Me senses another terrible parent on the rise! Especially since I’m getting vibes of “Have You Tried Not Being a Monster?” Tropes, Along with eventual shunning of poor Lyra for being blessed with something her mother fears. Also Shadow, stop killing off fathers! You might become Disney at the point of always missing one parent per main character!

Katanaheart All very understandable predictions, given that you've read Curse and other works of mine. x'D Honestly it's hard for me NOT to kill off a parent. It has to do with personal feelings and experiences in my own life. In all four of my different worlds (Fate of Fire, Forest of Kalmera, Tidecaller and now Starborn) parents always die. But this is the first time (besides a few other stories that I can't name) that a parent was killed off before the main character was born or during a time that they can't remember. When I was writing Lyra's character this seemed like a very natural course to take.

» ѕнαdσω ⚔️ ;; Intriguing prologue!
I think it'd be interesting to see how Lyra's life will progress now that she's been 'accidentally' blessed as a Starborn. I also think that having a parental figure missing before a character's birth is interesting rather than having them killed during childhood. I've never heard of that before, so I think it's pretty natural as well. Cass' joy at her daughter's birth was sweet, too. <3 I'm already sketching out some fanart; let's just hope it turns out as good as it looks in my head. ;u;

True but it’s not the first missing or possibly dead father. *Points to Wanderer.* He is likely alive, but I don’t remember if it was confirmed he was alive or not, in Curse.

Mᴏᴏɴ - - - Thank you! It will be entertaining to say the least! I wanted to avoid that trope. It's too easy of a way to create a breaking point for a character; an introduction to death and loss. I wanted to try sitting in the middle of that scale (one side being the parent dies and the other being everyone is alive and happy) where Lyra would never know what it is like to have both parents. Then again as I'm saying this I took this trope for many of my other stories, though I like to argue that the circumstances and reasoning for it is different from just getting my main character to see "real life" death and loss. Cass' moments in this prologue made me teary eyed. x'D Oh my goodness, moon, already?? Anything you create will be epic!

Katanaheart - Ahh I see you are speculating that Lyra's father could possibly not be dead? I actually don't think it was ever specified in Curse if Wanderer was alive or dead. We just know that he is Shadow's true father. Given his age he can very well be alive.

It could be possible Lyra’s father is also Starborn but had to be pulled away from his family for his own duties... But he’s likely dead, judging by how the other she-cats were.

Katanaheart - Oh no! It's fine! x'3 I just want to make sure I understand so that we are on the same page. I like hearing theories/speculations because it gives me more satisfaction knowing the truth (cause I'm evil like that). rofl I forget now hat my moon sign is. o.e' But that's interesting! Hmmm, well it isn't an exact science (despite how accurate it can be). I don't think anyone's is perfectly in tune with their personality.

WAIT WHAT REALLY? Wait...actually that makes sense. o.e' I had to do a double take there rofl It's actually good because basically that's what Lyra is. Born under Aries in both sun and moon. (But in this world she's lunar because she was born at night!)

Hello there, Shadow! I loved the prologue, especially how all the characters personalities are so apparent and unique already, even though there’s only a prologue up. Dessyria’s frustration is almost palpable - She’s written very well! I think she’ll be one of my favourite characters.
Uh, I had something else to say, but I’ve forgotten what is was o.e”

DingoleapYou are a leo? That's so perfect for you, honestly. :'O Hello, Dingo! <3 Ack, thank you! I'm trying to improve my characterization in this story. I want each of them to feel more real and more diverse. Dessyria is actually an old character of mine from years ago believe it or not! Finally found a place she can fit (though I still have her in one of my CotV novels, but hey, it is what it is lol. She felt good here. I'm sure it will come to you later. x'D

