Falcontooth encourages his mentor's retirement. He knew it must be difficult for him in the wake of his mate and daughter's death due to the war and the tom was older than both Rowandusk and Pinenose. The other nursery helper promises that he will take good care of the kits and it wasn't like he was leaving- the elder's den would always be open for them to visit and ask for their stories. After speaking with Jadestar, Reedspring retires.

Sunrise, busy with training Orangepaw, gradually spends less time with Cloudshine and Honeycomb. When she notices her two friends acting closer than usual, she accepts that perhaps it was for the best and encourages Honeycomb to pursue her crush. Honeycomb surprises her by confessing that she had feelings for Sunrise as well. It initially confused the former rogue and she was a bit apprehensive with the both of them in the following weeks. However, Sunrise realized she liked the both of them as well. Eventually, the three become mates.

Featherfall requests to train one of Waterblossom's kits. He is guilty that he had been appointed deputy without having an apprentice even though Jadestar had insisted that rule wasn't set in stone especially during a time of war. Regardless, he would feel more confident in his position if he could train someone.

While out trying to hunt water voles, Sparkpaw slips into the river and is washed away by the current. Emberblaze tries to hook her with a branch but fails to drag her up. A MintClan patrol sees this and tries to help but the she-cat had spent too long underwater and drowned.

Stonesong tries but fails to get Drizzlepaw more engaged with training alone. He instills the help of his friend Spiderfoot. The former rogue is a much more outgoing personality and that helps the apprentice out of his shell more, taking note that he was particularly good at fighting. However, his sister Orangepaw is much more subdued. Sunrise was perfectly happy to ease up on the training - she only matched the energy of her apprentice and her background as a rogue naturally made her a more independent teacher. Orangepaw busied herself with apprentice chores that her brother was now ignoring in favor of more training. She is particularly close with the elders.

In an effort to get her out of camp more, Shadefern requests that Orangepaw come to the gathering. Although it took a bit of convincing, she tags along when she learns all the other apprentices would be there too. There, apprentices meet a particularly callous MintClan apprentice called Larchpaw. He is little younger than Orangepaw and Drizzlepaw but much bigger and definitely has the biggest mouth among all the apprentices at the gathering. He scares Rootpaw after she accidentally bumps into him, makes fun of Orangepaw's quietness when Drizzlepaw talks for her, and shoves into Streampaw as he was called back by his mentor. The experience disappoints the youngest apprentices a bit because it was their first gathering but their mood quickly changes when their names are called.

When the time comes for Orangepaw and Drizzlepaw's assessment, both their mentors are confident that their training was sufficient. Sunrise can sense a bit of Orangepaw's tentativeness still but she reassures her that she would do great. Drizzlepaw even promises her that he would refuse a ceremony until she got hers. In the end, the both pass and earn their warrior names.

Some lingering scents are found at the border and straying into the territory, definitely outsiders but none anyone recognized. Featherfall increases patrols in that area in case they decide to show up. Although it would still be a while until Leaf-bare, the clan needed to be careful about protecting their resources.

The newest warriors were having their vigil when they both heard something moving through the woods haphazardly. Rootwhisker woke up Jadestar and Featherfall who assembled a patrol while Streamleap went to investigate. They followed a trail of tracks that led to the border with the strange scents, fresh prey blood evident. Some stranger was hunting in AppleClan land and evidently not doing a very good job of being clean about it.
