Introduction
Copperfield Academy - a home for the gifted, as they say. Upon those words, an individual's immediate assumption is regularly that Copperfield is full of bright scholars, with extraordinary potential. While that's the case for some students, it's certainly not the case for majority. These gifted students are generally gifted with wealth (which is clear as day, looking upon the fees), and by extension, from families with great importance.
Though, do not be mistaken. While the institution might've been based around more superficial ideals, Copperfield Academy is renowned for their spectacular educative service. Many students who enter come out as distinguished, respectable members of society.
At least, that's what the countless pamphlets have told you. Your parental figures have put a great deal of research into Copperfield Academy, and are eager to send you on your way to an optimal education. You yourself are unsure of your own feelings towards the place, but you could have went here, some odd boarding school in Switzerland, or a raggedy public school subpar in all aspects. Your choice seemed clear.
At long last you arrive at your destination, a tall and elegant building that was decorated to look more like some fairytale, rather than a school. Although your mind was hardly focused on the aesthetics as you hauled your suitcases out of your car, bid your parents farewell, and made your way towards the entrance to sign yourself in.
It was a new year. Socializing, learning, experimenting — who knew what would be in store tomorrow? A part or you was excited to see what would happen this year.
About
At Copperfield Academy, there is a clear social divide between the wealthy and the bourgeoise. It's simply the natural order, after all. Those with power, or in this case money, stand at the top, while those without kneel. Very rarely do any poor or middle class students sit with the stereotypical 'elite' cliques.
The divide doesn't only affect politics, but behaviour too. The steep tuition costs are not anything to bat an eye at when your wallets are light; so naturally, the less-wealthy kids take things seriously and try their hardest to avoid expulsion or the like. Though, that's more of a generalization than a fact. The rich students, who scoff at the tuition, have that little bit of leeway that allows them to slack. Their personalities can be much more...colorful.
When it comes to favouritism in the classroom, again, the wealthy students regularly benefit. Despite the less gifted (normally) being more attentive and studious, the teachers' paychecks are not too run-of-the-mill. As said before, it's the natural order. No one wants to blink twice at those below them. At least not all teachers are as biased as others. The headmaster himself is quite neutral, actually.
Things aren't as horrible for the poor students as it seems, though. The divide is mostly societal, as said, and when you're paying what you are at Copperfield just for education, you're popularity isn't the most important thing on your mind.
Welcome to Copperfield Academy.

Thread Rules
I - Follow the forum rules at all times when on this thread. It's just being polite. As much as I would hate to, I won't hesitate to report the thread or anyone that strays from standard.
II - Copperfield Academy is a semi-advanced roleplay. For every roleplay response, members are expected to provide a paragraph decent in size, consisting of proper grammar and a decent vocabularly, and the like. Characters should also be realistic with actual thought processes, motives for their actions, and they should actually be human. No mary-sue characters that "smile and nod" constantly for every post.
III - It's understood that we all have things to keep our lives busy. School, friends, health issues, work; nobody lives life available 100% of the time. Members are still expected to post two or three times a week. Of course, if you have things going on or just need a break, I'll gladly allow you some time. If you let me know. I can't read your mind. Unexcused absence for over two weeks will result in a kick, but you can rejoin if you can remain active.
IV - Avoid spotlighting, godmodding, powerplaying, and the like. These things ruin the fun for literally every other member. If you aren't aware of the definitions of the aforementioned terms, please send me a private message requesting further detail to be completely sure none of it happens.
V - Do not start any large and long-term drama points without my say-so. I don't care if a nerd and a jock start dating, but I do care if two jocks get into a fistfight in the middle of the cafeteria and therefore divide the school into halves (for example). I do care if a character brings a gun onto campus, or starts strangling someone. Any plot point that causes extreme ripples must be briefed by me before it is played out. If there's currently a major plot, unrelated subplots that take the attention away from it (for a long time) are extremely looked down upon. Similarly, if there's a major plot point, please actually try to push it along.
VI - Kind of an add-on to the previous rule. To prevent two characters from just having one drawn-out conversation for three weeks, characters will be freed if they haven't been roleplayed for 60 hours (two and a half days). The only exception is if what they were doing directly affects plotlines.
VII - Do not spam! It's completely unnecessary and extremely annoying! Double-posting is looked down upon. There's an edit button for a reason.
VIII - LGBT characters, and characters of any race or religion are accepted here. Those who speak ill of them are not. I actually don't care if you think whatever you are is superior. I ask that if anyone sees someone trolling like that, just report and don't respond to them. The moderator team can handle things, and giving them any more attention will just make things messier and worse. Anyone saying homophobic, xenophobic, or otherwise hurtful things will be banned from this roleplay, no questions asked.
IX - There is no character maximum, but you should try and keep things reasonable. You're never going to roleplay 40 characters, you know it as well as I do. Keep genders relatively even (m:f - nonbinaries are a minority so it isn't necessary to keep them as high).
X - Enjoy yourself!
School Guidelines
I - Uniforms* are to always be worn during school hours, during meals, and when outside. Modifications of the uniforms and accessories** are disallowed, unless for religious or medical reasons. In the dormitories, students may wear whatever they please so long they follow standard dress code. That means:
- Clothing may not contain vulgar words or themes (the promotion of drugs, sex, etc). - Skirts and shorts must follow the finger-tip rule. - All tops must have sleeves longer than the width of two fingers. - Hats or similar head accessories are not allowed, unless for medical or religious reasons (hairpins, headbands, etc are fine). - Cleavage and navels should be covered at all times, for people of both genders. - Gang-related clothing (i.e bandanas) may not be worn. - Clothing should be kept light while inside. Anyone wearing bulky clothing may be asked to change for safety reasons.
