The first time you saw the lights, you were only a kit. The sun had just barely dipped beneath the mountain which guarded the valley you called home, leaving the land cloaked in shadows. It was dark, cold, and lonely. The kind of night when fears festered and fur stood on end.
Then, you blinked. When your eyes opened again, light was twisting among the silver stars, soaking the world with color and hope. You must have stood there for hours, the sight too stunning for words. And when the sun crept over the jagged horizon only a soft sigh slipped past your smile.
Again and again the lights came to you. When you were toeing the thought of hopelessness, or fearing the unknown. When you were less than a year old, they surrounded you in their splendor, creating for you a new family stronger than blood.
They carried you forward, guiding your paws and filling your life with raw happiness. The lights were a blessing to those of the valley. And blessings weren't made to be overlooked.
But even the strongest lights, eventually flicker and die out.
What is it? AuraClan is a clan based in a large valley surrounded by jagged mountains. They worship their ancestors, who they believe reside in the stars and visit the realm of the living whenever the northern lights crisscross the night sky. At nine moons old an apprentice goes through a ceremony where their aura color is revealed. Same auras act like family, thus the common phrase 'aura is stronger than blood'.
Honestly it's going to be a literate/semi-literate rp based around the idea that each cat has an aura color that will dictate how they have to live their lives.
How can you help? If you're interested in helping out I'd love anything you can provide. I'll be posting what I have on aura colors and territory ideas asap, so we can probaly start by refining that.
If you want to be a moderator I do expect you to be active in the planning phase, but I'm also accepting applications which I will choose from when the finished version is posted. To apply, just give me your username, reason you want to be a mod, and a role-playing sample that demonstrates your literacy.
Disclaimer: I wrote this all on my phone since I'm on vacation, so please excuse the mistakes of autocorrect and phone grammar!

