"Save all your pent up energy and anger for when he gets back. I have a feeling you're going to make him regret his little outing." Merve said, standing up and brushing off her pants. "I'm going to make sure his lunch is still warm for when he does finally return."

"You could come join me if you'd like." Merve took the tray except for what Celena was still eating and went back through the long palace hallways to the kitchens. She started pouring out drinks for all the other cooks and servants as they waited and sat around, dinner not being for another few hours.

Serhan looked over at Adelaide as he made the exchange, expecting her to interrupt and being a bit surprised when she didn't. He smiled a bit to himself, thinking that she wasn't going to treat him like he couldn't do everything himself. "There's nothing else you want here?" He asked, turning to gaze back down the road towards the palace. "Maybe I've been gone for too long. I guess this was a bit irresponsible. Still it would be nice to stay out until late, that'll have to be another time." There were a few guards on the dock mixed in with a bunch of workers pulling stuff off of the boats. The port was being crowded with several ships returning for the evening, but only one of them was a military vessel. "That would seem suspicious to the people. Even if they aren't aware you're looking for the king, royal guards running around the city would cause tension among the people towards the king." Merve said. "It wouldn't look good for us at the palace." (I posted Inky)

She started pouring out drinks for all the other cooks and servants as they waited and sat around, dinner not being for another few hours. Celena smiled and jumped up with her bowl of food in her hands. She followed closely behind Merve while eating her food, "This is nice!" She said with a mouth full of food, "Also, great food!" She watched as Merve poured some drinks for others and Celena sat down at the edge of the table.

Merve passed a cup to Celena and filled it with some of the wine. "We're just enjoying our time while we wait. We're thinking of telling some stories, you're free to go first if you have any." She set the pitcher of wine on the table and sat back on her stool.
The military ship stopped in the port and one of the officers got off to go speak to the dockmaster, nodding to a couple of the guards. Most of the rest of the navy's crew stayed on board, as if it was just a brief stop to pick up mail and news. She could hear the voices of the officer and the dockmaster arguing from where she stood, but couldn't hear their words.

"Sounds like you've lived a pretty sheltered life for a military girl. Never been on any big expeditions?" Merve asked sitting back on her stool and crossing her legs.

"Well, you were just having a bit of fun. It's okay to irresponsible sometimes." She smiled a bit, then held out her hands. "Would you like me to carry the produce?" She asked him before adding. "Not that, not that I don't think you can. I'm just offering." Adelaide then clasped her hands behind her back, smiling a little sheepishly as she rocked back on her heels.

"I think I'll keep carrying them." Serhan replied, looking back towards the palace and started walking back to it. "Do you live within the palace walls or...?" he asked her, not knowing.

Adelaide nodded then followed him as they began to head back to the palace, holding her hands behind her back. βI do! I was actually born in the palace. My mother was a servant too, but she died shortly after I was born and no one knew who my father was.β She told him, looking up to Serhan.

"It's not hard to believe in situations like that, that the father was one of the palace guards." Serhan said. Merve told him all the rumours that went around the palace before he became King, he was disappointed now that she didn't really talk to him much since he moved into the palace, but he understood that it was best he keep out of the hidden drama while he had so much more to worry about. He seemed unfocused while he was off in his thoughts for a moment. "Do you know a lot of what goes on around the palace?" He asked.

Adelaide couldn't help but chuckle a little, nodding. "I've heard a lot of rumors about who he might be, but I guess it doesn't really matter anymore. He's probably dead." She said with a shrug, the other servants were her family, they were the ones who really raised her. While it would've been nice to have her mother around while she was growing up, or to know who her father was and have it around, it was silly to waste time dreaming about those things. At the mention of Sehan's question, Adelaide tried to contain her excited grin. "Merve and I like to gossip whenever we're in the kitchen together." She told him before adding. "But it's none of my business to really say any of it." Though she did glance at him out of the corner of her eye. "Though, maybe I can make an exception this time once?"

"None of the royal guard currently seem old enough to have been your father anyway..." Serhan said. "Don't they get replaced every twenty years? I heard royal guards retire young." He asked, taking the opportunity to learn more about the palace from her. "Please do make an exception." He said rather formally. "I want to know all the goings on in the palace as well as the kingdom. Even if I'm not a great king, I don't want to be a blind one." He added metaphorically. He walked beside her, instinctually with his hands behind his back then remembered to try walking more like a commoner.

Adelaide had to think for a minute before nodding. "That sounds about right." She told him, watching how he kept fidgeting with his arms. Thinking for a quick moment, she wrapped her arms around his and linked their elbows, just so he didn't have to worry about how to hold himself as they walked through the town, almost back on the path to the palace. The bold action from her did cause a soft blush to form on her cheek, but she figured if she didn't address then it wouldn't be a big deal. "Alright, but you have to promise not to reveal that you're getting information from me. I could get in a lot of trouble, Serhan." She said in a quiet tone, knowing that if it got back that she was telling secrets that act alone could be punishable by death, or lose or job at the very least if someone were feeling generous.

Serhan looked a bit surprised when she linked their arms but he didn't say anything about it, continuing on their conversation. "My lips are sealed. I guess I'm the one everyone wants to hide these secrets from, it'd be unbecoming for me to spread rumours around. If you got into trouble it would go by me first, I think that's something I'll discuss with the advisors when I get back to the palace. I need to make sure all final decisions are mine. I don't want my advisors dishing out punishments if it hasn't been put by me first." Serhan went on. "Anyway... you were saying?" He muttered a little sheepishly when he realized he'd gone on a tangent. But he did fully expect that his position and power would be undermined the same advisors and members of the court sworn to help him. He was aware how they saw him as just some noble's child and would take matters into their own hands.

