1 x 1 "single parents get together" RP with . I'll be posting a starter asap. My parent will be Johan Scribe, he's 38, generally pretty introverted and serious. He currently works as a sign language interpreter, usually freelance jobs. He also plays piano but that's just a hobby. He was the one who moved away, which means it was Riley who dated the jerk. He had his daughter Paige when he was 24, she's currently 14. She takes a lot after her mother(who's been dead to him for 7 years) appearance and personality wise: she's a bit showy and dramatic, but kind about it. She's also a huge nerd. I've got Riley Capps - 38. She's kind hearted and optimistic but full of energy and occasionally over emotional. She can be sensitive at times but refuses to back down if she believes she's right. Her son is August. Auggie is 15 and a sophomore in high school (if that's alright, if not I can make him 14 and a freshman). Auggie is very athletic and outgoing. A class clown that takes after his father, Russel. He had a twin brother, but Zane was killed in the same car accident that killed Russel when the twins were 11-12. Auggie and Riley have a very close relationship.

How do you think Auggie and Paige met+became friends? And where do you think we oughta start? Auggie/Paige friendship or Riley/Johan meeting for the second first time?

Oh well, it's fine, no biggie, I don't wanna step on the relationships we've built in our heads between the parents/kids fpft.

Auggie could be tutoring Paige in a class that he took when he was a freshman? Or they could be in the same class and she's tutoring him? And then he could be a little embarrassed by that so they do it at his house (or hers) and she meets Riley and then goes home and tells Johan about Auggie and Riley and that could be like their first "interaction"/hearing about each other? That probably didn't make sense but basically tutoring is one way that Auggie and Paige could meet? And I'm cool with starting either way. Up to you.
Oh shoot I forgot about that too. Oh well, I really like the relationship I got with Riley and Auggie so *shrugs*

Yeah, and I like Paige+Johan's relationship, so we can just ignore that plan fpft.
I like the idea of Paige showing Auggie the ropes in a class. It'd have to be an elective so they could be in it together. Paige is best at performing arts and science, so maybe some sorta elective science class, like astronomy or zoology? Or she's a year ahead in science.
Thanks for the idea, I'm probably gonna run with it in the starter.

Well Riley is a vet and both her and Auggie like animals so I could definitely see him following the path of a vet (or possibly doctor). I feel like he'd be good at science but there could be like a certain chapter or concept he's struggling with so the teacher just asks Paige to help him figure that out? And also I just decided that auggie rides horses because Riley does and I think it'd be cute to share a hobby But he keeps it quiet at school cause he's also a big tough football player

Paige Scribe was a remarkably quick learner, when she applied herself. Of course, she rarely did, save for when the subject interested her. Luckily biology was one such subject. There was the occasional bump in the road, but the current lesson on hydrocarbons? Easy as pie.
That's why she was so confused when Mr. Jagger called her back after class. But she hung around like he wanted, nervously fiddling with the ends of her hair. There was another student staying behind: a boy, August...something. She wasn't sure what his last name was; they didn't talk much. He was a year above her and was just sort of intimidating. He played football, for Pete's sake! She stole a few confused glances at August, trying to ask him with her eyes what this was all about.

Auggie was normally a good student, especially in science, but he just couldn't seem to grasp the concept they were working on. He'd thought about asking his mother, but was always afraid of letting her down. He knew she loved him and would much rather he be happy and healthy than get good grades, but he always tried so hard to be perfect for her since the day they lost Auggie's father and brother. After seeing the homework assignment he turned in (at least that's what Auggie assumed the problem was), the teacher had held him back at the end of class.
He hated times like these and actually avoided talking to his teachers whenever possible. It wasn't that big of a deal. He usually managed to pull off As and Bs in all of his classes without a problem, so teachers rarely had any reason to force Auggie to talk to them. He just always found himself more comfortable with his peers and would rather be accepted by his classmates than by his teachers. As long as his grades stayed up, his teachers and mother didn't really bother him about his schoolwork. That's why he was so intimidated about the meeting.
Part of him, of course, was also curious about the other girl that had been held behind. A freshman, he knew. One of the few freshmen in the class. What was her name? Peyton? Parker? Paige? Yeah! That was it! Paige! Despite his victory at remembering her name, Auggie didn't make a move to say anything to Paige. Hopefully she was here for the same reason he was. He wouldn't feel quite as embarrassed if he saw someone else was struggling with the concept.
Auggie avoided looking at Paige. He wasn't quite sure why she was here, and he didn't plan on asking. He'd always been the quieter of the twins, though he had done his best to be more outgoing and friendly like Zane had been. He'd gotten good at it, but he still reverted to the old shy Auggie when he was unsure of himself. He was very unsure of himself right now, so he avoided Paige and slowly packed up his books as his classmates filed out of the room. When they were gone, he quickly finished packing up and turned to the teacher to see what he had been held after class for.

Mr. Jagger finished up with whatever it was he was doing, and spun in his chair to face the two of them, "thanks for staying behind," he said, "August, I've noticed you've been struggling with our current topic, and as much as I'd love to help you myself, I'm unable. Paige has grasped the concept quickly, and I suggest that you pick her brain in order to understand it better."
Paige wanted the floor to open up and eat her. This was...horribly embarrassing. She wasn't smart enough to be tutoring anyone, especially someone as quietly terrifying as this dude. At least, she reasoned, she wasn't in August's shoes. It must be awful being asked to take pointers from a girl younger than you.
"And you, Paige, you did almost fail our last unit test. There will be a lot of content from there on the final exam, so it wouldn't hurt to get some pointers yourself."
Oh jeez oh no never mind she should never be thankful for anything tiiiiime to maybe jump out the window that was logical.
Mr. Jagger leaned back in his chair, pleased with himself. His colleagues in the English department had been telling him about how they assigned quiet students they thought would get along seats next to each other, or assigned them as partners on group projects. He'd been wanting to try it out himself, not that he would ever otherwise meddle in his students' lives.

Auggie paled when the teacher suggested that he get tutoring. He'd prided himself in the fact that he hadn't needed help when it came to school, and here the teacher was telling him that one of the youngest girls in the class is the one he should go to for help. He stayed silent until Mr. Jagger was completely done talking and then he glanced at Paige, his blue eyes analyzing her.
"Uh, yes, sir," he said. "I, uh, guess that'll work," he said with a slight frown. He glanced at Paige before continuing. "Today's the only day that I don't have either football practice or work. So, uh, are you free after school?" He wasn't very happy about this, but he knew his mom wouldn't be home until a few hours after Auggie got home. Maybe that meant he'd have time to have Paige over to tutor him and then he could get her to leave before his mom returned.
He knew that she wouldn't really have a problem with Auggie needing help, but he also wanted to show his mom that he didn't need help. She already had a lot on her mind and he wanted to show her that he was okay and that he could manage stuff on his own. He could afford to get help from Paige only if he managed to hide it from his mom.
"And, uh, we can meet at my house," he said. "My mom just went shopping so there's a lot to eat. And drink. And, uh, yeah..." Auggie rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly as he made himself shut his mouth. He could feel his face heating up and he only wished he could disappear into thin air.
