”Aubriana Ketola is Bound to Falke Montridge.”
That one sentence was still ringing in Ana's mind minutes later. She was feeling much better than she had moments ago all thanks to Yvonne, but she was sure she was about to get nervous all over again the closer she got to Falke.
The blonde looked to Yvonne once more, silently wondering if they should leave one another's side right now. What if Ana had another attack? What if something happened with Yvonne? Why was Ana already so fond to the princess? So attached? The two wouldn't even be family for another week so why was Ana already feeling like Yvonne was family?
She pushed aside those thoughts when, after turning a bit from Yvonne, she spotted Falke Montridge. She had to admit to herself that he was handsome in that rugged way. He looked like a fighter even from afar. Strong and capable, the type of guy that made it known not to mess with him just by his physical appearance. Falke was practically the exact opposite of Ana. Was that how they were chosen to be Bound? Were the monarchs toying with the saying that opposites attracted? With this it seemed as much.
After some moments Ana reluctantly left Yvonne's side. She mentally told herself that she would be back later; she felt like she still had some unspoken conversations with the other princess yet.
Falke wasn't too far from where Ana had been standing just moments before. As she approached the male she offered a warm greeting in the form of a forced smile. This is it. This is the man you're destined to be with for the rest of your life. This is your soon to be husband, the father of your future children. Man, if she didn't make a good first impression the rest of their lives were gonna be awkward.
Though, when did she ever make a good first impression?
So of course fate had it that she messed up. "H-hello, um, ah... Prince Falke." Oh yeah, stuttering was a great first impression. And that greeting? Flawless. Outstanding.
God, I'm worthless.
--- [ sorry if this is a bit short - tried to keep it open so yvonne could still respond to everything ;w; ]

Jericho Woodgard, to say the least, had been nervous about showing up at this ball in the famous Levios Palace. He remembered hearing stories about it when he was younger -- tales and rumors, and even dreaming about going into its enchanting hallways. Of course, at the time of his dreams, it had been an impossibility for him to walk throughout the palace. He had been nothing but a commoner, and a low-class one at that. His parents had passed away when he was young, but not before his mother had been able to tell him those enchanting tales. In some regard, in the faint memories of being in the orphanage packed full of other dirty, unwanted children, Jericho had daydreamed of being swept away into the lives of the rich -- of being adopted by one of them, and never having to worry again.
So yes, when King Tyrios had indeed rescued him, it had been all that Jericho had dreamed of. His old life has fallen away and now, he only had the faint wisps of memories that still clung to him, impossible to rid himself of. He had grown to adore the king and Jericho knew that he would do whatever it took to make Tyrios happy. Jericho had long forgotten the names of his parents, so it was only befitting that he saw the king as his father. And ever since, he had done his best to make the king proud and learn all that he could so that one day, he could become a king.
Still, when they had first arrived at the Levios Palace, Jericho hadn't been able to hide his awe at the beauty of it. It was even grander than he had been led to believe. He had first walked into the palace and stood near the entrance, his jaw slightly agape as he took in the beauty of it all. Having seen what poverty looked like, Jericho no longer took anything for granted and standing in the Levios Palace had truly left him speechless. He truly appreciated it all -- the gorgeous room, the ball itself, and King Tyrios for rescuing him even more.
After his initial awestruck feeling fell away, Jericho had looked around to see the other princes and princesses -- the real ones, rather, because wasn't he just a phony? He belonged here least of all, and Jericho knew that. Even Aubriana Ketola, nothing but a noble, belonged here more than he did. He had watched her run off and start panicking by the stairs, but he hadn't paid much attention to her after seeing Yvonne Blacktyde approach her. Jericho had been stunned that Yvonne was just as perfect as he had always heard.
And then, the Bindings had been announced. Jericho had been standing by himself, a simple glass of something he didn't recognize but enjoyed the taste of in his hand as he listened to the Bindings be listed off. His stomach dropped when he heard that Aubriana Ketola and Falke Montridge would inherit Amalthea. At first, Jericho had figured that the other kings and queens had objected to him becoming king of any of the kingdoms since, well, Jericho had assumed that he would inherit Amalthea. But that was fine. Although he had prepared himself to be a king, he would settle for something less. Or maybe he wouldn't even be bound. Perhaps everyone had objected to marrying their daughters off to a simple orphan.
