Paintpaw slowly lifted her head up, blinking at Robinwhisper. Once her eyes adjusted to the light seeping through the den entrance, she noticed it was her mentor. "Good morning," she mumbled. She prodded her denmate to wake him, but he barely stirred. "He might be too tired to come along..." she murmured, turning back to the warrior. "I think he may have gone on a late patrol last night. He snored all night." The young cat got to her paws and shook her pelt. "Do you want me to try to wake him again?" she asked.

Bewildered at her own eagerness to get the apprentices awake, Robinwhisper stared down at the sleepy Paintpaw. She hadn't thought of the tom being out late the night before, since she herself hadn't been on night patrol in about a moon. "Oh just let him sleep, Dreamwave didn't make it seem imperative he come with us anyway." She padded out of the den swiftly, bounding up to her mother, "What's Bluepool up to? I never heard her leave the den this morning but it seems that she had been gone hours before I got up. Her nest was cold." She mewed quietly, careful not to make too much a fuss of her sister's whereabouts since most of the clan wasn't amused by her affinity for the river.

She mewed quietly, careful not to make too much a fuss of her sister's whereabouts since most of the clan wasn't amused by her affinity for the river. The she-cat sighed slightly and shook her head. "She must be out, doing her regular business again, if you'd call it that." Dreamwave was obviously a little upset that her other daughter decided to be irresponsible again today, going alone to the river most likely. "If you see her, please let her know that she really needs to discontinue with her bad habit. She needs to realize she's a warrior these days, and she has to function with her clanmates. Honestly, if she doesn't come back with a huge trout today, I'll have her tail." She nodded to Paintpaw silently as the apprentice approached them.

Robinwhisper nodded silently, taking Paintpaw's arrival as a welcomed reprieve from fretting over her sister's obsession. "Okay Paintpaw, I figured today we could hunt near whispering trees as we haven't seen much prey much nearer to the camp than that." She mewed assuredly, flicking her tail toward the direction of the camp entrance. "If that's alright with you, Dreamweaver." She added, notes of reverence creeping into her voice.

The apprentice looked at Dreamwave, as the older warrior nodded approvingly and lead the way towards the exit from the camp. Paintpaw slowly followed after her, talking towards Robinwhisper. "Have we been low on prey?" she asked her mentor, a worried expression on her fluffy face. She silently regretted taking the mouse she enjoyed last night, hoping Jasminefoot had had enough to eat. She also wondered if Flightpaw had seen much prey the night before, her thoughts going further back to other patrols, curious if they'd caught anything good recently.

Looking down at her fluffy apprentice and reading her expression, Robinwhisper couldn't help but feel the weight of her question sink to the bottom of her stomach. It was leaf-fall, and dropping temperatures meant prey wouldn't be out in the open much longer. "All I can say is that we have to change our mindsets from being used to the abundance of Greenleaf." She mewed bluntly. She couldn't help but worry about the safety of the clan in the coming months, and was curious if the medicine cat was up-to-date on the herbs necessary for curing greencough and whitecough.

(( beetlewing: local young man just trying his best :,) ))
Beetlewing padded back to camp, a squirrel in his small jaws. It was a bit embarrassing the critter was barely smaller than he was, but he tried ignoring it as it dragged awkwardly between his paws. The glossy black tom slipped through the camp entrance, narrowing his large eyes as the sunlight met him again. He made his way to the fresh kill pile and dropped off his kill, huffing after a long day of tracking and stalking.

Paintpaw tried her best to look slightly less worried, but the young cat was not very good at doing so. Being 8 moons, she had never witnessed a Leafbare season, and from what Loudstep had previously told her, it's only cold, dreary, and brings bad things like sickness and hunger. She wondered if her bones would also ache like his? She padded alongside her mentor, still lost in her thoughts as they headed towards Whispering Trees in search of some prey for their Clan.

