> names & titles
i think names similar to the tribe of rushing water (both ancient & modern) will be appropriate for colony names. maybe combine them. also name = status, sort of like the original clans (-star, -paw, etc) but a little more complicated.
ex: a kit may be born with the name "Budding Rose" but have it changed to "Budding Rose in Mint Field" after becoming a well known healer. when being introduced, others may recognize the addition of his / her name as a sign that they deal in medicine or herbs. even if the name's suffix's meaning isn't clear, it'll still be obvious that the cat is important, popular, or skilled in some way or another
does that make any sense? more examples:
"Lion" can become "Roar of Vicious Lion" for being fierce and intimidating during battle. good name for a guard
"Lion" can also become "Lion in Thicket Bush" for being skilled in camouflage and hiding. good name for a hunter
it can also become "Small Lion with Big Heart" for being compassionate and kind towards his / her colonymates. good name for a healer or nesting queen (in this case, he / she is known as Lion until receiving his / her title. then he / she may be called "Small Lion" instead of just "Lion" in an informal manner like a nickname)
is there any way i can phrase this to be less complicated?
> companies
i want the colonies to be divided into different roles, or "companies". here's what i have in mind: guards, hunters, healers, and nesting queens. | elders, queens, teachers, deputies, and the leader are considered "up-ranks" from the original 4 companies. apprentices, assignments, and kits are "down-ranks"
guards: in charge of defending the colony. guards patrol the territory for threats, check the borders, protect the camp and engage in combat. guards are assigned to watch over hunting patrols, training sessions, and herb-gatherings.
hunters: in charge of feeding the colony. they hunt in patrols and keep the fresh-kill pile stocked. they make sure prey is distributed evenly to every cat.
healers: in charge of keeping the clan healthy. they find, create, and distribute medicine and herbs for sick cats and are the only living liaisons between the colony and the deceased. they interpret omens and prophecies, and are the only cats capable of seeing, speaking to, and visiting their ancestors. cannot become nesting queens. healers have the title "healer" before their name and often drop their suffixes. ex: Healer Budding Rose in Mint Field or Healer Budding Rose
nesting queens: in charge of caring for and guiding new mothers. unlike regular queens, nesting queens stay in the nursery forever. they start off as new mothers and can decide to become "nest-bound" after having their first litter. can originate from any company besides healers. some non-nursing queens look down upon nesting queens and harshly see them as 'lazy' and 'not useful,' while others admire them and see them as 'mothers of the colony'.
> other roles
deputies: there are three deputy positions: deputy of hunting, deputy of guarding, and deputy of healing. a deputy is chosen by the leader when the previous deputy of that company dies or retires. when the leader dies, the next leader is chosen amongst the three deputies by the colony. the colony votes by "casting stones", and the winner is "cleansed" by the healers and observed for several days. deputies have the title "deputy" before their name and often drop their suffixes. ex: Deputy Lion or Deputy Lion in Thicket Bush
leader: the leader is chosen by the colony through casting stones. once leader, the healers "cleanse" him / her and "reshape" him / her to become "honorable" throughout several days. the leader is monitored closely by the elders until given approval to proceed on his / her own. the leader settles disagreements between deputies and makes drastic decisions that affect the colony. the leader appoints assignments to teachers and may reward titles. leaders are also representatives and speak for their colony during gatherings. leaders are formally referred to as "leader" by colonymates and "leader ______ " by outsiders. only relatives and close companions refer to him / her by his / her given name in private. ex: Leader Lion; just Lion by relatives in private or Leader Rose; just Budding Rose in private (elders choose what part of their name to address them as, like "Leader Rose", or "Leader Budding" or "Leader Budding Rose") it is not uncommon for leaders who dropped their suffixes as deputies to get new suffixes relating to the companies they originated from. ex: Leader Lion of Guarding; Leader Rose of Healing
elders: cats retired from their respective companies. they are honored for their experience and looked to for guidance and wisdom. their votes during casting stones are weighed heavier than the votes of any other cats and often influence the votes of others. they're in charge of observing newly announced leaders until they deem them fit for service.
queens: she-cats expecting kits. not much to explain here.
teachers: cats that are extremely skilled in their respective companies and tasked with teaching new recruits. teachers are placed in groups of three - a cat from each company excluding nesting queens - and are assigned multiple new recruits or "assignments" to train together (depending on the amount of kits becoming recruits). the trio of teachers are responsible for teaching their assignments basic skills from each company for an entire moon. at the end of the moon, the trio tests their assignments to determine which company is best fit for each one. the trio then appoints each assignment to a permanent mentor in the company most fit for him / her. teachers may reward titles to assignments who show outstanding potential; they can reward titles to assignments ONLY. besides queen, teacher is the only temporary position. once teaching is complete, he / she either returns to working in his / her respective company or is reassigned to a new trio and new set of recruits (depending on demand). cats that have been teachers are most likely to become deputy than any other cat in their company.
recruits (assignments): young cats learning new skills that will determine what company they are assigned to. they train for a moon, and are considered to be in "alpha stage" of training.
apprentices: young cats assigned to work under a cat in the colony they show the most potential in. they shadow their mentors who teach them the ins and outs of working in their company. training can last from 2 to 8 moons depending on the apprentice and how fast they learn, and they are considered to be in the "beta stage" of training. the average training time is 5 moons.
kits: kittens too young to train in any company. they stay with their mothers in the nursery until they are 5-6 moons before training as assignments under a trio.
all terms in "quotes" will have a vocabulary list explaining their meaning *with a few obvious exceptions until said list is completed, i will gladly clear up any confusion in terms of vocabulary words used here

