- - - AVERSION and ASCENSION
- - - Joining PageHello! Welcome to the page where you join at for Aversion and Ascension, an Avatar the Last Airbender-Legend of Korra roleplay; the basic premise of the story is that we are over a thousand years into the future. The world, though still with the Avatar elements we know and love (bending, the odd animals, and eccentric character looks) is modernized. I wouldn't say it's up to par of our level, but possibly in the late 1990s and early 2000s for us! There are some technology we could see (computers, videogames, ipods, flipphones or mobile handhelds for communication) and some we won't see (hovercrafts, laser technology, high tech stuff) and while it is entirely possible for brand names to pop-up [Future Industries; Cabbage Corporate], I'd recommend not bringing our own real life corporate giants into the roleplay excessively!
This page is essentially where you claim, if you have not pm'd a claim, and create a rough copy of each character. We can discuss plots and other details on this page also; such as how characters meet, and other things. The character page is the formal copy where you can put your character (once approved), add changes, photos, or throw in some random details and say: "hey go check out this funny adventure I theorized them having!" and also quotes. I love quotes.
Anyways! I think the most whacky parts of the form you see is the Nationality and Birth Year.
We will begin with Nationality. While the Republics have become a unionized and blended world, Bending still sticks to the region it is most prominent. There are exceptions, of course, and I highly recommend making your character as unique as possible! If you're having trouble, refer to the map on the main page and below to figure out where you character may be from! That said:
— a Earthbender would be most likely from the Purva Republic as it takes up most the former Earth Kingdom. However, the Daksina Republic also would be possible as it encompasses the southern coast of the former Earth Kingdom . — a Firebender almost exclusively would be found with Vesta nationality. — a Waterbender would be from North Coast, however, with the sudden unification it is possible the families to move inland and to island cities. — a Airbender could come from Uttara, Daksina, or Vesta if born in a temple or near the temple locations. However, it is not unlikely for a family to live in Purva or anywhere suburban with the modernization of the world. — Being born in Republic City is an odd one. If their birth parents are of different nationality, a person would be granted nationality of their mother, as she is the caregiver.
Next up the year. For the birth, take the current year and subtract it by their age. That's easy. But the Chinese Zodiac year? You might be asking, how would I subtract that? Well, that's easy! The current year in the roleplay is the Year of the Pig. In order, below, you'll find the animals listed orderly from 1-12. Start with your character's current age and subtract. When you hit 0 that's their Chinese Zodiac:
1. Rat | 7. Horse | 2. Ox | 8. Sheep | 3. Tiger | 9. Monkey | 4. Rabbit | 10. Rooster | 5. Dragon | 11. Dog | 6. Snake | 12. Pig |

