kittykatcutiez Instinct was a unreliable thing that Thutsef had almost never used in his entire life. But now, in this moment, he acted on it -- pulling Cleo in again and kissing her forehead softly, not even considering the ramifications or implications of such an act. "It's okay, we're safe now," he whispered, then let her go. His brain was still in absolute shock, and the only thing he had the capacity to think about was the Queen and Ay's conversation. What was she going to do? What was going to happen? What was...wait. Where were the guards? Why hadn't they been caught. Perhaps the Queen had dismissed the sound as nothing, just a flight of nerves. Thutsef looked to Cleopatra and nodded, telling her it was truly safe. "We can go now, back to the Queen's audience room...if that's what you want?" Cleopatra was surprised when Tutsef had kissed her on the forehead , but she knew it wasn't for a romantic purpose , witch made her feel better. Her body was still shaking from almost being caught by the guards , but she managed to answer Tutsefs question. "Yes , that is fine" She nodded. She closed her eyes and tried to catch her breath.

Cleopatra was surprised when Tutsef had kissed her on the forehead , but she knew it wasn't for a romantic purpose , witch made her feel better. Her body was still shaking from almost being caught by the guards , but she managed to answer Tutsefs question. "Yes , that is fine" She nodded. She closed her eyes and tried to catch her breath. Thutsef took another few seconds to look Cleopatra over, just to check she really was okay. The poor girl was trembling still, but they couldn't stay here -- it wasn't safe. So very slowly, Thutsef stood up and pulled Cleo to her feet too. They headed back down the passageway, the hidden tunnels from the Queen's audience room to her chambers. There were little freckles of light coming in through the woodwork and stone cracks now -- it was sun up. Yet, when they saw full light again, and Thutsef had to close his eyes until they adjusted, he was greeted by a slap in the face by a serving girl, one of Cleopatra's colleges. "Where were you?!" she demanded to know. "The Queen was almost assassinated last night -- some strange, dirty looking fellow dressed in black. He's down the cells now though." Then she saw Cleopatra and soured her face. "Oh, I see," she said. "Decided to bunk off duty to have a little fun in the secret tunnels, eh? Well, I hope he was good -- good enough to warrant you deserting your post." Thutsef glared at her and was about to tell her off, but the serving girl simply walked away. The comment didn't mean much to him, but Cleo cared for the Queen, greatly. She probably took it too much to heart. He turned to her. "Are you okay?" he asked.

Ipy looked deeply into his brown eyes, locking him into intense eye contact. "People talk, Pharaoh, and I know a lot of people."she said simply. She searched his face. "Did my performance upset you?" Now she was on edge. The Pharaoh searching her out wasn't necessarily a great thing. Perhaps it was just to compliment her skills or maybe to probe for information. Maybe he was angry with her. "I am sorry if it was a poor tribute." She lowered her head, frozen at the thought of what could possibly become of her. Senseless girl! How could you? If he kills you who will tske care of your sister? You wanted to impress but you failed. Fool!she inwardly scolded herself. She held her breath waiting for his response. (Oh cool!!! Lilystar88 ) [[They're standard practice over here -- present at like, >90% of births. I know they can be rare in the states. But yeah, I love working in it. ]] Akhenaten knew that look, the lowered face, the tense shoulders. Her pulse would've been raised as well and her brain would have been swimming in fear. He'd seen many look and act, like that with him. Sometimes he wished some others would -- like the Hittite King, but not her. She had no reason to fear. He put his hand on her shoulder ever so gently, letting her feel the cool temperature of his skin and his steady pulse -- he wasn't angry in the slightest. "Relax," he said, quiet enough so only she could hear, making the comment personal to her and her alone. "I will not harm you -- even though I know getting the information about my wife and I couldn't have been easy. You were brave to perform with it sewn into your dance," Pharoah said. "Honesty is admirable," he added. "It's the one thing I wish Egypt had more of."

