BirchClan --- The hardy and agileLike the birch forest where they reside, they must be strong
In the blink of an eye, the large oak trees had become a shimmering birch forest. You placed your paws gently, amazed at the beauty around you. It was a nearly full moon, and the moonlight was draped over the trees, making them glow. Around you, you could hear crickets and the rustling of nocturnal animals. You continued walking, enjoying the still and warm night. After a few moments, you felt you were being watched and turned around to see a lithe silver tom. He looked at you, his large green eyes sweeping over your form. "You are here for a reason," he murmured gently. His eyes glowed with a mysterious knowledge of you. "You are not content with your life." Speechless, you could just nod. The silver tom stepped closer. "Follow the setting sun until you reach a river, there you will find a forest. Step into the beckoning trees and begin your new life." You hesitated, terrified at the thought of leaving your home. You opened your mouth to speak, but everything around you was fading away. Right before you awakened, you heard a whisper. Begin your journey.
Will you embark on this journey to join BirchClan? Join
|| History || Way back in the depths of time, BirchClan was founded by a silver-pelted loner looking to escape her past. She had been running for days, and couldn't run any longer. When she found the birch forest, she hid herself among the trees and waited until her attackers left. After she was sure she was safe, she set to making a life for herself among the trees that saved her. She found a mate and had kits, and took in more cats. She had a reputation of being hospitable, and would never turn away a cat in need. As the group grew bigger, she had dreams of a Clan and awoke with her strange ideas. At first, her group was skeptical, but eventually they embraced this new life and became BirchClan.
BirchClan cats are normally lithe and agile, with long legs and tails to climb trees. They can have short or long fur. They, like the birch tree, are hardy and can get through almost anything.

|| Territory ||Shimmering Willow- There is a pool at the very edge of the territory, right where the birch trees end and the open plains begin. It is guarded by an old willow that, when a cat is sleeping by the roots, will take them to StarClan. It's the medicine cat meeting place.Moss Rocks- A place close to the stream. It's the apprentice training grounds and it's a small clearing with a pile of large, moss covered boulders on the edge. Snake River- Snake River runs along the far edge of the territory, opposite the plains. The banks of the river are very rocky and is directly in the sun. Snakes like to sun on them.The Plains- Occasionally, some cats hunt there. It has an abundance of rabbits. Shaded Forest- The woods that border the birch forest. Very dark, most sunlight never reaches there. Not many cats like it because it's not as open as their home. The Cliffs- In the forest, there is a huge cliff face. The birch trees spread around and up a hill. It takes a day to travel to the top and when you get there, it's nice....unless you fall. || Camp ||The BirchClan camp is settled right in the middle of the forest, hidden by bushes and long grass.
Leader's den: The leader's den is located in a large bush next to the Ancient Birch. The Ancient Birch is the gathering place, and has a scratch in the bark to represent all the leaders that came before.
Medicine den: The medicine den is nestled in a clump of bushes against two fallen birch trees. Long grass around it further hides it.
Warriors den: Located across the edge of the camp, across from the leader's den. It's a mixture of a clump of bushes and underground tunnels that connects to the apprentice's den.
Apprentice's den: Next to the warrior's den. Is a hole in the ground surrounded by long grass. Moss is piled thickly on the ground to keep them warm. Underground dens are optional.
Elder's den: A cluster of fallen birches form a protective little den. Dug out a little to make it bigger.
Nursery: Like the warrior's den, it's a cluster of bushes reinforced with branches from Shaded Forest.

|| The Clan ||
--Leader--
Lichenstar || Female || 35 moons Lichenstar is a white she-cat with grey on her front paws, spots of grey on her legs, and grey over the left half of her face and ear. It spreads over slightly to spot around her right eye and ear. Her tail is mostly grey, and she has a few medium sized patches on her back, side, and stomach. Her chest and throat are mainly white with a few smaller spots of grey. Her legs are long, like most BirchClan cats. Also like Birchclanners, she has a long tail. Her ears are large and pointed, and her fur is short. She has small petite paws. || Personality: Lichenstar is not one to be messed with. She has a short temper, and will not hesitate to lash out, with her words or claws, it doesn't matter to her. She is stern and stubborn and likes to get her own way. Lichenstar is good at training apprentices, despite her attitude, and has had multiple in her lifetime. She has a hard exterior, and rarely shows her soft side in front of others. Her sharp tongue and wit intimidates some cats and angers most. Her views are very straightforward. She expects to be obeyed and severely punishes those who don't. Rundown: Stern, stubborn, blunt, short-tempered, cold, hard headed, severely loyal, fighter.