II - The purposeful harm of a peer, be it verbal or physical, is never allowed on campus. Even if the words are not directed at anyone in particular (i.e making a generalized statement that affects a large group of people), it still is punishable.
III - Everyone must always follow their schedules. Class must always be attended, unless the nurse or headmaster says otherwise. Students must also remain in their dormitories past 10 pm without question.
IV - Illegal activities, such as smoking, drinking alcohol, or gambling are never tolerated on campus grounds.
V - Electronics may not be used in classes, unless the teacher permits them. Earbuds will be temporarily taken away if people are found with them outside of dorms.
VI - Students must always respect every staff members. Arguing or being generally rude to staff is considered worse than doing so to a peer.
VII - Food is only to be eaten in the cafeteria or outdoors. When it comes to drink, bottled liquids are generally encouraged to prevent spilling, although it isn't punishable. Littering is, however.
VIII - Public displays of affection is never tolerated. It's fine to hug or hold-hands, but making out and inappropriate touching anywhere on campus is never permitted.
IX - Students must stay on school grounds at all times of the day, unless they have a note from either the headmaster or secretary.
*Copperfield Academy uniforms are quite simplistic. Male or masculine-presenting individuals possess the following: - White, long-sleeved dress shirt. - Red tie w/ thin white stripes. - Beige pants. - Black pants. - Beige shorts (knee-length). - Black dress shoes. - Brown button-up suit jacket. Females or feminine-presenting individuals possess the following: - White, long-sleeved dress shirt. - Red tie w/ thin white stripes. - Beige skirt (mid-thigh). - Beige shorts (knee-length). - Black pants. - Black dress shoes. - Brown button-up suit jacket.
**Certain accessories are excused. Pins/buttons, or personalized belts are permitted, so long as they aren't distracting (too colorful or weird patterns) or vulgar.

Cliques
At Copperfield Academy, there's just your standard cliques, the only difference being what they're called. A long, long time ago, people started referring to the cliques with more medieval-sounding names. Ever since then, they've stuck, and it's pretty much looked down upon to call the particular cliques anything else.
King (0/1) - The self-proclaimed 'ruler' of the school; the most popular male or masculine-presenting individual. Generally hangs out with the queen, the lords, and the ladies. Most often, the king will date the queen or one of the ladies/lords, if anyone. - Name
Queen (1/1) - The self-proclaimed 'ruler' of the school; the most popular female or feminine-presenting individual. Generally hangs out with the king, the lords, and the ladies. Most often, the queen will date the king or one of the lords/ladies, if anyone. The queen's behaviour is very similar to the ladies', but she's usually calmer. - Name
Lords (0/3) - The most popular male or masculine-presenting students in the school. Lords are essentially the Copperfield counterpart of jocks: most of them play sports, and are ready to steal your girl (or guy in the case of some). They hang out with other lords, ladies, and the two 'royals'. - Name - Name - Name
Ladies (0/3) - The most popular female or feminine-presenting students in the school. Ladies are essentially the Copperfield counterpart of 'mean girls', piranhas in pink. They're all girly, and simply live for gossip and drama. Ladies are tightly-knit with the queen especially, and do not enjoy allowing others into their ranks. - Name - Name - Name
Squires (1/2) - The students who do anything to fit in with the above cliques; try-hards. They can be seen grovelling and constantly offering unnecessary praise. Often times squires think they're accepted, but are actually hated a lot without knowing so. Calling someone a squire is considered demeaning, so they're usually just referred to as lords or ladies for their own sake. - Name - Name
Fools (0/2) - Fools are class-clowns. Simple pranksters who enjoy having eyes on them. They enjoy embarrassing themselves (in good fun) and others, disrupting class, and whatnot. Most of them can turn absolutely anything into a joke and still make it funny; unless it's purposely bad. Bad jokes and puns are the epitome of their existence. Despite their name, though, these social butterflies are actually pretty popular and are rarely seen sitting alone. - Name - Name
Jesters - Thespians. They aren't just a bunch of Shakespeare geeks, though - jesters are the people who love the spotlight, or people who like to stand up on stages (to act, sing, or dance). It's a bit confusing to have the theatre geeks mixed in with regular egotisticals, but no one really says anything. Jesters tend to be a bit over-dramatic and again, full of themselves. - Name - Name - Name - Name
Peasants - Your regular, run-of-the-mill students who either don't stand out or don't belong in any other cliques. Typically social with plenty of friends, just not many who are popular. - Name - Name - Name - Name
Outcasts - Your regular, run-of-the-mill students who either don't stand out or don't belong in any other cliques. They're different from peasants though, because they usually have little to no close friends. - Name - Name - Name - Name
Deacons - The nerds. 'Deacons' is a little more self-proclaimed, and only used to be polite. Higher-ups and just snooty people simply call them nerds. Not all deacons have amazing grades or anything. They're just the people with nerdy interests, or the people who don't go to parties and are drags/goody-two-shoes. - Name - Name - Name - Name