EMIL ARTOOTRA[ Republic of Vesta]
[ DOB. 1269 AG — Year of the Rabbit ]
Althea Koofus [ Republic of Vesta ]
Plum Artutora [ Republic of Vesta ]
There are a lot of things Emil hates about Emil. For one: he inherited his mother's tic, the woman he detests most. His left eye commonly twitches when he's excited or frustrated, and he often slaps at it to get it to stop, more often than not resulting in some swelling and eye watering. This very tic has gotten both him and Ezra into various binds in the past, though the dynamic duo always seems to come out on top. Second: He developed his mother's inherently stubborn attitude. Which, again, has gotten him and Ezra into trouble in the past, but more on that later.
Emil is of average height, standing at 5'11" tall and weighing in at around one hundred and ninety pounds. He has a very tone, athletic build, as his 'job' requires it. He has strong legs, as he often finds himself in situations he has to run from, as well as thick forearms due to archery. Though with every positive, there is a negative. Emil often has bandages covering his left elbow all the way to his knuckles. This is due to the constant rubbing of the bowstring against his arm, and accidentally stabbing his purlicue over and over again... He is a rather... lazy practitioner, but don't let that fact fool you into thinking he's no good. In fact, it's quite the opposite! The two of them have made a small fortune off of Emil's archery skills. He also has scars riddled all along the bottom of his feet due to running barefoot over rocks as a child... yes he was quite troublesome, and expensive, to deal with as a kid.
The third thing Emil hates about Emil: His beautiful, mesmerizing, dazzling, golden colored eyes. Yes, you guessed it, he got those from his mom, and he hates them. He'd much rather have common dark brown eyes like his father had. His medium length hair is dark brown in color and, with a bit of help from hair gel [that he gets from 'one of his guys'] he keeps it swept back off of his face. His mother hates it, because his face is so chiseled, but he also has a light layer of facial hair starting just below his cheek bones, on his neck, his jawline, above his upper lip and around his mouth. This is actually something he loves, as it's very similarly styled to his fathers... well... to the picture he has of the man who may or may not be his father.
Similar to his partner in crime, Ezra, Emil wears very simple clothing that help him maximize his abilities... however illegal or... immoral they may be. For the most part, he wears darker colored pants, whether they be black, navy blue, gray, what have you. His shirts, again, consist of darker colors, but you never really see those because of the dark green cloak he always wears. Why does he wear it you ask? You know why. It was his dads. Emil keeps various tools hidden under his cloak, of which I will not divulge the secret to, as that would be wrong to rat out Emil before he even got the chance to do anything wrong.
THE ARCHER
Emil is always looking out for numero uno!... That being Ezra. Ezra may not want to believe it, but Emil knows that his best friend is the Avatar and won't let anything happen to him, even if it means his life is on the line. He also is rather compulsive when he has the upper hand and can often back himself into a corner when he's far in the lead, this goes for more than gambling mind you. That being said, he usually comes out on top, but this is due to his silver tongue. Yes, Emil has a way with words that others can only dream about. There are very few situations that he can't talk his way out of but there were a couple of times where his talking just got himself, and Ezra, into more trouble. [see Ezra for more details] When it gets down to it though, Emil can get down and dirty with the best of 'em and refuses to let anyone get the upper hand on him.
He took his father's last name, despite him not being there for the entirety of his twenty years on this planet. Emil's reasoning behind it is 'I think it's cool that it's the same backwards as it is... regular. I think, hold on let me write that down and check.' [Yes that was an actual conversation he had with his mom when he changed his last name.] He also completely loathes his mother, despite her always loving and cherishing him no matter what. It's actually kind of sad if you think about it, but I plan on developing it through satire so it's okay. Also his father was the one that got him to pick up archery... well not really. Emil's mother has an old bow that she says used to belong to his father, thus, Emil trains everyday to be a perfect archer so when he meets his dad one day they'll have something to bond over. Which is, again, really sad... because this dude is never meeting his dad.

Oh oh oh! I love creating backstories. Okay. So I'm assuming they both lived in Nation City a long time? At least, my thoughts they met at 8-10. Ezra probably still has his mom, a firebender, around but his father is kinda like 'nah' meme and left (he's an airbender). Though his life is generally good Ezra just chooses to be #thuglife and gets into trouble.

The only difference is Ezra could care less for his father (in fact, he airbends the way he does to be better than those stuffy monks he hears about all the time); his mother is very kind, and sweet, but he hardly spends time with her or respects her when he's home but that's a rare thing.

Hey Briar! Welcome to the party! Hopefully someone will claim the People's Champion soon cause he at least can be used to start the RP. (I imagined Ezra and the Champion in an illegal Duel and whoops, that's Firebending not Airbending. Ha ha Emil let's scram!) and then the Champion is like ?????? and he and the Caretaker kinda look for them and it's like: hey dude. and the Teacher appears is like: "You're the Avatar" but Ezra is like: "Funny, that person died a long time ago. Ha ha do I look dead?" And well yeah. But I can modify it/just have random encounters with characters until more people join to actually start Team Avatar Officially.
No no we leave it at that. Then they can call out each other on the story: "No no, you didn't hit him with air, I hit him with an apple." "I thought rotting fruit came after the police showed up?" "You're just blind, I definitely threw an apple."