Cleopatra's head hung down in shame. Although she had tried to help , the servant girls words hurt. I should've never done this.... she thought. What will happen to me? or Tutsef? Cleopatra knew what she had to do. What was best for the both of them.
She looked up at Tutsef and answered his question. "No , I am not okay." She spat , then her voice calmed. "It's time to go our separate ways and back to our duties." Cleopatra walked to the exit of the room. She looked back at Tutsef sadly.
"Goodbye , Tutsef" Were her only words as she left the chambers. She didn't know why she was so upset , most likely because that was the most fun she had ever had. Oh well.. she thought to herself. It is my duty to help the queen and I need to focus on that.

So as she walked out of the chambers Thutsef put on his most determined face. This hasn't finished!"

Ipy let out a deep breath. She met his gaze, reluctantly allowing the smile of relief flicker across her countenance. "Thank you for your mercy, o King. You are as good as some say. I would humbly bow at your feet but I shall not reveal your identity." Her expression was soft, her eyes filled with gratitude and respect. "The adoration and honor I express even now might be too dangerous to show as it is." Ipy picked up her wine once more and sipped trying to look more casual and less....well reverent as to not tell of the Pharaoh's secret. Too many people were around. And she knew enough of Nefertiti to know she was not to be trifled with. (Oh that is interesting. I never realized that. Lilystar88 ) [[Your bio says your a teacher. How does that work? Here you need a 3 year degree and to pass placements. Same in the states?]] Akhenaten raised one eyebrow and looked over her again. He wasn't going to ask her about who she truly was, and her motivations behind what she did, but he could have a guess. Her legs were strong, which meant she was not just a dancer who relied on her body alone -- no, it was clear by now she was skilled too. But her belly was something of a curiosity to Akhenaten. It was clean, and flat. The pharaoh, naturally, had had pick and choose of any woman he'd wanted throughout his life. He'd had maid's and those who were not maid's -- those who had been taken by many, and those who had been taken by few. And, he knew a woman who had birthed did not look like Ipy looked. So she had no child, but there was certainly some reason she was so eager to please. And yet, not vying for a marriage to become a lesser wife, as many of Nefertiti's servants often did. Akhenaten felt sorry for them, and tried to protect them lest his Queen found out. What did she want. "Fear not for me," he said, smiling brightly again as his brown eyes flicked up to meet hers. "I was forged during my time as a co-leader -- learning about who wanted me dead and who didn't. I'm happy to say now Aten has granted me mercy in my later years. Although some may desire that some of my decisions were different," he glanced over to Ay, sitting beside the Hittite King now. "No one wants me in bandages yet." And then, he smiled again -- revealing the sparkle of curiosity in his glances. "But you're protecting your safety, not mine. You know that someone might wish to end you, if circumstances around your life changed."

But that's just who she was. Thutsef could have rolled his eyes in wild disbelief. He knew women could sometimes be irrational, but this was beyond what he'd seen before. The scribe took her gently by the hand and led her to a more secluded location, hidden behind a big statue of Nefertiti, where it was cooler too since it was shaded from the morning sun. "That's ridiculous," Thutsef said, grabbing a clean linen cloth he used for ink blotting and pressing it under her eyes. "You're more help than you're ever going to realise because if you weren't here, I would simply think myself going mad," he told her, smiling as he made eye contact with her -- being reminded that truly, he was more than just fond of her. "I...I'm more confident around you. I don't feel as...small anymore. So when it comes to that one tiny mistake, that you had no control over, you've repaid it back a million times over -- simply by being here. With me." "And as for reputation," Thutsef said, in that moment making a decision he never thought he'd have the capacity to make. "**** it. I recovered from being born with skin like this, I can recover from whatever some silly servant girl thinks of me."

Cleopatra smiled at Tutsef's optimism . He was right. It was silly of her to be crying or to be thinking about leaving him to be on his own.
"I am sorry I tried to leave you on your own..I just got scared and ashamed..." Cleopatra glanced down , avoiding eye contact. "I hope you can forgive me.."

Thutsef almost chuckled, but didn't -- he didn't want to make light of her fear. Because it was fear she was feeling, what she always felt. Sometimes it made him a little angry -- not angry at her, but angry at the emotion itself -- the emotion that kept her trapped. "There's nothing to forgive, Cleo," he whispered, wiping her tears again and pulling her chin up gently to face him. "Why are you always so afraid? Why do I never see you swell up with confidence -- confidence I think you deserve."

