All of my roleplays are slow right now and I'm really wanting to do a 1x1. Preferably something semi-literate to advanced, though I find doing posts longer than about 750 words to be a bit tedious (I can manage them at times though. I just usually don't have muse/time for responses that long, or enough to work with). You can expect me to almost always have posts that are at least about 350 words though. For my partner, I'm not really concerned about precise post length, as long as you can manage a couple of quality paragraphs, have good grammar, and can actually contribute to the story in meaningful ways. As for plots... well, I don't really have any particular "plots" at the moment, more just vague concepts, but we can figure out the exact storyline together. Not looking for too many partners, probably like two max, but if they were gonna be slow burns I might consider three. I would rather not do duplicate concepts unless they're pretty unique from each other.
First, something with pirates. It could be a lot of different genres, really, since the character I'd be using is a character of mine I use for a LARP which is... pretty versatile in genre (it's like, dystopian post-apocalyptic sci-fi with some fantasy-ish themes, so yeah). The character is also heavily influenced by the Pirates of the Caribbean series (I mean, his first gf in his backstory was even partially named after Tia Dalma), so he could work well in that sort of setting. He's a pirate "captain" (ship not included; two games in, no boat, and I have no idea why other people already started referring to him as captain) of ambiguous morals and a similar degree of grimy charm as Captain Jack Sparrow, minus the dreads but with extra piercings, a cooler sword, and a roughly equivalent amount of eyeliner (also we're totally gonna make the Fountain of Youth an in-game rumor... it's gonna happen). This character could work equally well in sci-fi, post-apocalyptic, fantasy, or historical fiction settings. What I want to do with him more specifically... idk. I just looked over and saw his hat on my shelf and was like... ya know, I wanna use shifty ol' Galleon for something.
Secondly, highwayman. This one would take place in Europe anytime between the mid 1500s to the early 1800s. Again... not really sure exactly what I'd want to do, but a highwayman just seems cool right now? Or even maybe a pair of them? Idk.
Another one, which just occurred to me because of the song "Highwayman".... you could have a pair of characters who are for some reason or another cursed to always reincarnate and cross paths, perhaps with one always somehow killing the other towards the end of a "cycle" (either accidentally or on purpose). Perhaps this is just a universal fact of their being, or maybe they have to unknowingly fulfill some kind of particular requirement in order to be allowed to move on after death instead of being reincarnated? Idk. It would probably be a more long-term plot, and I'm not entirely sure how it would be orchestrated, but it might be fun.
Something with gladiators, or any kind of similar situation, also always appeals to me. This could be a in a historical setting, or a fantasy setting, or even in a dystopian sci-fi or post-apocalyptic setting. Anything works for me. Of course, this one would have to be done carefully, since the concepts of slavery and all that "good" stuff which goes along with gladiators can be a bit touchy. Still, I think it might be cool to do if done right.
Pretty much anything Norse. If you have an idea which involves Vikings, or is heavily influenced by Norse mythology, sign me tf up.

Yeah, sure! Do you have any particular ideas? In his "true" form he's actually a mutated fish person (scales, gills, webbed hands, can shift between genders, etc.) but obviously in some genres that would have to be changed. Post-apocalyptic or fantasy would probably keep him truest to his current form, but I have no issue making adjustments. Though, I would be sad to let his trash-cape go, that's sort of his "thing" XD (I literally have a net that's just got shells, bottlecaps, bits of leather, and any other garbage I could find that would probably exist in the ocean tied to it. It's his armor XD )

Hmm, I actually really like the sound of him being a mutated fish person! XD Gosh, that would be so cool, and would make for some great character interactions! Especially the shifting between genders part, haha. I can kind of see his "true" form existing in a fantasy setting as well, but between that and a pirate-esque world, I don't really have much of a preference, haha. I'm just so intrigued by this character of yours, XD I just have to say though, in regards to my own character - I really do prefer to roleplay female characters, though the gender of yours doesn't matter to me. I'm just the most comfortable with characters of my own gender, haha. Though it's not like I'm entirely unwilling to roleplay guys. I'm pretty reasonable, XD I'm also not explicitly looking for romance either - if it so happens to develop, then that's that. I just wanted to cover all my bases concerning my characters and their relationships, XD Figured being straightforward about it was the best bet.

Heheh well fortunately Galleon is one of my few characters who is actually pansexual (mainly on account of being either at any given time. Well, he is almost always male and identifies as such but he was born female and spent a decent portion of his life that way. And could change back if he wanted). The point is, male or female is fine, if they're hot he will hit on them XD
A fantasy setting would probably work best if we want to keep him as a fish mutant.

