canaanitethe canaanite religion acted as the barrier between mesopotamia and ancient greece. a majority of the grecian (and later, roman) myths and gods appear to be direct decendents from the canaanite mythologies. the canaanites lived on the east side of the mediterranean sea in approximately 6200BC to anywhere between 900-850BC. being a mediterranean near east area, the people had a mythos and culture not unlike the egyptians, focused heavily on the importance of agriculture in such a dry and barren land. anat: goddess of war. wife of baal asherah: mother goddess. the mother of basically everyone. baalat / baalit: chief diety of byblos ba'al: god of rain, thunder, and fertility baal-hammon: god of fertility and renewal in the phoenician colonies chemosh: the god of moab dagon: god of crop fertility el: god of the sky, father of a bunch of lesser gods el elyon: god most high eshmun: phoenician god of healing kathirat: a group of goddesses, all divine midwives kothar-wa-khasis: skilled, clever god of craftmanship and weapon-making lotan: seven-headed sea serpent or dragon. yam's pet, sort of a leviathan melqart: the king of the city, the underworld, and the cycle of vegetation in tyre. mot: god of the underworld, sterility, death, and the waterless desert nikkal: goddess of fruit and orchards, married to yarikh qadeshtu: the holy one, goddess of love resheph: god of plague and healing shalim and shachar: twin gods of dusk and dawn shamayim: the god of the sky and heavens shemesh: god of the sun tanit: goddess of the moon yam: god of the sea yarikh: god of the moon. married to nikkal. signified by a sickle. yahweh: the israelite god egyptian the entire purpose of the existence of egyptian mythology is to comprehend the physical world, to create order from chaos. literally, as it is believed the gods created the universe out of primordial chaos. the main themes are maat, the fundamental order, and the importance of maintaining it, and the continual death and regeneration of the gods.

norse norse gods and goddesses are split into two groups, the aesir and the vanir. these two groups were joined together after centuries of war, though freyj and his sister freyja still lead the vanir. gullveig, however, never broke bread with the aesir. because they tried to burn her three times. most myths surrounding the norse gods are about their plights, or about their interactions with humans or the jötnar, the giants who can be family, lovers, friends, or foes at any given time.

♦ El ♦ Male ♦ Can give life to inanimate objects ♦ @brambletoe ♦ ♦ WIP ♦ Sch ♦ Male ♦ Uses light to create Illusions so realistic that you can be harmed by them ♦ @brambletoe ♦ ♦ He stands at just under 6'3 with rippling muscles underneath his burned bronze skin. His hair is black that are complemented by his amber eyes. He has wandered among mortals for so long that he has forgotten much of his past. What he does remember is disconnected bits and pieces much like the histories of his existence by the mortals. The most important things he remembers is being the son of El (like many others) as well as being the twin of Shalim. Overall he is a kind if not strict god. Unlike most others he has no problem fraternizing with them which has led him to get into some conflicts in the past especially due to him occasionally being romantically involved with a few.

Ancient Egyptian
♦ Bast ♦ Female ♦ Feline transformation, forcefield ♦ lapochka ♦ ♦ As the ancient Egyptian goddess of cats, Bast has the capability to transform into any feline, ranging from a domestic house cat to a ferocious lioness. Her name, Bast (though she's also known as Bastet, Ubasti, and Pasch) means devourer, tying in with the fact that not only is she the goddess of cats, but also the goddess of protection, being the protectress of women, children, and domestic cats. Because domestic cats tend to be tender, gentle, and protective towards their offspring, Bast is regarded as a good mother, even though she doesn't necessarily have any children. Long story short, she's basically the mom friend. She values life and liberty and asserts the importance and value of the life of mortals, things of beauty, and freedom from oppression. Despite her positive outlook on things, if you ever make her mad or upset, her wrath knows no bounds. Bast figured that walking among the humans with the head of a cat would draw too much attention, so this is what she looks like in her human form. She appears as a young woman, standing at 5'4", whose child-like face is dusted with freckles and natural makeup to ensure that she doesn't cover them up. She manages her curly hair by keeping it short, which is something that she didn't realize was 'fashionable' until mortal women complimented her, which, apparently, is a mean of communication for them. Ever since then, she maintains the highest appearance, not unlike a cat who consistently grooms themselves. As a cat, she appears as a normal, sleek black cat. The one thing that makes her feline form stand out from other cats is the abundant amount of gold jewelry that adorns her black fur. She wears a thick golden collar around her neck decorated with various triangles, lines, a hanging pendant of a scarab beetle, and a symbolization of the Eye of Ra, because she is the personification of the extension of his power. Along with the collar, she has gold hoop earrings in both ears and a septum piercing. So much for keeping a low profile.
