Poppypaw rolled her eyes, "Yeah, whatever. I didn't "conjure" you." she mewed, standing up and planning on figuring out how to leave. She just had to wake up, right?

"Are you sure? You're the one dreaming here...but, if not, wake up then." Ambershade shrugged. She gave a grin hidden behind dark wisps. Poppypaw was one with quite the attitude. Too bad she was practically worthless compared to her clanmates. "Or...are you incapable of doing so? Like...many other things."

Poppypaw bristled, "What's that supposed to mean?" she snapped, glaring at the she-cat.

"Your dream. Your choice what it means. Oh Poppypaw. You're strong on the outside no doubt...but inside...well, who's to say I'm not your innermost thoughts? ...a name. I'm of your creation, what am I to be called?" Ambershade tipped her head, floating near the apprentice, orange eyes like balls of fire.

"How about Dungface?" Poppypaw snapped, getting tired of her stupid riddles. She lashed her tail, clearly irritated.

"Can I call you Useless then? It's ringing. So small and trite, brave and bold you seem...but yet...you can't do much, can you? Can we? Dungface and Poppypaw, useless...well, then again...I can leave. I am just your thoughts. You...can you leave? Useless. You are..." Ambershade soothed, filing away the name for later fuel to her fire.

Poppypaw's fur fluffed up, "I'm not small!" she snapped, "I'm not my mentor." she lashed her tail. She did admit to be lacking in some of her skills, seeing how Shortcloud always seemed to be busy doing something else.

"No...no, you're right! We're strong!" Ambershade seemed to change moods, hopeful and strong, only to have her face warp into a sneering hatefulness. She whisked a wispy tail. "But our mentor is our mentor because we're so small. Shoved us under a mouse like a nut, two small things in a too big world. We hate how we'll be labeled in as that." She suddenly changed moods again, as though appearing as conflicting thoughts.
"We train hard! Loyal!...but, the others are surpassing me...the younger ones catch up...older apprentices always ahead. Use...less...." She rasped, wisping in and out.

"Do you ever shut up?" Poppypaw grumbled, but the words seemed to be getting to the apprentice. She hated how all the attention seemed to be on the others, how they were all praised when they hardly did anything.

"You speak to yourself. I am just your thoughts. You can shut me up...but I'll always be there...are the other apprentices really better? Hmph, it's not fair, but I don't want to sound whiny saying so..." Ambershade sneered, the mixing emotions in her voice sounding strange, different tones and volumes. This...this was fun. That sick twisted joy in seeing others crumble...Ambershade felt energized with that.

In an instant, Ambershade's figure blinked in and out and faded away, leaving a silent darkness around. No breeze, no moonlight, no leeway against tangled weeds and cloudy air. "tiny..." faint whispers sounded every few seconds, like fleeting thoughts.

Poppypaw huffed sitting back down as she thought about what she had said. After a moment, she shook her head, closing her eyes and wanting to wake back up in the apprentice's den.

Ambershade felt the progress was sound for the night. Slow and steady was the best route. She pushed the apprentice's mind from the Dark Forest, allowing her to wake up now.

Deadpaw's eye grew wide when he realized he had fallen right back into the Dark Forest, Can't I have a night of no dreams? he asked himself, turning his eye up to the blank sky above, Just one night with no dreams? "You think you're going to get anywhere if you keep moping around camp like a little lost kitten?" a sharp snap sounded behind him. Deadpaw jumped in fright and wheeling around to face the dark leader, "I-" he cut himself off, have about apologized, but he quickly remembered Adderstar's claws, "S-Splashecho wasn't going to take me out, s-she's too distracted l-looking f-for Rain-f-fall." "When your mentor won't take you out, you go out on your own, Deadpaw!" Adderstar snapped, "Take any cat with you or take none, it matters not! You should always be furthering your training! You will never become a warrior at this rate!" "I-I"m sorry." he couldn't stop the words from squeaking from his lips and very soon regretted it. Adderstar jumped him. The blackness of the dark leader quickly pinned him down, a growl rumbling like a lion in his throat, "What did you say?" he let out slowly. "I-I didn't-" Deadpaw cut off with a fearful whimper as the dark leader's claws held his face pressed against the black dirt. He flattened his ears and found that he couldn't move because of Adderstar's pin. "You are pathetic." Adderstar spat harshly, "How can anyone take you seriously if you show nothing but submission and fear to all? I don't know what Robinstar sees in you, but you can't become anything!" He suddenly threw Deadpaw to the side, his claws catching the tom's black and white fur and tearing it. Deadpaw whimpered again when he hit the ground rather hard. He shakily pulled himself up from the ground, crouched in terror as his fur spiked his fear, could he move his tail, it would've been tucked under him, "I-I can be a warrior!" he mewed quickly, "I-I can fight for SkyClan, I can-" "It isn't SkyClan you should be fighting for." Adderstar cut him off with a quick snap, his tone lashing like a whip. Deadpaw flinched and fell silent. His wide blue eye stared at Adderstar with surprise, if he wasn't training for SkyClan then what was he training for? RiverClan? He thought wearily, Adderstar had been born and raised in RiverClan before he turned the forest to darkness alongside Robinstar. No. He told himself, a sobering realization settled the fear in his bones, Adderstar has no care for any of the Clans... He lowered his head, turning his eye from the dark leader as his heart pounded in fear, "I...I can fight for you." "Can you?" Adderstar barked sharply, "Can you really fight for me? You can't even fight for yourself!" "You'll teach me!" Deadpaw replied quickly, he felt desperate for this cat's approval, "I'll do everything you say! I'll learn!" Adderstar took slow steps toward him and Deadpaw lowered himself to the ground, "Good." The leader stated bluntly, "Now when you return to camp you will quit your moping. The Clans turned their backs on you so you turn their backs on them, focus solely on your training. You'll show them all Deadpaw." The apprentice nodded, unable to meet Adderstar's gaze, he had a fear in his heart that would guide him to obeying the leader, but his mind held nothing but fear, What did I get myself into?

