After a heartbeat or two a wood mouse appeared, nose twitching and whiskers flared. It was a couple of foxlengths away, and it was a wonder they hadn't scared it off with the noise they'd been making. Perhaps it was deaf? The tiny animal hadn't spotted the patrol, and luckily the winds were blowing their way. Slinking into an even lower crouch, he carefully slithered towards the mouse, ears pricked and mouth agape to taste the wind. Once he was within range, he lowered uuntil his chest brushed the ground below, hindlegs bunch to leap. The mouse seemed to realize it was in danger, but by then it was too late. With a powerful leap into the air, Shrewwhisker landed directly on top of his prey. It tried to escape before he could deliver the killing blow and nearly did, scampering through his forepaws, but a flick of his foot sent the creature right into reach of his open maw. It died with a shrill squeak punctuating the air.

(I'm back for a last post before I go) Honeyrose suddenly jumped into the bushes and there was a shriek. Honeyrose came out with a plump shrew. "That shriek must have sent the lapwings flying!" Honeyrose said.

"Good job!" The tabby congratulated the sleepy she-cat with genuine warmth. She was all worried about being too tired to hunt.. silly. He dropped his catch underneath a nearby shrug and scraped fresh soil and leaves over it to preserve it, internally promising to come back for it later. "Maybe we should split up and look for prey as pairs? All four of us are pretty loud." His gaze rested on Fawnspot expectingly, tail tip twitching hopefully.

(Sorry about poofing yesterday. I'm not going to be on today, or tomorrow. Wrestling night with friends tonight, then my guy and I are on an adventure tomorrow with the dog.)
Fawnspot congratulated the both of them on their splendid catches. Though her stomach still growled for a squirrel, the mouse and shrew both made her mouth water. Looking over at Shrewwhisker she tilted her head, thinking about the suggestion. It would be better to split up and cover more ground. Even though newleaf was in full swing and the prey was plenty, there was no sense in wasting any fresh-kill for the clan. "I agree," she eventually mewed "it will save time and cover more ground." She felt Shrewwhiskers gaze lying steadily on her. "Shrewwhisker, want to go further up the stream and into the trees with me? I have a taste for squirrel and I know just the place to catch them! Nice and plump!"

(Wrestling sounds pretty neat tbh, but okay. Talk to you then! Also, @ hopestorm, isn't that Mapleshade's description from the wiki?)
Shrewwhisker warmed at the praise, always happy to receive attention from any of his clanmates.. although the attention of a female was special. Squirrels sounded wonderful; he shook himself to gather his thoughts and provide a decent response. "Squirrels are pretty fast, but if you know a spot, why not?" His claws sheathed and unsheathed, toes flexing in anticipation of sinking into one of the long bodied and bushy tailed critters. Even if they were more difficult to catch, they were definitely worth the challenge.
Name: Dewpaw Age: 8 moons Gender: She-cat Rank: Apprentice Appearance: A fawn tabby and white she-cat with neat paws and gentle features. A pair of narrow gold eyes lighten her face, clean, spotless white masking most of her face and body, breaking up the light golden brown tabby patches along her body. Her fur is medium length, thick, and provides ample protection from the chill, although when it rains it gets bogged down quickly. She is averagely sized for an apprentice with a light frame; due to her small paws she is quite good at hunting, although easily knocked off balance. Her name comes from the way her patches appear to cling to her frame, like dew on a blade of grass. Personality: Briarpaw is sweet and very caring towards her clanmates; she loves helping out the queens and elders, and looks forward to the day she becomes a mother herself. With little family in the clan she wants to build her own. Right now, however, she is focused on becoming a good warrior and taking care of her clan. She is a quick thinker and quick on her paws, and likes to get things done as soon as possible. Her biggest flaw is her gullibility; she tends to trust every cat she meets, and while this makes her a good friend, it is easy for her to be tricked. Relations: n/a (does anyone want to rp a family member?) Mentor: (Does anyone want to be her mentor?)

(I'm back. The wrestling show was amazing. It was an indie group called Kaiju Attack Wrestling. It was so fun!)
Fawnspot gave a small bounce in anticipation. "Come on then!" she called as she dashed away further up the stream. Once she got a decent way up she started to veer the two cats course away from the cool stream and into the woods nearby.