Until he heard the announcement. Amelia Rosenrow is bound to Jericho Woodgard, and they shall inherit the kingdom of Dialla. Well, there went all of his fears, only to be replaced by more, and his stomach suddenly felt worse than before. Of all the princesses here to be married off to, Jericho had been bound to Amelia. The one that seemed to be the strongest, the most hard-headed, the one that knew how to run a kingdom. Of everyone that could have been chosen, why did Jericho have to be bound to her?
And then to have to rule over a different kingdom, to make matters even worse! It had taken forever for Amalthea to accept him, and at least there he had the fear of King Tyrios to support him. What would Jericho have behind him to make the citizens of Dialla accept him? He was sure that they knew just as well as everyone else that he was nothing but an orphan. It seemed to cling to his skin and mark him wherever he went.
He didn't even hear the other Bindings or have much of an opinion on any of them. His heart was pounding, his mind was a whirlwind of fears and questions and trying to come up with solutions to questions and problems that hadn't even arisen yet. He wanted to take a breath, to step out of the palace into the outdoors where he could safely breathe, but Jericho knew that he was stuck here.
And he was even more stuck as Amelia approached him. Heart still pounding, he tried to push his fear to the pit of his stomach and stop his worry from showing on his face. Jericho tried his best to look cool, calm, and collected -- an act that he had somewhat managed to master over his course of being the prince of Amalthea. So he put on his best smile, and reminded himself to breathe. Amelia was beautiful, and that made him even more nervous. Beautiful, smart, prosperous... the opposite of who Jericho had expected to end up with. In all reality, he figured he would be thrown together with Sidero Rosenrow. Wasn't she the unwanted Rosenrow sister?
He almost buckled under the scrutiny of her gaze, but Jericho managed to remain strong. "Hi... umm... Hello, Princess Amelia." Oh wow, what was he doing? Was he even supposed to call her princess? Was Jericho just supposed to refer to her by her first name now? How formal did he have to remain with her now that they were bound? All of his training, all of the calmness that he tried to instill in himself, couldn't prepare him for the stress that he felt right now. He felt like a bug under a magnifying glass with her looking him up and down. "It's nice to... uh... be bound... yeah, bound to you..."
Oh, he just needed to stop talking right now.

Zacchaeus Derrisun viewed himself, as some may say, as a gift to the world. He was handsome, he was a hit with the ladies, and he was a prince. What else could the world ask for? Thanks to this, Zac had entered the Levios Palace with a confident air about him because that was just simply how he was. He had spent the night so far flitting from attractive lady to attractive lady, having a good time until someone else, someone better, caught his eye and he decided that they deserved the opportunity to be in the presence of greatness, the presence of beauty, the presence of everything that was amazing: Zaccheus Derrisun. Yeah... he was a bit of a narcissist.
Part of the reason that Zac found himself flitting about the ball so much was that he had an attention span easily the size of a gnat. One moment, he would be smiling and happily enjoying the conversation at hand and then the next, he would get distracted by something more interesting and find himself heading towards it like a fly drawn to the light. He was on a consistent mission to find something that was more fun than what was at hand. To some it would seem like a downside but to Zac, it was just one of the many qualities that made him amazing.
The one constant in his life tonight and every night before this one was his sister. Eunice. Even as he found himself darting from conversation to conversation across the floor, he constantly kept one eye on his baby sister. He always had one eye on her, and she was the one thing in his life that to him, never got boring. Keeping her safe, watching over her, and making sure she was always happy had always been Zac's greatest goal in life, and tonight would be no different. He adored her beyond belief, even when they fought like siblings tended to do, Zac always had her back, and he was sure that Eunice knew that. He watched, somewhat suspiciously, as she approached someone that must have been a prince. Zac wasn't sure who he was. Sure, Zac knew all of the princesses by name (he'd been busy looking to see who his future wife was), but the princes were a lost cause on him. Zac hadn't cared enough to know.