company leading: it is said that the company that the current leader originated from will have good fortune throughout that leader's reign. a leading hunter means "a colony well fed", a leading guard means "a safe and secure colony", and a leading healer means "a colony in good health".
used in a sentence. [ Snake Fang watched the Dragonfly deputy waltz past with her patrol. "Her company's leading," he explained to his apprentice in a low growl. "Mouse-brained Dragonfly guards think they're invincible now. As if Leader Lion is enough to protect them from getting some sense shredded into them." ]
stone castings n; casting stones v: a voting system that's been around for generations. casting stones is most commonly practiced during the choosing of a new leader, but can sometimes be initiated when the colony or a specific company is having difficulty coming to an agreement. usually the leader will decide things for the colony, but sometimes minor issues are decided by casting stones. only the leader and deputies can announce an official stone casting, but it isn't uncommon for young warriors and apprentices to imitate what they see and host unofficial, mini stone castings amongst themselves. it is frowned upon, but not uncommon.
casting stones for a new leader occurs after the death of the old one. it can take up to several days to be initiated, for the healers want to ensure that the old leader's spirit had made it safely to the stars before choosing the new one. once the healers confirm the old leader's safe passing, the deputies will announce the start of the stone casting. the three deputies will sit in a row outside of the old leader's den, and the colony will each place his / her stone in front of the cat they wish to become the next leader. elders vote first, and their votes carry the most influence over what the rest of the colony may choose. healers vote next, then guards, then hunters, and finally nesting queens. queens and teachers vote under their respective company. kits, new recruits, and apprentices are not permitted to vote in any form of stone casting. once a company is finished with voting, they are dismissed to go about their colony duties. some like to stay back and watch the others vote. stone castings aren't common, so most cats find them interesting and gossip-worthy, and worth missing out on a patrol or two.

