a one x one between myself & inky
they're being punished for a crime they did not commit, going through pains that should be given to someone else. muse a is a fallen angel, and they're a good person. they were once a guardian angel on the path to becoming an archangel, ready to ascend the ranks and prove their worth. however, when they're framed for the murder of a fellow angel and for working with demons, they are stripped of their wings and their powers and sent to earth with scars in place of wings. they have one year to prove they didn't do it, otherwise they will forever lose their wings and they will be stripped of their immortality.
muse b is a demon stuck on earth after their summoner passed away, unable to find a summoner who has the right books to return them to their own realm. they have been stuck for a long time; long enough to get acquainted with human customs, long enough to know how to keep themselves hidden. their search continues, though they are beginning to tire of it.
the two meet on a dark night. muse a recognises muse b as a demon almost immediately, and realises that they might have to work with the unsavoury to get back to their place in a higher place. they approach muse b and offer a proposition; in return for the demon's help, they will do one thing that the demon most desires. aware that this is a fallen angel and aware that angels are capable of sending demons back to the underworld, they accept on the conditions; and so begins the search for the true culprit.
muse a -
muse b - Rae, 1823 years old [appearing late twenties/early thirties] At first glance, there's nothing strange about Rae. He stands at around 5'6'' which is shorter than average but otherwise not too bad. He has a lean, toned build with a medium brown skin tone and faint freckles over his nose and cheeks; average enough, right? His somewhat-curled hair is black in colour and tends to be a little messy, curling around his ears which are where the strange features begin. The tips of his ears are a little pointed and, upon closer inspection, his ears are a little longer, too. Said ears are pierced multiple times in the lobes with some small black hoops lining the shells of his ears, though there are some deep 'v' shapes in the side of his ears that look like old scars. Rae's eyes are keen and the irises are a deep red, with catlike slits for pupils. He has a mole underneath his right eye. There are various other appearances this demon can take, but this one seems to be his favourite. His general attire consists of neat pale button-ups (usually white/light grey) with a dark silk vest (black, generally) and black skinny jeans with tears in the thighs, and knee-high boots. When he opens his mouth, it's notable that his canines are all longer and sharper than a human's, and he has a pierced tongue. His shadow is also a small distance away from him, never connecting to him. This might be due to his primary ability being based around manipulating shadows.

i'm not really sure ^^ i do wanna know which muse you're more interested in before i put up my character tho (': tbh i think just name / age (or appearance age? depends on whtever u want) / basic physical deets are p chill, that's what i tend to do. i can see the demon having less human details (teeth / ears / eye-colour mainly, maybe a non-human skin-tone if u rly wanted) but the fallen angel would probs be almost entirely human, appearance-wise only.

The night had settled comfortably and there was a sudden chill in the air, but this didn't particularly bother him. Bare arms remained open to the cold, and he held a cigarette in his left hand. Smoke trailed from his mouth and up into the night sky, and, from time to time, ash dropped from the tip of it, littering the ground only briefly. In one hand, he held his phone; scrolling through media, as a demon like him did not often do.
Rae had been stuck in this realm for too long, he thought. He'd adapted easily; had managed to get a job as a bartender in this city, had settled enough that, beyond the odd glance now and then, he didn't get too many comments about his appearance. Overall, it would've been comfortable had he not been limited in his abilities - he wanted to be able to revert to his true form from time to time, wanted to use his abilities in his daily life as he often did back home but no, a Summoner had chosen to call him here. And had then gotten himself killed. The very books that had brought Rae into the world had crumbled into dust, the summoning circle had become inactive; if he were more powerful, he would have been able to get home himself, but he wasn't that powerful. He was a strong demon, that was to be sure; but among the highest? Not a chance. He was a strong enough being to deal with the pests and the slightly-stronger pests back home. Nothing more.
A soft murmur of voices and the swinging sign of the bar told him that he had arrived, but he didn't particularly want to go inside yet. Not only was it a little while until his shift, but he wanted to finish his cigarette.
With this in mind, he leaned against the rough wall and crossed his ankles idly, gaze settled blankly on the dirty pavement in front of him. A few people passed him (some dipped their heads in greeting), but none entered the bar; that likely meant that all the customers were inside, and he'd have to deal with them as it settled into the night. As a round of cheering went around, he supposed that some kind of sport was on - which didn't make him too eager to go inside, but he'd have to deal with it.
His gaze flicked up to the darkening sky; surprisingly clear. The stars were out and so was the moon, and everything felt...calm. Calmer than it had any right to be. Like the calm before a storm. He didn't like that idea. To be entirely honest, Rae was rather settled with the idea of keeping a peaceful life; there were stereotypes of demons being loud and rowdy, but they were as different as humans, really. Mostly morally grey, rarely pure evil. It's the modern age, he'd said to another summoned demon in passing, once, if you think we're supposed to be pure evil, then you were probably an angel at one point.
But that was not the point. As settled as he was, he did want to go home. The human realm did not give him much freedom to be himself - in theory he could be himself, but in practice, in a city? It would be a stupid move to do. And besides, the bar wasn't as fun. He couldn't mess with patrons by using magic on their drinks - though he could still use his shadow to eavesdrop when he was bored. He just...he liked having options, liked being able to do what he liked whenever he liked rather than being limited by this realm.
Rae sighed lowly and flicked the butt of his cigarette into the gutter, standing up straight and adjusting his shirt. Might as well steel himself for his shift, or something.

