Idk how many people on here play Town of Salem, but I thought it might make a fun little roleplay. Basically, it would take place in a small colonial town where there's just a lot of crazy crap going on. Most of the town are normal people, but some are vampires, werewolves, or witches. Others have their own motives, whether for the good of the town or not. This would ideally be a fairly dark roleplay, with lots and lots of death, plotting and sabotage, and generally dark themes. The roles and identities of people in the town would be pretty heavily based on the Town of Salem game, but you wouldn't have necessarily have to have played to know what's going on in the roleplay.
To summarize the game for people who have never played it: you and a bunch of other people are in a colonial, pilgrim style town. Each player is assigned a role, which are not known to others in the town. Some are regular townsfolk, some are good town roles like sheriff, medium, or doctor, and depending on the mode, there are shadier factions as well, such as the Coven (which consist of people such as the poisoner or hex master), the Mafia (which are normal people but with dark ulterior motives), or factionless people and creatures such as serial killers, werewolves, or vampires. Each role has its own unique abilities, which can help or harm the town and the factions during each night cycle, which is when most abilities are used. For example, the serial killer can choose a person each night to kill, while the doctor can choose someone to heal, and mediums can speak to the dead at night. During the day, you find out who was killed in the night, and their wills are revealed. Their wills are notes written by the player before their death, which will sometimes reveal things they know about the roles of other players, or provide clues to their death. The town members must then try to figure out who the "bad guys" are, and can vote to hang people that they think are bad (such as Mafia or Coven). The other factions must try to kill off all the townspeople first, either by killing them at night or tricking them into executing their own. The roleplay would go something like that, with different groups and factions trying to further their own agendas while outwitting the townspeople, while the townspeople try desperately not to be outwitted.
Of course, there are quite a few roles in the game (50, in fact), so not all of them could be used in the roleplay, because that would just become a rather absurd number of characters. That's fine, because not all of the roles are that interesting, or would translate well into a roleplay. However, some from each of the factions should certainly be included (Mafia, Coven, and Town, as well as "neutral" roles like werewolf and vampire). And, of course, once characters die, they can still be contacted by the medium... assuming the medium remains alive. The roleplay would "end" when one of the factions has won, but until then, it would just be, as described above, a lot of death and sabotage.
Ideally, it would be on the more literate side of things, since a measure of literacy is necessary to be able to carry out convoluted schemes and plots like this. It may even be possible to keep it to where people don't really know the roles of other players' characters.... thus, it's as much of an out of character game of trying to figure out who is who. Most of the characters would probably die over the course of the roleplay, sometimes unexpectedly, so try not to get too attached!
Would anyone be interested in something like this?

I mean I'm always looking for more good and somewhat more advanced role plays and also I like the idea of one that's more interactive and have actually been trying to think of one that could be done more out of character
So yeah I'd totally be up for helping/joining

Yeah I've been thinking some kind of colonial-esque roleplay involving werewolves and vampires and whatnot would be fun but couldn't think of a good, like, plot. Then I remembered Town of Salem existed and was like... that might just be crazy enough to work lmao.
I suppose this roleplay won't really require that much actual planning from the get-go, but if we could figure out, like, a general layout of the area, as well as get together at least a few of the basic roles to start us off, we can probably fill in the details after it opens, when there are more characters.

Also what's your screen name? It's not showing up (probably cause I'm on mobile)
Also we could throw some twist on it. Modern day. Or like modern day people that have adapted to living on an island and there's something strange about the islands natives?
Or we could just keep it how it is. Just throwing out ideas here
Also I'm heading out to work but will be on later tonight