☯ The Dragonfly Colony ☯ "Poisoned by beauty too immense to be beautiful."
☯ About ☯ The Colonies are two separate groups of cats inhabiting the pine forest territory. These cats can be easily distinguished by their unique naming system.
The name a kit receives at birth is the name they will carry until they receive a title. A "title" is a prefix or suffix added to a cat's name after doing something honorable or ranking up. Titles are often associated with a cat's appearance, personality, or rank within the colony, but can also be associated with how they earned their title.
ex: a cat may be born with the name "Budding Rose" but have it changed to "Budding Rose in Mint Field" after becoming a well known healer. When being introduced, others may recognize the addition of his / her name as a sign that he / she deals in medicine or herbs.
another ex: a cat born as "Lion" may earn the title "Roar of Vicious Lion" after proving themselves to be fierce and threatening in battle. They may also become "Lion With Big Heart" after proving to be kind-hearted and compassionate. Cats are only addressed by their title in a form manner.
Each colony is divided into four categories of cats with specific skillsets. These categories are called "companies".
guards: in charge of defending the colony. guards patrol the territory for threats, check the borders, protect the camp and engage in combat against threats. guards are assigned to watch over hunting patrols, training sessions, and herb-gatherings. hunters: in charge of feeding the colony. they hunt in patrols and keep the fresh-kill pile stocked. they make sure prey is distributed evenly to every cat. healers: in charge of keeping the colony healthy. they find, create, and distribute medicine and herbs for sick cats and are the only living liaisons between the colonies and the deceased. they interpret omens and prophecies, and are the only cats capable of seeing, speaking to, and visiting their ancestors. healers have the title "healer" before their name and often drop their suffixes. ex: Healer Budding Rose in Mint Field or Healer Budding Rose nesting queens: in charge of caring for and guiding new mothers. unlike regular queens, nesting queens stay in the nursery forever. they start off as new mothers and can decide to become "nest-bound" after having a litter of kits. they can originate from any company besides healers (as healers are forbidden from becoming "nest-bound"), but cannot return once they are committed. feelings towards nesting queens are mixed, as some cats see them as quitters while others are grateful for their service to the colony's future hunters and fighters. Not all cats can fit into these four categories. Low-ranking cats such as kits are not old not old enough to be categorized, whereas high-ranking cats such as deputies and the leader have surpassed the bindings of a company. deputies: there are three deputy positions: deputy of hunting, deputy of guarding, and deputy of healing. a new deputy is chosen by the leader when the previous deputy of that company dies or retires. when the leader dies, a new leader is chosen amongst the three deputies by the colony. deputies are in charge of running the company they are assigned to. a deputy of healing keeps all of the healers in line, etc. deputies have the title "deputy" before their title and often drop their suffixes. ex: Deputy Lion or Deputy Lion With Big Heart leader: the leader is chosen by the colony through casting stones. once leader, the healers "cleanse" him / her and "reshape" him / her to become "honorable" throughout several days. the leader is monitored closely by the elders until given approval to proceed on his / her own. the is then free to leader settle disagreements between deputies and make drastic decisions that affect the colony. the leader appoints assignments to teachers and may reward titles. leaders are also representatives and speak for their colony during gatherings. leaders are formally referred to as "leader" by colonymates and "leader ______ " by outsiders. only relatives and close companions refer to him / her by his / her given name in private. ex: Leader Lion; just Lion by relatives in private or Leader Rose; just Budding Rose in private (elders choose what part of their name to address them as, like "Leader Rose", or "Leader Budding" or "Leader Budding Rose") it is not uncommon for leaders who dropped their suffixes as deputies to get new suffixes relating to the companies they originated from. ex: Leader Lion of Guarding; Leader Rose of Healing elders: cats retired from their respective companies. they are honored for their experience and looked to for guidance and wisdom. their votes during casting stones are weighed heavier than the votes of any other cats and often influence the votes of others. they're in charge of observing newly announced leaders until they deem them fit for service. queens: she-cats expecting kits. not much to explain here. teachers: cats that are extremely skilled in their respective companies and tasked with teaching new recruits. teachers are placed in groups of three - a cat from each company excluding nesting queens - and are assigned multiple new recruits or "assignments" to train together (depending on the amount of kits becoming recruits). the trio of teachers are responsible for teaching their assignments basic skills from each company for an entire moon. at the end of the moon, the trio tests their assignments to determine which company is best fit for each one. the trio then appoints each assignment to a permanent mentor in the company most fit for him / her. teachers may reward titles to assignments