Foxpaw
"Is there anything special we do on dawn patrols?" The golden apprentice began bouncing up and down like a little rabbit in excitement despite the early morning.

Foxpaw
His face kind of fell a bit. "That's not really fun-"
His meow was interrupted by Bearstep's growl. "Foxpaw, the dawn patrol is just as important as any other patrol. We check all four corners of our territory, marking our borders with fresh markers to keep out unwanted guests."

Bearstep
The large dark furred tom grunted in pleasure. He was glad the younger warrior agreed with him, because after all he was right, but especially now that Birchstorm was taking the initiative to train an apprentice. Hazelwing had made a good choice with this one; maybe it would teach both toms about responsibility and loyalty.

Both Foxpaw and Bearstep turn and frowned at Birchstorm's comment. Bearstep rolled his eyes. Just when the tom was showing progress, then he goes and says something like that.
"Birchstorm, you might help Foxpaw in this teachable moment, but is there anything different that you smell about this border beside the training area?"

Bearstep
The tom sat down outside the training sand. "Well?" The tom growled expectantly.

Bearstep
"Sight is just as important as scent," Bearstep replied, walking past the group into the training area. He pushed back the sand and revealed some horribly scented dung. "Foxpaw, this is fox dung. And it's fresh too. Birchstorm, now that you have the scent, where has the fox gone?"

"Foxpaw, this is fox dung. And it's fresh too. Birchstorm, now that you have the scent, where has the fox gone?" Birchstorm scented the air again. "I think that the fox has gone towards the border. It might be leaving the territory already."

Bearstep
The large tom nodded. "Good. The fox went upstream, away from our territory, but just to be safe, Foxpaw come over here and freshly mark the border."
The apprentice's eyes widened. "Y-you want me to do it?"
The deputy's whiskers twitched. "Well you're going to be doing it a lot as a warrior, you may as well start now."
Foxpaw proudly puffed out his chest and trotted over to the border, a clearing between two trees beside the stream where he appeared to expertly mark the land with his urine. When he finished, he happily made his way back over to the small group of cats.
"I know you're proud of your work, Foxpaw," Bearstep growled. "But let's not forget that this patrol is only the dawn patrol. The nightly patrol will remark the area so you don't have to soak it next time." The tom then chuckled loudly before padding off downstream into the Moon Lit Forest.

Leopardheart walked out of the warriors' den sluggishly. She was still tired from the night before and wished she could sleep long hours like her brother, Blackfire. No matter how many times she would try to wake him up, he would not wake up.
I guess it kind of is early, Leopardheart thought. She stretched some and shook her fur, flinging small bits of moss all over.

Cindercloud
A pretty grey tabby sat by the prey pile munching quietly on a sparrow. She flicked her tail behind her in contentment as she devoured the small bird.

"Good morning, Cindercloud!" Leopardheart greeted the grey tabby with a wave of her tail. She grabbed a plump mouse from the prey pile and sat near her Clanmate.

Cindercloud
The she-cat raised her head and meowed a greeting back. "Good morning to you too, it's definitely going to be hot today." She replied, taking another bite out of her meal.

Leopardheart nodded in agreement. It was only morning and it felt like her pelt was going to catch fire at any moment. "Prey might be plentiful in greenleaf but the sun can be a bit much," she mewed before taking a bite from her mouse.

Bearstep nipped sharply at the tom's heel, making the young warrior slow even more. He knew the cat didn't mean to, but Bearstep needed him to know his boundaries. "We will mark the border near Moon Lit Rock and then we will return to camp," he meowed, announcing to the small group as they got deeper into the forest.

Leopardheart chuckled at Cindercloud. "I might end up doing the same thing if it gets too much hotter out here!" she mewed. She took a few more bites of her mouse, finishing it. She licked her chops and buried the remains.

Cindercloud
"Care to go hunting with me?" The she-cat meowed, glancing up at the rising sun. Her paws itched to get out and run. "The orchard hasn't been hunted in for several moons. Maybe we'll find some large, plump prey for the clan."

Leopardheart got to her paws. "Sure!" she mewed, waving her tail. She wanted to go do something before it became too much hotter to do anything.