--Deputy-- None yet
--Medicine Cat--
Spidereye || Tom || 56 moons Handsome long legged solid black tom with a thin framed body. His pelt is medium length that tends to just stick out in every direction no matter how hard the tom tries to make it lie down. He has deep yellow eyes almost amber in color and on his left eye he has a double pupil defect. Some say he has an acute sense of sight, when in actuality he has just normal eyesight. It is also said that because of this defect he is able to see Starclan in broad daylight. Spidereye is a seasoned tom who had first been a warrior, until he had a vision from Starclan calling him to be a medicine cat. At times he can be found sparring with other warriors to help keep his battle skills sharp. || Personality: He is a wise tom who tends to be snappy towards those who are careless and needy. He loves caring for his clan and finds his role as a medicine cat very powerful... sometimes even more powerful than a clan leader knowing the influence he can have on the clan. Due to the fact that this tom was warrior for a number of moons he finds it difficult to suppress his personal desires and though he's careful about it, he has been found flirting with the she-cats from time to time.
--Medicine Cat Apprentices--
--Warriors-- Creeksong || Female || 34 moons Creeksong is a beautiful lean framed she-cat with tight muscles that ripple beneath her short sleek pelt. Her base coat is a pale dusky brown with the occasional rich dark golden color. She has slightly diluted dark brown tabby markings and her belly is dappled with the same color but instead of stripes they are spots. The only white that is on this warrior is along the riming of her top lips and her bottom jaw before it fades back to a pale brown. Her nose is dark pink and her eyes are green, both rimming with black skin. Creeksong has long strong legs making her stand slightly taller than the average cat, making her a swift runner and hunter. Her tail is thin and long just like the rest of her body with darker brown rings around it and the tip of it being solid dark brown. She has tall triangular ears that are slightly wider than normal giving her an amazing sense of hearing. || Personality: Creeksong had a silent sweet disposition, with a heart full of fierce loyalty. She is kind and caring and one day wishes to have kit but in the meantime when she isn't busy she spends her time hanging around the nursery helping the queens and loving on the kits. She is not one to be known to ever raise her voice and when she talks normally her voice is soft on the ears almost like a song, hence her name.
Kestrelflight || Male || 26 moons Kestrelflight is a brown tabby tortoiseshell (torbie) tom with orange on his legs, back, and neck. His paws and chest are white, and most of his body, his tail, and the top of his head are brown. He has the classic tabby markings on his fur, but also spotted tabby markings. His ears are a bit larger than most, almost comically so, and his legs are long. His body is long and lean and made for running. || Personality: Kestrelflight can be seen as reckless and carefree, running into things with almost no thought about his own safety. He loves to run and hunt, and has a very cheerful attitude. It's hard to get him down unless you directly insult him, and then he will remain in a bad mood for days. He's always thinking of new ideas and he never seems to stop talking. He is very loyal and he knows his own life is worth nothing next to the lives of others.

--Queens--
--Elders--

(Oh, and at the moment we do have a plot. If you want more info it's in the News link in the first post)
Lichenstar sat on top of Moss Rocks, gazing at the stream twinkling through the trees. Her long tail snaked over the rocks to rest beside her front paws. The white tip tapped aimlessly on the stones. Her mind was deep in thought and far away from where she sat now. Instead, it was simply across the stream and in the Shaded Forest. Nobody in BirchClan liked that forest; it was too dark and cramped. Lichenstar supposed that she didn't mind it. Well, when rogues weren't stinking up the place. Currently, for the first time in a long time, the Clan had a rivaling group. They were staying in the Shaded Forest after so rudely telling Lichenstar that she had to leave. That earned their messenger a swipe across the face. The grey and white leader had sent her off with a warning: Leave them alone or face destruction. Of course, the cocky messenger had laughed in her face....That got her a sizable wound that would most likely scar.