♦ Nephthys ♦ Female ♦ Senses death, necromancy ♦ lapochka ♦ ♦ Goths love her. Being the goddess and defender of the dead, Nephthys has what some would call a strange obsession, or fascination with them. While adapting on Earth, she decided being a mortician would be best suited to her interests. Her and the dead? They're homies. She is even considered to be "the friend of the dead," having provided assistance to the souls of the deceased. She doesn't look Goth, though. Of course she wears all black, that's part of the territory that comes with being her, but beyond that she actually looks fairly normal. Her details are soft, but her jaw pronounced slightly. Her hair is worn in braids, a throwback to the Egyptian pharaohs of old. She has an hourglass figure and very long legs, her height being 5'7", almost 5'8". Which, apparently, for mortal women, is fairly tall. One would think, as the Goddess of the dead, her personality would be. Well. Lacking. This is quite the contrary. She is actually very outgoing and passionate. Nephthys tends to trip up her words, a lot, as she doesn't usually have to worry about saying the wrong things to the dead. She is a very kind person, and it's quite obvious that her heart is in the right place. Most people wouldn't think that, of course, mainly because of her appearance, but it's true. Even though she is all around a pretty friendly person, the one person she hates the most is Set. One wouldn't think so, considering the fact that you know, they're married, and Nephthys is literally his female counterpart, but still. She hates him with a burning passion, mainly because he is responsible for the death of her sister (who she was very jealous of) Isis's husband Osiris.
♦ Wadjet ♦ Female ♦ Serpent transformation, time manipulation, karma ♦ abeille ♦ ♦ It's almost ironic how a Goddess who manifests into a cobra is also the goddess of justice, if we use the modern definition of 'a snake'. She looks like one. Wadjet looks sly, and cunning, like she'll betray you at any moment. This can be attributed to her green-blue eyes, which portray her as being both serpent like, and also exist to pay homage to the etymology of her name (wadj being the Ancient Egyptian word for green). They contrast pretty heavily with her medium-dark skintone, making them stand out heavily. To enforce the green more, she typically wears green clothing (satin is her favorite material as of right now), especially dresses. You also wouldn't catch her without glittering gold jewelry, weather it be large statement necklaces, armbands, circlets, bracelets, whatever. This, of course, was a carry over from her Egyptian Goddess-ness. Looks like a snake, doesn't act like one. She's almost chaotic good in the way that she enforces justice, and is a big believer in karma. She's kind and protective when you're on her good side, but she is suspicious of all, always looking out for wrongdoings. If she finds one, may the Gods help you. Even things as small as cutting in line at the coffee shop, don't be surprised if they find themselves spilling coffee all over themselves. These little acts of karmic justice she lives for, and of course, wills to happen. There are also few powers that Gods have that they know they absolutely cannot use. Like the manipulation of the heavens - basically anything that messes with the cosmic balance of the universe. Time, naturally, falls under this.

