When I think about going back to school I want to EAT my own SOCKS

Hi. I'm co-running a rp called The Royals and, as is my way, I have grown way too attached to the characters and the story, which means I sometimes get an overwhelming urge to draw them. Rather than spamming the RP page with my drawings I thought it would be better to just go ahead and make an art thread where I could store them. I mostly work traditionally (ink/charcoal) but I'm trying (OH HOW I TRY) to learn digital art and animation. I just made a dA account and you can find it here! I hardly ever post my art online but maybe I should. Stop doing that. ANYWAY HERE ARE MY DRAWINGS.. THANKS First up are the characters I rp as: Stoneheart the KingThe old ruler of the castle who is letting his kingdom fall apart while he mourns his dead mate and son. He does not accept criticism, constructive or otherwise. Sandstripe the herbalistKeeps a secret store of poison behind her den. Was recently exiled for a related reason. Thunderheart, the King's brotherEasygoing and friendly guy, until you stress him out even a little bit Skysong the PriestNot great at having a conversation that isn't scripted preaching. NEXT UP: Scartail48, the other person who runs the rp, plays Stoneheart's daughter and she's honestly my favorite character. A good child who deserves better. Stoneheart forbids her from leaving her room because he doesn't want her to get hurt & he doesn't understand that she is a living breathing individual who can make her own decisions about her life Dewfern and Stoneheart got into a bitter argument that broke my heart for several reasons: AND FINALLY.. We held a trial for Sandstripe, and the visual was cool in my head so I felt the Need to draw it. Plus some drawings of bonus drawings of Stoneheart and family because they are dysfunctional

And here is my primitive attempt at drawing Stoneheart in Gimp. I figured out how to hook up my non-wacom tablet to my computer so I can use it like a Wacom and I wanted to try it out, so he became my test subject because honestly? I'm less embarrassed if my warriors fanart doesn't turn out the way I want it, because it's warriors fanart and not some Serious Emotional Piece That I Care About A Lot.
Honestly it was fun to try to adapt my traditional drawing style, in which my strategy is to keep making tons of lines until it accidentally looks good, into colored digital art. Overall it's a little????? Eh???? but I'll take it for a first try. I'd like to try to draw a couple more of my royals characters in this style so I can get some more practice in.

First time doing digital art and it looks like that? Honestly I think you have talent.
(Your cats are so good.... How long have you been drawing for?) Edit: You're in an art college so nevermind. You've probably been drawing for eons already! It shows in your work.

Redfleck thank you! I have been drawing for most of my life, but I didn't start drawing seriously until about four years ago. I took AP studio art in high school and failed my portfolio review because my art was Just That Bad, so I retook it again in my senior year and started going to weekly figure drawing sessions in my area so that I could teach myself how to draw. I also took a very rigorous drawing course just last semester that required 9 hours of homework a week, all observational drawings of skeletons and figures, over and over and over. Consistent observational drawing is extremely painful but also really builds up some Strong Art Muscles. It allows you to draw what you see and not what you think you're looking at. It helps me when I'm tackling something I usually don't draw, like cats. If I can step back and say "it's not an ear, it's a cone with fur on it" then the drawing comes out better. Because if I think of it as an ear, then I'm just drawing a symbol of what I think an ear is, and it comes out flat and weird. wow i talk too much sometimes

The observational drawing and equating weird things to geometric shapes is really good advice though! I do it sometimes with hands when they're in weird positions, but I should extend it to everything else....

falconfire thank you!! I always use references when I draw, especially with animals since I don't draw them as often as I draw humans so I'm much less familiar with their anatomy. I think it takes about a hundred drawings before I can accurately draw something from memory.

Art, your Art is so goooood! I wish I could do this awesome realistic style that you do instead of just cartoony cats, and I love the way you draw Dewfern!!! Those captions are just so real I can't even

Ooh I remember seeing this in the RP section and thinking it sounded like such a cool story. I love the way you drew the cats and gave them such personality. Those open/shouting mouths are so well done! (teeth are so hard to draw)

I have no impulse control. I have work in four hours and I'm still awake doodling a comic about the events that took place before the start of the rp
highkey not sorry though bc I need to practice digital drawing and this is a fun way to do it

The Only Thing that can stop me is that my tablet just ran out of battery power and I don't know where I left the charger.