(That's great!)
The agile tom kept pace with her easily, tail streaming behind him, always just enough behind to give her ample room but not too far to lose sight. A bird cried out at their run, but by the time they forked into the forest they were long past it. Sunshine dappled the forest floor and insects hummed and churred in the distance. Perfect for attracting birds, he thought, know the feathered avians enjoyed eating the singing insects they could hear. A gentle breeze sent the trees to swaying, causing shadows to dance and disappear as the branches shifted from side to side. This place must be perfect for squirrels. He slowed to a stroll, ears pricked and jaws cracked open, ready to find some of the bushy tailed dinners running around.

Fawnspot paused to lift her head into the air with parted jaws. Drinking in the warm smells of the forest, she smelled the variety of prey that the forest surrounding their home had to offer. She scanned threw the scent of mice, rabbits, a variety of birds, until she finally settled on the scent that she had been searching for. With a flick of her ears she motioned to the right, where the scent was coming from. The she-cat crouched down low, moving forward slowly and carefully. Soon she bunched her legs up under her, ready for a jumping start. "Fox-dung!" she spat as she felt the wind switch direction, carrying her own scent to where the creature rested on the search for nuts on the forest floor. She sprang, hoping the catch it regardless. She barely made it to where to squirrel was. Her claws raked through its furry tail, missing it. With a hiss she was up the tree with it, but lost it in the lower branches.

He snorted at her missing her catch, but her rapid ascent up the tree worried him. Shrewwhisker quickly trotted to the base of the tree, staring up into the branches with wide eyes. "Hey, be careful up there! A branch may break!" He also wasn't too sure how good of a climber she was, and he wasn't sure if he could help her if she had trouble getting down. His tailtip twitched nervously, whiskers flared and ears up, listening for the tell-tale sound of cracking limbs. Squirrels were tasty, but not worth a broken bone.

Fawnspot crept along the branches, being careful where she placed her paws. She knew her clanmate was right and that she should be careful. But the tree should be strong this time of year. She peered down beneath her, trying to spot Shrewwhisker through the budding leaves and flowers that dotted the branches around her. With a nearly silent purr she spotted him below. She hadn't climbed up too high, and was in a perfect position. She bunched up her haunches, and gave a mighty leap down, landing nimbly next to her hunting companion.

(Yeye I get it. It isn't a problem hopestorm. At least, I don't think it is. I was just wondering.) The thump of his clanmate hitting the earthen floor made him jump, claws shooting out to cling to the ground as he let out a startled mrrow? As he realized it was just Fawnspot he almost immediately relaxed, a playful light springing into his eyes. "Oh I bet you think that's funny, huh?" His teasing voice betrayed his intent as he moved to pounce on her, intending to tussle with the younger warrior like they were apprentices again. (ah yes. young love.)

(I'm sure the description shouldn't be an issue. There are tons of torties out there! It should be no problem I would imagine, hopestorm.)
"I don't just think it, I know it was!" Fawnspot interjected "You should have seen the way you jumped! It was like you saw a badger barreling towards you!" She raised a sheathed paw at his advance, batting at his ear as she jumped to the side. She puffed out her fur and narrowed her eyes "You better watch out! I'm one mean cat." she joked, moving her body down into a play crouch.

His ear was flipped inside out at her touch, probably causing his appearance to be completely ridiculous. He also presumed a crouch, tail flicking playfully, a purr rumbling in his chest. "If you're mean then I'm downright hateful," Shrewwhisker laughed, knowing that neither statement made was true. Before he could retaliate a rustle caught his attention and he snapped to alert behavior, staring at the source of the sound. Another squirrel! It was so intent on foraging it somehow hadn't noticed the two warriors; it was several foxlengths away. He held his paw up to his muzzle, nodding his head in its direction. Here was her chance to redeem herself as far as being a professional squirrel hunter went.

Fawnspot held back a purr of laughter. Being out with Shrewwhisker was proving to be a fun time that she hadn't fully anticipated from the rule stickler. Before she could let out a hiss and pounce, he silenced the pair. Following his gaze, she spotted the creature. Her stomach growled and she got even lower than she previously was. Glancing over at the tom, she noticed him allowing her the hunt. With an appreciative nod, she started forward. Paw step by paw step she closed the gap between the two. As she prepared for the kill she sent a silent thanks to Starclan for keeping the wind towards her this time around. Taking a moment to assess her task, she pounced. The squirrel had hardly any time to even take notice of her before it was over. She held her head high, the catch in her jaws.

