(JUST to clarify; I probably won't be the one answering questions, I have a few questions that I need answered, and anyone else can post questions in here, too, so we can all get ideas and answers from people that really know what they're doing. lol!)
So I've been learning how to use stuff like Gimp and Krita (Krita has been a bit stressful since I don't know many people that use it) but before that I was using Paint (arg... that was a painful time in art for me. lol). Most of the time that I was using Microsoft Paint I was just trying to manipulate it into doing what I wanted it to do using the curve tools. I've figured out how to use Gimp to create pretty decent backgrounds and I've created a total of ONE thing using it. Trying to draw with a mouse is hopeless, though, so I draw on paper first, then transfer to Gimp and add color and background. I'm wondering if it's really even realistic to try and get into art without a drawing tablet or really nice drawing pencils, and which one would be suggested for getting started in cartoons and backgrounds. I have a crazy collection of gel pens and a bunch of low-quality colored pencils lying around, and I've gotten pretty good at the pencil (except I can't seem to draw eyes, so most of my drawings don't include those.) Would those work for getting started in drawing characters, or do I really need to get the apple pen with an Ipad, nice art tools, or drawing tablet?
(oof. Sorry, that was a lot of questions and information that I just kind of dumped onto the page. It's been on my mind for a while, now)

Of course it’s worth getting into art without all that fancy stuff! So many professional artist start with just pencil and paper it would amaze you, don’t feel overwhelmed when you see/hear about all the fancy tools available! Practice with what you have for now, and even if you don’t get your hands on any fancy tech in the future - you will be talented with what you have! I’d say it’s definitely something you should play around with, and you could even try finding some inspiration by looking up art made with the materials you have handy. Just remember, not all artist use that expensive stuff! personally I ended up preferring pencil on paper even though I have a tablet available, just take some time experimenting and keep at it!
