hereith lies mine and clover's one-on-one :3
so, i actually dug through my activity history and dug up the last of their interactions!
~~
Simon glanced up, surprised at what he assumed was a compliment from Ari. "Well- I agree with that statement. You don't seem to have much, well, reason. You act on impulse- which isn't a bad thing, just who you are." He blinked, trying to explain his line of thought. "Some people just don't click with impulsiveness. You're right, they're a bit stupid." He conceded, sliding the carrots into the slow cooker.
Ari blinked. Not a bad thing. "My stepsister says I'm going to get myself killed one day. Or worse, arrested and thrown in jail with a life sentence," he said, watching Simon cook as he leaned against the counter. "She says even though I've got a brain I don't have a good head on my shoulders. Which sounds funny but makes sense, I have to admit." He scuffed his foot against the floor. Suddenly he had the urge to tell Simon more about his stepsister, how annoying she can be, how wretched it made him feel when he could just sense her trying and he'll just be a stubborn *** whining and sulking and talking about death all the time because there's that feeling that he just can't help it.
He wondered if it would be worth it. "We used to hate each other, but now Lindy's trying to look out for me and I hate it." I hate that she's wasting her time.

Ari chewed his lip. There came the hard question he was dreading. Now that she's trying, now it feels like I have to try. But I feel so tired all the time I don't want to, and that very fact makes me feel like the worst person because I'm always giving Lindy a hard time and instead of screaming at me she's being patient and making me feel even more shitty but I can't do anything I can't everytime I try I fail I can't I CANT - "It's so weird," is what came out. "It's such a one-eighty, you know? It's practically suffocating now - and I can't even tell if she's actually concerned or just pretending so that she can. I don't know. Do - something."
Ugh. "Do you have a balcony that I can. Like. Go out on or something?" he said, tapping a finger against his arm.

Ari knew that look. Lindy used to give him that look. So he responded like he did her: with a wrinkled nose and a flip of the hair. "I'm just going out for a smoke," he said. "Unless you'd rather I light a cigarette in here."

Simon couldn't help but giggle at the flip of the hair, before the giggle died down at the comment of a smoke. "Oh- yeah, no, you aren't doing that in here. Last time she even found some ashes in the house she freaked. She also freaked when she found some outside, so I have another place in mind. Follow me," He said, checking the crockpot and setting the top on before heading back towards his room. He paused like he always did at the stairs, wondering how his mother actually thought he'd be able to scale these things without being in pain. He'd tried to tell her before, but she never listened, saying he'd toughen up and get used to it eventually. Great mom, if you couldn't tell. He started his own slow descent up the stairs, the familiar dull ache getting progressively worse as he walked further up. By the time they'd made it up the stairs his face had paled a little, but he was upright, which was good. He made his way to his room and opened the window, before wiggling out and revealing a small alcove of sorts with two pillows and a coffee can used as an ash tray. "Here." He said simply, plopping down on one of the pillows and leaning against the roof.

((gotta hit the hay after this one!))
Ari could notice Simon's slow pace, the strain apparent on his face. He was quiet, noting how Simon seemed to be used to trudging up the stairs in such a state. A chronic pain? He filed the information in his head.
He followed Simon out the window, looking around at the small, comfy makeshift den. "Huh," he said, pleasantly surprised. "Nice." He flopped down onto the other pillow beside Simon and pulled out his cigarette pack, sticking one in his mouth. "Want one?" he said around the cigarette, holding the pack out with raised eyebrows.
((i was like, wondering where he was getting his cigarette pack - his backpack? his pocket? then "from somewhere. no one knows where" popped into my head and i found it too ridiculous to add but had to mention))

"Mm," Ari hummed as he stashed his pack and pulled out his own lighter. It was strangely nice, lounging here and smoking with someone. Most of the time he hung out in a secluded place alone, trying to ignore other humans.
He drew it into his lungs and let his head rest against the wall, watching the smoke swirl out of his mouth. Ari tilted his head, seeing Simon rubbing at his leg. As casual as the moment was, Ari couldn't help but link it to Simon's walk up the stairs. "Your leg okay?" he said, tucking his lighter back into his pocket.

Simon was enjoying actually being able to smoke with someone else. Most people just gave him a disapproving look, tell him that he was ruining his already shot lungs, so it was nice being with someone who wasn't judging him for his, ah, habit. He blinked, a little surprised at the question, retracting his hand away from where his leg met the prosthetic.
"Huh? Oh, uh, y-yeah," He stuttered a little, before taking another drag, holding the smoke in his lungs just for a few moments before breathing it out finally, watching as the smoke lazily rose and disappeared. He knew he shouldn't be so embarrassed about it, hell, the guy was missing an arm, but he still felt weird about talking about it. He fixed his glasses, closing his eyes for a few moments, before peeking over at the prosthetic arm on the other boy, a little curious but refraining from asking.