AMIAS SHOTOSU[ Republic of Vesta ]
[ DOB. 1270 AG — Year of the Dragon — ]
(Fire Lord) Alastair Shotosu [ Republic of Vesta ]
Lin Shotosu [ Republic of Vesta ]
Oh, the heir to the Fire Lord is quite the looker--not in the traditional, more conservative sense, depicted by stoic faces with rigid postures and flowing robes of silk, drawn into ancient scrolls, painted and etched into some of Vesta's historical walls and buildings, watching like distant (and disapproving) guardians of some kind. In many more ways than one, Amias barely resembles the former Fire Nation's past--let the people decide whether it's a good thing or not, and judging by how highly the public favors him, they seem to quite like the direction the nation is moving.
With a face, demeanor, and sparkling personality groomed for the camera, Amias, at times, closer resembles a pop music star than a member of an aristocracy that was once feared. He stands at a comfortable six foot even, with an ease of straight posture that carries itself effortlessly. His skin, fair but lightly tanned (in such a way that it seems natural, but you never really know, since celebrities these days do the absolute most to appear a certain way), is flawless, as are his straight, shaved, pearly white teeth, framed by just one dimple on the right side of his face--the obvious presence of an endless pool of money to pour into his looks. He's got a mop of dark brown curls that he styles just long enough for them to fall around his head in loose, easy ringlets, but short enough to only border on looking unprofessional. His hazel-green eyes, which appear to be slightly monolidded, as well as a faint splash of freckles on his cheeks and shoulders, seem to indicate some kind of mixed ancestry. All in all, his unique features , paired with the standardly handsome square jaw and boyish pout, contribute to a captivating television presence, to say the least.
Long-legged and lanky, with a thin, hard-bodied build, one might not be able to tell at first glance that this young man had been trained, somewhat secretly, given the modern taboo on bending, by expert Firebenders from practically the time he could walk. It's a combination of Amias's fast metabolism and inability to put on much weight in general, including masses of muscle. But his build does characterize his bending; rather than attack aggressively and relentlessly, as is typical of Firebenders, his style is more read-and-react, and using his opponent's energy against them. All that being said, he has a certain ease and grace--and to some, femininity--in his movements, not unlike that of a cat. With the confidence and self-assuredness that comes from his money and his status of being the heir to the Fire Throne, it's no surprise that he walks with shoulders thrown back and head held high.
As one might expect, given his status, Amias dresses very well; after all, he's a bit of a trendsetter, with the outfits he sports in public appearing in fashion catalogues not even a week later. Typically, however, his style is characterized by richness of both fabric and quality--think crimson and gold and navy blues, stripes and polka dots, velvet and silk trims, genuine leather, and designer tags on the back of them all. Even what he would call his 'casual' style isn't considered to be by the majority of people, but he seems to be quite comfortable in his collared shirts and dress jeans.
THE PRINCE
Fortune seems to have shone warmly on this young man, since at first glance, he seems to have almost been made to take the role he was born into. Amias has a captivating persona, typical of his birth year. Charming and confident, with his natural grace and unforced swagger, he effortlessly commands conversation--he's the master of interviews and the king of television. His genuine passion for life, as well as various topics on social justice, is obvious, and his manner of speaking makes one want to take his side.
But, above all, Amias is an academic. Exposed to the finest schooling in the Republic of Vesta, he has mastered the finer arts of learning, but, the arts of rhetoric and style and psychology along with them. His vocabulary is extensive, his speech an artfully and fastidiously designed collection of hand-picked words. In a time where appearances matter more than anything, when public opinion can be swayed and speculations can arise from a gesture or a glance, or a slip in body language, a large part of Amias's childhood was devoted to avoiding mistakes like those mentioned by all costs. So, is what he says and believes in truly genuine? Only the man himself would be able to answer that question truthfully, and he'll be damned before he brings any kind of shame to the Fire Throne, or to himself. But nobody would even dare to think that deeply about a figure like him in that way, when he seems so raw and honest.
As one might expect, however, a lot goes on behind closed doors in the Fire Palace. When left to his own devices, which isn't often, the Firebender is a mere shadow of his public persona. Sure, he knows how to flip it on like a light switch, but only a select few would be able to know the extent of his introversion. Amias is soft-spoken and shy, and nearly two decades spent obsessing over every little thing that could go wrong has made him incredibly anxious. He isn't just thorough--he's obsessive, a perfectionist at heart, and absolutely cannot stand to disappoint those who put any kind of trust in him. Even though his intentions are pure, simply for self-preservation, when things go wrong--well, the results aren't pretty.
But even though he lives to please and play the pretty part, Amias hates what he's being held to. Part of him loathes the responsibility, and now, the weight of a tense world rested partially on his shoulders. As much as he wants to do well, he'd rather be rid of it all than carry it out to its rightful end. But what will he do about it? Nothing, probably. How can he, with his hands tied?
- His name is pronounced um-EYE-us - Doesn't have many close friends. Fame has a way of isolating people. - more tba
