Lacey's day was going per usual. She was covered in grease, a smudge of it on her nose, while she worked on fixing the riding lawnmower that sat in front of her. In her shed were all sorts of other machines that people had brought her to fix, with a few of the other bigger ones sitting outside. They ranged from radios, to televisions, to the lawn mower that sat in front of her. In the background, her radio was playing some grunge rock.
Finally, she managed to fix what was wrong. Stepping back, she admired her handwork, running a greasy hand across her brow to wipe off the sweat, although it left behind a streak of grease.
She turned the key on the lawnmower, and... it sprung to life. Sputtering and choking for a moment before it started to run, a hundred times better than it had previously.
"Ha!" Lacey yelled and threw her arms into the air in triumph. She could check that off the list.
Lacey turned her back on the lawn mower while she recorded that the lawnmower was done and added it to her list of clients that she needed to call and let them know that she had fixed whatever they had brought in, and also tell them their bill.
While she was calculating what they owed her for the lawnmower, it started sputtering again. Lacey was confused as she couldn't remember the last time something she had fixed had then broken... immediately. Turning around, she started to approach the lawnmower.
And then, the lawnmower... did it start talking to her?
"Lacey, the time has come. Go the Parthenon. Meet the others. Your charm will show you the way." The lawn mower sputtered, and then it's gentle humming returned to normal while Lacey's charm started to burn against her skin.
She pulled it out of her shirt and looked at it, dangling on the chain that she kept it on around her neck. Lacey had found this years ago, when she was pulling apart some toy. It had been nestled inside and, when she had first touched it, she could have sworn that she had seen... Hephaestus.
And who else would have the power to talk through a lawnmower than Hephaestus?
Pushing the thought away, Lacey let the little hammer charm fall back into her shirt. She had kept it because of how beautiful its craftsmanship was, and when she was feeling down, she liked to pull it out and look at it. It filled her with vigor.
Lacey wasn't sure how to continue with work now, so it was pure luck that her mother called her from in the house to get cleaned up and come in for lunch.
----------
It didn't take long for her mother to know that something was wrong. Lacey wasn't eating her lunch -- she was simply poking at it with her eyebrows furrowed together in thought. There was still a smudge of grease on her nose.
"Lacey, honey, what's wrong?" Her mother asked.
Lacey hesitated. Would her mother think she was crazy if she told her the truth? Of course she would. Lacey thought she was crazy for even partially thinking that Hephaestus may need her.
Finally, she came up with a solution. "So, I got a call while I was working. Some old friends from high school want to meet up at the Parthenon in Nashville. But they want me to start heading up there tonight."
"You had friends?" Her mother replied and it would've hurt Lacey, except it was true. She didn't, but her mom didn't need to know that. Her mom's eyes widened when she realized what she had blurted out.
Lacey decided to just brush over what she had said. "Yeah, but I don't know if I should go. What if no one is there? What if they were lying?"
"Honey," Lacey's mom reached across the table and took her hand. "That could happen, but it could also be an experience that will change your entire life. All I'm going to say is, ask yourself if this is an experience that if you don't go, you will end up regretting for your entire life."
In less than an hour, Lacey had packed her bags into her car, said goodbye to her mother and stopped by her father's work to say goodbye to him, too, and then was on the road towards the Parthenon.
She stopped to sleep in her car occasionally and also to go through drivethrus for food. Eventually, she was pulling into the parking lot of the Parthenon. Lacey parked near the gathering group of people. This had to be them.
Sucking in a deep breath, Lacey turned off her car and climbed out. She walked towards the group, the smudge of grease still on her nose.

(I'm good, my work schedule might change so I have to adjust my sleep schedule to match it. It isn't a huge difference, just enough that I need to do minor adjusting.)

I'm really sorry, but I don't think I'm going to have the time to roleplay here. I've been totally swamped since the semester opened, and I probably will be until December. You can go ahead and open my spot back up))