The Auras
The White Aura: Cats with a white aura are by far the rarest in the clans. They are natural born leaders and protectors, willing to throw themselves in front of clanmates to save them or command troops from the front lines. They are said to be rational and friendly, however each cat differs in multiple ways. One thing is sure though, every single leader of AuraClan has been a white aura, and previous deputies of other auras seem to be tossed to the side whenever a white aura is discovered. The Grey Aura: Cats with a grey aura, though not rare, aren’t common either. They tend to be cautious and far-sighted, more concerned with the future than the present. They often struggle with relationships due to a disconnect with the present, however it is subjective for each aura. Grey auras generally don’t get along well with the spontaneous and sporadic orange and yellow auras, and much prefer the company of brown and blue auras.
The Brown Aura: Cats with a brown aura are uncommon within the clan, however, they seem to make up the majority of outsiders who possess an aura. They are analytical and cunning, more adept in using their wits to protect themselves than claws and teeth. Brown auras have a bad reputation for being aloof and looking down upon the more gentle auras. However, many brown auras are just as capable in friendliness and hospitality as pink auras. Brown auras tend to get along more with the other introverted auras such as grey and purple auras, however they do like the purpose teal auras seem to give them. Brown auras tend to not get along with more empathetic auras like pink and yellow.
The Black Aura: Cats with a black aura are fairly common. They are adaptable and hard-working willing to bend and adapt for whatever the clan seems to need. They usually have trouble making commitments, and would much rather other cats told them what to do than them come up with it themselves. However, once they make a goal, they put everything they have into achieving it. Black auras tend to get along with most other auras, earning them a reputation of being two-faced and manipulative. However, most black auras would much rather please than stick by a specific argument.
The Red Aura: Cats with a red aura are another common type within the clan. They are ambitious and driven, willing to do whatever it takes to achieve their dreams. They have a stereotype of being aggressive and mean, but most red auras tend to be more determined than cruel. Red auras are the most likely to excel into higher ranks but their ambition often drives them away from close friends and family members. Red auras tend to get along with auras who share their fire such as orange and yellow auras, while they tend to clash with long-sided or introverted auras like purple and grey.
The Pink Aura: Cats with a pink aura are fairly common within the clan, though rarer among rogues and loners. They are romantic and loving, focusing on the tight bonds and relationships they form with clanmates rather than any main goal or plan. They can easily be fickle or flirtatious, but in their strongest moments pink auras are willing to do whatever it takes to protect and care for those they love. Pink auras tend to get along with light-hearted and live-in-the-moment types of auras like yellow and orange. However, they often clash with more serious and “boring” auras like grey and brown.
The Orange Aura: Cats with an orange aura are fairly rare within the clan, with no more than five existing at the same time. They are vastly independant and rebellious, tending to get things done without the guidance of others. They are the first to defy orders and stand up for their beliefs, often causing friction with their more respectful clanmates. However, at the heart of every orange aura is a fire that drives them forwards into whatever awaits. Orange auras tend to get along with auras who share their passion and fire like yellow and red. Auras who tend to think more patiently and long-term are their opposites, causing many orange auras to dislike blue and grey auras.
The Yellow Aura: Cats with a yellow aura are common in both clan cats and outsiders. They are friendly and spontaneous, always willing to be the voice of optimism in the clan. Yellows tend to be vocal and social, spending time with as many other cats as they want. However, they are often seen as annoying or naive by their clanmates due to their seemingly endless energy. Yellow auras tend to get along with everyone, but are disliked by the more asocial or aloof auras like brown and grey.
The Green Aura: Cats with a green aura while not common within the clan, aren’t extremely rare either. They are whimsical and creative, often caught daydreaming or lost in their own thoughts. Green auras are often experimental, willing to think outside of the box and test whatever scheme they come up with, whether it be a new hunting strategy, battle move, or herb combination. They have a stereotype of being distracted and ditzy, as most of their clanmates don’t fully understand their vision. Greens tend to get along with the more optimistic and quiet auras of yellow and purple, while butting heads with the more practical and grounded auras like blue and grey.
The Teal Aura: Cats with a teal aura are fairly common within the clan. They are curious and inquisitive, always asking questions or trying to solve problems. While some do it to gain knowledge or insight, a large majority of teal aura are just curious because everyday life bores them. A teal aura loves a good mystery, and tend to put themselves in a detective role within the clan, always trying to figure out what’s going on. Teal auras tend to get along with the more intellectual auras like brown and blue, while more quiet or introverted auras like green and purple often bore them.
The Blue Aura: Cats with a blue aura are also fairly common within the clan. They are practical and level-headed, seemingly always the mediating voice in discussions. They are not shy to voice their opinions on what they think cats can and cannot due, although they often see it more of protecting them from themselves than crushing dreams. However, blue auras have a reputation for being buzz-killers and most of the other auras like having them around in discussions, but not to hang around with. Blue auras tend to get along with the more practical and grounded cats like grey and purple auras, while more rebellious and optimistic auras like orange and green tend to rub them the wrong way.
The Purple Aura: Cats with a purple aura are more uncommon in the clan. They are subtle and quiet, preferring to be by themselves or a small group of friends than at a large social gathering. They tend not to openly voice their opinions, and if they do feel strongly about a cause, will more likely influence others to speak up rather than do it themselves. Purple auras have a reputation for being shy and inarticulate among clanmates, though this is not a guarantee. Purple auras vary in who they get along with, though they tend to like more creative and introverted auras, rather than the loud and extroverted.

Wonderful! Did you have any ideas for anything? If not, I do have rough outlines for what the territory is, but fleshing that out would be a good start if you're up to it.

Yeah I can help flesh out the territory. I'll be working on homework that I didn't do over spring break all day so I may not work extremely fast but I can definitely try

Territory AuraClan territory is made up of a large valley surrounded on three sides by towering mountains. Unchallenged by rival clans, the cats of AuraClan are known to go on hunting trips to remote places that can last for days.
Landmarks for AuraClan include: Camp: AuraClan camp in made in a large ravine close to the tallest mountain. A large fallen over tree is used as the main entrance and exit, though a narrower passage next to the nursery is also used during emergencies. The Black Trail: On the opposite side of camp, an abandoned Thunderpath weaves its way through the forest before abruptly coming to and end at the golden meadow. The Tunnel: On the side of camp next to the leader's den a large black tunnel digs into the wall of dirt. The small stream which traces the side if camp drains in to here, and along the tunnels its current gets stronger and stronger. Leads out into the Reflecting Pool. The Reflecting Pool: A large pool of water that gathers before a large waterfall. Prophets walk through the tunnel and swim in this pool to commune with their ancestors. When an apprentice's aura color is revealed they have to walk through the tunnel and completely submerge themselves in the water if the pool. The Golden Meadow: A patch of territory were massive trees give way to rolling hills and yellow plants. Half of the meadows are within a days walk, but to reach the real end of the meadow it takes two days and a half. The Night Woods: A particularly dense part of the forest where undergrowth and trees block most paths. A good place for night hunting and tree climbing. The Training Clearing: A small clearing not too far from camp that is used to train new apprentices.