He didn't have much time to dwell on who Eunice was talking to before they started announcing the Bindings. Zac was excited, to say the least. He had spent so much time trying to decide which princess would be lucky enough to be blessed as his wife that he had barely thought about anything else the last couple of weeks. Zac had broken it down into a science, and his teachers had looked annoyed that Zac was able to put so much thought into something that seemed so trivial when he put no such time into his own studies. After all, learning things was boring.
Zac was sure he knew who he would end up with. It wouldn't be Aubriana Ketola -- he was too good for a noble. The Rosenrow sisters... well, Amelia Rosenrow seemed like too much for him. She seemed too strict, too serious. Zac deserved someone a little more laid-back. Sidero Rosenrow was also not good enough for him. He had heard the rumors just as everyone else had, and he didn't want to be bound to a girl whose own father didn't want her. And he had trust in his parents to make sure that he wasn't bound to her, either.
That left him with Lavinia Rosenrow, and Yvonne Blacktyde. Obviously, he would end up with Yvonne. She was the vision of perfection in every way, and Zac was also a vision of perfection in every way. What better Binding than them? He was so sure of it that he barely even paid attention as they listed off the Bindings.
Well, except that they started off with Yvonne Blacktyde and announced that she was not Bound to Zac, but instead to Thalon or something Montridge. Who even was that? Zac was shocked and now, he paid attention as he glared up at the person listing off the Bindings. What had his parents been thinking? Well, maybe it was because Zac and Yvonne together would have been too perfect, and that would have caused a war or something. Yes, that had to be the only logical explanation, and that was what Zac stuck with.
Sidero Rosenrow is bound to Zacchaeus Derrisun.
He was taken aback by the horror of it, and the look of disgust on Zac's face was evident. It only flashed on his face for a second before he brushed it away, replacing the look with his typical charming, award winning smile. As if he was pleased with the results of the Binding, even though inside, he was fuming. He had been so sure that he wouldn't end up with Sidero, that she would be the last person that Zac would end up with. He had thought Sidero would be Bound with that... that orphan from whatever kingdom it was, or anyone but him.
The only other Binding that Zac bothered remembering was Eunice's. Nikolai Blacktyde, and Eunice would become a queen. Well, Zac hadn't expected anything less, and he was happy for his sister. He tried to remember Nikolai and any rumors that may have surrounded him, but for the time being, Zac was drawing a total blank.
With the Bindings now announced, the crowd seemed to stir back up again and conversation resumed. It was as if the entire ball had been put on pause, and now the play button had been pressed. Zac excused himself from whoever it was he had been conversing with -- he had forgotten her name -- to look around for Sidero. The other Bound pairs seemed to be seeking each other out in the crowd, so Zac figured he might as well do the same.
He pushed his way through the crowd until he found himself by Sidero. He gently tapped her shoulder, a dazzling smile on his face as he did so. "Hello, you are Sidero Rosenrow, correct?" He asked, not even bothering to introduce himself. She had to know that he was the Zacchaeus Derrisun after all, right?

Amelia took her time time as she looked Jericho up and down. She couldn't tell as much about him as she'd like, but she could tell he was nervous and likely no happier than she was about this match. She took a silent moment to look up and down his body one more time. The orphan wasn't of true royal blood, though he must have gotten the same education and training as the rest of them if he were to be a king one day. A king. And Amelia would be his queen. She didn't exactly know how to feel about this, but she was glad to know her kingdom would be safe in her hands once she and Jericho inherited it.
He really wasn't that impressive as appearances went. Yes, he was good looking, but he wasn't any better than the other princes. They were quite an attractive group of royal children.
She listened to his words as he fumbled with what to say. Couldn't even speak properly under stress? She'd need teach him that. The last thing she needed was her husband breaking down in tears the first time they were put into a tough position. She stayed silent for a few more seconds before finally replying to Jericho's greeting. She finally smiled. Though it was forced, she had no doubt that the smile appeared easy and natural. It was something she'd perfected at a young age. She wasn't happy about this match, but she figured she needed to at least make an effort. After all, there was nothing they could do. Soon, Jericho would be her husband until the day one of them died.