Dreamwave paused and looked back behind her at Robinwhisper and Paintpaw. "Here's a good place to split, I think," she mewed. "Robinwhisper, take your time with Paintpaw and do your best to get as much prey as you can. Meet back here when you think you've found enough, I'll catch up or be here when you return. Loudstep and Jasminefoot are sure to be hungry before sun-high." She turned back, padding off further into the trees. "I trust you'll do well!" she called back harmoniously.

[Lmao poor Beetlewing]
Softlight moved away from his guard post near the camp entrance, his shoulders especially cold. He felt like a bird as he tried to shuffle his pelt forward, cold from the night's watch. He noticed Beetlewing padding away from the kill pile. He blinked sleepily and called out to him. "Hey, Beetlewing. How was prey out there this morning?" he asked, slowly approaching the other tom. He slightly knew the tom's tendencies, and being the soft-hearted cat he was, he tried his best to get along.

Jasminefoot nosed a few patches of moss against the nursery walls, having seen the other warriors reinforcing den walls in a similar fashion. Her barrel-shaped flank made the she-cat unbalanced, not used to having so much weight on her stomach. After propping some more patches up on open holes on the den, she sat back down with a big tired sigh. "My my...little rascals heavy," she purred to herself, licking her swollen belly.

"Okay, we'll see you back at camp!" Robinwhisper called after her mother, watching her volume so as to not scare whatever prey there was lingering about. Raising her muzzle to the air and sniffing loudly, the smell of squirrel immediately flooded her senses. She lowered her haunches and crouched low, beckoning with her tail for Paintpaw to do the same. "Tell me what you smell," she demanded in a whisper when Paintpaw had lowered herself. Her eyes gleamed at the thought of watching her apprentice catch a huge squirrel for the fresh-kill pile.

Beetlewing's ears flicked around towards Softlight's voice, his head following soon after. Seeing the tom approach, he got back up to his paws and nodded vigorously. "Oh yes! Uh, very uh, very well!" he reported with his usual stammers, tail flicking around behind him. "Not much...uh..but I found what I found!"

The young she-cat had carefully watched Robinwhisper and mimicked her form. She parted her jaws, eyes narrowed as she tried to figure exactly what she was smelling. "Hmm... squirrel, some birds... maybe a rabbit...?" she mewed, glancing at Robinwhisper, hoping she was right.

Softlight nodded. "Yep, sounds good! I'm glad to see that someone at least was out hunting this morning before it got too late! Bluepool left early, but she's always doing her own thing... Not commonly much help... but don't tell her I said that," he whispered finally. "I haven't been out hunting myself much lately, just some patrols and guarding I guess these days." The young tom shrugged as if to say 'oh well, it's something'.

Robinwhisper surpressed a purr. Her young apprentice showed promising signs of being a great hunter, and Paintpaw's sense of smell at 8 moons was much more developed than her own at 30 moons. "Excellent, now focus on the one nearest to us, and then try to see what you are smelling." She whispered, reminding herself all the while to stay calm. It was easy for her to get overly excited in situations that required the smallest amount of patience. She gazed up into a tree not far to the right of the pair and caught a glimpse of a tawny, scraggly tail of a squirrel fidgeting among the low-hanging branches.

Beetlewing nodded as Softlight spoke, looking up at the tom. He wondered if Softlight had seen anything interesting or alerting during his time on guard. He recalled having found something important *himself* he needed to report back to camp on his trip, but what was it...? A sight? A sound? A smell? Oh ratdung, what was it?! Beetlewing then noticed he hadn't heard a thing that Softlight had said. Oops. "Oh uh, yeah, heh, right," he nodded sheepishly, hoping it would be an appropriate response to whatever the warrior had been talking about. "I, found something during patrol that I, needed to talk about.. Something uh, important? Maybe?" The way the small tom talked always sounded like he was thinking aloud, not necessarily communicating directly TO someone, but in general.

Paintpaw tried her best to focus on what was nearest, but she was unable to pinpoint it. She didn't move for several heartbeats, but what caught her attention was a slight noise. She noticed a squirrel in a tree near them, and moved slowly towards it. From the ground, it looked like it was slightly occupied. She turned carefully to look at Robinwhisper, her gaze asking for permission to go after it.