Ambershade inspected her claws, but gazed down from her trees as she smirked at Adderstar and Deadpaw. Hah, she knew what pathetic sons were like. Desperate for attention and success. She hoped Deadpaw would live long enough to actually be interesting. She smirked, thinking about how easy it was to rile up Poppypaw. She wondered how many apprentices she could twist.

Meadowbrook slowly opened her eyes, confused at the sheet darkness and heaviness of what clearly was a dream. She felt uneasy, an idea of what this place was...but...she also felt...unafraid, interested in this place.

Greystrike watched Meadowbrook from a bit of a distance, narrowing her eyes contentedly. She padded out of the shadows and greeted her, a silky tone to her mew. "Meadowbrook, welcome." she said, her tail flicking lazily.

Meadowbrook's ears perked as she heard a rather chilling yet also soothing voice. The young tunnler turned to look at the she-cat, eyes wide with curious wonder.
"How...do you know my name? Who are you?" She tipped her head.

Greystrike sat down and wrapped her tail around her paws. "my name is Greystrike, and I was once a tunneler of WindClan....much like you are now." she purred affectionately

Meadowbrook looked suspicious, only to inspect the she-cat. Hm. She was certainly muscled like a tunnler, with broad shoulders and strong paws. Yet, she was also small like nearly all Windclan cats. Meadowbrook didn't think she was lying.
She felt her ears flatten in anger. "Yeah, I'm a tunnler. One of the many that the moor-runners want to shut down and keep us under their paws..." She mewed bitterly.

Greystrike scoffed. "When I was in WindClan there was talk of moving WindClan entirely underground, and now they want to get rid of tunnelers all together? Tunnelers are the backbone of the clan. It doesn't help that that pathetic leader of yours is a moor runner either."

Meadowbrook flinched. Swiftstar was a good leader, he was...he was a moor-runner, wasn't he? Meadowbrook frowned. Swiftstar, Leafclaw, Scarstar, Morningpath, all the leadership consisted of Moor-Runners. It made her pelt crawl. Who was to stop them, who was to represent tunnlers?
She sighed. "I wish I lived when you did then. The moor-runners outnumber us nearly 2 to 1...and my family is divided. Stonepath and I are alone in tunnling in our family...they're treating us like fools." She growled, not knowing why she was saying all this to a stranger in a place that clearly was not Starclan.
Not that she wanted to see Starclan right now. They had punished an innocent Lavandersun, allowed coce breakers to go unpunished and had chosen a cat hardly older than she was to lead. She looked at Greystrike.

Greystrike saw Meadowbrook look around. "I see you noticed this isn't StarClan....do you want to know why I'm here?" She paused a moment, then continued, tail lashing. "StarClan punished me for trying to make tunnelers equal to moor runners. You know how the other clans see WindClan right? The fastest, the swift...no one even knows about the tunnels. But I tried to make tunnelers as well known and as feared as moor runners....but StarClan punished me...I was exiled from my clan, my home...I was forced to live the rest of my life in solitude...all because I was a tunneler." She shook her head. "I suppose I shouldnt be surprised that WindClan wants to get rid of the tunnels...after all it was easy enough to get rid of me." While Greystrike had told the half-truth she had conveniently left out the few murders she had committed herself in the name of more tunnels.

Meadowbrook looked stunned, the she-cat's voice simply hard to ignore. She scowled. "How dare they? And the clan let it happen? What if they start punishing the tunnlers now? H-how can I possibly stop that?" She begged.
"I...I don't care if this is Starclan or not. So far, Starclan has taken my mother, allowed my father to dissapear, allowed wind vortexes to harm my home...and the half-breed code breaking...it makes me...angry." She growled.

Greystrike smiled sypathetically and then continued on. "StarClan has this bad habit of acting like they're in control and then as soon as we need them they vanish." She stood and padded closer to Meadowbrook. "If only there was a way for you to show Swiftstar and the rest of the moor runners that tunnelers don't need moor runners to protect you...you are strong enough without them."

"We are...we are much stronger than them!" Meadowbrook snarled in agreement. "How? How...can I prove it?"

|
|
Post by Firebelly on Dec 27, 2016 12:23:01 GMT -5
Greystrike curled her tail in satisfaction. "Maybe...maybe someone needs to show the moor runners just how strong tunnelers are. After all...moor runners are the smallest cats of all the clans...tunnelers are muscular, strong...powerful..."

"Do you...mean me? I...I dunno. I'm hardly a showcase alone...the clan already probably thinks I'm a fool...I want it, more than anything, to show that tunnlers are just as good." Meadowbrook doubted, head falling in angered dissapointment.
