[Please feel free to jump in with any character, canon or OC!]
Scorpius Malfoy, a young man at the very peak of his teenage years, had certainly not followed in the same path as his father's footsteps. In attendance of his 6th year at Hogwarts, the seventeen-year-old boy had flown under the radar for most of his schooling. Unlike the youthful arrogance his father had displayed as a child to three certain war heroes, Scorpius was withdrawn, a quiet boy seemingly lacking friends even in his later years at Hogwarts. He attributed this to the stigma that followed the "Malfoy", as it was no longer held in a high regard. It was a lot rougher on him when he was younger, when a number of other students ridiculed and tortured him relentlessly when he first dared stop onto the Hogwarts Express at twelve years old. These were undoubtably students that had parents who were affected by the war, students who's families had suffered losses due to the group his father had once been forced to be apart of, and students that found an outlet to their anger and sadness and loss in the form of young, platinum-haired boy. Scorpius never knew how to counter these students who came to him shouting and taunting. For many years he took their curses, putting on a brave face before them and crying in the Slytherin quarters when no one else was watching. His father desperately wanted to send him elsewhere, as Draco loved his son more than anything, but Scorpius refused. He took whatever others had to say and learned to defend himself as best he could, never provoking them and never, ever daring to speak with anyone under the last name of "Potter" or "Weasley" or "Longbottom". Even years later, there were still cruel whispers in his direction, a needless amount of judgement when he made a mistake. He simply tried to do his best, keep to himself, and get through his last years. This time of year was particularly stressful, as schoolwork seemed to be piling up. Scorpius, books in hand, was rushing to the South Tower to attend Charms. He tried not to draw attention to himself as he slipped in, but Professor Flitwick had caught him before he could crawl to his seat. Ignoring the boy's wide eyes, the professor promptly paired him up with the remaining student, forcing him to slink up to the chair beside them. He reluctantly sat down, refusing to look in the other's direction for longer than a moment even after the other students had stood to start practicing their charms.

Rose Granger-Weasley was easily identifiable as the daughter of Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger - she had bright red hair but bore resemblance to Hermione in a lot of ways, or so she was told. She was in her sixth year of Hogwarts and she wasn't the only descendant of the Wesley family in the school. Albus Potter was in the same year and her little brother Hugo was two years younger. Then there was Fred Weasley, named after his uncle and bearing a name that was a constant reminder of the loss suffered on the night of the Battle of Hogwarts.
Rose remembered having been warned to watch out for any student bearing the name Malfoy. Her father had been particularly adamant about this, and Rose could hardly blame him. He had lost a brother to a member of a group the Malfoys had been part of. And Draco had been extremely unpleasant, if her mother's pride at having punched him in the face was anything to go by.
But Scorpius Malfoy hadn't really made a peep in six years at Hogwarts, which is why Rose didn't object at being paired with him in the Gryffindor-Slytherin charms class.
There was a moment of silence, and Malfoy didn't appear to want to look at Rose for long. Perhaps he, too, was all too aware of the beef between their families.
In fact, Rose had felt sorry for Scorpius Malfoy, what with the way people whispered behind his back. People were whispering even now as the two sat together. Rose was just as good at stern looks as her mother, however, and she soon quelled the whispers.

(I know she's canon and hates Scorpius in the canon stories but I'm just going to keep the name and make her a little different. Just going to abandon the whole Cursed Child plot