who show outstanding potential, but can reward titles to assignments only. they cannot reward a title to an apprentice, guard, hunter, etc. besides "queen", "teacher" is the only temporary position. once teaching is complete, he / she either returns to working in his / her respective company or is reassigned to a new trio with a new set of assignments (depending on demand for teachers). cats that have previously been teachers are most likely to become deputy than any other cat in their respective company. assignments (new recruits): young cats learning new skills that will determine what company they are assigned to. they train for a moon, and are considered to be in "alpha stage" of training. apprentices: young cats assigned to work under a cat in the company they show the most potential in. they shadow their mentors who teach them the ins and outs of working in their company. training can last from 4 to 8 moons depending on the apprentice and how fast they learn, and they are considered to be in the "beta stage" of training. the average training time is 6 moons. kits: kittens too young to train in any company. they stay with their mothers in the nursery until 6 moons before training as assignments under a trio of teachers. ☯ Territory ☯ The Colonies inhabit a coniferous forest in the northern hemisphere. The Dragonflies take up the left side of the forest. Dragonfly territory is overrun with overgrowth and large, beautiful plants and shrubbery. The forest is abundant in firs, spruces, and pines that overlap one another and cast a persistent shield over the land. Drinking Hole: A small pond of water the cats and other animals frequent for a drink, Southwest of the camp. Fallen Tree: A fallen spruce tree North of the Dragonfly camp that houses plenty of mice and voles. Meadow: A large field full of wild flowers and grass Southeast of the Dragonfly camp. It is commonly used as a training ground for assignments and apprentices. Abandoned Two-leg Path (West border): A trail that runs from North to South and acts as the border between the Fireflies and Dragonflies. The Northern part of the trail branches off into Dragonfly territory and leads to an abandoned two-leg nest in the heart of the territory. East border: A stretch of trees that slowly faded out into the open. Abandoned Two-leg Nest A small cabin in the heart of Dragonfly territory, Northeast of the camp. The nest is surrounded by an assortment of herbs, mostly catmint. Two-leg Place: A small row of cabins and houses far East of the colony territories. The town is overpopulated with kittypets and loners for the sake of ridding the area of mice. ☯ Territory ☯ The Colonies inhabit a coniferous forest in the northern hemisphere. The Firefly Colony resides in the right side of the forest. The Firefly's side of the territory was destroyed in a fire many years ago and has barely regrown any of its trees. There are a few healthy pines, but most of the trees are charred or burned down. The undergrowth of the forest is low and barely surviving. Northern Stream: a Stream north of the Firefly camp. It's thinner and more shallow than the Southern stream, contain less fish, and it closest to the Firefly camp. Southern Stream: a stream South of the Firefly camp. It's a lot more abundant in fish than the Northern stream and is wider with larger waves. It is the furthest from the Firefly camp. Branch Pile: a pile of fallen charred trees and branches that form a humungous pile of rubble. Apprentices often play here and is a good place to hide from pursuing predators. Far South of the Firefly camp near the Southern Stream. Training Hollow: a barren clearing North of the Firefly camp that is used to train assignments and young apprentices to fight. Swamplands: A muddy, swampy area Northeast of the Firefly camp that houses frogs, lizards, and snakes. Close to the Northern Stream. Camp
The Firefly camp is hidden underground in a small tunneling system. The entrance to the camp is a mildly open cavern with two entrances, and plenty of light to offer. Many tinier caves are attached to the main cavern, some only big enough to hold one to two cats and some big enough to hold more than seven or eight, connected by tunnels- where they are varies. Some prefer the quiet of being at the end of a tunnel with a small den. Mainly families or friends sleep in the same den, including elders, although there are some special caves- for herb storage and a den for the sick and injured, a nursery, and the leader's den.
Main Cave: Large cave in the heart of the tunnels. Cats come here to eat and socialize, as well as be assigned to patrols. The leader speaks from a rock jutting out of the cave's wall known as the Highrock. There is also a pile of moss at the center of the cave that is used as a watering hole and is changed frequently. Leader's Den: A luxurious cave, close to the main cave and near the Highrock. Its entrance is covered with lichen and it's big enough to hold the leader and their family- up to seven or eight cats can sleep in there with plenty of room. Medicine Den: Considered to be the largest den. No healers sleep here, however- it's used for herb storage and a sleeping area for any sick or injured cats. Healers visit almost every day to check up on patients or the herbs. Nursery: A secluded but large cave a tunnel away from the main cave. Moss and feathers pad this den, cozy for queens and safe for their kits. Expecting queens and queens with their kits rest here.
Predators. Wolves (Rare) Bears (Very uncommon) Lynxes (Very uncommon) Elk (Uncommon) Twolegs (Uncommon) Foxes (Common) Snakes (Common) Wolverines (Very common) words words words

