I honestly don't even have that much to say about it. It just gets better every time I read it, and I felt like saying that. The presence of the gay relationship is of course cool, but that is honestly just a small piece of why the book is fantastic. The story's two biggest themes are self-discovery and heritage/home/family/culture/belonging/etc (which is a lot of different things, but I feel they all sort of blend into one in this book). "The gay" is part of the self-discovery, but only part.
Agh. The more I think about the book, the more I'm just mentally stabbed by these little thoughts of "God, that was so good."

I need to reread it at some point because I’ve never been as fond of it as others. But this was a good post.

im one of the few who hate it and think it sucked. i now hate tallstar because of it glad u could like it though. i wish i could like it. Yikes, that's a very unpopular opinion! Why did you dislike it so much? i just found it to be all over the place. some times it was too slow paced, and other times things went by too fast. i also found the plot to be all over the place, and i dislike the erins had to make up a rogue group to direct tallstar's anger at when shadowclan would have made much more sense. i also don't like how tallstar's character was handled. he felt out of character compared to previous books, and was way too aggressive at times. yes, i know tallstar was much younger here and characters change and mature as time goes on but my problem is the reasoning for tallstar's anger. sandgorse wasn't very nice to tallstar and they didn't have a very good relationship, so i just found it a little strange tallstar would have such a strong reaction towards his father's death to the point he would up and abandon his clan so he could go murder someone. to me that would be like if breezepelt went to avenge crowfeather's death. it just... doesn't add up. and then in the end tallstar and sparrow talk and he just changes his mind and goes home like nothing happened and just changes into a completely different character and we never see why. it felt like such a waste, when we otherwise could have had a book focusing on the relationship between shadowclan and windclan. i think tallstar's anger would have worked so much better if it was directed at shadowclan, because they already had a canon past of harrassing windclan and killing their members and taking their territory. i also don't like jake and i despise tall x jake. one of the most forced things imo. tallstar was extremely mean to jake and only eventually got used to him out of loneliness imo. another thing i hate how rushed the actual parts of windclan are. we got to see the dynamics of every other clan during that time period, but barely anything of windclan. we never got to see heatherstar's warrior name. we barely got to see any of the warriors, because tallstar was gone for the majority of the book. we don't get to see a lot of the relations. tallstar's younger siblings exist for no reason and do nothing except for one that becomes onestar's mother but that's brief. deadfoot is barely mentioned and we don't see his relationship with tallstar at all, or any of tallstar's apprentices. i don't think the reedfeather situation is addressed at all, or if it is it's just briefly mentioned. i think seeing graypool and willowbreeze's time in windclan would have been interesting as well as how the clan reacted when they found out. just so many things are skipped over that i think would have been a lot more interesting than what we got. and just none of the characters are really that likable to me from what i can remember. i've already touched on tallstar. sandgorse is the typical mean parent. palebird barely exists, although i like how they gave her ppd. shrew whatever his name is the typical mean bully character we've already seen with thistleclaw and foxheart. he doesn't really do much. i think they make up in the end though which was nice but i wish we could have actually seen the progression of their relationship. the rogues are basic. idk it just wasn't very good to me. it took me a while to read through. over all it isn't my least favorite but i didn't enjoy it as much as everyone else.

Yeah, I wish that the Reedfeather thing was mentioned more! It was only hinted at a bit.
But wow! I really liked TR! It was so moving that I cried maybe 4 times while reading it!
1. When Talltail left and Shrewclaw admitted that he was only teasing Talltail and that he'd miss him. 2. When Talltail left Jake behind... 3. When Shrewclaw died 4. The manga at the end when Tallstar died