Lyra: the lyre
"In mythology, Lyra is the celestial harp invented by Hermes, which Apollo or Mercury gave to Orpheus, the skilled musician of the Argonautic expedition.
According to Burritt: 'The Lyre was a famous stringed instrument much used by the ancients, said to have been invented by Mercury about the year of the world 2000 (BC), though some ascribe the invention to Jubal. It is universally allowed that the lyre was the first instrument of the stringed kind used in Greece. The different lyres at various periods of time had four to eighteen strings each. The modern lyre is the Welsh harp. The lyre among painters is an attribute of Apollo and the Muses.'
( Fun fact, the lyre is heavily associated with the 'heavenly number' seven! )
In Bohemia the Lyre was "the Fiddle in the Sky." The ancient Britons called it "King Arthur's Harp," and the Persians "a Lyre." Novidius said it was "King David's Harp," and Schiller curiously enough thought that the constellation represented "the Manger," the birthplace of the infant savior.
( In ancient India, Lyra was more associated with a bird like an eagle or hawk rather than a musical instrument, which is why Lyra has such close connections to the constellation Aquilla. There is even a myth that the Lyre was made out of the back of a tortoises' shell! )
The Arabs called Lyra "the Swooping Eagle," to distinguish it from Aquilla, which was regarded as "the Flying Eagle." Lyra has also been likened to a "Goose," an "Osprey," and a "Wood Falcon."
According to Dr. Seiss, Lyra symbolizes the rejoicing in heaven at the final victory over the powers of evil."

I’m glad diversifying your characters is working so well for you! They all fit so nicely within the prologue, and interact so beautifully with one another, particularly Dessyria and Nightingale. I love finding good, solid uses for old characters! Perhaps she’s a time-traveller O.o
I think maybe I was going to talk to you about Black Panther? I can’t remember if I did that or not. Cause I absolutely loved it. It was stunning in so many ways. (I have a friend studying digital media and film and she keeps fangirling over the cinematography and the way the film was shot.)

Black Panther literally almost had me crying when it started. I'm not even being represented in this movie (being a Caucasian lady) but seeing all of that African culture so beautifully displayed was just breathtaking...and the WOMEN!!!!!!!!!!!! (I got serious Darkmoon vibes from the main warrior, the general played by the woman who was in the walking dead?) So powerful and strong and just NOT caring about anything other than their duty...ugh so good. I was eating it up. I'm so happy my birthday falls on Black History Month, I've always loved African American/African culture. And your friend is right to fan-girl over the cinematography. Some of those shots felt like paintings! It made those moments stick out so much more and bring in more meaning to the movie. It was all done very purposefully. Black Panther is my #1 favorite movie of all time now.

It helps me defeat the demon that is art/writing block. KEEP THOSE CREATIVE JUICES FLOWING, SHADOW.
You’re certainly getting better at spreading character development around. The minor characters in this felt so real, so complete, even though they only have small roles in the story. I applaud you. Characters as a solar system is a wonderful analogy. I feel it.
She’s obviously very talented.
I’m literally drooling over this movie because it was so well constructed. It was beautifully crafted and the acting was phenomenal. The characters! God! Beautiful! If I remember correctly, this is the first film produced by a major Hollywood studio to be filmed on location in Africa, so it’s quite a milestone achievement. And the diversity of the cast was perfect. Only two white people! Only two! One of my absolute favourite things was how the culture was so progressive and futuristic, yet so traditionally African at the same time. It was amazing. Ugh the women in this were amazing. It brings me immense joy that T’Challa’s little sister Shuri (the scientist/inventor lady) is canonically the smartest person in the Marvel movie universe.
I know, I know, I’m Marvel trash. I’m full of trivial information.
Said friend actually works in a movie theatre and I’m harassing her over bringing me a poster. I will not stop until she brings me one.

Can’t wait to read! It shall be my evening indulgence!
Such a good movie. So, so good. I keep saying that, but I think I’m just in awe of it, and so keep running out of things to say. The family dynamic was so well done in this movie. I adore a good sibling relationship, so I loved the interactions between Shuri and T’Challa. The familial relationships forced all the characters to make such hard choices, which did wonders for the plot line.
Marvel is just so good. There are very few of their movies that I don’t like. I AM DETERMINED to get my poster.
I have to admit, I haven’t listened to the soundtrack yet, apart from when I saw it in the cinema.

Now that I’ve read! I’m surprised by Cass’s reaction at the end, I expected anger and her driving off Lyra. I also expected this to happen and even agreed that she is a terrible mother when she mentioned it. I’m also surprised it was she that told Lyra about the zodiacs, when she wanted nothing to do with them earlier. I still suspect her words to be true at some point, even if she is good to Andre.
Oh, and something that annoyed me, the fur color changing, I know what it’s supposed to symbolize. But it sounds...annoying for lack of a better word? One could simply just assume any black cat is Starborn, pretty much. I feel like what could’ve put them apart is having a different patch of fur at certain parts of the body, depending on Zodiac. But that’s just a minor design complaint, so no real worries there! :lol.
The description of the land is also very nice as is Lyra’s love for it as well, too bad she has to leave it.
