Marigoldpaw sat beside Daisybug nervously, listening to the strong voices of the leader and deputy, but with each word, she seemed to cower into her pelt even more. The whole idea of them all fighting against a force they didn't know the strength of scared her. She felt selfish when she thought about it, but she didn't want to end up like Frostpaw.

Tumblepaw sat beside his mother and siblings, his face slightly scrunched as he listed to his clanmates bicker about the situation. He didn't dare speak, as he was only recently made an apprentice, and didn't want to start something he couldn't control. However, he was eager to fight, and show just how born of a warrior he was. Thinking to himself, he lifted his chest with silent pride.

The whole idea of them all fighting against a force they didn't know the strength of scared her. She felt selfish when she thought about it, but she didn't want to end up like Frostpaw. Daisybug pressed closer to Marigoldpaw as the leader spoke on. It was unfortunate that this was what the new apprentices face first thing; especially Marigoldpaw, who'd have to help with wounds during the battle. She looked up at Hawkjaw and Skystar with determination and pride. Whether we do it now or later, GroveClan is ready.

"I am a leader; I guide," Skystar replied. "I want to know what all of you think about this. I am not here to ask that you all put your lives at stake right at this very moment. If we want to fight, we will. If we want to build up strength first, we will. Our Clan has suffered a lot, and these cats come to use with no hesitation." After listening to Skystar and Hawkjaw speak, Duskwhisker lashed his tail. "I think we're ready now. Even if we have some weaker cats due to leaf-bare, we still have plenty of healthy warriors, more than that group of rogues has cats in all," he said, ten glanced up at the sky again. "There's not much time to contemplate this. Sunhigh is here."

((howdy)) Sweetie wasn't so sure about that. They could have tried talking or something, but it seemed like every time the rogues and the Clan cats met up they ended up fighting. Maybe they just weren't meant to get along. "I see..." she said, then let out a sigh. Her ears pricked as they got closer to the lake, and they could see the water seeping over the shore. "The lake still hasn't gone down." She wondered what kind of weird Twoleg stuff might be washed up around the territory. βI know. I doubt itβll return to normal in a short time.β Meg said with a sigh. She wondered what the clan would do next, or her own group. She didnβt want to face Rowanheart in a fight, βI could sit it out but thatβd look suspicious to Shadow.β There was a cool gust of wind making her purr, βItβs nice out huh Sweetie.β She said, trying to change to a lighter topic Sweetie felt her face light up again. "Mmhm!" she said, giving her fluffy pelt a shake. The early leaf-bare sun still gave just enough warmth at its peak, before sinking down and growing cold again. She paused, then turned to Meg. "Show me how to hunt!" ((meg and sweetie miss the entire battle staring at insects))

Tracepaw shifted his paws anxiously as the older cats went on talking. His mind flittered to his siblings, who also stood next to their mentors. A battle, on our first day as apprentices? He lifted his eyes to his mentor nervously, βWill we fight?β Asked the cream colored tom, his voiceβs high pitch surprising himself.

Twigpaw twisted around to face Tracepaw. "I hope not!" she whispered to him, the fear in her voice making it sharp and high. "We don't know how to fight!" However, she still looked up at Dovecloud to see her response.
Dovecloud looked nervous as well, her green eyes wide as she stared up at Skystar. Her ear flicked when Tracepaw spoke, and she turned her head to him. "No, I don't think so," she reassured him softly. "Perhaps you lot can help defend the nursery and medicine den." They could learn a simple paw swipe soon enough, right?

Cactusclaw shifted on his paws.It seemed like everyday now there were gatherings of some sort.He yawned. How long since he last slept?Since he laid down to rest?He didn't know. All this looking out and hunting didn't give him much down time.He looked across their temporary camp and saw Softlight with his kits.He padded around behind everyone one and made his way to the brown and white tom."Any idea what this one's about?"He whispered as he settled down behind one of the kits. Softlight blinked, moved from his dazed state and looked over to see Cactusclaw addressing him. He had barely caught what he had said. "Oh...not sure, really," he replied. "The last one was pretty garbled as well...Honestly, I'm usually not sure about whats going on anymore.""Big transitions usually do that."Cactusclaw looked up at the trees and noticed a bird on one of the branches."Looks like the birds are figuring out that they don't have to touch ground."He chuckled before looking back at Softlight."How're the kits coping?"

(Shadow: MEG, STOP LOOKING AT THE ANTS AND FIGHT)
Meg purred, βAlright then. Letβs hunt.β She knew thatβd be easier to teach then fighting so she led Sweetie off to the same clearing. βYou know how to do a basic pounce, you use to hunt for lizards, right? Itβs a bit similar like that.β She looked over to a large tree leaf, βShow me how you usually pounce on that leaf.β

Shadow blinked as sun rays shone through the tattered roof of the abandoned dog kennel. Noticing how close to its peak the light hung in the sky, she heaved herself to her paws. βGrackle.β She snapped, yellow eyes darting around to see where the malicious tom had gone. It was almost time to pay Groveclan a visit.