"You can ask," Ari said bluntly, raising his prosthetic and raising an eyebrow. "I don't care. Don't try to be polite around me." It was more of a casual I'm cool bro rather than a demand. He turned his wrist, studying his own arm for a contemplative moment. "I lost it when I was young," he said. "Back in Bangladesh. I can't really remember it - I hit my head pretty hard, apparently. My mom doesn't like to talk about it, so I'm kinda left in the dark about what happened, exactly. Convenient, I know, but -" he shrugged. "I only got a prosthetic when we moved to America. I'm about 94.6% certain that Mom decided to marry that businessman because I needed medical attention." He was quiet for a moment as he raised the cigarette to his lips. "She wasn't the richest person."
Ari looked over at Simon, eyebrows coming together. "Weird. I usually don't tell people about that part." He turned his gaze back outwards. "What's your story, then?"

Simon blinked, a blush covering his slightly pale features at the comment of him being allowed to ask. He frowned a little bit at the comment of him losing it when they lived in Bangladesh. He straightened his back at the comment of him not remembering much about it, and he nodded slowly. He sighed, before tipping his head to one side. "How... how much is left?" He asked softly. A bit of a morbid question, he knew, but he was curious and jenwanted to know. " and how old where you when you moved here?" He added, looking over at Ari. Of course his back stiffened a little when Ari asked about his story and he shifted a little, his hand running over his prosthetic without thinking about it. His jeans were baggy enough to hide the prosthetic, and he knew he should share his own story, but he was still reluctant to. He bit his lip, before pulling up his pant leg, showing the prosthetic. "Cancer." He said simply, before continuing on. "When I was eight I was diagnosed with bone cancer, I lost my foot. That's the only part that the cancer had pretty much destroyed, but last year it came back, and I lost the rest of it from the knee down. " he said with a shrug, a little surprised when he admitted that. He usually tried to hide his prosthetic.

((haha, that is interesting! yeah, ari actually doesn't get that... er, happy? flippant? until like. middle of college. very dark bby. he's always snarky and dramatic tho))
Ari blinked at Simon before a smile twisted upon his face. "Wanna see?"
He reached back and pulled off his sweatshirt, careful to make sure his shirt doesn't ride up. His short-sleeved tee revealed how the prosthetic reached all the way up to mid-upper arm. "It's body-powered," he said, the harness strapped across his back pressing against him as he shifted to raise his arm. "Mom wanted me to get a myoelectric one, but that was too expensive." He shrugged. "S'not waterproof anyway, so I don't mind."
He nodded at Simon's leg. "Sorry about your cancer. Funny, though - I was eight when I moved here."
Ari frowned and took a drag. "You know, when I first met you, I figured you were just some, I dunno, goody two-shoes trying to keep me out of trouble." He smirked, looking at their smoking cigarettes. "Who knew we'd have so much in common?"

Simon leaned forward, studying the prosthetic in interest. It looked a lot different than his, which was really just used for evening out his leg. He needed it to walk, yeah, but he still had both of his knees for the time being, so his wasn't high-tech. He nodded at the explanation, before his face twisted a little bit about the apology. It was irked him when someone apologized for that- it wasn't like they caused his cancer.
"'s fine. Not really a big deal," He mumbled, waving it off a little as he pulled his pant leg back down with one hand. He leaned back, taking a drag as he nodded slowly. So he was eight when he came here. Does he miss it? Simon wondered, studying the other curiously before blinking at the comment and wrinkling his nose.
"I was tryin' to get you out of trouble. I probably will if you try to do anything to get you expelled," He huffed, although there wasn't any offense in his eyes. If anything he was just being a little playful as he breathed out the smoke slowly.

Ari didn't miss the way Simon's face shifted when "sorry" left his mouth, and bit his bottom lip hard. He had been pondering longer than he usually did what to say to Simon's story - he felt a strange urge to say something, something that's not dismissive or, well, rude, which was weird because he didn't like thinking about being polite. But for some reason, with Simon, he had deferred to the traditional social thing to say. (Was it because he still thought of Simon as the typical sheep that clung to society's rules? But Simon's not, if he thought about it. Not really.) Weird. Weird weird weird. "Still sucks, though," he said.
He snorted and rolled his eyes. "Ah, yes, you did such a good job keeping me out of the restricted burnt school building," he said wryly, smirking. "Don't worry, getting expelled's not on my to-do list. My mom would give me hell."
He tapped his cigarette and watched the ash fall, letting the conversation meet a lull. Ari liked silence to fall now and again, if to give him a little time to recharge from human interaction. "Say, how much longer for the food?" he said.