"Jericho," she greeted, her voice steady. She tried not to betray any emotions and it was easy because she wasn't sure how to feel. Yes, there were other princes more suited to become her husband, but Jericho wasn't a horrible man. Plus, there had to be some level of insecurity around his origins. Maybe that would even make him more likely to give her what she wanted, make him more likely to go along with whatever she said. After all, she was the more experienced one when it came to running a kingdom, was she not?
"Yes, I agree. This Binding will greatly benefit the kingdom of Dialla," she said. She didn't talk about whether or not it would benefit her. In a way, it would. She would probably remain the more powerful one in the couple and she would now have a king to back up any decisions she made. With a different prince Bound to her, it might not happen that way. On the other hand, Amelia was almost insulted. There were plenty of others that would be more suited to be her husband. But instead she was Bound to a common orphan.
She didn't let any of this show because she figured it was only right to give her future husband a chance. Although, hadn't he already been given a second chance when he was rescued from whatever streets he had grown up on? Why should it be Amelia's responsibility to give him yet another chance? Well, she pushed all that aside for now. As far as she knew, Jericho hadn't messed up or anything as a prince.
"So," she began, her eyes wandering to the other couples that were beginning to seek their other halves out. She caught a few right away that didn't appear happy with their matches. And her eyes specifically followed Alexander and Zac. The two men wouldn't mess with her sisters if they knew what was good for them.
But that wasn't her focus right now.
No. She needed to feel Jericho out more and figure out how this relationship would end up playing out. Why had her father allowed her to be stuck with him, when she could flourish with another man?
She pushed the thoughts aside as she finished her thought from only moments ago. "So," she repeated, her dark green eyes finding their way back to Jericho's face. "I am truly honored to be Bound to a prince like yourself," she commented. She was doing a good job of hiding any misgivings and her feelings weren't exactly directed at Jericho. Even she knew that the man had done nothing wrong. He hadn't put the pair together and he didn't seem any happier than she was. In fact, if it was up to him, he'd probably choose anyone else. Amelia knew she was slightly intimidating. Either of her sisters would've likely been a better match for Jericho. But it was too late for that.
And then silence. What else was there to say? Amelia didn't want to make a fool out of herself by tripping over her words like Jericho had, but she didn't have anything that she was confident in saying. Plus, she barely knew the man and was expected to marry him. She knew she wasn't the only one that was struggling with this. She couldn't be. But what else could she say, exactly? What else could she do? Nothing. And that was the problem. Amelia wasn't used to feeling so unsure about herself, not knowing what to say. Of course, she didn't hint to Jericho that there was anything wrong. The same easy smile decorated her face. Her eyes stayed on his face for the most part, though they occasionally wandered the room to watch the other couples or check on her sisters.
"Maybe we should start by getting to know one another better," she suggested, though it sounded more like a statement than a question. It wasn't aggressive and wasn't exactly a demand, but a strong suggestion. She didn't really want to marry and move in with some creep. Yeah, she definitely didn't have much of a choice, but she could get their marriage called off if he was a creep, right?
As she looked at him, Amelia could only hope that Jericho knew how to lead a kingdom. He was a common orphan, pulled off of the streets. Did he really have the same experience and education as the rest of them? She didn't want to think any less of him because of his blood, but she couldn't help but have her worries. She refused to be brought down by someone that didn't know how to be a king.

Sidero Rosenrow ; Levios Palace, The Binding shocked, to say the least: response to the bindings & zac
Sidero stood close to the wall, digging her nails into her palms as she looked up at the announcer, announcing the pairings one by one. She dreaded hearing her name, she knew to expect nothing good, she'd probably be bound to one without any royal blood - the orphan - or perhaps someone with a history of abuse. There was no way anything good could come out of this.
Much to her surprise, she was the first of the Rosenrow sisters to be named and bound. Sidero Rosenrow is bound to Zacchaeus Derrisun. Her little heart all but stopped. She pressed her hand delicately over her heart, leaning further into the wall than she had moments before, begging herself to breathe. I'm going to be a Queen. The thought had never once crossed her mind. Sure, she had hoped that she would be given the chance to prove her worth to her father through her diplomatic skill, but never like this. She never imagined being the next face of a kingdom. The Kingdom of Addewid nonetheless. There as never a time in which she imagined herself being adorned in jewels upon jewels and now it was her future.
