch prey was out and the hunting parties never lasted more than a day or two as the prey was always close by.
Avalanche woke up with a start, he had had a nightmare of his sister being attacked by a bear, he had those sometimes. He let out an inward groan as he noticed the pups were up, they were always causing trouble for the pack and he prayed to the ancestors that he would not be a delta. His jaws opened into a yawn and he pushed himself up so that he could go and exit the den, not before glancing around carefully.
Slate and Bane had already been awake for a while and were wrestling outside the den. They had decided to wake each other up, and no wolf wanted to get between the two wolves as both of them were pretty cruel when they needed to be. Bane was much more violent than his brother but Slate was still a powerful foe to mess with. Bane had something against Omega's and Slate just assumed he was better than everyone, the pair were a mess.
Gemini returned to the den with a rabbit, she had caught it for Echo as the mother needed a snack, though they were going to have to return with something bigger as the pack was hungry. Perhaps her brother would send out a hunting party soon, she prayed that soon Iris would be able to return to her duties as her sister had been an Omega since Fang had become an alpha.
Iris let out a giggle as she looked for other Omega's. She wouldn't lie being an Omega at times was fun as they were expected to mess around, the disgrace of the pack. She had heard that term many times but she didn't let it bother her too much, Fang had never blamed her for the incident with their father even though Iris herself had.
Ghost stalked his sister slowly, his eyes pinned on her. When he finally pounced the two rolled out of the den in a tumbling mess. Luna shoved her brother off of her angrily "that isn't fair! You're bigger than I am!" Ghost rolled his eyes "well so is half the prey the hunters catch! You can't use that as an excuse Luna"

Denali stretched languidly, surveying the area. He noticed Slate and Bane nearby and his eyes quickly flickered to the trees as though captivated. He had learned long ago that the two weren’t meant to be trifled with. A mere look could have consequences—at least, he thought so. Denali padded up to Gemini, an easygoing smile on his face. “So how’s your day been?” he asked.
Leandra looked around and sighed, her toes twitching. She was anticipating the next order from her superiors—anticipating anything that gave her an excuse to work, really. She rose to her feet with a shake of her shaggy pelt. She noticed Bane with Slate. Though she didn’t really have an opinion of Slate, as the two hadn’t talked much, Bane was a Guardian as well and she didn’t mind him. Figure I better use this free time wisely. Leandra contemplated padding up to him.
[Maybe they could be buddies or something]

(BLIZZ GOTTA QUESTION ANNOUNCEMENT THINGY TIME! Spirit and Hail are not in the pack yet and Fang is going to be sending out a hunting party where they find her. This will be limited to about 2 guardians, maybe 3 hunters, and fang if anyone wants their wolves to go please let me know before I make the post)
Gemini dipped her head in greeting "it's going fine, I caught scent of that outsider again I was getting ready to tell Fang but it looks like he's in his own mood." The she-wolf laid down and made herself comfortable as she looked at the pack life around her. All of the wolves were so amazing in their own ways it made her happy.
Bane looked up as the wolf approached and Slate took this to his advantage. The hunter slammed his brother down, knocking the breath from Bane. "Don't let your guard down" Slate said, lifting his head and letting out a victory howl. Bane stood up and shoved his brother "yeah yeah high and mighty jerk."
(Sure!)

Denali licked a paw and smoothed it over his windswept fur. “I gotta say, I could go for some prey right now,” he mused. Then he paused. “Well, guess that’s why I’m a Hunter.” He looked around the camp dimly. “Slow today, isn’t it?” Leandra padded up to them, looking down her nose at Bane as Slate knocked him down. “Nice one,” she remarked, nodding at Slate. blizzardsfang

(alright lovelies Fang post)
Fang let out a deep howl, signifying for the pack to look at him. He waited until everyone looked at him. He stood tall "I am leading a hunting party, Slate mentioned to me yesterday the loner's scent was still out there." he waited for the talking to stop and until every wolf was meeting his gaze. "Leandra and Strike you will be the guardians overseeing this trip. The hunters I want to join me are Ada, Denali, and Gemini." he jumped down from his den and padded to sit down, waiting for the wolves he called to come with him. He was going to hunt down some prey and then he was going to find the two wolves that had been living in his territory, and he was going to let them know exactly who's area they were trespassing in.

Leandra looked over her shoulder at the Alpha, cocking an ear. Strike had an attitude at times, but was as dedicated to the pack as her, so it was definitely something she could cope with—as long as she didn’t get on his bad side. Will we work well together? she mused. She knew Strike, but they had never worked closely with one another. blizzardsfang

Hail let out a squeal of delight as he happened upon an unfortunate hare. He pounced on it and chased it around the meadow. Spirit rolled her eyes. If they hadn't just eaten, she would be scolding the pup for frightening away their prey. But now it didn't matter as much. Still, the pup was adorable and she couldn't help but smile.

Strike had been talking to his sister, Ada, when they heard Fang begin to speak. Strike was rather emotionless at his name being called for the hunting group, but Ada smiled softly in excitement at her name. Ada padded over to where the group was forming, waiting for the other hunters. Strike trotted behind his sister as he thought about the other guardian going on the trip, Leandra. He hadn’t talked to her much yet and hadn’t formed an opinion of the she-wolf yet. Strike stood near the edge of the growing group, ready for an order from the alpha.