Everyone told Lichenstar that she was too violent. Lichenstar had promptly shut them out of her life. They didn't get to tell her what she could and couldn't do. It was her life, and she decided to use violence to get where she needed to go. Obviously not all the time, just when she thought words just wouldn't cut it.
Lichenstar's tail stopped thumping on the rocks as she came back to the present. The she-cat heaved a loud sigh as she glanced up at the sun. She should probably be getting back to camp soon, seeing as patrols would be going out and she'd need to make sure everything was running smoothly. In a few more moments, she promised herself, allowing her body to relax in the early morning sunlight.

Spidereye had been awake since the first day of sunlight broke over the horizon. He had a busy agenda for the next couple of days and the slim black tom was focused. The clan had been threatened by a rival group of rouges, and as the medicine cat it was he responsibility to make sure that Birchclan taken care of. Any scratch or bite had to be cared for, all of the clans warriors needed to stay strong and sharp minded. The last thing the experienced tom wanted was for their rival to have the upper hand because of an infected wound.
Having just finished organizing his medicine stores, Spidereye allowed his long legs carry him out of the camp and into the birch wood forest at a swift trot. He's current mission was to gather more herbs and his mind quickly recited the specific ones that he needed to retrieve. 'Marigold, horsetail, burdock root, and poppy seeds. Well and probably more cobwebs but I can do that later', he thought to himself as his dark yellow eyes scanned to foliage around him.
The black toms paws carried him north towards Moss Rocks, though that wasn't his destination, he would just simply pass through. The medicine cat knew that the only place to get burdock root was along the edge or within the shaded forest, and he needed a well watered area to find both the marigold and horsetail. The poppies were located close to the Plains, making his overall trip a big one. If only he had an apprentice to help him out. Inwardly he reminded himself to be on the lookout for a possible apprentice, as he approached the well know apprentice training area.

As he came upon Moss Rocks, Spidereye caught the scent of Lichenstar and his tail tip started to flick side to side. Once he came upon his clan leader the toms yellow eyes narrowed at her cold tone. "Lichenstar", he greeted with a reluctant dip of his head. He knew of the dislike towards him from his leader, but didn't let it bother him. "Just simply doing my duties for the clan." His response with short not caring to carry on a conversation with her.
The tom had briefly paused in his trek when he reach her but now that the formalities were out of the way he started to move away from the white and grey she-cat. "I must be ready to treat the wounded", he added to inform her that he was in search of healing herbs for the clan. He personally had nothing against his leader, the tension that was between them stemmed from the younger cat and made an unavoidable friction.
-------------
Creeksong blinked open her emerald green eyes, the rich morning light causing her to quickly shut them and slowly blinked so she could allow her eyes to adjust to the daylight. The lithe shecat lay curled up from within the warriors den, having accidently overslept. Yawning she rose to her paws and exited the warriors den. She was supposed to go hunting this morning, but it seemed as if she missed call for the hunting patrol.
Not wishing to let her clan down, Creeksong shook out her pelt to help her wake up before setting out into the birch forest. She took towards the Snake River allowing her senses to take everything in as she walked silently, her delicate dusky brown paws strategically placed.

Lichenstar eyed the medicine cat. "Very well. Carry on." She flicked her tail in dismissal of their conversation and walked away back to camp. She caught Creeksong's scent and assumed she was out hunting. Giving a nod of approval, she trotted back to camp, her amber eyes sweeping over the forest as she went. She didn't want to be caught by surprise if the rogues decided to attack. However, she figured they wouldn't dare after her treatment to one of their members. Besides, Lichenstar was sure they didn't have enough cats to take on her Clan. With a proud smirk, she entered camp, heading straight for her den to watch the Clan without being bothered. The grey and white leader settled herself in the mouth of the den and watched as Kestrelflight exited the warrior's den and hurry out of camp. Although it didn't seem like it, Lichenstar did trust her Clan. Well, until they gave her a reason not to.