[Haha, I abandoned the plot of Cursed Child a long time ago. I'd waaay prefer you take the name and make your own character, and I'm kinda doing the same.]
Scorpius knew of Rose Granger-Weasley. It seemed that everyone in the whole school fancied her and her cousins, all wanting to be friends with the children of the famous heroes, or so it felt. Surely no one like her could ever be lonely with all the popularity and fame that followed, which was all quite the opposite for Scorpius. Aside from that, though, he was particularly wary of Rose and her brothers, perhaps even more so than the other Potters at school. Draco had made his amends with Harry Potter, to a certain extent, and they had come to a mutual understanding of each other.
On the other hand, his father had told him on occasion that Ronald Weasley, the girl's father, had never quite forgave Draco (or the rest of his family, for that matter) for what had happened during the battle. Scorpius tried to be understanding, he would have never wished such a tragedy on anyone, but he was not responsible for the actions of his parents nor grandparents. He wanted to shout that to anyone and everyone that approached him with cruelty, but he could never seem to find the words.
He peered at Rose long enough to see her turn her head over her shoulder and strike a glance at the Gryffindors murmuring something about him. The phrase "if looks could kill" briefly crossed his mind, glad that he had not been on the receiving end of it. He didn't dare look at the students even as they quieted, instead casting a glance towards his red-headed partner. "You don't have to do that," he murmured, a sharp edge to his low tone. He pushed his platinum hair out of his eyes, perched on the furthest edge of his seat as to allow some distance between himself and the girl.
I don't need anyone one's pity, and I surely don't need anyone protecting me. Especially not you.
He glanced down at the parchment that had been passed out to him, looking over the outline go the assignment. Part of it would require some out-of-class practice and time spent together, and the thought made his heart absolutely sink in fear. The last thing he wanted to do was be alone with Rose anywhere. Maybe if he was lucky, he could talk to the professor after and offer to do the assignment on his own.

[SAME! I never really bothered with it to be entirely honest]
Rose raised an eyebrow at the apparent anger tingeing Scorpius' tone. He clearly wasn't happy that Rose had helped him. Hmph. He could at least act a little grateful.
"You're welcome," Rose had replied in the same tone, a little disgruntled at his rudeness "You know, you should consider not being rude to the person trying to help you out. Manners are a thing."
Sure, she was maybe being a little sharp, but she had to fight fire with fire, didn't she? She wasn't under the impression that Scorpius would respond to kindness from her. But perhaps he would respect a quick wit? Perhaps if she was just as harsh back to him he would stop being hostile.
She, too, was given a piece of parchment and read it over. Oh. This would be harder than it thought, especially if Scorpius continued to act in this way. They had no hope of completing the assignment in this way, and God forbid Rose's mother find out she failed an assignment. She'd probably be banned from coming home for Christmas - and everyone knew Weasley Christmases were the best Christmases.
She had a lot of expectations on her, as the oldest child and youngest daughter. Family competition was strong. Her cousin Albus Potter was an excellent Quidditch player, just like his father. Her cousin Fred Weasley was already a popular name in the school, just as lively and mischevious as his father George and his namesake uncle. Her brother Hugo was skilled at Defense Against the Dark Arts and prided himself on being the family wizard chess champion. So Rose had to work extra hard to get grades as good as her mother, just to distinguish herself from her talented family members.

"I didn't thank you," Scorpius reminded her pointedly, giving the girl a menacing side-eye.
He realized then that he had never formally been introduced, nor introduced himself, to Rose. He never thought he would need to. They lived almost entirely separate lives, having different Houses, different friend groups, and different classes, and with Scorpius making an effort to avoid her family, it was fairly easy to keep his distance. He wasn't generally looking for any trouble, and he feared this partnership may end in just that. It was far too late to switch out of this class, too, (which was his usual go-to) so he may be stuck with her for the duration of this project.
"And I didn't ask you to help me, did I? Whatever they were saying was probably a lie, I know how to deal with it. I've been dealing with it for a long time." His words were cutting, uninhibited.
He couldn't explain the anger he felt towards the girl to himself. He knew she had never personally wronged him, but he rift created by their families was hard for him to get over. Much like many people had found an outlet in him for their emotions over the battle of Hogwarts, he just as easily wanted to turn it on the Granger-Weasley girl. He was usually quiet when others were sharp with him, but he felt and extra urge to defend himself against the likes of Rose as though he were defending his family name. He wasn't going to back down unlike most. Fire with fire it was.
There was a tense moment of silence before he spoke again. His voice was quieter, but no less discordant. "We have to practice the augamenti charm and demonstrate that we can fill a glass of water without spilling. We also have to be able to create a more powerful stream that could be used to put out a fire. And write an essay on three other possible uses of the charm..." He sighed softly. That sounded like a lot of time-consuming work, all having to be done together.