» Oooo, that is really good! So a fire swept through the colonies long ago, but only half of the territory flourished? If so, then maybe this event significantly changes one of the colony's beliefs. Maybe the colony in the charred forest believes their ancestors abandoned them. Or maybe they simply embrace it and adjust to the changes of their territory. Since the trees no long provide decent protection, maybe they thrive at night. What do you think? «

» Ooo! I really like the glowing algae idea alsoyou'resoluckytogettoseeit So the ancestors place could be a small lake full of glowing algae, yeah? Maybe next to a willow or something for aesthetic measures.
As far as the gathering place goes, I'm thinking somewhere on solid ground. Like a clearing with a rock mound for the leaders to stand on or something similar. Or maybe the gathering place burned down long ago and the Fireflies have ceased to cooperate with the Dragonflies. Maybe their lack of faith in their ancestors could pose as a threat against the dragonfly colony, as they no longer abide by a truce or "code". That could be an interesting plot point.
Maybe after generations of "getting by", the Fireflies decide they want to conquer the Dragonflies for their territory.
Dragonflies put the ancestors and beliefs above all else, and the Fireflies put themselves and their survival above all else?
Just random ideas that are popping in my head. «

»Yeah! Basically like that. Coming up with these ideas are a lot easier than I expected. The first prophecy could be about finding a new gathering place and convincing the Fireflies to participate in a gathering after so many moons of not having one, or something dramatic like that. After a good war of course..
Also, any ideas for customs other than the ones I already have? I feel like the Fireflies' customs will be different since they have no beliefs, but I'm not sure how to make them different. «

Perhaps when something unusual is caught, say a vulture or some other large animal, the colony could have a "feast" of some sort. The leaders would host, of course, and they also get the first bite. Then it goes in the same order as the stone casting. It could be said that their ancestors are granting them with good eating, and if the leader was from the hunting company, then that could add even more, let's say hope, for the colony, saying that they get more food while they're in the lead. And if they don't catch something big every so often, they could feel as if their ancestors are angry with them. Just a thought.
And as for the dragonflies, i'm not sure what to do with them, ahha! I'm thinking they'll just drop the parts with their ancestors instead of abandoning the entire custom.

WORDS
I'm down to help!
Also, first thing I thought of for Firefly watching you guys discuss is like Spartan culture? How they are much more battle-oriented and survival-oriented than the other colony? bUT, they are not necessarily cruel, and often find creative and humane ways to employ cats who don't fit their standards, etc.? Sparta did many mercy acts despite their reputation, Firefly could be similar? Just a suggestion when thinking of cultures/traditions c:
Dragonflies could be very involved in their religion as suggested, but perhaps some cats are beginning to have doubts? As in, what kind of ancestor destroys another clan's territory? No "good ancestors" could be the cause of something so terrible, so perhaps some cats are beginning to have doubts simply because of the severity of what has occurred to neighboring Fireflies?

» Welcome aboard, ᴍɪsᴛғᴀʟʟ » . I really like the idea of a few Dragonflies beginning to doubt their ancestors! Maybe in the future there will be a plot to revive their trust and beliefs. Also dou I like the feast idea! I'll add vultures to the prey list as rare, as well as other birds of prey and add the custom. So for the Fireflies, they will have the same traditions as the Dragonflies, but they will be executed differently. Casting stones for example will lose its spiritual value. The colony probably won't wait for the deceased leader's spirit to pass before picking the new leader. I'll come up with a better explanation later and add it to the page. Any other ideas for customs or territory? Does the naming system need tweaking? I'm a little nervous that I made it too complicated, or not complicated enough. «

» Also, your comparison of the Spartans to the Fireflies is brilliant. In order to conclude how the Fireflies handle situations, I must first come up with how the Dragonflies do it and then go off of that. That shouldn't be too hard though. Maybe the Dragonflies could actually be seen as the "cruel ones", but are excused because their beliefs justify them.
GASP. What if they have been misinterpreting their ancestor's wishes this entire time? Plot-twist. «