~~~~
Kestrelflight stretched in his nest, his sleep disturbed by someone walking out of the den. Although he loved open spaces in which he could run, he was one of the warriors that chose a den underground. The tom didn't know why, but where some felt suffocated by the earth walls, he felt safe. He stood and stretched again before grooming quickly and trotting out of the den. He emerged into bright sunlight and squinted, waiting for his eyes to adjust. Kestrelflight spotted Lichenstar sitting by her den and dipped his head as both a greeting and out of respect. She flicked her tail in acknowledgment. He turned away and sniffed the air, noticing that Creeksong had just left. He wondered if he could hunt with her, so he bounded out of the camp, following her trail. Once he saw her brown pelt through the trees he called out. "Hey, Creeksong!" He trotted up next to her, not even slightly out of breath from his short run. "You want to hunt together? Two hunters are better than one," he meowed. The tom was attempting to be friendly, but he hoped he didn't come off as overbearing or too enthusiastic. He knew that it seemed like that sometimes, and it probably creeped some cats out.
The sound of rapid paw steps alerted the warrior of her upcoming clanmate. Stopping she turned and focused her eyes and ears on the sound curious as to who might be following her. When Kestrelflights pelt came into view she quickly recognized who it was and her long thin tail raised up high. Waving welcomingly towards the tom "Kestrelflight", she greeted with a purr her voice soft and gentle as he approached her side and became even with her. "I thought I was the only one who missed the main hunting party", she meowed with a playful tone.
"I would be happy to have you join me, now I won't have to talk to myself", the lean tabby added and looked back towards the direction she was originally headed. "I was gonna head towards Snake River and hunt along the way. Maybe even do some fishing." The thought of eating fish made the shecats mouth water, it was her favorite thing to eat. Fishing however wasn't very common amongst the clan, and she was still trying to improve her skills. Her father, Thornswipe, had taught her how to fish when she was an apprentice and she was so grateful to have the skill. "What do you think?", She questioned her clanmate curious if her plan sounded good to him or not.
Kestrelflight wrinkled his nose as Creeksong suggested fishing. He had always heard that fish were slimy and stinky, so that was the stereotype he believed, but he personally had never tried fish. He preferred the earthy taste of rabbits, and, of course, the chase. He shrugged. "I've never tried fish and I've never been fishing," he replied, completely unashamed at his lack of skill. "But I'd be willing to give it a try." The tom doubted he'd be very good, as his talent lied with his speed, not swimming.
The end of Leopardfrost's tail twitched rapidly. His jowls parted to scent the air. Hackles raised as he took note of a stranger scent that had been too close to BirchClan's border.
Glancing around he saw no cat. Yet it was definitely cat he had scented. No cat known to himself. Perhaps a kittypet, or a loner. His ears pressed back against his head. Rogue cat's however were bad news. He could not be certain of what lay beyond the border, but he didn't like it.
With a huff of air he turned, tail still flicking at the end as he left the edge of Shaded Forest. Lichenstar would need to be told so that she could determine what course the clan should take in regards to this potential intrusion should those unknown unseen cats cross into their territory.
On his way back to camp he stood stock still when he heard bird song. Lowering himself to the ground he crept around one of the birch trees the territory was known for. The bird was looking for a worm. It appeared to him as if it had found one and while the bird was trying to pull the wriggling thing out of the ground he leaped. His paws came down on the bird even as it tried to take flight.
With a quick bite to the birds neck he ended its life. "Thank you StarClan," he whispered and carried the black bird with him to camp where he set it down on the area of the fresh-kill pile.
He stared a moment at the fresh-kill and with a flick of his tail turned to head toward Lichenstar's scent was strongest indicating she was there in camp. "Lichenstar?"
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Mapleshine stretched her forelegs, her tail arching over her back. Parting her jowls she yawned. She'd fallen asleep at Moss Rocks while trying to think of what best to teach. She hoped for an apprentice sooner rather than later. Yet she knew there were those who were moons older than her that were overdue for an apprentice of their own. Yet she'd already went on an earlier patrol so she'd been due for a nap. Now however as she glanced at the position of the sun without looking directly at its blinding brightness she thought it best to hunt even if she hadn't been given that duty that day. Fresh-kill was always appreciated after all.