♦ Athena ♦ Female ♦ Shapeshifting ♦ kai ♦ ♦ Although she has the ability to shift and mold her physical appearance, Athena finds it tedious to use her powers to change herself, so she sticks to her natural looks. Being a goddess, Athena has an aura of power and regality to her, she stands tall at around 5'8 with a fit and athletic build. She is muscular and lithe with long legs and lightly tanned skin. Much of her time is spent indoors, but while outside she tans slowly and the sun splashes freckles across the bridge of her nose and cheeks as well as some across her shoulders and arms. Athena has thick, sleek and straight hair, that falls just to her shoulder blades in a dark chestnut shade, and bangs that reach just below her eyebrows and lengthen out with the rest of her hair. When reading, Athena will be seen sporting tortoise large rimmed glasses. Behind her glasses, Athena's cold, stormy grey eyes appear calculating and intense, as though thinking through every scenario possible in any moment. Being the Goddess of Wisdom and many other things, Athena uses her incredible mind often, and can appear to be staring off into space, while she is actually thinking many things over all at once, pondering possibilities. While Athena may appear easy on the eyes, once one talks to her, she can come across as crude, crass and condescending. As stated before, she is the Goddess of Wisdom, Strategy, Mathematics, Skill, etc., and can often think a bit highly of herself. While she may not intend it, Athena can come across as a "smarty-pants", and snotty while talking about something she knows a lot about, which is many things. Combined with being a literal god, Athena is a bit of a snob, which is something she is constantly working on. These attributes make some people avoid her, and this makes her isolated and alone, which isn't something she necessarily dislikes, after all she thinks and works best on her own. Being the Goddess of Justice, she will be quick to stand up for those being pushed around or mistreated. Athena's abilities allow her to shift her physical characteristics, and she can change into an owl at will, as it is her sacred animal.
♦ Hades ♦ Male ♦ Thanatokinesis (Control of the dead), Mineral Sense (Gemstone/gold quality and location), Necromantic medium/ruler ♦ newmoonwiccan ♦ ♦ The tale of Hades is... the tale of the origin of the gods themselves. When Chronus and Rhea had children, the Titan Chronus was approached by a soothsayer who told him that one of his children will overthrow and kill him. In desperation, the titan swallowed each and every child he had, namely Hades and Poseidon. Their sibling Zeus escaped and brought the titan down low, freeing his two brothers from the titan’s gullet. Wondering how to divide the world between the three, they came to a consensus as Zeus took command of the heavens. Poseidon laid claim to the oceans and rivers, and Hades himself got the earth. Naturally, he wasn’t happy about it as he was relegated to the position of ‘villain’. He ruled the underworld and people only offered prayers to him once they found the riches beneath the ground whereas his brothers got praise and supplication year round. His wife and queen for one season of the year, one month for each seed eaten is Persephone, his beloved. Other than that, he has no other relations save his brothers and quite possibly all his nephews and nieces in the Grecian pantheon itself. Ruling over the Underworld and the wealth of the earth proved boring so Hades walks the surface every so often under the moniker of Harry Desmond, a jeweler with an eye for quality and a penchant for Faustian deals. Physically, Hades is nothing to make note of. His brothers Zeus and Poseidon are often depicted as muscle-bound beings but he is... gaunt for lack of a better term. His body seemed thin but there’s plenty of strength in his lanky, weed-like frame. He speaks softly but with authority as his dark blue eyes seem to draw you in deeper and deeper as if you were drowning within them. His hair hangs limp and yet looks quite lively as he moves about his business, and he always seems to have a dusty smell about him and his immaculate three-piece suit.

But normally she keeps her appearance to that of a supermodel. Unnaturally beautiful. Blonde curly locks and luscious full lips as well as gorgeous blue eyes. ♦ Brigit ♦ Female ♦ Fire manipulation, healing ♦ abeille ♦ ♦ Being a sun goddess, Brigit looks like the sun personified. She was, actually, born literally radiating sunlight. So, her hair is a bright red but her skin pale, classic of the Celts. She is definitely small and dainty, only standing at about 4'11" (5'0" if you ask her). She appears to be friendly, because she literally is. Brigit radiates energy, being who she is, and tries to warm up every place and person she meets. This makes her too trusting, way too trusting, to the point of even wedding her husband because she hoped it would end the war between their two families (spoiler alert, it didn't). But when she discovers she's been taken advantage of, yikes. She shows absolutely no mercy. She once gave a guy leprosy for not helping another leper heal. To make a long story short, Brigit is kind and sweet and more than willing to go the extra mile to help people, but do not double cross her. Or you'll end up a leper.