Those are just the ideas I have for right now, feel free to suggest changes or ask for clarification. I'd also be up for more landmarks if you have any that you love.

Hey 🔻Puppydawg🔻 I'd love your help, but this will be a literate rp. Looking back on your posts it doesn't look like you'd be a good match here. I'm willing to give you a chance, but you have to be willing to post at least two paragraphs of text. If you're not able to do this, then I will have to remove you.

Hmmm. Feel free to shoot this down because it's just something that popped into my head pretty randomly, but what if one landmark they have is a type of backup camp I guess? Like it could be created in a cave in one of the mountains and is what they plan on using if their camp ever gets attacked or destroyed in some kind of disaster? Then to make it more relevant to the clan it could be used for warrior assessments as well? Like a group of Apprentices at the end of their assessment have to spend a few weeks or a moon or so there to see how well they can manage to work together with little instruction, hunt, and protect themselves (especially if predators are more common there). Plus it would keep the backup camp in shape and ready to use if needed. Again, feel free to turn it down if you want, it was just a random idea that seemed kinda cool.
Besides that, I like the landmarks you already have. Was there anything specific you wanted me to do with fleshing out the territory or were you mostly wanting to work on landmarks and such?

This role-play looks really interesting! Though I probably will not join because I'm in too many role-plays as it is and I don't have the muse for a literate role-play, I would love to help you plan it in some way.

Ack! I should be back now. I ended up staying at a family member's house and didn't want to ask for the wifi and/or use a bunch a data.
. I actually love that idea? Cause my general idea for the main camp had it set up as a drainage ditch on the side of the road, and in reality it would probably flood with a lot of heavy rain. Maybe they have two camps and alternate between the two depending on the season? Like in spring and winter when heavy storms would pile up, they'd use the cave camp, but in summer and fall us the one I have typed up because it's more accessible?
*ᴿᵃᶤᶰᶜᵃˡˡᵉʳ* You're welcome to help, even if you don't end up joining. I'd love to get as many opinions and brains to hammer this out as possible!

Hey! I'm here but also working on homework and watching training videos and I also might have a concussion so if I disappear it's for one of those reasons.
But yeah! I really like that. Maybe it's a big honor to be chosen for the patrol that goes to like check out the other camp and make sure it's safe/do any repairs before moving the rest of the clan there?
|
|
|
Post by lazy penguin on Mar 28, 2018 16:51:24 GMT -5
Oh yikes about the concussion, don't strain yourself.
Yeah, that's a cool idea. I just imagine, like, one apprentice being chosen cause their mentor was chosen and them getting to brag about it to all their denmates. That's just really cute to me.
I'm also thinking of splitting up a couple of roles? Like making medicine cat become healers and prophets? And healers could have kits, while prophets still couldn't? I had also debated making warriors into hunters and fighters because of how large the territory was, but I'm still not sure on that. I also had the idea that apprentices under 9 moons (when they get their aura color) can be apprenticed to anyone, but after their aura was revealed they were paired to a mentor of the same aura color. It would further the aura before blood aesthetic I was going for, but again I'm not quite sure if it'll be too complicated or whatnot.

I'm trying to take it easy but that's hard between school and work
That's a really cute image. "Shut up Oakpaw I'm trying to sleep" "But guys I'm going on the patrol tomorrow!" *groaning from the other apprentices* It could also stimulate some competition among friends and rivals which could be fun
Hmmm splitting roles could work. I definitely like the idea of their aura matching their mentors but the only problem I can see is a situation where there's not enough mentors of a certain aura? Especially with the more rare ones... unless maybe then a mentor could have two Apprentices or we could come up with something they do in that situation I think splitting Warriors into hunters and fighters would work. Maybe we could split up the deputy role then as well? A deputy for hunters and a deputy for fighters... The only thing we'd need then is how to decide which deputy moves into the leader position when the leader dies... It could be a competition, a popular vote, or chosen by the medicine cat/prophets?