Before she even took a pawstep away she blinked as a scent caught her unawares. She blinked and then shook out her fur. One of her clan mates was nearby. Licking her chest fur, she wondered if she'd been caught dozing.
Lichenstar, who was sitting next to her den with her eyes half-closed, opened them and looked up as she heard Leopardfrost. “Yes?” she asked. Knowing the warrior had just been out, she was interested to hear what he had to report. She glanced over at the fresh-kill pile before he answered, noting it was a bit low, but reminding herself that Creeksong and Kestrelflight had gone hunting as well. She figured that if it was still low after the two warriors got back, she might go hunting, stretch her legs a bit. The grey and white leader turned her attention back to Leopardfrost, hoping that he was going to tell her something worth her time. Something about the status of the rogues, maybe.
Leopardfrost dipped his head to Lichenstar before his eyes sought hers. "There was strange cat scents near Shaded Forest. Not on the territory, but close enough to be concerned." At least he was concerned, but that didn't mean others would be necessarily. Yet it always was a good idea to pay attention to the details and keep a look out lest any of the potential problems turn into actual ones. "There were at least four different cat scents and a hint of catmint which they might have walked on somewhere in Shaded Forest." He only mentioned the catmint in case it was something that was needed by the clans medicine cat.
Leopardfrost dipped his head and turned. He spoke not a word as he arched his tail over his back and pointed the tip in the direction ahead. Just as his paws left the camp he asked, "Perhaps we'll find someone else on patrol to come with us in case its more cats than I could scent?" He thought there could be more, but hoped there weren't. Not if it was just himself and the clan leader. Still if it was only four that didn't mean that they were helpless being outnumbered. He'd trained after all to take on two warriors are once.
She continued forwards along a common path through the forest her sharp green eyes doing their best to scan their surroundings for prey. "Don't expect to stay dry though, cause you'll get wet some. Just try not to fall in", she giggled casting a glance back to the tom. Fishing could definitely get a cat wet. Most the time it's just your paws and legs, but your chest and face can get splashed.
As Spidereye left Lichenstar behind and continued to pick his way through and out of Moss Rocks he came across yet another clan members scent. This time the tom perked up and slight changed course to head in her direction. The black tom recognized the scent to belong to Mapleshine, a pretty shecat and a good friend. It wasn't long before he came upon her his yellow eyes catching sight of her cream colored pelt. "Greetings Mapleshine", the tom called out to her, his long black tail waving behind him. Carefully he picked his way to her, not wanting to trip and fall or step on a possible thorn. Maybe if she wasn't busy she could join him in gathering herbs, it would be nice to have company, especially hers.
Mapleshine;;
Gaze of yellow settled upon the dark pelted tom. "Spidereye, hello." She greeted him with tail held high in welcome. She watched him approach with a small mewl as he worked his way through as if trying to avoid something. "Still worried about treading on a thorn? Out of the camp to collect herbs I take it?"
Spidereye gave the shecat a quick and playful sharp look as she pick on him about him being cautious. "The clan would be doomed without me, I'd hate for a thorn or snake to be my downfall", the black tom retorted as he reached her side. Giving her a friendly sniff he then continued. "Yes I am. With the appearance of the rouges I would hate to be unprepared. I was just about to head towards the Shaded Forest for some burdock root care to join me?" He meowed the invitation welcomingly hoping that she wouldn't refuse. He knew it was something that an apprentice would normally do but Spidereye hoped that the task was not was not beneath her.
Well, what did he expect? Fishing in the water was an obvious indication that he would. With a shrug, the tom told himself to keep an open mind and at least try, as he walked beside Creeksong. Soon, he saw the glimmer of the river through the trees and looked at Creeksong as they got closer. "So, uh, how does this work?" he meowed awkwardly as he tried to get a glimpse of fish swimming in the calm river. Truthfully, Kestrelflight had never seen any cat fishing, so his mind made up all different kinds of ways a cat might catch one of the slimy things.
Lichenstar didn't like it at all that cats were trespassing on her territory. And they would pay dearly for it. "Hopefully we won't need any more warriors." (ugh sorry this is so bad and short.)