♦ Morrigan is truly a wild card. She is cunning, vindictive, manipulative, and strong. She is also wise, protective, helpful, and caring… when she wants to be. She is one of the oldest yet most mysterious deities, with many things falling under her domain: warfare, death, destruction, life, rebirth, sexuality, fertility, omens, sorcery, power, nature, livestock, fate, sovereignty. In her prime, she held much importance -- nowadays, mortals would do better to remember all the ways in which she helped them in the past. Morrigan most often presents herself in the form of a beautiful young maiden, with flowing black hair, dark eyes, and black outfits to contrast her pale celtic complexion. However, she is a shapeshifter and a multifaceted goddess so she may come in many forms, including that of an old crone or a crow. No matter her form, she holds an intimidating air, and her presence commands respect. The only consistent relationship Morrigan has had is an on-again-off-again tryst with Dagda after meeting him at the Unis of Connacht river on Samhain. She has three sons, Gon, Gaim, and Coscar. Whereas the majority of other deities resided in their heavens, Morrigan has always been closely tied to the land. This change hardly affected her personally… except for the fact that now, foreign deities walked alongside the animals and humans with her, encroaching on her affairs. It’s more than a little annoying.

♦ Freyja ♦ Female ♦ Shapeshifting, Perform Magic, and Skills om the battlefield ♦ Venom ♦ ♦ Freyja is known as the goddess of love, beauty, war, wealth, and fertility for all are fought on the same battlefield. Often relates to all things beauty and war like. She is also associated with all forms of divination such as runes and the wheel of fortune. In her golden years, she alongside her brother Freyj ruled all things in nature wild and untamed. She spent her years in Asgard in her land Folksvang ruling over the Valkyrie and riding with them through the night sky. Freyja had a beauty that no matter could resist when she was wearing her necklace, Brisingamen. This beautiful necklace of hers was created by four dwarves who, as repayment, asked that she slept with each of them for a night. Although after many affairs with gods, mortals, and all creature alike, she still loved her husband and when he went missing, Freyja wept tears of gold for him. She transformed herseld to a bird with a magical cloak and set out to find him. When Freyja found him, Od was a wrtxhed sea monster and murdered by the gods. Enraged, she threatened to kill the gods but they placed Od in Valhalla despite not dying a hero. Later they would have two children, Hnoss and Gemesi. This goddess took many gods as her lovers, even the trickster Loki at one point but now she is broadening her choices by going with other goddesses. Freyja is not bound by current standards of human morality. She seeks to obtain what she desires and does not take into account the ants and needs of others. With that being said she can be pretty flirtatious at times. It sort of out of instinct to do so and there is no harm meant out of it. She can also be serious at times when needed. Overall Freyja is a pretty aprochable woman who likes to have a nice chat here and there. She does concern about her beauty from time to time and always has beautiful outfits to complement her features. As the goddess of love and beauty, she looks like what you might expect from her. Freyja often takes the form of a gorgeous model with flowing golden hair and icy blue eyes. Her skin is a lovely porcelain color with full pouty lips and a long neck. Her nose is sort of not large but not too small with a slight upturn at the end. Her outfits compose of bright colors that compliment her body, features, hair, or make-up. She wears what you might expect from a model such as dresses with diamonds as her jewelry. In her purse, she always carries a small knife that could transform into a sword. She keeps it there for safety measures because who knows what can come at you and ruin your make-up.