Cleopatra clasped her hands together and plastered a smile on her face. "Well im glad all of that was cleared up. I feel a lot better." She said , praying to the gods that Tutsef didn't acknowledge what she said before that.

(I am an assistant teacher.) Ipy tilted her head curiously and for a reason unknown to her conscious thought she told him the truth. "Not my safety; my little sister's. My own life does not matter aside from keeping her fed and well. If something happened to me..." Ipy felt the back of her eyes burn and she quickly composed herself. She would not shed a tear before the Pharaoh. How childish. She took a sip of wine once more to gather herself. Perhaps too much wine was already causing her to be loose of the tongue. It was a very crowded party. She was beginning to feel trapped. A woman like her was used to dancing, obeying the host and leaving. She was not accustomed to conversation. ( Lilystar88 ) For Akhenaten, truth was the ultimate goal. It tasted sweeter than honey, was more satisfying than any bed-time adventure with any woman, and was more addictive than the rare poppy seeds that were sometimes sailed in from foreign lands. So when Ipy told him what really motivated her he wanted to bow as low to the ground and give her jewels and treasures beyond what he currently owned. But, alas, that would have damned them both -- so instead he reached into his back pocket and brought out a broach. He had intended to give it to her as a gift for her to wear, but now knew it would serve a different purpose. "Any noblewoman will buy this off of you for perhaps a quarter of a year, or even half a year's salary," he said, placing the solid gold emblem, carved intricately with wings and hieroglyphics that said 'Be favored among the thoughts of the sun', in the palm of her hand. It had a huge ruby in it's center and around the outside was dotted with tiny pearls and diamonds. "Sell it, please. It was in fact my own sister's, Beketaten. I'd do anything to be able to feed her now, but do me the small kindness of letting me be happy that at least someone's little sister is being fed," he replied, looking down -- almost just a little bit shy -- at the fact he had suddenly revealed himself to be so...sentimental.

He was desperate to know -- truly -- because whatever had happened to her, it wasn't who she was. Thutsef saw who she was -- behind the shyness was a woman desperately loving and kind too. And, she was also brave. Braver than he would ever be. "I won't force you to tell me, Cleo," Thutsef said. "But whatever happened -- whoever, did whatever -- can't change who you are; who I see you to be." "Because where you see someone unworthy, or shy, or foolish. Lilystar88 Ipy's eyes widened in shock. "My lord, I cannot! To give up something of a lost loved one could be regrettable... I do not wish to burden the king so." Her eyes welled, moved to tears by his kindness and generosity. Hesitantly, she lifted her hand to his face, gently to his cheek, and gazed into his eyes. It was a good thing he was dressed as a servant. "You are a good man. I am grateful but I cannot take advantage of it." Akhenaten smiled sweetly, and cupped his hand around the one of hers that was upon his cheek, then brought it to his lips and kissed it gently, before holding it close to his heart. His eyes met hers once more. All that was in them was compassion, and an ease and relaxation that came so naturally to him around Ipy -- which was why perhaps he might've been so captivated by her dance. He looked at her, and felt no fear. There was always a little bit of fear in the back of his brain when he was in any other situation -- especially if he was with Ay, and there was always a smidgen when he was with Nefertiti. "Please, my lady, you need to take it. My sweet sister is gone -- her tomb is laden with treasures ten times more valuable than this, but all material things can be taken from me. The way I keep her dear to me is the memories I have of her. Brushing her hair for her, because she claimed only I could do it without it hurting. Arguing with her over staying late with parties -- and flirting with foreign princes. These memories, no one can steal." "But she herself, was stolen from me. So if you need anything, you must ask me. I have doctors, and scholars, and whatever you might require. Let me do this little good for you, because if I can't secure my Kingdom's line or solidify our borders then at least let me be a pharaoh that will be remembered well in your eyes. That may be my own saving grace when the end comes for me." [[ahh, so is an assistant teacher just something you can go straight into (forgot to say that in the last post)]]