"I know you didn't," Rose replied "It was sarcasm."
She fell silent for a moment when he mentioned how he had dealt with whispers and comments for a long time. Rose knew he had.
"No, you didn't ask for my help, but I thought you deserved a break for once. You didn't ask for any of that after all, any more than I asked for this."
She tugged a piece of her red hair. She wasn't implying red hair was bad, nor was she comparing the problems Scorpius was going through with being a redhead. She was simply making the point that nobody asked for genetics. That wasn't how it worked.
She sighed at hearing the long list of work, but nodded "Well, it's okay. It's a lot, but I suppose we can do it if we put in some library hours."
The library had been Rose's mother's favourite part of Hogwarts, so her family had told her. Unsurprising, considering Hermione's reputation.
After a moment she turned to the male and said "Okay, so we both know who each other are, but we've never properly introduced ourselves, have we? Might as well if we're going to be spending this much time on this project. Rose."
She didn't mention her surname, firstly because it was redundant; they both knew it and it was obvious just by looking at her. Secondly because she didn't want to shove the family feud in his face by mentioning her surname.

[lol, don't even worry about it]
Scorpius was about to snap something again, something about knowing she was using sarcasm, but he visibly hesitated a moment. She said that, what, he deserved a break? He was suspicious of the comment, eying the connection she was making with her hair. His father's words about red hair being connected with Weasley's crossed his mind, but he didn't voice it. If Rose really meant what she said, he wasn't really sure how to respond to it.
"Well, don't look into it too much. It's just how things are." Was all he mumbled, still uncertain if he was grateful or if he should be wary of her. Perhaps both.
The thought of being stuck in a library for multiple hours with her, though, was a little daunting. What in the world would people think if they saw them together? As mentioned before, this was a particularly stressful time of the year, and he didn't need any more extra drama added to his life.
Not that he disliked the library, that wasn't it. Scorpius loved the library. It was a quiet place he could go to better himself, and read and study, and most of the time, people didn't bother him there. When they did, it seemed he could count on the librarian to hush them and send them on their way (which he was very grateful for).
"I guess we haven't. Six years is a pretty good record. Most of the other students have sought me out before now." He told her, peering at her.
"Scorpius." He nodded in his own introduction, his voice having softened. He spoke quietly, and while he honoring the same silent rule of not giving his last name, it still seemed he was almost ashamed of his first. It would be better if they simply pretended to ignore who they were for the time being and tried to avoid the prying eyes of other students. That was something he imagined neither of them could ever seem to get away from.
The class was nearly over, most people packing up their bags. He lowered his head. "Where, um... where and when would you like to meet? I mean, depending on if we want to write the essay or practice the charm first."

Sorry, it's giving me some trouble posting. If you want another character to go along with yours, I'll probably pick up Albus or Hugo or a different girl. If not, your character could probably just jump in with Rose and Scorpius.]

(Sorry for not responding, family stuff)
Rose let out an internal sigh of relief when Scorpius introduced himself in a softer tone of voice. It appeared he was letting down his defences a little bit. Defence she knew he had been building up for six years.
She suspected she was first Weasley he had really spoken to. He had, after all, avoided the children of anyone close to Harry, Ron and Hermione. He had avoided James Sirius Potter, who had left Hogwarts the year before, and he was currently avoiding Albus Severus Potter and their little sister Lily Luna, who was in her fourth year along with Rose's brother Hugo. He kept clear of Hugo and of any other Weasley children, like Fred Weasley and his sister Roxanne. He had even avoided the children of Luna Lovegood (twins called Lorcan and Lysander Scamander) and even though Neville Longbottom had never had children, he was the Herbology professor at Hogwarts, so Rose imagined that was someone else for Scorpius to avoid.
The girl stood now stood and began to pack her bag as Scorpius asked when and where they should meet to start this project.
"Well," she responded "I don't know about you, but I'd rather get the essay done first so we have more time to practice the charm. We can meet tonight in the library? As soon as we've left the Great Hall? That way we can have at least made a good start before we have to go back to our common rooms."
The fact they weren't in the same house would make this slightly more difficult. People in the same house could work in their common rooms all night if they had to. Unfortunately she couldn't really do the same thing with Scorpius, as they both had to be in their respective common rooms before lights out lest they get in trouble. It would be okay, if they worked around it a little bit.
Besides, as far as she knew, both herself and Scorpius were more than capable with a wand (she hadn't seen much of his magic but the Malfoys were always a magically talented family) so they'd have no problem practicing the charm. They were better of getting the essay finished first. Then they could get onto the more fun stuff, like practising the charm.