Gwen's finger traced her back, it had been about two weeks since she was framed. She was adjusting to human life but the scars on her back were a constant reminder of what she was framed of. Running her fingers over them she curled her fingers digging her nails in slightly she let out an abrupt sigh. She stood up, she had been working at the small cafe. It was all she had managed to do in the week that she had been on earth. It was sad actually. How was she supposed to prove that she hadn't murdered a fellow angel and sided with a demon no less. Letting out another sigh she grabbed her things and headed to the small home she was renting.
She walked down the street, it was dark out and there was a slight chill to the air, she felt nothing, no ominous touch, nothing. Just the subtle change in temperature the gentle breeze brought. Gwen made her way home, though she didn't really feel like being alone with her thoughts. So maybe she'd take a detour. Maybe she could meet someone could help her. "Pfft Yeah right." She grumbled to herself. She was getting annoyed the longer she stayed on earth. Gwen had been right on track for arch angel. Why would she have done anything to ruin that.
She was nearing a bar, not exactly the place for an angel to go. In fact it was probably the last place an angel would go. At this point though Gwen was reaching a low point and at this point she was willing to associate with anyone. As neared the bar and the scent of sin was everywhere. Her powers may have been taken and her wings with it but she knew that like the back of her hand. It was a bit stronger than normal but perhaps this bar was a gathering place larger than others in the area. The woman stepped into the bar, she didn't look like she would fit in there really. She was wearing a pale colored dress that was sweetheart cut and had a rather vintage look to it. Her hair was half up half down her curls falling neatly on her back.
(Sorry it is short I'm like falling asleep and I want to give you something lol )

There was a sort of itch that told him to have another cigarette - but he decided against it and headed inside the bar, moving past the various people as he entered. It was a relatively friendly place, all things considered; intimidating at first glance, but otherwise decent. He shoved his phone into his back pocket as he walked behind the bar, giving a lazy two-fingered salute to one of the other bartenders there.
"Evening," he greeted lazily, resting his elbows on the table. "Busy night?"
"Nope," the other bartender laughed, "quiet as hell."
Hell was not particularly quiet, but he decided not to specify that. Instead, he focused on serving one of the regulars sitting at the bar; who had no doubt been waiting for him. He absently mixed the drink that had been requested, leaning on one leg in a rather lazy fashion. Shifts at the bar were quiet, but he appreciated them. Those who were used to him enjoyed coming to him for drinks, enjoyed talking to him. At present, though, the more talkative regulars were not there - they would come later into the night, most likely.
Rae exhaled softly and let his gaze flick over the people in the bar. There were such a mixed variety of people - there were people who were off their shifts at work and still in uniform, or people who had come from outings or on dates, people who frequented the place and others who were thinking of it. He liked the difference in styles and in the personalities, enjoyed listening to tales from those who had drunk a little too much and were eager to tell their life stories. Very rarely was it that people were intrigued enough to ask about his eyes or ears; some of them probably assumed it was an edgy sort of costume, or some sort of difference. Either way - not many cared. He didn't care, either. He maintained a patient smile and listened and waited, nodding along to some tipsy man's story. There wasn't much for him to do right now, but he knew that it would pick up. It always would. In an absent motion, he picked up a cloth and began to clean the surface he'd been leaning on, just to fill the time.

The now fallen angel sat at the bar table, just because she was a holy being doesn't mean she didn't enjoy a drink here and there. She had yet to look up at who was serving drinks; Gwen was lost in her thoughts. Today he hair was fully down and a bit of a mess, certainly not the angel she had once been. Running her fingers through her hair she pushed it out of her face as she rest her head in her hand racking her brain on how to fix this.
It hadn't been her fault, someone had framed her. Someone who wanted the position she was going to claim probably. But who could it have been? Gwen just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. The person who had died...well murdered, was the arch angel before her. So it makes sense that the blame would have fallen on her the person next in line. But anyone who knew Gwen knew she was one of the most devoted angels in heaven. Why would she jeopardize that being so close to promotion. Letting out a soft sigh she finally spoke up, keeping her head resting in one of her hands. "Wouldn't by any change have a good wine here?" Wine was the blood of Christ right? It wasn't bad for her to partake in that. Plus, right now she was a fallen angel, might as well embrace it a little bit while she could. Who knows maybe this was how she would stay.
Her mind drifted to the day, there was blood everywhere. It had been a messy murder almost like the person who did it was having fun. The body of the previous arch angel lay in the middle of the floor, surrounded by symbols that were well know to angels. These symbols had been that of the demonic language. So obviously a demon and angel had worked together. It was almost like she had been set up to take the fall for the crime. Gwen had entered the room like she did here and there to speak to the arch angel, after all the two were friends. She always asked them for help when she didn't know what to do. If it weren't for the arch angel she was sure she wouldn't be up for the position. They had been so close to retirement too.