WORDS I like the naming system, I'm sure it won't be too difficult to get used to.
The ancestors could be vengeful beings at some points too- in ancient history (cant remember the civilization name, might've been Mesopotamia) there was a culture that believed their gods to be fickle and aggressive, casting bad luck on them all the time.
I like the concept of the Dragonfly colony being a of corrupt, high-horse mentality who believe entirely in their ancestors. The elders could be extremely powerful, and the leader a puppet to them? A group of dissenting cats could convince the leader later down the road to stand up for themselves and realize all this is wrong. It is actually the Firefly colony who doesnt typically cast out or kill disabled cats or those who don't fit the standard (their standard being harsh considering their absolute need for survival on the land they have left), are more understanding to plights, etc. Still, they are survivalists, and when they battle, it's to the death and man will they make things hard for their enemies. Perhaps both colonies have animosity? Dragonfly thinks themselves entitled because their land was "saved", perhaps it means they are much more strict about their religion and their code, almost too strict, with the absolute need to be perfect to "please the ancestors"? Could be slightly morbid with the possibility of throwing away useless cats, but a plot point if we wished to use it. They don't want to help the Firefly colony because they think them cursed, and Dragonfly in general thinks themselves entitled anyway. The Firefly colony could be vengeful, angry, and doesn't want to work with such a high-horse colony who didn't offer help to them in the first place, cant even see their own problems and corruption, and in general have an overall gross understanding of the usefulness of cats, how cats need to be perfect, need to follow every order, and must be entirely devoted to their ancestors?
A bit of a ramble there, but it's what I came up with! I like the goodluck view of a firefly or dragonfly going by. Maybe a butterfly is super sweet? If Dragonfly is super crazy about ancestors, if a firefly comes to their cats and remains for a few moments, they could either believe it to be that the Fireflies will do something bad to them OR could believe it to be a sign that the colonies need to work together. But I like the idea of each respective insect being sacred and important c:

» Absolutely brilliant! The bugs for good luck idea is perfect, and the contrast between the Dragonflies and the Fireflies could not be better summarized. I love it! I'm also glad that you both approve of the naming idea. I really like it but wasn't sure if others would be so keen about it.
I'm typing up some character plot ideas for you guys to see, so I may respond late for a short bit. I'll be done in a second.
Also, what should the ratio of guards to hunters to healers be? I'm thinking 4:2:1? Just to keep the flow of characters steady. A colony with 4 guards and 10 healers would be bad. «

» Yeah! The hunters will be in charge of everything prey related. Each company will have their own little system of handling things.
I'm still working on finishing the individual character plot ideas, but it won't be too long now before I'm done. All that's left is history, a code, and a name for the ancestors. They can just be called the ancestors if we can't think of anything.
For history, the colony could have originally been one huge band of cats. There could have been a disagreement that caused the colony to split. Events such as the first gathering and the creation of the colony code will be added to the history list as b.f. (before fire). There will be many seasons of peace and war before the fire rips through Firefly territory, and everything occurring afterwards will be a.t. (after tragedy). Does that sound okay? (I didn't use a.f. because I can't take that seriously;;) The reason for the split and specific events for b.f and a.t. still need to be decided.
I just thought of something interesting. Instead of a code, there could be an oath. Or oaths. An oath for each company? You swear an oath whenever you rank up or something. Kits swear an oath to never lie or fake skills that could alter which path they take when becoming assignments. Apprentices swear to abide by the oath specific to their company before being accepted into it. Etc, etc. What do you guys think?
Also, I'm still torn on whether the ancestors should be vengeful or not. It's something I haven't seen in a Warriors RP before and will definitely be interesting, but I'm afraid it may be too dark. Like a "we can't turn to our ancestors anymore because they're extremely flawed and all hope is lost" kind of thing. Unless it's temporary? Maybe there's a prophecy that sends a small group of cats out on an adventure to bring peace to the ancestors? I'm typing this as I think and I suddenly really like the idea. The ancestors are vengeful for a reason, and they must find out why and figure out how to fix it before it's too late. Yeah? «