She collected herself, standing up right and moving herself toward a table covered in delicacies from all the kingdoms. She could feel her her heart in her stomach, her head was pounding. This was crazy. Surely she had heard that incorrectly? She grabbed a pastry, bringing it to her lips and eating it, a sort of coping method if you must. It was a small pastry and quickly it was gone. It grated her throat as it went down.
Zacchaeus Derrisun, son of King Gregor and Queen Winna, brother of Eunice Derrisun, and Heir to the Addewid throne. Sidero went over the facts in her head, to calm herself, but the facts in and of themselves were no more relaxing, Casanova, ladies man. Sidero dug her nails into her hands once more, looking around the room quickly to see the reactions of those closest to her as they were announced. Her sister Amelia was bound to the orphan, Lavinia was bound to one of the Blacktyde brothers, but not the one that would be King. If anyone were to be a Queen, besides the eldest sister, Sidero had been certain it would have been Lavinia.
A gentle tap on her shoulder startled her to her core. For a moment, she was frozen like a deer in headlights. She quickly gathered her senses, wanting to appear as though she were no fool. I am no fool, she told herself. Sidero smoothed out her dress and turned to whomever had tapped her on her shoulder. She was not surprised to come face to face with Zac, he was her betrothed now, after all. Sidero, being much shorter and much younger than the Addewid Heir, had to look up to see into his eyes. She was searching for kindness, but all she found was contempt.
Sidero fought back trembles, she could not show her fear, "Yes, I am." was her response. Say something more, you fool. There was a smile on his face and if Sidero had been any other girl, she would have melted right away, but she knew that he was no more excited to be bound to her as she was to be bound with him. She knew there was no way he would ever be loyal to her, nor would he ever love her. She was still a child, or she felt as one, and he was a man who, just based on pure rumor, wanted nothing to do with her.
"You must be Zacchaeus Derrisun," she spoke matter-of-factly, unemotional and practical. With that said, she curtsied to him - the proper thing to do - and as she rose she plastered a fake smile on her face, "How charming of you to seek me out, I would've thought you'd have ran off already. It's not everyday a Crown prince is bound to an unwanted princess, now is it?"

Thaleus Montridge ; Levios Palace, The Binding As the carriage pulled to a halt, Thaleus pulled his jacket closer to his body. He could feel a draft, but he wasn't sure where it was coming from. He looked across the carriage at his mother and father, who were deep in conversation, before rising. He looked to his little brother, almost wishing him luck before turning and dipping out of the carriage and stepping toward Levios Palace. Carriages lined the road leading up to the Palace and he felt his stomach churn at the amount of people within the Palace. Not that he had a dislike of people, he just wasn't well-versed in conversation, especially not small talk, and he was in no mood to make friends. He was here to complete his duty and to be bound to the soon to be future queen of Ithos.
He glided up the palace steps, taking care not to trip on the steps. He wasn't in the mood for new bruises, not that he ever was. Upon making it to the last step he was almost out of breath an he hoped that no one noticed him stop for a moment to regain his composure. It wouldn't be long before he would need a cane to help him along. It wasn't age that was kicking his butt, it was his lack of exercise and his height. He hoped it wouldn't be a problem in his marriage, but again he hoped.
Before he knew it, his feet had brought him into the ballroom. Within moments he was surrounded by young men and woman he had never met before, but knew from the color of their garb and the crests of their chests who they were - their names...not so much. He didn't care for names. Before his first interaction with one of his own standings he waved over a servant carrying a tray of Liquor, "What is this you have?" He asked curtly, lifting a cup and studying its contents. The servant opened his mouth to respond, but before he could Thaleus lifted a finger, a signal of 'Wait a moment' and downed the entire cup. He swallowed hard, taking another, "Keep these coming all night, if I find myself without a cup in my hand it's your head on a stake." The servant looked surprised, but quickly shook the fear and nodded, "Yes, your majesty." For a moment Thaleus wondered if he had been to harsh, but his mother's voice rang true in his head, 'Instill fear in those below you, my son; for it's not your strength that will bring them to their knees, but your power.' Ah, she had always been more on Thaleus's level, unlike his father who was 'Strength is the greatest power of all, blah, blah, blah.'