Lilystar88Ipy's cheeks warmed as his lips touched her hand. She offered a smile. "Pharaoh...you are too kind. Thank you for your generosity. My sister will be fed for awhile with this." She subtly nodded her head in a small bow. "Thank you." She noted the compassion in his eyes and felt her heart flutter. He was a kind and loving and generous man. She swallowed, suddenly feeling exposed emotionally. She allowed her hand to rest on him. "I will always remember you, Pharaoh, and fondly st that." Her voice was soft but filled with affection. Akhenaten chuckled, looking down over her body again before sliding his arms around her and holding her before pulling her down onto a futon they sat beside. He was carefully vigalent as he did so — just to be sure no one had seen them and wondered who he was, a servant associating with a favored dancer of Pharaoh’s. Once they say Akhenaten kept a gentle hold of her person. One hand around her waist, another clasped in her own hand and pulled up to his chest. And sitting with her, he simply watched the party go by — the buzz of merrymaking still there, but now separate from them as they sat in their own bubble. “I’m glad someone will remember me fondly,” Pharaoh commented. “Ay keeps on warning me that I’ll be Egypt’s lost Pharaoh if I don’t secure our borders or my line.”

"My heart will not let me speak about it anymore. But I will tell you , it hasn't ended and never will." (Just found out they had three legged wooden tables back then , which is awesome asf)

Ipy was a tad taken aback by this display however she sat down with him and smiled. When he spoke of ay's words a furrow appeared in her brow. "Forgotten? Never. Your monuments will always tell your story, Pharaoh." She gazed out at the crowd. "You rule over many people. Perhaps not all of the people of all generations after will know of you but I do believe most shall. Do not fear, kind Pharaoh. Your deeds and conduct will secede you." She offered a comforting smile. Lilystar88 Her words were truly melodious to Akhenaten. It was nice to hear platitudes, instead of solutions. No one was hinting that the Hittite King's daughter was still a virgin, and good for marriage -- Nefertiti wasn't snapping at him out of fear that he'd ever take another wife. He didn't quite believe her, but it was comforting to hear. He was about to tell Ipy all about his subtle conflict with Ay on the subject of Aten, when the doors to the party hall were opened and the Queen was announced. Akhenaten gently, but quickly slid his hands from Ipy and stood up. Nefertiti was smiling, humbly bowing towards the Hittite King who was, as ever, ogling her beauty. He'd even gone so far as to suggest he take Setepenre or Tasherit, one of his youngest two daughter's, as a wife once they came of age. "Where is my husband?" she announced. "He excused himself some time ago -- I have no doubt he'll be back soon," Ay chimed in, a brow raised but his eyes fixed solely on one point in the room -- not in a search for Akehanten. Pharaoh glowered. The man wasn't even a vizier, and still so presumptuous. Akhenaten turned to leave but not before slipping behind the futon and whispering in Ipy's ear. "Meet me tonight in the temple to Aten," he said. Then he realized how untoward that sounded so he added, "nothing will happen that will leave you without your virtue -- I merely enjoy your company," and with that he planted a soft kiss behind her ear and dissipated into the shadows. For a man so...oddly shaped, he was quite nimble and stealthy. Within ten minutes he was up at the front again, in full Pharaoh finery -- he greeted his wife and sat down on his throne, now happier than he was before -- so he was able to engage with the Hittite King a bit more (insufferable fool that he was). Yet, every now and then he would steal glances towards where Ipy sat -- not very often, and only when Nefertiti was distracted. But enough to keep him with a smile on his face.

I became shy and untrusting of everything and everyone I come across. " She lightly touched a golden vas that was placed as decor on the three legged wooden table that stood beside her. "My heart will not let me speak about it anymore. But I will tell you , it hasn't ended and never will." (Just found out they had three legged wooden tables back then , which is awesome asf) [[lol how'd you find that one out?]] Thutsef curled his fist into his hand so hard his nails dug into his palm. He tried so hard to keep his face understanding and sympathetic but it just bubbled up, overwhelmed him -- unbelievable anger that he'd never felt before overtaking him and, and-- His fist slammed into the wall, there was a soft crack, not of the stone but of the very bones inside of him. He didn't feel it though, he was sweating and frowning. "Ten?" he whispered. Ten?! How the f*** could she just be...stolen, like that. Her soul taken away from her before it had even had a chance to spread it's wings. Thutsef turned to Cleo, his hand now dropped from the wall but his body still primed for a fight, his shoulders and pectoral muscles inflated and his head leered forward that way men did when they were about to come to blows. "Does he still breathe?" he asked.