So here's a list of all the roles in the game, with the ones that I feel can/should be excluded striked out, and the ones that definitely need to be included bolded.
Town: - Bodyguard - protects one person a night - Doctor - heals one person a night - Crusader - protects one person a night - Trapper - place a trap at a person's house; harmful visitors trigger the trap, revealing their role - Escort - stop another player from using their ability for a night - Mayor - gets extra votes when voting who to execute - Medium - can talk to the dead at night; when killed, may send a message to one living player - Retributionist - revive a dead town member - Transporter - switch the places of two town members - Investigator - determine a list of possible roles for a target investigated - Lookout - watch a target and see if they have any visitors for a night - Sheriff - determine the faction/alignment of a target - Spy - see if someone is visited by Mafia or Coven - Tracker - track a target and see who they visit in a night - Psychic - receive a vision each night of who may be good and who may be evil - Jailer - imprison a target for a night; you may also execute them privately - Vampire Hunter - hunts vampires (not a lot of unique mechanics that would translate well to roleplay) - Veteran - may attack the first person to walk through their door in a night - Vigilante - can choose a person to kill in a night, but if they kill a town member, will commit suicide
Mafia: - Blackmailer - prevent a target from talking for a day - Consigleire - determine a target's role - Consort - stop a target from using their ability at night - Disguiser - appear to be the role of a different person - Forger - forge the will of a target that is killed that night - Framer - make a person being investigated appear to be a different set of roles - Janitor - (not entirely sure how this one works actually. I think they make it look like a person who was killed died by other means, or their cause of death indeterminable) - Hypnotist - give false information to a target at night - Godfather - order the mafioso to kill a target at night, or (if there is no mafioso or they are role-blocked) kill them yourself - Mafioso - becomes Godfather if the Godfather dies; kill a person at night - Ambusher - ambush a target's visitor for a night
Coven: - Coven Leader - force a target to use their ability on a second target - Hex Master - hex a person to make them appear to be a Coven member to investigators - Poisoner - poison a target, who will die the next night - Potion Master - use either a Healing, Attack, or Revealing (role) potion on a target - Medusa - turn a person to stone each night; their will and role will not be revealed - Necromancer - reanimate a dead body for a night and use their ability on a living target; body rots away after use, so can't be used twice
Neutral/Self-Serving: - Amnesiac - gain the role of a dead player at some point - Guardian Angel - try to keep your target alive - Survivor - wears a bulletproof vest - Executioner - try to get your target executed; if target is killed at night rather by public execution, becomes a jester - Jester - tries to get self publicly executed; if executed, kills one of the guilty voters that night - Witch - force a target to use their ability on a second target (same as Coven Leader) - Arsonist - douse someone each night; at any point, set all doused targets on fire - Serial Killer - kill a person each night - Werewolf - kill anyone who visits you on full moon nights - Juggernaut - kill a player on full moon nights, become more powerful with each kill - Vampire - convert a person into a vampire each night - Pirate - plunder other peoples' valuables at night - Plaguebearer - infect a target with the plague each night - Pestilence - evolves from Plaguebearer once every other person is infected

And it's invadervyx. Also see ya.

Hmmmm so I think it should be somewhere coastal or on, like, a major river. I like the idea of there being pine forests, harsh winters, and maybe some cliffs or something nearby.

Okay I think I narrowed it down to 25 roles which would work in the roleplay. Here they are:
Town: - Bodyguard - Doctor - Escort - Mayor - Medium - Investigator - Lookout - Sheriff - Tracker - Jailer - Vigilante
Mafia: - Consort - Forger - Janitor - Godfather - Mafioso
Coven: - Coven Leader - Poisoner - Potion Master - Necromancer
Neutral: - Executioner - Serial Killer - Werewolf - Vampire - Plaguebearer
Of course, role doesn't translate to profession or one's standing in the town, especially where the factions other than the town are concerned. Like, obviously the Mayor role can also be mayor of the town, but like, the serial killer would also have another occupation within the town, like a blacksmith or innkeeper or farmer or something.

Yeah I was thinking it would need to be somewhere accessible by ship, so a large river could work. Maybe with the ocean nearby but not like, super close. Like, half a day's trek away or something. I'm thinking somewhere New England-y, like Maine or something idk lol.

That sounds good. I don't think it should be right on the coast but having the ocean nearby wouldn't be bad
Also is there going to be some description typed up with the roles? Like I said I'm super rusty on the game but I'm sure I could just do a little research and then help out with that

Yeah I figured probably their general behavior/place within the town. Possibly their occupation as well, if it relates to the role somehow. I figure most occupations can be up to the players but some might be related to role.

Should we split them up to work on so you don't have to do it all yourself? I mean obviously I'm cool if you look over my work to maker sure it's accurate, but I figured I'd google a little bit and see what we can put together

Sure. You can find a list of all the roles on the Town of Salem wiki, it describes their general role, abilities, and all that.

