Dumb question, I know. But let me explain. Several years ago, when I received the Warriors books in the first series (one after another), I devoured them faster than I can eat apple pie. When I began reading The New Prophecy, I loved it just as much as the older series; if not, even more so. But I could not find the first book of the Power of Three anywhere. I felt guilty skipping the entire series, but I ended up doing so. Since then, I have read Omen of the Stars and Dawn of the Clans, as well as a few guides and several super editions. I tried reading A Vision of Shadows a few years ago, but I could not read it. It was then that I also lost interest in reading, for unrelated reasons. :/ What did I miss in The Power of Three? I know most of the basics about what happened with Ashfur and Squirrelflight, but other than that? Not a thing. Please, please give me some basic, spoiler-free info about what happened in the third series in the Warriors franchise! This way, it may encourage me to read them again! Please and thank you!

It'll be hard to explain it to you and stay spoiler free considering the events of POT go into OotS, which is a continuation.

It's impossible to explain what happened without giving spoilers... I'm not sure what info you're looking for. Can you be more specific with what you're asking? I can't say what happened without, well, saying what happened.

It's basically how Hollyleaf, Lionblaze, and Jayfeather grow up.

I can't say what happened without, well, saying what happened. I mean, did I miss anything so huge (ex. something as big as the "move" in The New Prophecy) that it is best if I go back and read it regardless?

Well, yeah. Po3 sets up the plot for OOTS and if you want to read OOTS and the series beyond you need to read po3 to understand why certain things in OOTS are happing. It’s not a standalone series where everything is started and wrapped up within itself—certain things from TNP set it up and OOTS finishes the plot started by Po3.

Then perhaps one day, I will read both series. But I would have to re-read DotC, or read AVoS. I quite disliked OotS.

No, you wouldn't. You said you already read OotS. You can always read PoT (which is good, compared to OotS) and read summaries of OotS if you want to be reminded but don't want to read the full thing.

Then perhaps one day, I will read both series. But I would have to re-read DotC, or read AVoS. I quite disliked OotS. You don't have to re-read DotC to understand PO3/OOTS, and again, I would recommend reading PO3 before going on in the series. Missing that series leaves out an extensive amount of background and buildup for both series. DotC and TNP are really the only series you can read out of order and still have a complete understanding of them - TPB wraps up everything pretty well and TNP goes over the basics of what you need to know, and DotC is entirely standalone in the terms of timeline and cast. PO3/OOTS/AVOS aren't the same. OotS isn't a big fan favorite, but part of the problem is that it's essentially the second half of a plotline, with PO3 being the first half. It's going to be a lot less enjoyable when you don't have any background connection to the main characters or their drama.