Fang gave a nod and he looked at the hunters "I want to find these loners. Today. No exceptions. You are all fine hunters catch their scent and work together." he looked at the two guardians "the predators might be out as prey is bountiful. Protect our hunters." He turned and let out a howl then took off. Gemini raced after her brother, not wanting to lose him, he had always been very fast.

Spirit's ears perked. This time, she was certain. There was no way she could mistake the same howl twice. The pack was moving. But they didn't normally howl when they hunted...unless...No....It was time to go. She stood up and glanced around. She knew the general direction their den was in and avoided it, but now they were coming straight for them. Bear dung. She'd been careless and now she and Hail were pressed between a rock and a hard place. Did she dare move towards the human encampment? It was mid day. They had to be out by now. Which was more dangerous? Humans, definitely. At least the pack she might be able to reason with...possibly. She could only hope it didn't come to that. "Hail!" Her sharp bark startled the pup and he quickly trotted over to her. "It's time to go." With that, Spirit bounded off into the woods. The pack was no doubt a patrol. It was bigger. She could evade them. She'd been doing so for a while now. She had to.

Ada nodded swiftly before taking off after Gemini. She was grateful for her long legs as they made it easier to keep the same pace as the two wolves in front of her. As she ran, she thought about the loners in their territory, feeling awful about what might just happen if they run into each other. The she-wolf took a quick glance backwards at her brother, the heavier male was towards the back of the group, not as fast as the hunters and alpha. Strike was just glad that he was able to keep up with the rest, the running occupying much of his mind.

I’ll reply so y’all can see this tomorrow)
Leandra kept a steady gait, her paws lightly thumping the ground. I have to save my energy, she thought; it was more wise to use a burst of strength when it was needed, rather than use all her strength trying to keep up. She hung back at the flanks of the group, observing potential hiding places. There were obvious signs that wolves had been in the area often, but this wear could very well be from pack wolves; nothing too alarming yet.
The ground became more rough and craggy as they left the camp; brittle shrubs poked from crevices, and brush provided perfect cover.
Leandra faltered, nose to the ground. Around a tangle of undergrowth, she picked up a faint scent; it was strong, like urine. She wrinkled her nose. It was obviously from a wolf, or at least a canine of some sort. It was hard to tell, because she hadn’t been exposed to many scents in her lifetime, aside from the scents of prey animals and that of pack wolves. With each venture outside the territory, something new was to be learned.
She cocked an ear with uncertainty. It was wise to let the others know, but she didn’t want to alarm them.
Leandra approached Strike’s side. “I got a scent,” she said in a low voice. “Something canine.”

Fang watched as Gemini stopped, she had always been very good at tracking down animals. She had been the one to find their fathers body on that fateful night. She lifted her head, her ears pinning up "Fang..they're on the move, we have to hurry." Fang gave a nod "when we get to them no one attack, surround them and only attack if necessary." The large wold turned and took off, his sister in the lead.
Gemini glanced back, the pack would have to keep up, she wasn't going to lose them this time, her brother was counting on her. She pushed her muscles and her eyes scanned for any sign of the other wolves. These loners weren't getting away this time, Fang was with them. She would not disappoint her alpha, and her alpha would not disappoint the pack.
Gemini stopped as she caught it, the scent was fresh, clearer now. Her eyes darted to her brother. He had caught it too. Fang was not going to wait around for them to get away the alpha took off with a speed that he had not shown before. After becoming a beta Fang was forced to prove himself much more often and train, so that when it was his turn to become the alpha there would be no questions.
Gemini pushed after her brother as he zoomed ahead, her legs were beginning to hurt trying to keep up with him, his muscles handled the strain muxh better than hers. Fang followed the scent, he was not letting go. He was not giving up. His paws left marks on the ground as he pushed with all he had. There were two of them he could scent it now. They would not outrun him.

Spirit glanced back as small animals scattered. Bear dung. They were going to be here soon. Hail wasnt fast enough for them to outrun the pack. Time for a change of plans. She scooped Hail up and he let out a squeak. "Hush." She mumbled through a mouthful of fur. SHe stuck him up behind some rocks. "Stay down and stay quiet." She ordered before turning and taking a defensive stance.

Fang finally reaches the wolf. That was odd, he smelled two, where was the other one. His eyes darted around in search for the other wolf. He gave a deep growl and he nodded to his sister to find the other wolf. Fang stood tall in front of the wolf before him. He snapped his jaws "you are in my territory." He said with authority.
Gemini began to follow the scent of the other wolf. She knew the rest of the hunting party would protect her as she followed the scent, glaring at the wolf that stood before Fang.

Leandra tensed, ears on the alert. She wore a terse expression on her face. The wolves up ahead seemed to have caught a definite trail, telling signs that they would find the outsiders very soon.
The ground grew more patchy up ahead, as though worn by footsteps. It seemed unlikely that any lone wolf would choose to settle there, right by a major pack. Expect the unexpected, she thought.

Ada was a few steps behind Gemini as Fang took off, Strike even more. The she-wolf became quite confused when a lone wolf came into view. She had smelt two obviously different wolves on their way here. Where was the second? Ada saw that Fang had the same question as her when he nodded at Gemini, telling her to find the other wolf. She brought her nose to the ground, sniffing intently as she slowly walked about the area.
While Strike arrived just after Fang gave a signal to Gemini, he understood what was going on as he saw two of the hunters in the group sniffing about. He looked back to Leandra, giving a slight nod in his sister’s direction, asking her to stay close to Ada. Strike padded closer to Gemini. He stayed still, not wanting to disrupt her, but close enough to help her if the hidden, second wolf jumped out.