♦ Jormungandr ♦ Male ♦ Venom saliva, snake transformation ♦ lapochka ♦ ♦ Despite the fact that his name literally means "huge monster" or "giant beast," he actually appears to be quite the opposite. Key word, appears. That isn't to say he is neither of those things, because he is quite literally the world serpent, his snake form being long enough to literally wrap around the entire world and then some. Appearance wise, his human form looks like someone that you can trust. His brown hair sits atop his head in an unruly, curly mess, his complexion pale, and his eyes a striking shade of green. You know, because he's a snake. His sense of style is pretty basic, always opting for the more comfy casual sort of look. Though he seems like the person that you would maybe want to be friends with, his personality is quite the opposite. He isn't really a bad person, per say. To put it simply, he's just salty all the time, and kind of passive aggressive. Aside from that though, at times he can be pretty calm and easy going, but more often than not, that is not the case. He doesn't really have any bad blood with any of the gods, aside from Thor. No one is really sure why though. Maybe its because of that one time he fished him up, or because he's destined to kill him. He just really does not like him. He's kind of iffy too when it comes to Loki - yeah, sure, he's his father, but he also left him, which wasn't really cool. What confuses him the most about this whole situation is him being there, very human, and very much...real. It's his presence there that is confusing him, basically. He must have let go of his tail, of course, otherwise he would not be there, so all chains have been broken. But despite that, the world is still spinning and seems to be very much intact. Which, honestly, is more than a little bit unsettling.
♦ Loki Laufeyjarson ♦ Male, usually ♦ Shapeshifting, Illusions, Fire manipulation ♦ abeille ♦ ♦ Three words can some up the entire existence of Loki: do. not. trust. He would, without a doubt, sacrifice anyone if it was either hilarious to him, or if it was genuinely in his best interest to do so. Seriously, he does not discriminate. That is not to say that he is evil, of course. He isn't. He just knows an opportunity when he sees it. A third of things he does is because it's funny, another third to save himself, and another third because, if we're being entirely honest, he can't handle his wine at all. This, of course, gets him into notorious trouble. That he then, of course, has to fix because out of everyone on Asgard, Loki's strategies work the best. He doesn't just think outside of the box, no. There is no box to begin with, it's not there at all. It seems as though he plans out everything he does in advance, but that's giving him way too much credit. No, he loves to just wing it and see where it takes him, it adds to the fun of things. In addition to this chaotic, wild streak, Loki tops it off with a silver tongue. Oh yes-he is a schmoozer. And he's good at it, too. He's found overtime that flattery is the best way to get what you want, aside from deals, of course. At the beginning of this description, I said not to trust Loki. Good news is it's reciprocated, he doesn't trust anyone either. He's always looking for people as mischievous as he, and is ready to call out anyone who attempts to trick him. The 'do not harm mortals' rule does not apply to him, in his opinion, in the case of this happening. Adding to his charm, Loki has been described in the Edda's as being rather handsome. Not handsome like Thor is, that is to say super jacked and hyper-masculine. No, he's rather tall and lean, standing at about 6'2" and not having the most impressive muscle mass. He does have muscles, of course, they do exist. They're just not as obvious. To enhance his charming ability, he tends to wear nice clothing - button up shirts tucked in with a belt, dress slacks, and dress shoes. A timeless look, he thinks. He's spent a lot of time researching Midgardian fashion, because how he presents himself is his key to manipulation. Loki is also extremely pale, being Norse and all. On this trend of looking extremely European, he has red hair with blue eyes. While he would like to be able to be clean shaven, he tends to sport some stubble (not quite a full beard) in order to hide small, almost impossible to notice scars in the shape of dots all around his mouth. That was from when he may or may not have cut off the Lady Sif's hair, bet his head against some dwarves, lost said bet, and had his lips forcibly sewn together. It wasn't optimal, no obviously not. But the other option was being dead, so some severe pain for a few weeks and then tiny scars vs. actually dying? He would take the former anyday of the week.
