Trying again because I got literally nowhere last time and i've got some new thoughts lol;;;
Whilst dabbling in clan creation both in the forums and on a discord server, I started thinking about a whole new territory that I haven't use and in all honesty I haven't seen a lot of it in other clans; A Swamp/Marshland themed territory. Before going through with it however... I want to know it wont be another clan with only three or four people being the only ones to add cats to the clan -- it'd be more fun if we had a larger number of individual members so I admit I want to gauge interest before going for it.
However there are a few things I really want to see happen if this comes to fruition, important aspects from an OOC perspective.
Primarily, Relationships which is something that I actually value a lot and have a hard time building IC due to a lack of interest of other members in doing that with a stranger such as me. For this clan, I'd like to emphasize this and had an idea for accepting a certain number of cat's willing to act as the base cats, and then all other members having to be related to at least one of these cats(played by someone other than themselves) in some way.
Whether that is Mother/child, Sibling/sibling, Mother/father, Mates, ect.. Although, it doesn't HAVE to be that direct, something like cousins or an Aunt and Niece, Grandfather and grandson, ect relationships would also be acceptable and just as encouraged. I really want this clan to feel organic and I feel the acknowledgement of these roles will add to to the story IC, both backstory and present. It also leads into my next object of importance...
The roleplaying, or rather the fact people will post openings but are reluctant to reply to other openings or put their characters in situations where they can interact. This isn't an always thing, as is evident by the fact rp's do happen, but It's something I see more common when people that are new to more established clans are trying to get engaged with more veteran members. This is more a foot note than a huge must build around point but important nonetheless. To aid in this, and OOC thread would be made so people could talk and get to know each other a little as for some people that helps get rid of nervousness.
I wont have a SPECIFIC skill level requirement but I'm thinking the perference will be 3+ lines.
Now for the actual fun part, the clan. Aside from the briefly touch concept of a marsh-like setting, I wanted to fiddle with the set up of the clan, offering more positions in some and creating new "sub" ranks. I also want to add more activity to the clan in hopes of building more roleplaying opportunities beyond hunting and patroling.
The concept for the cats themselves is
-- Though bearing a warriors code of their own, ___clan cat's have a generally more accepting behavior, even accepting Loner's, kittypets, and rogues into their clan -- This may be due to their first leader's heritage as a cat bearing a half-clan, half loner heritage. They rarely have intent to kill cats and may even sit down and talk to a loner before asking them to leave, join or chasing them off -- however they will respond with aggression like any cat if met with a threat. To this end, Loner's and such might be treated almost in a friendly manner and even receive offers to join the clan if they wish to remain in the territory.
(This does not mean more cold and aggressive cats are not within or allowed within the clan, nor does it mean no clan member may ever show hostility or chase non-clan cats off. This is merely a basic summary for most clan cats.)
Currently the changes to the rank system I have in mind are;
Medicine cat; This is where things change, a bit, instead of a single medicine cat, the clan can have up to two medicine cats and each may have an apprentice -- this means the clan can have four healers all together. The second medicine cat will often begin as an apprentice to the first and once they've received their medicine cat name name will become the second full-fledge medicine cat. The medicine cat apprentices, upon obtaining their name will remain under the apprentice status until the death of one of the current medicine cats where they will then be able to conctinue the cycle of mentoring a new medicine cat apprentice. Should a medicine cat die before their apprentice has reached the status of a full fledged medicine cat, they will continue to train under the remaining medicine cat.
Elders; Instead of just shoving the old cats off to wither and die, only acting as a punishment for apprentices, I wanted to give them more presence in the clan. They will act as a sort of advisory council for the leader and deputy. Though their word isn't law, their words may aid or inspire the deputy and Leader's decision making process. Thus adding a cushion to fall back on if the higher ranks bear uncertainty.
Warriors; As said above I wanted to add subclans, giving cats certain skill over other cats. The Warriors are split into; Hunters, Fighters, Trackers, and Runners (Although runners are something of a rank in their own).
Hunters, as the name implied, are the warriors most skilled in hunting. They're main duties that take priority will be hunting. As such, you will rarely find a hunter on patrol unless the clan is short-handed.
Fighters are the cat's trained primarily in fighting, these cats are usually large and muscular, though smaller cats are also accepted if they show talent in combat over other duties as many fighting styles are accepted. These cats will typically be the cats to go on patrol alongside trackers.
Trackers track, if there is a scent that needs investigating such as a threat or they're looking for a lost cat, they're sent on the trail, often accompanied by Fighters to deal with any trouble. Trackers are also trained heavily in memorizing the territory as they must be the most aware of where they are headed to prevent unecessary harm to themselves and other cats. These cats have the strongest noses and will often join patrols alongside fighters. They also tend to be the stealthiest of cats.
Runners are the swiftest cats, often lean and long-legged. Like the Trackers, their training includes intense memorizing of the territory, although for them it's mainly so they know the quickest ways to get from point a to point be. Runners often act as scouts and messengers as they can quickly. Only a few runners are ever trained at one time, Usually at most two fully trained runners at one time, and only rarely receive apprentices. They are considered valuable but having too many weakens the clan, one usually accompanies the patrol whilst the other remains in the camp -- the only other significant outings being apprenticeship in which the runner will take their apprentice to begin learning the territory inside and out.
Apprentices; Unlike normally, New apprentices and Senior apprentices are considered differently by age as a cat wont immediately know what warrior subclass they will fit under. Cats for 6-8 moons will be considered initiate apprentices, they have no specific mentor and will likely be passed between Warriors(often in groups with other initiates) to learn the varying warrior basics, as well as testing their talent in each subclass under a warrior of that subclass. These warriors will then discuss with the leader what they observed and it will be their decision to decide what kind of apprentice the initiate will become. during the 8-12 moon mark on average, an apprentice will have received either Hunter, Fighter, Tracker, or in rare instances Runner as their subclass and will begin training exclusively under a mentor of that subclass.
Additional thoughts;
-- Freetime; Despite a sense of free time not being heavily explored canonically (Save for sharing tongues), cats should have plenty of time given to act freely -- such as time to simply take a walk, socialize and hang out with friends (within the clan of course). Maybe this will include a special place inside or nearby the camp where natural "cat toys"(Such as Pinecones, larger bones, feathers, so on and so forth) are stored/Warriors can go when off-duty. Encouraging hobbies such as collecting?
-- Training and Sparring; Training does not stop at becoming a warrior, the training area is split into two sections, the lower section for apprentices in training whilst a higher area acts as a place for warriors to test their skill in training and sparring with one another work out new moves, learn to combat their own weaknesses, and even simply bond over mutual goals in combative training.
-- Perhaps a scenic area where mates may go to be alone for a time?
-- I was also considering some Random generated illness during leaf-bare, though it will be your choice if your cat gets sicker or dies.
Beyond this I still lack a story(though I've got some bare basics) and need to do my research on Marshy territory(both for the territory itself as well as prey and dangers and such) so there is time before I go through with it if I do. I'd like to get some help on fleshing it out from this point, as well as any help with Coding (Maybe with scrollbars?) and graphics, but most importantly I'd like to know if anyone would be interested in this in general since I don't want to go hog wild on something only I'd enjoy.
I'm 100% up to suggestions as well as I'd like to add a little flair to the clan whilst keeping it true to the heart of the books in the sense of an organize community of cats.
I'd also need to know who would be cool with acting as starter cats should I garner enough interest as I don't want them to all be from the same people (Such as one person making five "starter" cats so to speak while someone else makes another six.) nor do I want to make ALL of them myself as that'd feel a bit unfair for others.
I'd also like some suggestions on what to NAME the clan 8'D