Rowanheartβs eyes were widened in anxiety, his ears flattening to his head. The ginger tabby shifted his paws uncomfortably, his mind filling with one thought. Meg. The whole of the meeting, Rowanheart had felt heat rising to his pelt, his mind racing quicker with each word. His paws itched to run, to go find her and tell her to stay away. Images of his clan mates locked in ferocious battle with the one cat he had ever loved flashed through his head. A throbbing sensation was beginning to overtake him, and for a moment he closed his eyes to ground himself once more. When he opened his eyes, the ginger tom looked down to his apprentice, praying that he wasnβt paying attention to his mentorβs obvious stress. Tumblepaw seemed nervous as well, though he was less outspoken about it than his siblings. He hadnβt even turned to look at Rowanclaw throughout the whole clan meeting. Good. That way he wonβt suspect anything. βI hope we donβt fight.β He blurted, looking at Dovecloud in disbelief of his own words. Suddenly, Rowanheart rose to his paws

Grackle had finally returned to camp, eager to tell Shadow of his little talk with the medicine cat. He purred uglily as he walked up from behind Shadow, βYou sounds like a dying crow. Clearly this is urgent.β He cackled ((Oh dang I hadnβt realized Grackle hadnβt told shadow yet. Oops)) βDonβt flatter me.β Shadow replied, narrowing her eyes. Grackle smelled of stale water and sand. There was only one place near the kennels that smelled like that. βWhere have you been?β She snapped, padding forward a few paces, her plumy tail lashing. For a cat walking on some thin ice he sure is heavy footed!

Grackle took his time as he sat down, stretching his back and paws. βI met with Groveclanβs medicine cat...β He then proceed to tell Shadow everything about the potential deal. βSo we can either follow our end of the deal or let them die off. Your choice Shadow.β There was a cocky tone in the way he said her name.

Shadow listened attentively as Grackle recalled his nightβs events. At his last comment, the black she-cat cut her eyes annoyedly, saying nothing as she contemplated the situation he had just brought to her. The dark she-cat sat down, eyes glazed in deep thought. βWe need that land.β She replied after moments of silence. Her yellow eyes raised to the dark tom. The malicious light that was always fully evident in his eyes was now a bright glow. Though he probably didnβt care, he knew as well as she did that the rogues were starving. Even she couldnβt remember the last meal she had eaten. There was no way the rag tag group could outsmart trainee clan cats in the broad daylight without some sort of advantage. βHow much more of that poison do you have?β

He thought, his mind reverting to his siblings and mother. His eyes cast once more to Tumblepaw, then to Twigpaw. With a lowered voice, he asked, βShould we start practicing now? What will Mom do?β

βA little less then half but give me a night and Iβll have a full stock by morning. Iβd just need to run out and get the ingredients.β Grackle said. Theyβd used up most of the poison from their previous battle and he was still experimenting with it. He enjoyed the fact that heβd blinded a cat with his claws, he wanted to see how deadly and far he could go with a simple berry soaked paw.

The sun was moving quickly across the sky. Though it was only morning, humidity clung to her pelt promising for a warm, sunny day. Sun high was not far away, and the rogues could waste no time before embarking on their trek to the clanβs makeshift camp. βWe need those herbs before we leave. Today..β

Though it wonβt be that much poison, Shadow. We have to be smart with who gets it.β He scanned the camp, βSo what exactly is your plan Shadow? Ambush?β

Shadow flicked her tail contemptuously, angling her eyes down at the ground. Her brows furrowed. She had not completely thought of a plan, her only thoughts had been to assess Grackle's recount to her. "No." She mewed at last, lifting her head to address him directly. "No, we won't ambush them. Here's what we'll do." The black she-cat immediately flew into a flurry of words on how the rogues would overtake the clan cats. "We're going to be trailing behind you peacefully at first. We are expecting them to give up the land, anyways. However, as soon as they show insubordinance to the deal, we'll advertise our poisoned claws. Not every cat has to actually have the poison on their claws. No, we'll let the cats Casper brings along have some purple-colored berry juice on their claws and our main cats will be equipped." She stopped, looking Grackle in the eyes with fierce determination and excitement. "Then, if things aren't going our way, we'll fight. We'll be in control of the situation, not the clan cats. We'll leave with that land."

"I'm scared," she admitted quietly, gazing down at the ground as they walked. She had no idea what to do if someone attacked her! What if someone got really hurt? Or killed?
