It's the first day of November and so, today, someone will die...
Every year, the Scorpio Races are run on the beaches of Skarmouth. Every year, the sea washes blood from the sand. To race the savage water horses can mean death, but the danger is irresistible.
They run the horses on the beach, a pale road between the black water and the chalk cliffs. It's never safe, but it's never so dangerous as race day.
--------
This rp is based on the book of the same name by Maggie Stiefvater. Every year people come together to capture and train 'Capaill Uisce', the water horses. It's not so much a race as who can keep their beast away from the sea, stay on and stay alive for long enough to cross the finish line.
Raised on the island Brinn has lead a sheltered life. Her father runs the Tavern, a safe haven for locals and at the time of the races a bustling bar and hotel for tourists. Since her mother abandoned their family in favour of a rich tourist from the Mainland, Brinn has been the matriarch of the tavern, working from dawn til dusk to keep their patrons and her drunkard father happy. Growing tired of the inappropriate men and their grabbing hands she sees the race as her escape, little does she know the true danger she will have to face.

Awesome, will pop this starter here.
In the run up to the race the tavern would be bustling with people, locals, strangers and rich tourists alike. Brinn was used to it, In her 16 years of life she had seen a race once a year every year. Just like everyone else on the island. The race was a part of who she was.
This year though would be different, she was tired of the joking and the jostling, the subtle grabs at her body. She had grown into a fine young woman and people had taken notice of that. Unfortunately for them she had absolutely no interest in any of them, the young men that came courting with their tales of the water horses only set her mind along one path.
Now she was perched on a low outcrop of rock, the sea lapped hungrily at the shore. Here the rock had more in common with the sea floor than the land and was slick and green with weed and algae. Her red hair, although tied back in a messy plait, whipped about her in the wind. Her fringe falling heavily over her crystal blue gaze. The same blue as the sky on those rare summer days. Those eyes were trained on the sea, watching for a sign, something to betray the horses that romped beneath the waves.
No one had seen one yet, it was still early but she hoped to see one, with her own eyes. Yes, 16 and a half years here and she had never actually seen one of the capall uisce with her own eyes.

In the run up to the race the town would be busy with people. Alex knew that and had already done his shopping for the next month ahead of time. This year would be different from years past for he would be joining the riders. No one had stopped a water horse yet this year, Alex hoped to be the first to see one. He had seen them before watched the race watched the death and blood that came with it. Alex had seen the horses closer than some. He had been among the first to spot them last year. Alex looked up and spotted someone on the rock. That is where he had planned to go to search the sea. It had a vast view of the area around it. He looked up and saw a girl he knew, Brinn. Through she was two years younger they knew each other well. “Hello, Any Sign?” He called out cheerfully.

When she looked around at him,his blue eyes found here. She was hars to be friend but he had tired. They had known each other their whole lives just About. "Ah yes." He said as he started to scale the rock. He was dressed against the cold. He wore a heavy jacket. "Look for the water horses same as you I bet." Alex looked around as he reached the top. "I saw them first last year maybe I want to do it again." Alex sighed, "I don't know really Bring, I'm riding this year."

Alex focused both blue eyes on the sea. Most knew by now he planned to ride and most had said the same to him about him being brave or a remark about him being a fool. He lived here he was just as brave as the next person who made there home here. The island life made people brave or they left. That was that. Ever now and again he thought he saw one. "Brave, Not a fool.' he remarked out loud. She sat still as a stone. "You haven't ever even seen one, you have lived out her your whole life same as me and you haven't see a water horse. I hope we see then today in that case." Alex looked around, "My parents aren't happy I'm riding, I only waited tell this year for there sakes."Alex picked up a rock and tossed it. He watched it tumble down into the deep water and the foaming sea."They are a part of life here." he said slowly.

"I don't know, Fear a lot of fear>" Alex looked to her then back at the sea. "You aren't thinking you want to ride are you?" Alex said slowly knowing that was just want she had thought. "If you are Brinn think twice>" Alex said slowly. He looked around at everything he could see, how many more day's would he wake up."Brinn, the race brings honor to the winner and death to a lot." Alex looked to her again, "If you want to ride I'lll help you." He said as he looked to her.

"Death, better than the life you have I see.," Alex said as he searched the sea with his blue eyes.,"Yes I would I want to see someone win that really needs the money. ," Alex searched the sea. ,"It's your decision if you ride I'll be at your side. If I ride snd win I'll give you the money all of it. But if you chose to ride you can."

When she spoke again Alex nodded. ,"Of course." He said. Alex wanted her to win nkw. Alex had realized that the girl would ride with or with out his help. With it she stood a better chance of not dieing. When she spoke about getting a ride he nodded, "I'll work on that today." He said in answer. Alex listened to her speak"Yes you well. Met me here in the morning." Alex truned to her.

He know he needed to met up with her first. He carrid a bag of charms and ropes and things.Alex scaled the rock now. He reached the Rock's top and truned to the beach nearby to watch there was people out and water horses. Alex felt worry grip his chest.

"I know you always look like thjs.," Alex said as he unshoudlerd the beach bag and set it on the ground. All Alex could do was watch her. His girl would have nver caught his eye before now but standing in the fog she did. "Good, Good." Alex said slowly. ,"Are you ready to see a water horse up close."

The quiet girl nodded, the only sign she had heard him for once more her eyes had turned to the sea. There was a tranquility in her stance, she had a way of standing perfectly still, her only movement the wind whipping at her hair. Her ocean blue eyes, though lined by dark circles, were bright and filled with a shielded intelligence. Her heart beat rapidly in her chest and she stepped after him, ready as she would ever be to finally face the dreaded water horses. She didn't really know what to expect. She had only ever heard stories and in her mind she had formulated a picture of a monster, vaguely equine in appearance but savage and untamed. ''I'm a little nervous.'' She admitted suddenly, her gaze broken from the waves to focus on where she was stepping, the rocks still slick from the receding tide. Seaweed glistened dark green in the low light the gentle sound of water lapping at the shore a constant gentle rush.