"Yeah. Well it sucks you lost your arm, too," Simon pointed out, before wincing at the comment. Okay, maybe that went a little to far. "S-sorry, I didn't mean to be rude..." He sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose before taking another drag of his cigarette. He then gave a small, half hearted shrug, not really knowing hwawt else to say. This was just awkward now, and he wasn't sure how Ari was going to receive that comment.
He snorted at that, using his good leg to kick the other good heartedly. He smiled a little bit, before rolling his eyes at the comment. "Well at least I tried. What would you have done if someone caught you in the burnt shell of the school?" He pointed out wryly, before falling quietly as well. He closed his eyes, strangely enjoying the company of the other, something that was throwing him off. He never liked being with people. They stressed him out too much. So why did he relax around this kid?
"Hmm?" He asked, hearing the question but not really listening. He opened his blue eyes, looking at him blankly, clearly not catching what he had said. He sat up, tapping his cigarette and looking back at Ari.

((they're like having three separate conversations i swear))
"Yeah, it does," Ari said distantly, taking a drag. He looked up at Simon's next words and wrinkled his nose in confusion. "That was rude?" he said, genuinely surprised. "I didn't think - it's just the truth, isn't it?" he said. "...hm. I'm not too good at figuring out this rude-polite thing."
"Tch," Ari smirked, nudging Simon back with his foot. "I'd just tell them that I figured I could do a better job finding the source of the fire than they could - and hey, I did." He tilted his head back, humming. "Hey, we should totally do something like that again."
"Food," Ari said, pointing to his open mouth. "Hungry. Feed me."

(Yeah they are omg I don't know how to stop it with it making sense )
Simon hummed his agreement, knowing it did suck. Honestly it was nice that there was someone else here that understood what he was going through on that note, even if it was two totally different limbs that they had lost. "Yeah. I am too, I think... It just confuses me. I never know if what I'm gonna say is going to p.iss someone off or not, so I usually just don't talk at all," He agreed, before looking at him unamused as his foot was nudged. "Dude, that would still get you in trouble. Admins, like, way to strict," He pointed out, smirking just a little bit at the thought of this kid trying to talk himself out of getting suspended. He put his cigarette out, tapping out the ashes before dropping the butt in the small trash bin he kept out on this little alcove. "Should have eaten before you went to school," He sneered playfully, but he pulled himself up, wincing as he put weight on his leg.
(I was pulling that from the old rp, if you wanna change the uniform thing, though, that'd be cool too. ^^)

((eh, it's fun))
"Hm, that's one way to go about it," Ari said. "I got lost my ability to care about p*ssing people off a long time ago." He shrugged. "Sometimes it's funny, actually. Especially if it's admins - they like flail about wildly in confusion if someone questions them, or doesn't immediately bow down just because they happen to have control." He almost crushed his cigarette into the roof surface but quickly caught himself and followed Simon's actions to the little trash bin. "And I mean, like, we should go out and investigate something again. It'd probably be relatively fun."
"Ugh, there was nothing easy to eat," Ari groaned as he hauled himself up. "No grab-and-go, and that's a no-go. I've got no time to prep anything in the morning."
((it's cool!))

"Aw, are you scared?" Ari said, tone teetering on the line between teasing and mocking. Scared for me? "Getting into trouble's not, like, a death sentence," he said. "What's the worst they can do? Suspend me from school? Expel me? Wow, how horrible, I don't have to go to school anymore," Ari said with a roll of his eyes. "Like I want to be there anyway. Thanks for letting me skip school."
He brushed the seat of his pants and followed Simon inside. "'Challenging authority is a terrible idea!' Ugh, you sound so much like my sister you wouldn't believe," he said. "And why not more investigations? There's this little shop down the street that I'm 95% positive is infested with ghosts," he said. "And I'm pretty sure there's a locker thief running amok at school."
Ari's stomach was growling like crazy at the mention of food. "Go-to bars are gross, and I hate peeling hard boiled eggs," he whined. "And my mom's started hiding the brownies in the morning so those are out of the question. Is the soup ready? It is soup, right? I can't remember."