Ah, well that works out fine then! XD Haha, you've got this character who looks like he's been all fleshed out and developed, while I'm still trying to figure which of my characters I should use, o.O There's a few potential ones I could choose from... between Tabitha, Namara, and Maeven, they'd all work in their own unique ways... I'll need a moment to think about this, haha. They're all pretty well developed, but they work in many different roleplays because I left certain aspects about them open to tweak so they can be moulded to fit the setting of each new roleplay. I suppose they're three of my most... uh, roleplay diverse characters? Haha.
Fantasy sounds like a good choice to me. It's pretty broad in terms of world-building and whatnot - which is something I love to do when writing, XD

Oops I totally forgot to reply to this last night lmao.
But yeah, I would hope he's fairly well developed, I've been working on his for probably close to a year XD his costume is good too... wore it to a convention and I think I got more compliments on it than I have on any of my cosplays lmao. Apparently fish sea trash pirates are popular.
But yeah, fantasy should work pretty well then. I'd have to change the aesthetic slightly (after all... he wears sunglasses lmao) but besides that it should be good. We could do something high fantasy where half-fish people are fairly common (which is kind of how his original universe is anyhow so that would be fine) or something a little more of a "normal" world where maybe they're not as common or are like cursed/mutated idk.

Oh wow, haha. Out of the three I mentioned, Tabitha(who prefers to be called Tabby) is the oldest. A couple years, I think? A ball of perpetual nonchalant sarcasm and snark, that's what she is, haha. Probably the best among my characters at pretending not to care, XD
Hmm, I kind of like the idea of half-fish people being fairly common. My character(and I'm really tempted to use Tabby for this, haha) would probably be entirely human, but I'm not absolutely sure on that yet. I think I'd have her be a sort of wandering adventurer that doesn't stick around in one place too long. She has a pretty bad case of wanderlust, haha. I imagine it would be through her inability to sit still, that she and Galleon would meet?

Yeah that would work for me. For the sake of ease, I'll henceforth refer to anything from his "true" version as being his "canon." At this moment, I have his life divided up basically into five "stages." There was him as a kid, when he had lived his entire life underwater, having never before seen the surface. Obviously doing something in this time period is 100% out, if Tabby is a human; not to mention, he was young and almost naive then (if he's ever been lmao) so he may not be as interesting. Next is once he finally decided to visit the surface, and left the sea to begin traveling among the surface-dwellers. This probably wouldn't be as good either, since he's confused and trying to figure things out. Anyways, he sailed on one ship for a while, made a friend, and then some bad stuff happened. I won't go into detail here, I'll let him tell it if it comes up in the rp. After some bad stuff happened, he was basically alone on the surface, and due to a sudden and distinct fear of the open sea refused to sail any longer. Thus he stayed on the shore, mainly working at docks and such, and wouldn't go too far out onto open water. Eventually, another member of his race, a pirate named Captain Lee, convinced him to join her crew. He sailed with her for about... two years, I think, but eventually became rather discouraged with her methods, as she was considered a particularly vicious pirate for a multitude of reasons. He finally convinced a few of the other equally-discouraged members of the crew to desert, and traveled inland to meet with Galleon's cousin, who had previously told Galleon that the town which the cousin was a council member of had the potential to be quite lucrative (and as we all know, Galleon is a greedy ho). And several months later, that's where we currently are in Galleon Canon. We could really pick any point along that timeline for this to take place (adapted, of course, to the fantasy universe... though, remarkably little would really need to be changed), or we could fast-forward a bit to when Galleon eventually has his own ship. Though, I find the concept of everyone calling him "captain" even though he's not actually a captain amusing XD but without anyone to be a crew, I'm not sure how that would go over in this roleplay, so *shrug*
lmao sorry for that block of text XD

Ahh. That's an intriguing backstory, something that I can always appreciate. That all sounds good, so I'm thinking we could begin from a point before he has his own ship? Tabby's wanderlust would eventually lead her to the town where Galleon is, in which she would meet him. Now, finding a reason for her to stick around would be the challenge, haha. I think I'd be able to figure something out though. She's not really keen on staying in one place, but she does tend to linger if something catches her interest or proves to be beneficial to her. On that note, I'll just shed a little light on Tabby's own backstory - she was born as an orphan without any family and lived in the slums of her hometown for the majority of her childhood. Simply put, she had a rough time of it, having to steal and fight to survive. Naturally, she grew up to be wary of others, so she doesn't trust easily. In her teenage years, she was quite rebellious and manipulative, and tended to lash out a lot at authority - she was quick to lie and cheat and fight dirty. She even banded together with other orphans like her to shake things up, and they terrorized the city for a while. Eventually, this little 'gang' of hers was finally disbanded after a certain event - which, like with you and Galleon, I won't go into extreme detail about. In short, it caused her to have a sort of self-worth and identity crisis, after which she finally decided to move on from her hometown to get a breath of fresh air. Since then, she's mellowed out, bringing her to the present where she's a lot less energetic and passionate about things and prefers to keep to herself. Like I said, she's good at pretending to not care, haha. That's kind of her thing now, though the attitude of her younger self still comes through, mostly through her use of sarcasm. She's still good at being manipulative too, XD
That's the general idea of her past. Of course, there are the things that happened during her travels, but those can be told by her later.

