I wanted to something that's a little more true to wolves' actual lifestyle and social structure than most roleplays go for. Most roleplays take a very Clan-like approach to packs, giving them similar structures and values and mostly just making some name changes with the ranks and slightly different social rules to make them more "wolfish," but overall Clans and packs on here are nigh interchangeable. Not that there's anything wrong with that- I just want to do something a bit different.
What I have in mind is less of a singular Pack roleplay, and more of a "all wolves in a general area" roleplay. There would, of course, be packs, but like real-life wolf packs they would not be continuous, stable groups like Clans. In real life, a wolf pack usually consists of a breeding pair and their offspring, occasionally with one or two of the a parent's littermates, and very rarely with unrelated adults (though it has been known to happen). At a certain age (usually a couple years old) pups will leave their birth pack and go find another wolf who has left theirs (called dispersal wolves) and they will in turn form their own packs. Some, however, will choose to remain with their parents, and will either be continuously submissive, or will eventually take a mate and take over as the alphas when their parents die. Others will not form their own packs, and will just live as lone wolves, either entirely alone, or with a littermate, or with an unrelated wolf who is not their mate.
Obviously, this can be changed slightly in the roleplay (for example, having the parent's littermate, or an unrelated wolf, can be slightly more common), but overall it would remain true. The idea is for the roleplay to be far more savage and changing- instead of the fairly peaceful existence of a Clan or established, stable pack, these wolves would be constantly fighting for everything they have, against the environment or other wolves. There really wouldn't be any constant packs, because groups would have to change their borders, drive out others, be driven out, and move due to environmental reasons with relative frequency. Ideally, wolves would die due to starvation or combat, or weather, or accidents, or any of the other dangers that constantly plague a wild wolf's life. There would be a lot of potential for a lot of things to happen, probably all at once, and depending on where your wolf is and what their allegiance is. The idea is for there to be a lot of drama. Not love triangle, friendship and relationship soap opera drama, but heavy life-or-death, fighting for survival drama.
Really, I'm going to make this no matter if this page gets any attention (I don't really expect it to get a lot, since planning pages never do), but this page is more of a chance to get some kind of plot and characters established from the get-go. So like, if you have any ideas to contribute to the area/territory, or ideas for packs or conflict between packs, or between wolves in a particular pack, this is the place to plan that before the roleplay is finished.