"It's not so much that they're trying to hide things from you, it's that talk around the palace causes trouble. And, sometimes the rumors will get those higher up in trouble." Adelaide said, glancing at Serhan once more before quickly looking straight ahead, watching as the town ended and their nature walk began. Finally out of the town, Adelaide relaxed a little more. "There's not much scandal going on right now that I can think of. I heard you already have a wife lined up for you, some princess or another. But I believe we've already talked about that" Adelaide recalled an earlier conversation between the both of them about marriage and love. "Celena comes around the kitchens a lot while Merve is working, could be a coincidence but..." Adelaide shrugs, a hint of a smirk on her lips. With her free hand she taps her chin, thinking. "Oh! Some men in the military are about to be discharged to the South. There's rumors about a rebellion starting, though I don't have much more information about that. I'm hoping it really is just a rumor." There's a pause as she thinks a little longer, a smile starting to form on her face. "And I heard the King snuck off today, disguised as a servant and went to the market." Adelaide teased, giggling softly and looking back up to him.

(the palace is in North end of the city, not outside of the city)
"Hmm... not a princess, she's a noblewoman. Her parents made a deal with my parents that I would marry their eldest daughter if their family supported me becoming king, and didn't try to make one of their young sons king. Now it's just a matter of when we're going to get married. I've only met her once or twice, never really spoke to her." Serhan replied. "One of the councilmen gave the order to send the soldiers South, I agreed to it but I think he would've made the order whether I wanted him to or not. Did Celena come around the kitchens before? You don't think Merve and her..." he trailed off, looking disappointed. "Let's return to the palace and see how worried everyone must be about that."

(Gotcha)
Adelaide nodded. "Well, I hope you two are able to get along once you come together." She said with a slight smile, knowing the match was made politically. Every royal marriage was like that, but it didn't always mean it ended in happiness for either party. While Adelaide was nervous about the idea of a new Queen and the expectations that came with it, she always had to remind herself that she was lucky to have this job. Her head tilts at the last thing he says, noticing the look of disappointment. "Perhaps? It's none of my business if Merve chooses not to tell me about anything she and Celena do. It's not something super recent but it's definitely noticeable now, whenever Merve has a break I see them hanging out." She pauses for a moment before adding. "...Does that bother you?" Adelaide wasn't sure where his disappointment was coming from, maybe from a place of missing what seemed to be a close friend, or maybe they were more than that before he took the throne. She was curious. At the mention of getting back, however, Adelaide began to walk a little faster.

Serhan walked a little faster as well though it was easier for him with longer legs. "There hasn't been a queen in the palace for over 20 years, or so the servant girls say. I just hope she doesn't turn out to be spoiled and bossy, for their sake, but you know how many noble girls are." He said, though his words felt a little empty since he remembered being a spoiled child, and if it wasn't for his harsh grandfather, he would've kept it til adulthood. They reached the long set of steps leading up to the side entrances of the palace and the same servants' quarters they left from. He kept his arm linked with hers as they went up the stairs. "I don't know if it bothers me yet... it shouldn't bother me..." He replied

"You and me, and the rest of the servant girls are hoping for that." Adelaide said with a soft chuckle, having to pick up the pace to keep with him now, taking the steps quickly as they went up. She had almost forgotten they were linked together by their arms, after getting over the slight awkwardness it just felt natural for her to be walking beside him, as if she were walking beside any one of her friends. But, Serhan was the King, so this was something she knew she shouldn't be getting used to. "I just noticed you looked disheartened about it, but that's something we don't have to discuss right now, or at all." She assured him, looking relieved as they finally made it to the entrance. Hesitantly, her arm slipped from his and she took the basket of stuff from his as well. Carefully, Adelaide opened the door and peeked in, not noticing anyone in the main room she opened the door wider and took Serhan's hand and dragged him inside.

Serhan tried to slow down for her but was impatient to get back. The sooner they were there, the sooner his reprimanding for disappearing would be over. It probably wouldn't do well for his image in the eyes of the council. Serhan followed her through the door and into the main area across from the kitchens. There was much laughter and talking coming from there so he tried to stay quiet, but as soon as he reached for the clothes he left he turned around to see Merve and two other servant girls standing in the doorway, looking back and forth between him and Adelaide.

(omg i love her)
Adelaide was starting to get a little anxious now as she followed him to where his clothes were, turning around and nearly squealing as she jumped. Her hand rips away from Serhanβs and she immediately starts messing with her gown, avoiding looking right at Merve because she knows sheβs in trouble. Adelaide bites her lower lip and glances to Serhan, not sure what to say or if sheβs even brave enough to say anything, so she just stands there instead while shifting nervously from side to side.

Serhan glanced at Adelaide then looked at Merve nervously for a response. Merve squinted at both of them, raising a brow in confusion and curiosity. She crossed her arms and smirked a bit. "I don't even have to guess, do I?" She asked, nodding to Serhan's peasant clothes. "How far did you two go?" She asked, looking to Adelaide. Serhan took his regular clothes with him and went off to get changed without a word, looking embarrassed to have been caught.

βJ-Just to the market...β Adelaide said sheepishly, watching as he left her side. Traiter! She thought momentarily before bringing her attention to Merve, feeling uneasy as she smirked. After a moment Adelaide rushed up to her, eyes wide with worry. βPlease donβt tell anyone, please. Promise you wonβt.β She begged Merve, looking desperately between her and the other girls.