Hm... maybe she's traveling somewhere, and the ship she's on gets raided by Galleon and his crew? She could be taken prisoner or something, maybe for ransom or for some other reason (Galleon's not generally big on taking prisoners, nor is he a murderer so she probably wouldn't be begging for her life... but I'm sure we can find a reason regardless) and then they're like... hey, we have a lot of similarities. Perhaps he sort of... reminds her of the fires of her youth, so to speak, and she could eventually end up a part of the crew? Idk lmao.

Yes, yes, that sounds like a plan! Maybe she could be taken prisoner say, because there's a bounty or something on her? Tabby's not entirely the epitome of innocence herself, and she has a habit of instigating and stirring up things she really shouldn't(both intentionally and unintentionally). Perhaps she went a little too far one time, and ended up being wanted? Like, not to be killed, just captured and brought in. Maybe Galleon knew she was on the ship he raids, maybe he doesn't, but he ends up finding her anyway. From there, she kind of... convinces him not to turn her in? Somehow. ... I kind of imagine this bad thing she did just being like... insulting a really spoiled and sensitive rich kid or something stupid like that, XD But Tabby being Tabby doesn't give a crap(until she gets captured, then she'll have an excuse to complain until they wish they'd never bothered).

Ah yes, that sounds so unintentionally perfect XD especially because tbh in my LARP, that's probably enough to get you a decent bounty from the ruling race lmao. A nice burn, or god forbid you lie, or cheat one out of something, or do anything else mildly crappy lmao (very soon that is probably going to become a Canon Galleon problem if we're honest).

Yeep yeep. I guess just to figure out a few little things about the world itself, then. Should magic be very prevalent do you think? Like... it's high(er) fantasy so it would be there I suppose, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's common. I would opt for it being uncommon but not unheard of, but it's up to you. And then, what sort of setting should it be? Like, obviously coastal/ocean since there's pirates, but it could be tropical, temperate, or even arid on the nearby land, or anything else you could think of. And what sort of races should there be? Obviously humans and fish-people, but besides that. Don't have to go too into detail, just some general ideas so we can know what sort of NPCs and plot points can be included when they become relevant.

Uncommon magic seems fine. Like, only a number of people(or races) can utilize it? And for the setting, I kind of like tropical to be honest. I don't picture Tabby being from that area, but she travels a lot so her being there wouldn't necessarily be out of the question. As for races, I imagine perhaps things like elves, dwarves, etc. Like the usual fantasy-esque races. They don't have to be copy and pasted exactly how most people perceive them, but the important details can stay the same. Dragons and unicorns and the like could be a possibility as well, but they may be rarer(?) than others.
On that note, I also think Tabby herself could be descended from something non-human. She would still be 90% human, but since this version of her that I have envisioned is a bit... superior to your typical human, I figure there ought to be a reason. Just somewhere along her family tree, there would be something non-human, but it would be far back enough to where she would only have inherited a fraction of their abilities - nothing that draws constant attention, more like something that surprises every now and again. Examples of this being her high adaptability, tendency to grasp and learn concepts with ease, and her 'natural talent' for mastering different physical skills in half the expected time. Most of it is mental and motor-related skills, so the presence of this... magical(?) ancestor's blood in her veins would merely enhance what's already there. If I'm making any sense. I'm not great at explaining stuff like this, haha.

Nah that makes perfect sense. Yeah, I agree probably elves, dwarve, humans. Maybe throw in like a cat or wolf race, and like a bovine race, or reptilian, or something to sort of balance the fish? Idk? And I would guess that probably either dwarf or elf would make the most sense. That, or she could maybe be magically blessed by some kind of creature (like a unicorn? idk?)

Why not have all of those races? XD Variety is good, haha. Well, since she would have been born with it, the most reasonable would be that she has an elf or dwarf in her ancestry somewhere. The idea of her being magically blessed is a good one, but she didn't start travelling around until she was 16 or 17, so that wouldn't work as well... unless she had been blessed before she was born, while her mother was still carrying her... eh, I don't know, XD

Yes, or when she was very young I suppose. Though perhaps her bloodline is blessed or something, idk. But elf or dwarf works just as fine.