"Good job!" Shrewwhisker exclaimed, happy that his clanmate was more successful in her second attempt. "Say we both snag another prey item apiece and head back to camp?" Ahead the sun was getting close to its zenith, signaling how much time they'd spent hunting already. Exploring the territory had been fun, but very time consuming. He would suggest they head back now but if both of them had a piece of prey it would be a tad silly to return only to eat something that was already there; they should at least bring back more than they consume.

Fawnspot nodded in agreement, the fresh-kill by her feet. "Shall we see what we can find on the way back?" she proposed. Her paws were starting to get tired after a long venture out. She also had yet to eat that day. But the two were on a hunting patrol, and she would need to feed the clan before sinking her teeth into anything herself. "I thought I smelled a few mice trails a little back that way" she added on, flicking her ears in the direction which they had come.

Returning to camp would be nice. "We can stop and pick up the mouse I buried as well." This time Shrewwhisker took the lead, flicking her nose with his tail as he slipped by. Their scent trail was strong and he swerved to pad parallel to it, worried the stench would alarm prey. He anticipated catching something bigger than her squirrel, perhaps a fatter squirrel or a pigeon, just to show off but he could settle for less. Anything would do. His stomach rumbled, reminding him that he himself was hungry, and he picked up his pace. He snuffled along the ground as he went, tail in the air, eager to find the next catch first.

She took pace behind him, scanning the area as they went. She was keeping a keen nose for any sign of a fresh scent trail. Suddenly she stopped without saying anything and stared to an area off to their left. A small clearing filled with flowers and buds that gave her clan its name. With a smile and sat and looked for just a moment, taking in the sight and smell. Overall, she just wanted a moment to enjoy the day. She purred as she felt the sun warm on her fur, then she picked up a scent, mouse. Taking one last glance at the beautiful clearing, she crouched low and headed for the right where the smell was coming from. In a flash she had a mouse to add to her catch.

He felt slightly frustrated that she found one first, but his luck improved as he spotted a fat robin pulling at a worm or something or other in the near distance. Shrewwhisker dropped to a careful crouch, keeping his tail low, and slithered closer to the bird. Before it had even noticed him his claws were sinking into its warm body, teeth snicking and a fresh piece of prety to add to the pile at home. Carrying it proudly, feathers tickling his nose, he returned to Fawnspot's side and made way towards the mouse from earlier.

"Awesome catch, Shrewwhisker." she congratulated as he returned with the bird. "The bug didn't scare you this time did it?" she teased kindheartedly. She bent down to pick up both the mouse and squirrel before following him to his earlier catch. The breeze ruffled her fur and she appreciated the cooling effect it had. The stream had come into view to lead them back home to the camp. "Come on, I'm starving!" she called, racing on ahead.

"Pft, the millipede was a monster," He responded lightheartedly, an inward shudder ensuing as he recalled the 'monster'. The tom quickly picked up the mouse from earlier and darted after her, energy zinging in his paws, making him feel as though he were gliding through the territory versus the hefty run there were doing instead. It wasn't long before they reached camp and he attempted to shoulder past her to beat her in their little race, snorting at his attempt.

The run felt good as her and the tom raced back to camp. Both of their mouths full of prey and they moved forward in leaps and bounds. As they grew nearer, Fawnspot dropped her catch right outside of the camp entrance and jumped up onto his back all in the same bound calling, "I will not accept defeat!" Her paws wrapped around his chest in a type of bear hug, eager to hold him back so that he couldn't win.

He reared in response, hindlegs unable to support the pair of them and he toppled over, dropping the prey as his mouth opened to let out a cry of surprise. Shrewwhisker made sure to land on his side, landing softly on some shrubby plant that cushioned his fall. He thrashed, attempting to gain the upper paw and pin her with his greater weight. They were bound to scare off every animal in their territory, but he didn't particularly care.

She held on tight, refusing to be thrown off. As gently as if she were picking up a kit she bit into his scruff. "I got you now!" she muffled out around a mouthful of fur. His movements eventually got to her. As he managed to roll onto her she let out an undignified squeak and began to swat her front paws at whatever she could manage to hit.