WORDS
I like ratios c: Glad you enjoy my ideas btw
I like the oath idea- that could be a plot point too, that someone in a position of power got there by lying about their skills and cats find out, etc.
Haha I tend to lean more towards having morbid roleplay plots that are steadily fixed and peace is restored and life gets better for cats. I certainly understand not wanting that to be very prevalent, assuming the Dragonflies and the Fireflies are already having some real difficulties inside them (based on my concept of the colonies). We could certainly put in an adventure in there, but it could lose interest and favorite some cats. We could definitely try it though! Or, cats could come from outside of the colonies with prophecies, relations to cats in the colonies, etc. that help the colony cats realize their views have been flawed and things in life need to change? Or something along that, but I like the ancestors being temporarily vengeful and each clan needs to figure out a way to have their luck turn. The ancestors punished Dragonfly by allowing poisonous cats to live and prey on eachother in a flourishing territory, while punishing Firefly by allowing good, moral cats to survive on burnt and weak territory. They have to figure out what they did wrong and fix it?

» Hmmm, you're right. I don't want anyone to feel excluded... So an adventure probably isn't the best. And yeah, the colonies must figure out what they did wrong and fix it. There will probably be cats in a prophecy who must convince the others that they need to change their ways. Also, I really like the idea of outside cats coming in with prophecies. This gives me so many ideas.
I think the RP should start with one or both leaders passing away or retiring. This makes it so we all have time to adjust to one another before an official leader is chosen; and the colony gets to choose! I want to make it a rule that the character must make the choice and not the RPer. Who would the character choose to be leader? Why? Good opportunity for character growth.
The plot can really start to kick in once the new leaders have been chosen. The RPers may decide the relationship between the new leaders; they could have a personal vendetta against one another or be friendly. Maybe they secretly respect one another. It could be romantic. The possibilities are endless; I encourage internal conflicts. I like seeing mini-plots develop through RP. As long as it doesn't heavily affect the colonies, mini-plots don't need my approval.
Moving on, the corrupt elders is an idea I also really enjoy. Dragonfly elders may use the leader as a puppet depending on who gets chosen.
There will also be a corrupt Dragonfly healer with a personal agenda. He could be distributing fake omens and prophecies to the rest of the colony and using them to manipulate other cats. The Fireflies can't disproof his lies because they no longer communicate with the ancestors, and he may be holding something against the healers below him to keep them quiet. Maybe one of the healers breaks his/ her silence which causes an uproar.
I'm still working on the rest... I can't think of a prophecy, but that can be worked on in the future, as well as the main plot. I need to figure out why the ancestors are vengeful, and how the colonies can bring them peace.
In the meantime, you both may feel free to claim spots for characters now. I'm claiming the corrupt healer for myself, as well as the Dragonfly guarding deputy and the Firefly hunting deputy. The rest are up for grabs (but don't grab all of them). Also, Try to keep the ratio in mind! «

Cats coming in or being given and acting upon prophecies sounds the best way to include everyone! Every character has its own personality and friend group, some cats could be more privy to things than others, etc. It makes for a good plot. I find the defective healer to be an interesting device as well! Im just curious as to why the healer is doing what they are doing and how you would like that plot to end? As in, do you have a vision for how you think that'll end yet or are we still working on it? c:
I like the concept of both leaders dying and new ones chosen- the Dragonfly one being used as a puppet by the elders. We can certainly discuss how we would like the relationship of the leaders to be.
Perhaps the reason the ancestors were angry is because of the colonies' lack of respect for them or for the land? Perhaps the Dragonfly colony prided themselves on having the best teamwork, the best attachment to the ancestors, etc., so the ancestors punished them by letting them keep a flourishing, healthy exterior while poisoning their interior with corruptions and deceit. The Firefly colony could've prided themselves on their land, but they had no sense of community with eachother, and in so disrespected the ancestors who had created the colonies to be family units. Hence, they are punished by their land being swallowed up by fire, forcing them to work on their community on the inside- a gross exterior to a beautiful interior, vice versa to the Dragonfly colony. Just suggestions!