"Yeah. I am," Simon retorted, his face darkening just a little bit at the teasing. He didn't know why he was so scared for this kid, he just was. He didn't want to see him get into trouble, it was like second hand fear. He shuddered at the thought of the administration with their pursed lips, glaring at you after they realized that you were a bad kid... yeah not something that Simon was a fan of. "Okay. S-so You get expelled. Then you'd need to get a GED, but no college wants that, and what if you don't get a college degree? Then you're screwed and working as a janitor at the school for the rest of your life! Or worse, you'll be one of those managers at McDonalds who hates everyone because you don't have the choice of not working there. Plus, have I mentioned how terrifying those admins are? Even when they're not angry they look pis.sed!" He responded immediately, eyes wide with the horror of his imagination.
"And so what if I sound like her? Is that really such a bad thing? I mean, like, if she's telling you thats a bad idea! And ghosts? No way!! Ghosts mean possessions, or hauntings... Have you seen literally any horror movie? Thats how you get into those situations!" He added, pausing when they got to the stairwell. His face contorted into a grimace, not looking forward to this part. He could always slide down... which is what he usually did but now he had someone over. That would be horrifying and undignified... He'd just have to suck it up. He hesitated, taking the first step down and wincing in pain, the familiar dull ache coming back rather quickly. He looked over at Ari, an unamused expression on his face.
" Make muffins for the week. DOn't make excuses." He chided before taking another hesitant step, his face looking rather contorted as he focused on going down the stairs. "The soups going to be a couple hours at least. But we can probably throw some popcorn in the microwave," He added, rolling his eyes at the others antics. He really needed to get a grip on eating, and there was no way he was going to serve the soup early, that would mean hard vegetables and that just wouldn't do.

((i forgot where they're at rn and am assuming america for now ^.^''))
Ari marveled at Simon. "Wow, you really sound like her," he said, more amazed than annoyed to his own surprise. "Here, allow me to put your mind at rest - all that stuff about college? Bullsh/t," he said, carefully enunciating the word. "Actual sh/t spoonfed to you so that parents can brag about sending their kid to Stanford or Harvard or something. In actuality, less than half of America's adults actually has a college degree. Sure, I guess you can say college makes it a little easier to get money, if that's what you're aiming for, but there's stuff like vocational schools and there's art and theater and writing and stuff that doesn't actually need a degree. Heck, you don't even need to get into a fancy college - like, community college exists."
Ari shrugged. "And what's wrong with a GED, really? All it really says is that you didn't graduate high school - which, if you think about it, is even more impressive, because essentially you're smart enough to know sh/t without going to school. And you save time by not learning all that useless cr/p high school shoves down your throat. Frees your brain to learn important things. Like taxes. And satanical rituals for raising the dead."
He paused and looked up in thought. "Now that I think about it, why haven't I dropped out yet...?"
((ari no))
Ari smirked at Simon's face. "Dude, I want to get into those situations. It'd be a lot less boring than going to history class." He frowned at Simon painfully making his way down the stairs. "There's... gotta be a better way down, right?" he said bluntly, not taking the time to consider whether it's polite to ask.
Then he made a whining noise at the back of his throat. "A few hours?" he groaned, throwing a hand over his forehead and staggering down the steps in an overly dramatic fashion. "Why do you torture me with empty promises of food?"

(I love Ari omg. Also I did a doodle of Simon x3 )
Simon rolled his eyes as Ari insisted that going to college was bulls.hit. How could it be? His mother really never forced the idea down his throat, frankly he wanted to go on and escape this he.llhole of a home. Getting a good scholarship from an out of state college was his ticket out and he was planning on taking it. "Yeah, you're right but if you play your cards right you can get good scholarships and get the he.ll out of this town. I don't know about you, but that's my plan. Plus you'd get to do plenty of cool things at colleges- and don't think of dropping out, I mean, yeah high school is boring but just finish it out. " he continued, not really meaning to lecture him but ending up doing so on accident. His eyes were wide, almost protesting, like he was honestly struggling with the idea of not going to college (he'd die if he found out he wouldn't be going to college for a few years, which was the reality of the situation), or how someone could actually not want to complete high school.
Sure, there were bullies. Simons had to deal with them for years, but he found comfort in his academics. Well, that and drugs. But he really didn't smoke anything worse the a cigarette frequently, so he didn't count it. Either way, he didn't see how someone could actually want to drop out, especially someone as smart as Ari seemed to be.
He winced at the blunt statement. There was an easier way but, frankly? He didn't want to slide down the stairs in front of someone who was basically a stranger. So he just gave a small shrug, features tightening with pain as he went down another step, face paling as he gritted his teeth. He didn't answer, a bit too stubborn for his own good at times. He paused, hoping that the dull ache would fade just a little instead of letting it grow to the point of it being unbearable. He just wished that his mother would let him live on the ground floor just so he didn't have to do this literally every time he came home.
"I'm not teasing you. I said I'd feed you, I didn't say when," he scoffed, rolling his eyes playfully. This kid really thought with his stomach, didn't he? He racked his brain, trying to think of something else he could feed the boy while they waited for the food to be done. They could do popcorn, and he could always have Ari be a taste tester. He chuckled a little at that, glad to concentrate on something else besides the stairs. (Yeaaah I forgot where it was too XD)

