A lot of people consider Squirrelflight as one of the most well developed characters, going from this bratty apprentice to a head-strong warrior. And During New Prophecy, I can agree with this. A stand out moment for was the time when she exclaimed "Say that to my face, foxdung!", when Ashfur challenged Brambleclaw appointment as deputy.
However, I felt during Power of Three, Squirrelflight had lost her trademark snark, instead downgrading to a stereotypical she-cat. (Hadn't read Vision of Shadows, so say if she improves or not. I don't mind spoilers.) Just because she's more mature now, doesn't mean she has to completely lose that sharp tongue of hers, that's one of reasons I enjoyed her character so much. Her dialogue lacked distinctive personality. It could of been said by any other background character, I wouldn't of bat an eye. She seem to act more like Leafpool then her old self.
The exception to this, is during the fire, where Squirrelflight gets incredibly angry. (Which a lot of people seem to forget while drawing this scene, depicting her crying instead *Grumbles*) However right after that, she becomes a push-over, letting her kits and mate bash her around without standing up for herself. The Squirrelflight I knew would of put them in her place long ago. I'm also slightly disappointed we never got a deeper look into the relationship between her and her first litter. By starting the book when the three are literally days away from becoming apprentices, we never get that.
Imagine it, Squirrelflight could of had such great chemistry with the three, if her character had remained consistent: She would love to play ruth and rumble with Lionkit, Jaykit and her constantly throw rude remarks at each other and Hollykit getting annoyed at her mother willingness to cheat/push the rules.
While we're at it, it would of also been nice to get a deeper look into Brambleclaw's relationship with his kits as well. During Hollyleaf's death sense, I felt like it should of been Squirrelflight laying beside her dying daughter, not Leafpool. She was the one who raised her, she's Hollyleaf's true mother.

She was forced to become a mother. and being a mother in itself would change someone, even if she couldnt nurse the three. and also, leafpool was with hollyleaf at her death because it was about hollyleaf forgiving leafpool and finally accepting she's her biological daughter.