♦ Mist ♦ Valkyrie ♦ Female ♦ Flight, Valhalla Spear and Photokinesis ♦ @angelfur ♦ ♦ WIP
♦ Sigyn ♦ Female ♦ Incantation - Fetter, Victory ♦ 🌹 A Rebel Pink Diamond 🌹 ♦ ♦ Sigyn’s life revolves around love and family. Noble and loyal to a fault, she faces the (many) problems brought on by her husband, Loki, with grace, although she is forever wrought with grief over the loss of their sons. One would think she’d get tired of putting up with him but in truth, Sigyn has a child’s heart that adores the mischief of her mate, and she holds a strong commitment to the choices of her heart. While she is not bold or courageous, Sigyn is a stronger woman than many give her credit for, with her strength lying in her gentleness and honor. I mean… it takes a lot of love and strength to stay by your lover’s side, protecting him from the dripping of a snake’s venom while he is bound by your deceased son’s iron entrails, who was killed by your other son after being turned into a wolf as punishment for said lover’s deeds. Likewise, she has a sharper intellect and wit than her docile housewife appearance would suggest. Remember when I said she adores Loki’s mischief? That isn’t to say that she doesn’t have some mischief of her own, although she knows when to be serious (if only to keep up appearances). There is a reason, after all, that she’s the one who sticks by him, and vice-versa. Out of all the aesir, vanir, etc, she is the one with the ability to understand the methods to his madness. While Sigyn is physically dainty, she holds herself with an air of dignity. Her skin is fair and her wavy copper hair falls loosely over her shoulders, nearly no matter how she styled it that day. She tries to be modern with her outfits but her style is traditional, preferring nice dresses that make her look like the 1950s housewife she initially comes across as -- with the occasional exception of the tasteful dress pant and blouse combination. Her jewelry and makeup taste is minimalistic. At the end of the day, she always seems to look perfect -- otherwise, she would never have left the house.

♦ Amelia Barnes ♦ Female ♦ 28 ♦ kai ♦ ♦ Amelia stands at a rather average height, around 5'7/5'8, with long legs and fingers, which her mom kindly called "piano fingers," that made her such a great pianist. She has short, uneven nails which she bites off when she is anxious, which is almost all the time so her nails are constantly stubby. Amelia does not have an hourglass figure, maybe just the bottom half, as she is rather flat chested. Her hair is naturally a dirty blonde, but due to her constantly being in the sun and outdoors, it is quite lighter and a honey blonde shade. Her hair is rather thick, poofy and crazy curly, so she will usually tie it back in a braid, straighten it, or try to tame the mass of curls, usually the first is her go to option. Amelia doesn't really care for makeup or anything like that, so she is often seen barefaced, and her cheeks are constantly a rosy red color, almost like a permanent sunburn. Speaking of her cheeks, Amelia has a dimple in both and the are rather deep, but only appear when smiling or pursing her lips. Thanks to three tedious years of braces, Amelia has straight teeth, and still has to wear a retainer to sleep every night. Amelia's eyes are a hazel color, leaning more toward the green-blue side, with flecks of light brown. Amelia is quite the socialite, and, although she only has a few friends, finds it easy to socialize and talk to strangers. She is kind and caring, and known as the "mom-friend." Amelia is constantly putting other's needs before her own, and taking care of their well-being and assuring their happiness before her as well. This is a bit of a bad thing, as she sometimes forgets to think of her own well-being first, but often her own mother will let her know she's forgetting herself. That being said, Amelia is also a tough-love kinda gal. She will be brutally honest and let you know if you are doing something bad, or if you are in the wrong... in her eyes, at least. All around, Amelia is very invested in her friends happiness and health and is a fierce protector of her loved ones.
♦ Heyliel Spira ♦ Demigod ♦ Male ♦ 24 ♦ Giving mass to light ♦ @brambletoe ♦ ♦ On first glance it's hard to tell what gender he is as his appearance is very androgynous. He has long blond hair that falls just short of the small of his back that is complemented by his blue-green eyes. He stands at 5'10" and has rather pale skin. His frame is leaner than most people. He tends to look at things very analytically and only does something if it helps him. He was born from one of Shachar's trysts with mortals. Of course his mother didn't know that Shachar was a god.
