Concept: Travelling mercenary band in a fantasy medieval time period. They are more or less a makeshift family. They're infamous, have a high bounty on their head, but also very dangerous. Bounty hunters who have tried to catch and kill the mercenary group have met an unfortunate demise. The local officials actually try to buy them out and get them to do work for them because the mercenaries aren't worth the risk to catch and they only care about the highest paying jobs.
They come varying backgrounds and lands of origins and races. They find each other to be not only okay, but also an interesting source of lore from all walks of life. Contrary to popular belief, they're not bad people. They try to be good and help common folk seeing as some came from those walks of life. Whereas some are not so benevolent, but begrudgingly accept because of their family.
Setting Fantasy races. Dwarven kind, elves, etc. Communities by seas with pirates, varying gender roles depending on region of origins, varying weapons, and magic infused weapons, armors, and more. Lots of magic. JUst. magic.
Roles: [ might be expanded on, might be 1 per person/2 per person/?? per person??? ]
- Barbarian [claimed] - Paladin [claimed] - Ölphann Brynjar, human 32 yo - Knight - Druid [claimed] - Ranger [claimed] - Gale Amari, centaur, 340 yo - Assassin [claimed] - Alphonse Fournier, elf, 510 yo - Mage - Chanter - Cleric [claimed] - Aoife, fae, 1349 yo - Monk [claimed] - Yu Xingfu, dragon, 7910 yo
Rp will be advanced. we're talking about a minimum of probably 500 words and a maximum of well... nothing. Write as much as your little heart desires.

Roles -
- Barbarian: wild, unconventional fighters – distinguished by their recklessness, ferocity, and their predilection to substitute raw aggression for discipline. - Paladin: Paladins are extremely devoted, often fanatical, soldiers who have pledged themselves to a chosen cause, combining the zeal of a priest with the ascetic discipline of a monk. - Knight: A proud, skilled melee combatant who fights in the name of honor and chivalry. A knight relies on more than a sharp sword and a stout suit of armor to defeat their foes. Their drive, determination, and fighting spirit allow them to control the battlefield in ways that others cannot match. - Druid: Druids wield the power of nature against their foes. They are guardians of the unspoiled wild. Druids' spells often take the form of natural phenomena—storms, coiling plants, rapid decay. They can also shapeshift. - Ranger: Rangers are expert sharpshooters with any ranged weapon. They are assisted in their efforts by their animal companions, incredibly tough and loyal creatures with whom rangers form lifelong bonds, who share their lives with their masters. - Assassin: The assassin is an unfailing assailant; most of their targets never see them, and fewer still survive their first assault. The assassin is a subtle character, not wasting time hefting huge weapons to bring to bear or casting spells to destroy large portions of an area. - Mage: Mages are called navigators of the mortal soul, charting out and practicing the precise ways in which "ordinary" people can unlock the power inside of themselves. They are spellcasters but have limitations due to their short hand magical techniques. - Chanter: While chants may seem modest compared to a wizard or a priest magic, chanters are able to recite their chants while occupied with other activities, making them extremely versatile. Their invocations are pretty powerful spells and they have the highest number of summoning spells. - Cleric: The cleric is a healer, usually a priest and a holy warrior. Most clerics have powers to heal wounds, protect their allies and sometimes resurrect the dead, as well as banish the undead. - Monk: Harnessing their inner strength and potent "chi" energy, Monks are extremely capable in every role: damage, defense, and healing. They do not resort to violence unless necessary but are devastating fighters.
Not my own writing. Will use as ref for final version. Think of adding list of skills n abilities maybe. Maybe more roles in future

Maybe compile a list of regional ideas and some magic ideas? I'm thinking of how to restrict magic to be powerful but not op. I mean everybody probably knows a handful of spells and might be magically adept but still gotta think it out n stuffs. Also the enchanted weapons n stuff need rules n regulations about them

definitely the druid.
As for ideas, making we could start by making them ranged?
|
|
|
Post by lozi on Aug 4, 2017 11:20:50 GMT -5
We could have them skilled in small spells, such as household cleaning, levitating small objects etc., and to make the mage powerful but not OP, we could restrict them to only a certain class of magic. (elemental, mental, arcane)/font]

definitely the druid.
As for ideas, making we could start by making them ranged? k claimed it Uh I'm thinking there r many types of magic. Ranged n close combat magic both exist. Its more like making things like fire magic n whatnot have limitations to their AoE damage n the pure destructive power of said abilities. Perhaps by adding magic resistant armor or races anf also making such spells have a slow cast speed

Alright. That makes sense. I like the idea of magic resistant armor. Maybe every spell has a counter spell?

Post by L’Éᴛʀᴀɴɢᴇʀ on Aug 4, 2017 11:42:44 GMT -5
Only issue with spell/counter spell is there'll have to be a comprehensive spell list. I mean we can always take from preexisting sources of creativity such as DnD regarding spelllists and whatnot.
Like for instance. I've got a magic skill level and description from an old rp. I don't want to lock magic types into any single character. We can get a list of diff. magic types and let people select from them. For example a ranger could be attuned to nature magic to a lesser level than the druid, etc.

Definitely going to restrict matter control to inanimate objects

No worries. That is definitely a must. Don't want too much matter control. Let me know if you want me to edit some out of the list.

Hmm idk if we're abiding by Norse mythology here n if we r which will be kept n which will be thrown bc I have Chinese mythology involved but it won't be limited to Chinese obviously.
Also jsyk Al is forever the original Al so that's his nickname xD

My character won't necessarily be following Loki specifically, it was more of a look at the direction I want to take him. I can conform to anything you need me to.
Also, my character will be human. Probably should has stated that.
And how should I do the rp sample? As the character in question? As a random rp event?
And wasn't Ip Man one the only good Ip Man movie?

Post by L’Éᴛʀᴀɴɢᴇʀ on Aug 5, 2017 21:45:21 GMT -5
Alright, that sounds fine if that's the case. We'll see how we work with the deities n whatnot lmao
It's cool. I added it.
Any rp sample will be fine.
And imho all the Ip Man movies have their selling points. They're movies about culture, character, and the loose history of the time period. I loved them all equally. Ip Man followed the WWII time period with Japanese occupation of China. Ip Man II showed the occupation of HK by the British and how corrupt the British officials were [ that's why the formed the ICAC in the future ] and period typical racism. And Ip Man III followed a more homely and emotional story regarding his relationship with his wife. It lacked the fights and glamour of the previous two, but made up for it with great moments. I loved them all. I'd like to hear why you didn't like the second and third.

I should clarify that I've only seen the first one and have been told that the next two aren't as good. I haven't judged them as not as good, I just haven't seen them and was just asking your opinion. By the description you gave me, I'm pretty eager to see the next two (three) now.
Also, sorry to be such a pain, I did want to change my characters name from Alpine to Ölphann. I was going to include that with the human post, but for whatever reason (because I'm a scatter brain) I didn't include it ^.^;
I'm assuming you want the rp sample as a private message?