Town: - Bodyguard - a warrior who works as a bodyguard for hire. Likely a large, middle-aged (give or take a few years) man, probably with a surly and slightly aggressive disposition. Certainly not of the wealthier in town, but likely not of the poorest either. - Doctor - well educated and likely affluent, the doctor takes care of the ailments of the others in town. They are likely middle aged or older, and more likely male than female given the time period (but female is also possible). They likely have a caring disposition. - Escort - a young, beautiful, and likely poor woman. She earns her living by keeping the men in town company, or perhaps working odd jobs here and there (such as a waitress at a tavern). Promiscuous, flirty, and often looked down on by the more faithful and traditional members of town. - Mayor - one of the wealthiest members of the town, and almost certainly an older male. He must be charming, charismatic, and have some good leadership qualities- though whether he actually cares for the town, or only his position of power, remains to be seen. - Medium - more likely a woman, and likely not wealthy, though she may be of any age. She may also be foreign (ie, not from England like most of the others). The medium is a fortune-teller, able to speak with the dead. She must be quiet about her skill, as it may be labeled witchcraft by the others in town, but despite this she has a heart of gold. - Investigator - a member of law-enforcement in the town, or perhaps a private investigator. Likely middle class or wealthy, and at least somewhat educated, the investigator looks for clues into the lifestyles and secrets of other town members to try to determine whether they are good or evil. - Lookout - keeps an eye out for suspicious characters and activities, likely of their own volition. Likely a gossiper and sticks their nose into others' business, and may stake out the homes of those they find suspect to watch for suspicious activities and visitors. Occupation, age, and wealth unknown. - Sheriff - the main law-enforcer of the town, it's the sheriff's job to track down and apprehend criminals and evildoers. The sheriff has a lot of authority in the town, and is likely an older man, middle class or wealthy. He is likely noble and law-abiding, though perhaps not always in the best of ways. - Tracker - most likely a hunter of some sort, the tracker may take it upon themselves to follow those they suspect of wrongdoings and see where they go and what they do. Likely poor or middle-class, and most likely male. - Jailer - the keeper of the jail in town. Watches over and detains suspects, and may question them accordingly. If they see fit, they may also serve as an executioner. Likely middle-class, possibly wealthy, and almost certainly a middle aged or older man. - Vigilante - occupation, wealth, and gender unknown; a townsperson who takes it upon themselves to secretly punish those they suspect of wrongdoing. Likely with a strong sense of justice but also enough arrogance to think that they can judge it on their own- however, if they badly hurt or kill someone who then proves to be good, the guilt will be too much for them to live with.
Neutral: - Executioner - a person so certain that another is evil that despite all evidence, they will stop at nothing to see them executed. For all intents and purposes, looks like anyone else, except for their vendetta against a particular person. May be any occupation, wealth, age, or gender. - Serial Killer - secretly kills other townsfolk for their own twisted amusement; perhaps as an act of revenge, or insanity, or as some sort of dangerous, deadly game. They may have some sort of pattern, or their killings may be entirely random. May be any occupation, wealth, age, or gender. - Werewolf - a person who uncontrollably turns into a monstrous and vicious wolf on the full moon. They may also take a wolf form during the rest of the month, but it looks more like a regular wolf, and they are in slightly more control of it. The longer they have been a werewolf, the more control they have (except on full moons). They may turn another person into a werewolf with a bite, but it doesn't always work so they do it rarely. May be any occupation, wealth, age, or gender. - Vampire - a undead person with an aversion to sunlight, who must drink the blood of others to stay alive. The sunlight is incredibly bright and uncomfortable, and sunburns them very quickly. They must drink blood at least every other night or they begin to starve. They may turn another person into a vampire with a venomous bite. May be any occupation, wealth, age, or gender. - Plaguebearer - a person who has brought a deadly disease to the town; perhaps intentionally, perhaps not. This disease will quickly spread to others in the town. May be any occupation, wealth, age, or gender (but more likely middle class or poor).

Mafia: - Consort - very similar to the escort: a young and beautiful woman. However, she is slightly more affluent, and certainly more malicious, with ties to a strong group and goals far beyond simply finding a better life for herself. - Forger - adept at creating and manipulating written documents, the forger is able to seamlessly rewrite wills, decrees, letters, and other similar items. They are most likely well-read, thus making them either middle class or wealthy, and must have an occupation which allows them access to the documents they may need to rewrite (so, lawyer perhaps?) They are almost certainly a middle aged or older male. - Janitor - this person cleans up crime scenes, either hiding evidence altogether or making it appear to be something that it isn't (such as making a murder look like a suicide). May be a male or female, of any age, wealth, or social class. - Godfather - the leader and organizer of the local Mafia. Decides who to kill, who to intimidate, what to rewrite, and generally dictates the actions of the others in the group. Almost certainly an affluent male of middle age or older, but may also be a female. - Mafioso - the Godfather's right-hand man, and the main hitman in the Mafia. Their primary job is to take out targets as directed by the Godfather, and to take the Godfather's place should something happen to them. Likely not very young, but also probably not old; of a similar or slightly younger age than the Godfather. Most likely male, middle class or wealthy, but may be female.
Coven: - Coven Leader - the leader of the local witch coven. They are able to sway the minds of others and convince them to do things they wouldn't normally do, such as to hurt or protect another person. They also command the other witches in the Coven. Almost certainly female, middle aged or older, and of any wealth. - Poisoner - adept at creation strong poisons with which to kill targets, as well as hiding and administering them. Likely a woman, of any age or wealth (though probably not very young), and in a position where they can administer poisons without suspicious (such as being a maid, nurse, or cook). - Potion Master - adept at making several different kind of potions with varying affects, such as healing, damaging, or truth. Likely a woman, around middle aged or older, who is in a good position to administer potions without raising suspicion (such as a maid, nurse, or cook). - Necromancer - able to raise the bodies of the dead for one night to use the skills they had in life on another person (for example, they could have the vigilante kill someone). After that night, however, the bodies rot away forever, so as not to be used again. The Necromancer is likely a female, but may also be male, and is likely not very young (in their early 20s at the youngest).