((me too x3 also cool!! that reminds me, i still have a drawing request i have to finish :') ahhh, i need to get back to that - i had an art block back then but im back in the groove so ill get on that ~))
"Aw," Ari said, patting Simon's shoulder. "You're still clinging to the beliefs that society has drilled into your head. That's cute." It was amusing, how Simon's eyes would stretch wide and the way he'd protest, so eager to convince him. Ari wondered if it really was that hard to wrap his mind around the possibility of no college. (Then again, he thought to himself, he himself couldn't really wrap his mind around school being a good thing, so he really couldn't judge Simon for that.) "Alright, since it's so important to you I'll stay in school," he said, letting his eyes roll to the ceiling. "I still reserve the right to hate every second of it, though."
Ari couldn't stand it. "Okay, dude, I'm gonna, like, make you a staircase thing," he said, frowning as Simon finally (finally!) hit the ground floor. "Like one of those things old people have but faster," he said, hopping down next to Simon. "Geez, why do you have to live on the second floor if getting up and down's so hard?"
Ari let out another dramatic groan. "Noooo, how could you trick me like this," he bemoaned, looking for a couch to swoon on. "I'll starve. Shrivel to nothing but skin and bones. Is that what you want?" he said, shaking down a sleeve to show a skinny arm. "Look at this! I'm already skin and bones!" He realized too late that there's a reason he wore long sleeves all the time, but at the same time Simon didn't seem like the type of person to ask about the scars on his wrist, so he decided not to care. "Skin. And bones," he reiterated.
((in which ari continues to be blunt and dramatic))

"Hey, I'm planning on going to Juillard. Julliard, you hear me? I'll be famous because of my training," He retorted, bumping the other playfully, still trying to figure out how, exactly, Ari didn't think that school was necessary. Sure, school wasn't fun all the time but it wasn't horrible, and he loved his music classes. Plus if he wanted to get in with the best of the best he had to stay in school or he wouldn't have a chance. So he did his best to get top grades (which he did), and involve himself with not only every music activity but other things as well. He was the liaison on student council for the music department, a part of Future Business Leaders of America, Robotics (hah), the reading bowl, and was the president of the National Honors society at their school.
The pressure of the amount of work he had to do for all of his activities was slowly breaking him, the pressure causing more anxiety and in turn he was relying more and more on other means to keep himself relaxed. The only reason why he wasn't doing something today was because all classes were canceled due to the fire and all activities as well. I'll have to come up with something for the NHS to do for rebuilding. He thought with a sigh, the panic in his chest beginning to consume him again.
Simon was pulled out of those thoughts, though, when Ari announced that he'd make him one of those lift elevators for old people and he couldn't help but chuckle a little and roll his eyes, too out of breath to answer at first as he rested against the wall, taking a few moments to actually regain his ability to breath. His face was pale and he was trying to keep as much weight as he could off of his aching residual limb, before giving him a dry, bitter smile. "M-mother won't let me. G-ground floors exhibition. S-so things that her guests can see. Living room... Kitchen... Aaron's gym... her library... the movie theatre. Stuff like that. S-she said I just needed to get used to going u-up and down again, l-like walking." Even though literally all of his doctors had told her explicitly that was not the case with prosthetics. They weren't really made for going up and down things, maybe some more modern ones were better equipped but even then it was difficult with the model he had.
Ari was being dramatic again, and Simon watched in horror as he plopped onto the couch. He grabbed Aris wrist, tugging him up quickly, eyes staying on the scars for a few moments as his throat dried up, not realizing he had frozen for a moment before he glanced back at Aris eyes, releasing him. "No sitting on the couch. Mother would have a fit if she saw any creases." He grumped, letting Ari talk about it if he wanted, tugging on his own long sleeve to make sure they were in place. "And anyways, I said I'd feed you popcorn... or somethin', so its not like I'm starving you. If I wanted to do that I woulda locked you in my room. The door locks from the outside. " He responded with a wicked grin, despite the implications of his family life that had. He'd been locked in there far too many times than he'd like to admit by his brother, thinking it'd be hilarious to do so.
(Oh yeah! I forgot about that lol. I can't wait to see it when it s done xD)