Thaleus moved across the ballroom, dodging those dancing, and making his way over to a seat where he cold relax his tired limbs. He had been up the entire night before reading the histories of all the kingdoms and he could feel the lack of sleep weighing him. He sipped his drink, holding it to his lips as he studied the room. Who is who? Gold and Red - Addewid: the vain and prideful; Silver, Gold, and White - Amalthea: the thieving and wild; Gold and Blue - Dialla: the fools and the idiots; his family, Silver and green, Ithos: the savage and crazed; and last but not least, Luria: the cunning and the backstabbers, black and turquoise.
He finished this second glass and before he knew it, another one was in its place. He smiled as he watched the servant scurry back to his post, holding the tray of drinks. Despite the binding and selling himself to someone else forever, maybe this wouldn't be so bad. Actually, he didn't really mind. It wasn't as if he was going to find a lover any other way, let alone one befitting enough to be Queen some day.
As the announcer began to pour out bindings, Thaleus relaxed into his seat. Yvonne Blacktyde is bound to Thaleus Montridge. So, he was bound to a Blacktyde? The youngest Blacktyde and the only woman here on the floor tonight even close to being worthy of Queen. And so she was to be, his Queen that is. He looked around the room for the bride-to-be, not entirely sure as to how she would look. From what he had heard, she was beautiful, but there were many beautiful woman here on the floor tonight. Thaleu's watched as a young woman helped another and he wondered if one of them were his future wife. Perhap's, but he wasn't sure. The colors of the one screamed Luria, but how would he know. He wouldn't, not until she approached him, and he didn't care. He wasn't going to go looking to find her, she was bound to him now anyway, he'd run into her eventually.
i kinda just like edited thaleus's starter bc yee

If Jericho had harbored any hope of entering a Binding with a woman he could one day truly love, that hope was now squashed upon the first few words that Amelia uttered. Their Binding benefitting Dialla.... Although true, it was rude to Jericho nonetheless. He knew what this world of riches meant, and he had known since he was a small child. Everyone here meant business. None of their parents truly loved one another, and now none of this Bound couples would love one another. It was strictly political and for once, Jericho was finding himself disgusted with the world he had ended up in. At least as a commoner, you could occasionally marry for love.
But if it was what made King Tyrios happy, Jericho was sure he could manage. He would just forever be stuck in a loveless marriage, the king to a powerful queen... yay... But this was a better Binding than Jericho had originally thought he would find himself forced into, and for that, he was grateful. Tyrios had at least been looking out for him in that regard, even if Jericho almost would have preferred someone else if it would mean a slightly warmer, more hospitable wife. It was all about politics, after all.
"Honored?" Jericho echoed. "Princess, with all due respect, we both know that it is me that is honored to be Bound to you." He smirked at her, and he spoke in a teasing tone of voice even though in all reality, it was definitely Jericho that should feel honored. He was just an orphan, after all, even if Tyrios viewed him completely as a son. Jericho and everyone else here knew that the only thing that flowed through his veins was the impurity of commoners. He wasn't fit to run a kingdom, although he had learned for years what it took to be the best king he could. Although, Jericho wasn't sure if he could ever sign his loyalties completely over to Dialla. Amalthea would always be his home.
Everything Amelia did felt so robotic, so fake, and Jericho slowly felt dread clawing through him. This was all politics. He wouldn't have been happy no matter who he ended up with. Jericho kept having to remind himself of that. He would have felt this way no matter what, and there was no going back on the Bindings that had been decided. This was his future now, looking at him with the distaste that even if she tried to hide it, was still ever so faintly evident. Jericho knew that he was the one prince no one wanted to be bound to because of who he was, and to end up with Amelia of all people. It was a cruel trick.
"Well what would you like to know?" Jericho asked. When put on the spot, he realized that he had no idea what he enjoyed. Jericho felt as if his entire life had been spent trying to learn how to be the best prince that he could. What did he even do for fun anymore? He felt panicked while he tried to think, although he kept that feeling to himself and didn't let it show on his face as he looked at Amelia, and tried to keep appearing as cool as a cucumber.