True, mentors if similar aura could be hard to find. I'd be up for having one cat train multple apprentices of the same aura, and maybe we could have the leader/white aura be able to train any aura color too in case there is an apprentice of an aura with no warriors.
As for deputies I had an idea for a type of council if auras? Like a cat of each aura was chosen to give guidance to the leader and such. Sort of like how in the books the clan leader often discusses issues with senior warriors? And then the leader would choose a head council member who would be like a deputy. Although as soon as a white aura is born, they're trained as a successor.

|
Post by . on Mar 28, 2018 17:44:38 GMT -5
So white would be able to take the place of any other color, at least in mentoring? That sounds good to me
Alright yeah. I like that better. How is the council chosen? By the leader? By other cats with that aura?
|
|
|
Post by lazy penguin on Mar 28, 2018 17:53:10 GMT -5
Okay cool lol.
I figured the council member would be chosen by the other cats within that aura color. There wouldn't really be any requirements, though more often than not older cats are chosen because if their experiences. And if a certain rank of cats is missing from the council, the auras may be more inclined to pick a cat of that rank so the council stays balanced.
The only problem I was running into was whether it would be a life-long service (Or at least until retirement) or if council members could be chosen and than removed at any time? Maybe it wouldn't be a constant thing, but every full moon the auras had a choice to either change their member or keep the one they had. Idk tho.
|
|
|
Post by . on Mar 28, 2018 18:01:54 GMT -5
That works
Maybe until retirement so that they have the same cats working together and know each other and stuff. But if a color is unhappy about how their 'representative' is acting or making decisions they can choose to take them out and elect someone new? Going along with that, the leader and other council members can kick someone out and then a new one will be elected? Unless that's too complicated
|
|
|
Post by lazy penguin on Mar 28, 2018 19:50:00 GMT -5
No, I think it's really cool. So like even if a certain aura group is chill with their council member, if the leader didn' like them they can boot them out. It's a nice concept, and I really like the plots that could be created because of it.

We could definitely get a lot of cool political and like inner clan stuff going on. And also plots.
Was there anything else in particular you wanted to work on next?

Alright, so I think for now it's just going to be a lot of typing stuff up? I can maybe fly by some rules and boring stuff like that. Or we could hammer out some more traditions? If that doesn't interest you right now, I do have some starting plots that we could discuss.
Either way it's just a matter of tidying a lot of things up so they can get posted.
plagυe docтor awesome, I'd love the help! Feel free to discuss any of the things stated above or any ideas that you had!

Post by lazy penguin on Mar 29, 2018 10:17:01 GMT -5
Alright!
So for plots I had one in which the current leader is very old and not all there in the head. With no other white auras in the clan, the council has been running the show for moons and the deputy/head of council is basically the real leader. A large litter (3 or more) of apprentices is eight moons old and preparing for their aura ceremony. Most of the cats in the clan expect one of them will be a white aura and thus the next leader. However, when the ceremony is performed two of the apprentices turn out to be white auras. The clan expects the leader to just choose one of the apprentices to train as leader and the other as another important role. However, the leader refuses to choose, waiting for the ancestors to make the successor clear. When it becomes obvious that no sign is being sent the clan begins to form factions. The clan is divided by who should lead, chaos follows, etc, etc.
*ᴿᵃᶤᶰᶜᵃˡˡᵉʳ* I think I should be good for the layout, but feel free to hop in with the planning.

Ooh that's a really interesting plot. So would they mind if be training both white auras so that they're prepared when they're waiting for this sign? I really like it. Would you mind if I claimed one of those apprentices or did you not want to give out important roles yet?
And that would be our only big plot right? At least at the beginning?
|
|
|
Post by lazy penguin on Mar 29, 2018 10:40:24 GMT -5
Yeah, they'd both be trained which would only further the divide because both would be "qualified" for the position.
I'm fine with you claiming one of the apprentices if you wanted. Just know that I will expect major players in the plot to be more active and such. But you've been a big help, so I really don't think it'll be too much of a hassle for you.
It would be the major plot, at least that's what I was thinking. We'd probably start a week or two before their ceremony so we can establish some relations and interact with everyone before immediately hopping in, but I don't want this to be one of the rps that takes like twenty pages to get to the plot it had outlined at the beggining if you get.
