reminds me of The Sight (wolf) with the destiny/bridge/death thing (and the names--I'm pretty sure Larka was "snow" and Fell was named after a relative?)--did you get inspiration from there or is it a weird coincidence?
nice either way
edit: taking into account Hollyfrost bringing the spirits into the world I'm thinking it was intentional? it's cool and it took me a long time to notice

But...But... Ahhh! My Ice-y! Noooo! And that cliff-hanger?! I'm so done. *Slams paw on desk and starts sobbing so loud so that my cat (LOL) looks at me with confusion in his "brilliant blues"* This made me laugh, I'm sorry XD I know it's sad, but the epic twist of it, though!

phantomstar57 Thank you! It is unfortunate, but necessary! Scartail48 I'm both happy and slightly regretful that you're crying, lol. Thanks! @brambleisback Everyone liked him, which is why he had to go! (Well, mostly because it's a huge twist to the story, but also slightly for dramatic effect)

I read The Sight many years ago! I didn't make the connection, and I now want to re read that again.

For me, it's sad, but at the same time if it's good for the story then I'll totally do it. But then I rage when a good character dies in other things.

I've never read The Sight. Glad you like it anyway, and I guess this is sort of a weird easter egg? XD wow that is an incredible coincidence I believe you but here's my vague recollection of The Sight (put in a spoiler in case anyone ever wants to read it and doesn't want to be spoiled) So there's some prophecy saying a wolf is going to have "the Sight," which is some kind of legendary power that all the wolves have heard of but a lot of them aren't quite sure what it is because wolves with the Sight are thought to be scary. The circumstances of Larka's birth are described in the prophecy (it's a really long prophecy, and I think it's a poem). "Larka" is wolf for "fresh snow," and Fell is named after his grandpa or something. Larka is white, and Fell is black.
(Turns out the Sight is mostly communicating with birds and seeing through other animals' eyes. It also involves premonitions.)
There was a wolf named Morgra (Larka's aunt?) who got kicked out of the pack for killing a pup. In reality she was trying to save the pup from a fox, but it died anyway. After getting banished, Morgra turned evil for real. She still wanted friends and stuff, she was just also bent on revenge. She also had the Sight, which scared other wolves away from her.
The wolves are traveling for some reason. They rescue a gray wolf named Kar who's about Larka's age. There are lots of hints that Kar likes Larka. At first he's very shy, but once he gets used to living in a new pack he's friendly.
Everyone is told to beware "the fifth element," which is ice. While crossing a frozen river, Fell falls through the ice and is presumed dead.
Larka and some other wolves end up sheltering in the snow for a while. For some reason there's a kid there with them, and they call him Bran. I think Bran can talk to the wolves?
Morgra shows up with a lot of wolves, which I always read as reanimated dead wolves' spirits but I might have imagined that because I was pretty young when I read it, and they're back at the place where Larka was born. Morgra has been telling everyone that Wolfbane (legendary evil maybe-magic wolf) is back, and she actually has Wolfbane with her! But he's actually just brainwashed Fell, and Larka recognizes him by his distinctive eyes.
So Larka reminds Fell who he is, but the prophecy still has to be completed. Completing the prophecy requires Larka to look through Bran (human)'s eyes and then fight Morgra on the bridge. Larka has had lots of Sight visions saying she will die; at the last moment she realizes the prophecy isn't absolute and she can live; she dies anyway. Fell is remembered as the guy who was Wolfbane for a while.
So the main similarities to this story would be -Larka=snow, Icespire, both white and in some way different from the others -Fell/Hollyheart named for Fell/Hollyfrost, both black -Kar/Raintail gray, shy, friendly, likes Larka/Hollyheart -antagonist previously exiled from the pack/Clan for murder (even though Morgra didn't mean to) -Fell/Hollyheart accidentally help the antagonist -to fulfill the prophecy the white wolf/cat fights the main antagonist in a high place; both of them fall to their deaths -everyone knows Fell/Hollyheart was a major contributor to the final fight, even though they didn't mean to cause it -main antagonist=aunt?

Holy freaking crud.... That is literally the single most massive coincidence I have ever seen in my whole life. Well, maybe except for those airplane twin guys that were running the internet for a while, but still! I also gotta give you props for figuring all this stuff out too. Like, daaaannnnggggggg.

I remember having some trouble understanding what was going on when I read The Sight (the Internet won't tell me if the evil wolves were ghosts or not, so I'm guessing they weren't, whoops), so I had to read pretty closely--I guess it stuck with me better because of that. I already liked your story, and it almost makes it cooler that it was a coincidence!

Hey Sea, can you add me as a fan please?
I'm still reading, but so far, Hollypaw really speaks to me, as someone with a disabled sibling myself. She's a really relatable character, and I'm honestly digging your writing style.
