A lot of people are upset over Shadowkit's name, but I don't see anything wrong with it. From what I can remember, the books never state that cats aren't allowed to be named after Clans. It just isn't a common practice, but that doesn't mean it isn't allowed.
The Erins change their minds often on what is allowed and what isn't. Back in the early days, the Erins said that "Sun" and "Moon" were forbidden as they are sacred, but this has changed over time. There have been several cats with the Sun- prefix, and Moonflower. Moon is also a suffix. They also said that "spirit" wasn't allowed, but we have Brightspirit.
Plus, Shadowkit isn't the first cat to be named after a Clan. Windflight from ThunderClan was named after WindClan, and there was a Skyheart in RiverClan (although the Clans didn't know about SkyClan then, but the Erins did and still used it). Plus, if certain Clan names can be used as suffixes, I don't see why they couldn't be used as prefixes as well.
If these names were so forbidden, you would think the Clans would be offended by them, but no one ever says anything or seems to be bothered by them. After all, they spoke out about Millie, Daisy, and Brook's names so they would certainly say something about "forbidden" names being used. But they didn't, so I don't think it's a big deal to them. They're probably just not common names for whatever reason.

It was one of those unspoken things, I guess. Like the warrior code doesn't explicitly say medicine cats can't have mates, but everyone "knows" it (and sorta ignores it at this point lol), you know? Or that the Clans can't get together and drive out one Clan, like how Brokenstar did with WindClan or WindClan and RiverClan tried to do with ThunderClan in Dark River.
I always thought it was along the lines of (or did an Erin say this?) a queen wouldn't name her kit Starkit, because that implies the kit is the most gorgeous cat ever and higher than even StarClan or...something. But along those lines, if the Dark Forest has existed this whole time, there shouldn't cats named Darkkit, either? Eh. I 'unno.

I enjoyed the names of all three of the kits.

Always irked me that Sun and Moon were "illegal"
like.
I dont care if the Moonstone exists, or the Moonpool. The Moon is as constant as grass, trees, clouds, everything. I love that Prefix and I hate getting slammed for my OC's with the Prefix "Moon" in them.

According to Vicky, Sun and Moon are only to be used occasionally. And I don't get where the "Moon being sacred" thing comes from. Moon isn't used all that much because it would then imply a cat was prettier than the rest of their Clanmates. It has nothing to do with it being sacred.
Windflight was stated to be an exception, and it should be noted that each cat named after a Clan is born outside the Clan they were named after (Windflight was likely born in ThunderClan, Skyheart was born to RiverClan, Skywatcher was born long after SkyClan fell, and Shadow was named outside the Clans entirely and the name isn't even supposed to be a reference to ShadowClan). That might have something to do with it too.

Nope for me it's not forbidden anymore, and I think the only reason why people say that is because the Erin's themselves said it was forbidden because moon was only for things that connected with starclan, or that's how I remembered but they already screwed up since they named moonflower moon and a lot of kits the name of the founders already.

I think it's kinda disrespectful and stupid unless it's a punishment or reminder. Examples are Windflight and Skywatcher.

I see it more as a pride thing than anything else. The cats love their Clans, and often give names that symbolize their Clan and culture. I don't see this as any different

Under normal circumstances I find that sort of naming disrespectful, but I believe it’s okay if it’s a celebration of half-Clan heritage, or even heritage in general.
I don’t mind Sun and Moon at all, and I have OCs with those prefixes.

There's different ways to show pride and celebrate your Clan's culture. Shadowkit wasn't even named in honor of ShadowClan. He was named for the difference between Dovewing and Tigerstar.

Honestly, imo, the only name that should be forbidden is "Star" as a prefix. (Ex Starkit, Starleaf (warrior), ect.) The only exception is leaders using it as a suffix.
But I'm fine with warriors being named "sun" "moon-" or a Clan -Name prefix.

I don't have any problems with names that have Moon or Sun prefixes, or have the same prefixes as the Clan names. I really liked the name Shadowkit.

I agree. I think his name is fine, and I like it. The only time I'd have an issue with a name is if it has Star as prefix/suffix, since that would be kind of stupid. Like I hate Star Flower's name, but I guess it was acceptable back then since the Clans weren't really a thing yet.

I'll just find it confusing...and boy oh boy, money on the fact that the other kits will probably have an inferior complex over it later.

I think it depends on the circumstances. The cases of Windflight and Skywatcher are perfectly okay because the names have a special meaning beyond just the respective Clan. The only one who blurred the line was Shadowkit since it was pretty obvious that he would be going back to ShadowClan, but at least his name wasn't intended to be after ShadowClan. As for Skyheart and Brightsky, both of those are fine simply for the fact that the Clans had forgotten about SkyClan by that point.

while i don't consider it to be "forbidden"—it's kind of like naming your kid george washington; puts a lot of pressure on them, yknow, and kind of arrogant as a parent