(Aww you're cute! Lilystar88 ) Ipy nodded her agreement to meet him and watched as he slipped away. Her eyes flickered over to Nefertiti. Her beauty was that of legend and now Ipy could see why. She was graceful and elegant. She held her power with her. Ipy sipped her drink as she watched the queen. To her surprise, the Pharaoh glanced at her. She did not react should the queen be watching. Instead she raised her glass richer lips, a silent and subtle acknowledgement of his gaze. As the party died down and her services were no longer required, she left and slipped outside. The night was balmy but there was a nice breeze that fluttered through her hair, now free of the beads. She crept into the temple and bowed in worship. It will not look suspicious if I am caught here. She clutched the broach in her hand as she got to her knees and lowered her torso parallel to the floor, palms down flat on the smooth rock of the temple. [[lol I think I look like a troll in that picture. I can be cute, sometimes. Not on days like this though. Legit like a foot of snow here (hasn't happened in at least 20 year) -- and no one's got the ability to cope with snow here? So like, we don't drive the cars for it and we don't have the gritters or services for it neither.]] The hours were painstakingly slow for Akhenaten -- but eventually the lumbering barbarian formally known as the King of the Hittites became sleepy and took to his bed. After that, Ay left and then Nefertiti retired. Finally, Pharaoh could leave his throne and leave for his quarters. He got dressed in a simple white linen kilt [[ I don't know what another word for manskirt is]] and double checked to make sure his head was as smooth is it could be. His hairline was vastly reseeded by now so he refused to have a pathetic, insulting patch of hair where he used to have masses of wavy locks. No, he'd rather be bald. He put on a very wide white linen shirt to somewhat shield his belly from view before leaving his private chambers via secret passage and making his way towards the chapel. He got in silently, and there saw Ipy, face flat to the floor. He smiled, there was no one there, he could reveal himself now. "Tell me, my lady, do you truly believe in Aten?" he asked, leaning against one of the columns by the side of the main alter. "And don't you dare tell me some lie just cause you think it's what I want to hear," he added, still smiling and his tone still good-natured.

[[Also I find it hilarious that ancient egyptians had the foresight to prepare their dead with peerless preservation techniques so the biological matter of people's bodies can still be accessed for DNA testing, but didn't realise that if everyone marries their sister each generation DNA testing becomes almost impossible cause everybody is so fckin inbred. ]]

(Gritters? Is that the salt tha5 goes on the roads? Lilystar88 ) Ipy jumped a tad, coming up to sit on her knees, and looked behind her. "My King," she said, falling back down in a bow at his feet. Now that she could pay proper reverence she did such. With her face to the ground she replied, "I trust that the words of the Pharaoh are true. If you say Aten is real, I believe he is." Her hair was a curtain falling down around her as she lay prostrate. Her voice was a tad muffled due to her positioning but still words could be deciphered. Her outstretched hand held a glimmering object. The broach. Akehnaten sighed. He was thirty six years of age, he should be used to people bending their words around him to try and win his favour. Yet, it wasn't what he wanted. Perhaps that was why he fell for Nefertiti when they had both been youth's -- the Queen was bold in the way she spoke, but now she'd waxed into habits her father had put in place, trying to please him but inwardly he knew she was bitter at the fact he would never stop yearning for a son. It was the only way he could assure his line was continued -- the line of his father, and all his father's before him. For no doubt if he left Meritaten as his heir she'd be married off and her throne stolen from her. It was always what happened with women Pharaoh's. There wasn't much he could do to change that, especially when he died. But Akhenaten forcibly banished that stressful thought from his mind, instead placing his hands on top of Ipy's and pulling her up to her feet before pressing the broach to her chest -- letting her know his mind was made up, and that she should keep the item. "Don't be afraid to tell me what you really think, my lady," Akhenaten said, his tenderness ever-portrayed in his umber gaze. "Honesty is the the most desirable thing to any leader, even if the truth is hard to hear."
